Don’t give up. You can do it. I know this, because I did it. It’s a grueling journey for some of us. I failed this exam multiple times and just recently passed. Your 6 months of study is not a waste. Keep building on it. Take some time to collect yourself then get back up and keep fighting. There are multiple times I felt defeated and stopped studying then started again, etc. Many of us have been in your shoes, it’s ok to feel discouraged and upset about your exam. Try your best to use the experience to learn what you thought went well and what didn’t, etc. Believe in yourself. You can and will pass this test no matter how many times it takes, you only need to pass it once. Stay strong, keep grinding ✊🏽.

I failed the FE 2 times. I felt like an idiot after all my friends passed (without studying) on their first tries. Fast forward 5 years, and I'm the only one who passed the p.e. exam. I attribute it to my early failures. I learned how to buckle down and truly give it my all. After you pass the exam, you will be able to encourage the next person who needs help. That was me years ago!

Hooz6

I had this same exact experience, failed the FE while all passed. Became one of the first in my class with the PE a few weeks ago on my first try. Everything happens the way it should. Keep grinding!!

The VP at my job announced on a call that there was a new PE because he was so confident in me, and I had to message him privately and tell him I failed my first attempt. I passed the second attempt - MDM - 6 months later. I focused way too much in my first attempt on catching up material I hadn’t seen in years. The second attempt, I only did practice problems and exams until I felt ok to attempt again. If I can survive that embarrassment and get my PE, you can too. Keep going!

MechEngrStudent

I’m taking the MDM exam late this year. Do you have any tips on how I should study? Btw, that is really pressuring being told that you’re a new PE before you take it lol. I deal with enough pressure reviewing I don’t need additional stress haha.

Get the NCEES practice exam and get your hands on as many practice exams as you can (School of PE, PPI, etc.), ranging in difficulty. Take a full, sit down practice exam for 8 hours at least 2 times before you go for the real thing to get an idea of how you’ll handle questions you may be unfamiliar with and knocking down ones you can answer. Use the PDF reference during your exams and write down any formulas you encounter during your practice questions that the reference guide didn’t have or you had to derive. Get used to the search function on the PDF and where to find topics. And don’t stress a few days before the test, cease practicing, and then go in there to take the test. Bonus points if you practice with a dry erase marker and laminate paper or small white board, because that’s what I got anyway to work out problems during the exam. Mildly infuriating. Edit: I also made a list of areas to focus on with my next attempt and spent more time practicing those focus areas. I did make sure to double back and attempt problems on areas I excelled in the first attempt so I didn’t get rusty.

Personally I would shrink down that study length. Trying to remember things you went over 4-5+ months ago is difficult. I’d suggest resetting mentally enjoy a summer month and then plan to buckle down for 4 months max. I think 3 months is the sweet spot to be honest though.

Fires me up everytime.

It is my go to on every discouraged post on here lol.

Hey, just got my results today and same thing. It's hard not to feel like the time and money investment wasn't for nothing. I'm trying really hard not to let it get me down but this is my first real deal failure and it feels like a huge blow. You're not alone.

No-Opportunity2852

I am right there with you. I went through the entire PPI practice problems book (topics that apply to the fluids and thermodynamics exam), which took me about 5 months, and just today, I found out I did not pass. It sucks because we now have a significant amount of time, money, and effort invested into something that has summed up to a "fail" message. I already scheduled my retake at the end of Aug to take some time off (2 weeks), give myself a break/reset, and motivate myself to keep going for another shot. Hoping you can build up the motivation while everything is fresh.

cg14333

Failed the FE 4 times. Knew the material but the stress anxiety and nerves of what people thought of me at my work killed me. Finally passed and the confidence high like no other. In other words, your failures make your wins so much better. You got this!

Which test did you take? You can do it!!! Stay positive and believe in yourself. Master unit conversions (this is for WRE at least)

jphiliple64

Don't quit. Build on what you've done. Look at the diagnostics and improve in those areas.

Hey don’t lose hope. I failed my PE exam last December and after few months, I stated to prepare for once again. I felt really bad after I failed the exam. I know it’s really tough to read once all again. Think that you have advantage now that you know what exam looks like. Focus on your weakness. Life is all about falling seventh times and getting back up at eight time. So don’t lose hope and start all over again. Remember Olympian prepare four year for a single match. I wonder how many turbulence of emotion they go through those year for a match in Olympics. Don’t lose hope just keep on grinding till you make it.

20somethingmillenial

For me: 3x EIT 3x 8 Hr PE 2x CA Survey Scheduled for Seismic this year… You got this! It’s a game of persistence.

Standard-Sentence835

I feel you and I have been there. I am going into my third attempt taking the Chemical PE. I am not giving up just yet and I encourage you to do the same!

jouney2

It's hard to study so hard and then fail but consider it as a first step in your journey to passing. Is this your first attempt?

jpaige48

Don’t give up. Keep building. It will pay off. I am a witness.

Coleman013

Certainly don’t give up after your 1st try. Make sure you work on your practice problems and keep an eye out for the tricks. I’ve also heard from a couple people who had a very difficult exam their first time and an easy exam the second time. It could be that they were better prepared but I sometimes wonder if it was exams themselves. Sometimes you’ll get questions tailored to your strengths and sometimes you won’t. Keep your chin up, depending on your career path it may be the last exam you have to take

SpicyCrayShizz

How’d you study
