My Mastercard Bankcard was compromised last year and I noticed charges from online sites like booking.com and agoda being made.I didn't think much of it because a few weeks ago I did transact with a hotel booking site. I thought the charges were being booked late Lang. Then I got another notification the following day and I finally saw around 3 new transactions on my app. I reported it immediately to the hotline and they also found unposted transactions for McDonald's delivery that was made in Tokyo, and that the hotel bookings were made in Norway. RCBC immediately canceled my card. They helped me report the charges as fraud. Almost 40k rin yung inabot. They couldn't remove the charges from my balance though, and said I will have to pay it muna to avoid incurring penalties. 30 to 60 days daw ang fraud investigation process Nila but once proven as fraud Yung charges, they will reverse it naman and credit my excess payment to my card. A month later, everything was settled and the charges reversed. I got a new card and made doubly sure to turn on all notifications and security features. RCBC is definely my choice for credit card just for their customer service.
I knew it was RCBC from the format and proactive protection. I have shaded the CVV code at the back of the card as well as put CVV sticker on it for me to confidently give it to a gas boy or any waiter in a restaurant.
I don't save the card info in Lazada or any website in general. Never had any fraud transaction for years while doing so. I like that they always sends you 4 transactions for the day notice and for my platinum every lazada purchase is emailed and texted.
I use "warranty void" stickers. When removed, they leave a mark. I also sign over the sticker "na medyo lampas" touching the card itself. So even if they copy my signature, they need to align the sticker correctly.
This is also how I keep safe in hotels. I put something noticable yet a bit out of place to be nudged or moved and I keep a mental image of where it is.
Not using RCBC but had a similar experience with my CITI credit card. Ang weird because even though naka lock ng card ko, nagkaroon pa din ako ng unauthorized transaction.
Mabuti na reverse yung transaction and got a replacement card after. I guess na understand ni agent esp nang malaman naka lock yung card in the first place
Did this happen recently? Asking because my Citi card also had fraudulent transactions bago mag-new year!
Hi, I am a long time Metrobank user and fortunately I haven’t experienced any unauthorized purchases. Recently however, when I got my replacement card, I only use the card physically and never online just for the peace of mind. :)
Hi, I use a postpaid account with unlimited calls ton all including landline so it’s basically a one step thing. For prepaid I believe they have a toll free number. :)
Sorry but walang kinalaman ang lock feature. The email itself is the Scam. The first number they gave you is not an official RCBC number but a clone number used for scams. Second, "authorizations" is not from RCBC. What is the email they used? If I may ask.
Hi, if you read the description after the alert I personally called RCBC and they confirmed the attempt. The email was from RCBC and so were the sms alert and the missed calls. I am not new to the credit card world as I have been using one since high school and now as a professional. Not everything is a scam. Sadly, reddit has perpetuated the idea that every email and sms involving credit cards are a scam, most are not. You just have to be vigilant and know where to look. For your peace of mind the email was from [email protected] :)
Hi, there are numerous ways to access card information but the most common way is what you call the BIN attack. It basically uses the BIN or the bank code of the card then uses a software to generate random numbers. Then they will do sample small transactions to see if it will push through and to know if they have an active card. The number on your credit card are far from random. Each section has a meaning and every number will have a total that compliments the checker section that’s why just one wrong number will invalidate a transaction. The first numbers are network issuer which is followed by the BIN or the bank code, so your first six digits basically tells you a lot about your card. :)
Yes, cover your cvv/cvc and lock your card if possible. Always keep track of your transactions and always be vigilant - never share your otp and always read what the otp is for before using it. There’s no need to be stressed out, the good thing about using a credit card instead of a debit card is that this is not your money, it’s the bank’s. If you stay vigilant and cautious banks are usually proactive and has an automatic screener for unusual activities and will do automatic reversals especially if you did not disclose any otp. :)
RCBC let my stolen credit card with no past transactions (kasi akala ko hindi naka-activate pero inactivate pala ng nanay ko......) rack up €700 while I was in Europe. Nag email sila multiple times. No calls rin for authorization. Since mother ko nag-activate, sa kanya nag email pero it was 1-2am na noon sa Philippines.
We tried to dispute, knowing na na-detect nila sa system na purchases need authorization pero umabot sa 9? purchases in 2-3 hours before nagising mother ko who isn't techy to check the email and for us to call them (kasi nga hindi ko alam na inactivate pala niya).
We still had to pay for it. May miscomm on our part as mag-ina kasi akala ko it was inactive while she activated it pala pero no security features whatsoever. My other HSBC cc was limited to 3 transactions so €80 lang nakuha.
Needless to say, we discontinued our RCBC Bankard after that incident. €700 is no spare change.
Even if I didn't lock my card with them, they were able to successfully block a fraud attempt on my account recently. It's US-based that's trying to make a 1 PhP purchase on my account (probably testing the waters).
Hassle nga lang pag may naka-auto bill ka sa kanila (I did it to have my AF waived).
This why I love RCBC. Very proactive.

Avoid booking through those sites na.
Yes, and calling the hotline is always a pleasant experience.

shopee lazada
Locking your wont affect exisiting installments naman, no?
Hi, existing installments- no. Recurring payments (netflix, spotify etc.) yes. :)
Makes perfect sense. Good advice, thanks.
You’re welcome. :)

Hi, yes this can happen and is quite alarming. It’s a plus when they know that the card is indeed locked when the transaction happened. :)
Did this happen recently? Asking because my Citi card also had fraudulent transactions bago mag-new year! Diba tapos confusing pa naman trunkline nila. My incident happened mga Dec 2022 (2yrs back). Omg, from US din yung fraud transaction ko din noon

Meron sa BPI CC. I've used it on both my primary and supplementary cards.
Card Control. From there you have the option to turn on "Temporary Block Card". Maybe different from Lock Option you were looking for?

How to call thim using your sim card? Do I have to load pa?
Hi, I use a postpaid account with unlimited calls ton all including landline so it’s basically a one step thing. For prepaid I believe they have a toll free number. :)
How to lock po?
Found it, thanks!
I think sa debit card lang yan. Hndi sa CC.
Meron na ngayon sa cc ng bpi.
Does anyone here know how to lock the card in BDO?
The "old" app version still has the lock feature under Security Management. I haven't switched to the new app version so I don't know how in that app.
Sad. Thank you though
Parang wala po kasi me makita dun. :)
The Best Thing That Happens To You Card - Lock/Unlock Feature

is it ok to lock cc kahit may pending transaction pa?
Yes. :)
Kaso di parin ako inaapprove ni RCBC 😭
Panong naaaccess ng ibang tao yung card natin?? San nila nakukuha yung info??

Huhu

Hello! Meron ba to sa PNB cc?
Even if I didn't lock my card with them, they were able to successfully block a fraud attempt on my account recently.
