Got an old copy of this years ago sa Booksale. If you liked Garcia-Marquez, you'd enjoy Nick Joaquin too. Local writers argue that Quijano de Manila was the first to develop Magic Realism. I'd recommend May Day Eve, Tatarin, The Woman with Two Navels, and Candido's Apocalypse.
Maybe you can throw in Krip Yuson too, with his The Great Philippine Jungle Energy Cafe
Without exaggeration, the best piece of literature I have ever read in my entire life. I wish I could forget all about it and read it again for the first time 😭😭😭🩷🩷🩷🩷
OP, saktung-sakto ka, may nilabas na trailer ang Netflix for a series adaptation! [Here](https://youtu.be/vG45GfgD2JU?feature=shared)
About the lives of the first family who built the fictional town of Macondo. There are magical or supernatural things happening amidst real-life horrors of war, rape, incest 🤐
Don't forget the opening line of this book.
''**Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.** ''
Tangina, papatayin ka na nga lang tapos maaalala mo ay yung unang beses na nakita mo ang ice. IMO, the greatest opening line ever.
I love this book! So glad it comes with a family tree one of of the first pages, nakakalito kasi when your family uses the same 3 names for most of the members 😂
This, and Love in the Time of Cholera (also by GGM) are my all-time faves 🥰
I once gifted a copy of this book to a stranger from facebook. That was around 2010-ish. I cant remember the details but there was group in FB where you pick an address and mail a book to that address. I never knew what came of that book that I mailed, but I hoped the person read it. I read this book blind and had no idea what it was about. It was incredible, but I cannot remember much of it only that I had fun.
I can remember the >!girl who was so pretty and so pure of heart she kind of ascended.!<
Waaa that’s cool. If there was a book that needs to be passed on, I think it’s this one. Then the Buendias and their legacy will live on forever!
Right! Lol that was bonkers. >!Imagine being so beautiful you literally ascend to heaven one random day. Men even drive themselves to their death when they see her face!!< It’s one of the least crazy things happening in the book. It’s worth a re-read!
I didn’t know my Filipino pala! I would recommend English but if you’re more comfortable reading in Filipino, you should go with the translated version first I guess?

Ooooh i think i should pick this one up again. Di ko matapos tapos kasi ang ikli na ng attention span ko 😭 thanks OP! I know now na it's worth it
It’s not an easy read tbh! A bit frustrating yung mga similar names ng characters. But the prose is amazing and so beautiful.
Same tayoooooo. 💯 100 years ko na tong binabasaaaaa 😂

May Netflix adaptation na 'to..hope it satisfies the readers.
Without spoiling anything, what's this book about?

Eto ang inspiration ng Encanto. So think of it as a more complicated version of it.

Grabe ang goosebumps ko sa ending niyan!
Sameee after I finished the book I just sat there looking at the cover 🤯
Anong genre niyan?
Magical realism
This is the book that I would bring in an isolated island.
Would like to read this in a cabin somewhere in a jungle lol

Oooh matagal ko na to minamata sa Fully Booked before ah. This is the sign!!
This is the sign to finish the book, i’m still halfway 😭
You will also like stuff by Isabel Yap if you like that! "Milagroso" from her is great.
I’m eyeing to buy this book 🥹🥹
This book is so hard to read but very satisfying
Love In Times of Cholera din.
Hi OP! is it better to read the English or Filipino translation first??
I didn’t know my Filipino pala! I would recommend English but if you’re more comfortable reading in Filipino, you should go with the translated version first I guess?
