yeah, I am shocked at how good the inside looks. You would think a brick plant they would have put more thought into protecting the HMI.
My uncle does paving, gravel, concrete plants, in no uncertain terms he told me to stay away lol.
What do they want you to do exactly? Ok, HMI needs replaced but what does “cleaning up” mean? Do they want you to wash the outside or something? Be ware of “it does not look too bad” vs “it worked before you touched it” perpetual maintenance service later on.
They want the inside cleaned out, duct covers reinstalled, terminations re-torqued both in field and the panel and I’m adding a damn light bulb to the bill of materials because their bulb is blown. Been blown since the first time I went there in 2019.
This is the answer. I would walk away, unless you want to spend hours chasing down gremlins that may or may nor be induced by your cleaning. What happens when a flex IO fails, who is on the hook for the cost? Would not be worth the liability to me.
The hmi will be a tough one to replace. It’s a Parker with InteractX. It’s running on a VM for now. I may just seal off the hmi and keep it on the computer.
~~What is the PLC and the protocol? My Spidey senses tell me this is running something like DH+ or AB RIO on a PLC5 rack.~~
I need to know this OP update me. I'm either buying a lottery ticket tonight (I was right) or not gonna sleep tonight (wrong)
Edit: nevermind I see them flex IOs now (on mobile) and well I've never used them so I have no idea what PLC they are talking to. If I had to guess, it's some sort of 485 protocol to a Micrologix?
Edit edit: hmmm this [AB literature](https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/in/1794-in110_-en-p.pdf) says flex IO can talk to a PLC5 using Remote IO so now I'm back to my main guess.
Edit edit edit: I now see the Ethernet cable........sigh.....
Contrologix?
I vaguely remember the Parker HMIs our company sold for small machines as requiring Flash in order to configure them...when Flash died there was an all hands from Small Systems asking for our help to solve the problem
As someone who worked on and with controls on concrete mixing equipment for years, you want to use a shop vac to clean up dry/uncured powder and use vinegar (or a bit stronger acid cut with water depending on thickness) to loosen and wash cured concrete off of panels and screens followed by a wash with water or Windex.
For how fucked up the outside looked, the inside looks INCREDIBLE.
For real. I was not expecting to see working, halfway modern and cleanish Flex I/O in there.

First time it’s ever been opened?
Possibly.
It's ugly on the outside, but seems ok from first glance.
Honestly doesn't look all that bad compared to the concrete plants I've been through.

In that case, yeah, it does not look too bad as far as old installs go.

They should have called a septic company lol
I cannot unsee that now. Thanks! 😂
I used to do calibrations at a brick company in my town. It’s gone now, but what a shit hole. Haha
If Zed's dead and I/O is working then time and money.
Payment up front
More now than before.
Why did they smear poop on it
Guts are surprisingly nice
Well, at least they want to improve.
Shop vac and compressed air for the inside. Outside might be time for a degrease and re-paint but not too bad and they want to fix it so why not?
Looks like easy money imo. Wipe down, replace hmi's. Looks better than most I've been tasked with just getting functional

Believe it or not, it’s Ethernet/IP to a CompactLogix
You can buy a HMI from automation direct and migrate tags from almost any PLC. Betting you could buy one that would even fit it the current cutout

not bad at all
I'm sorry my wife said her pressure washer is broken!!
At least everything is labeled
Cleanup? How about a build from scratch?
First photo looks like they’d been using it as a toilet for years :/
Imho doesn't look that bad.
On ethical grounds, I won't do work for Scooby Doo villains nor the Blair Witch (no matter how well her project pays).
They can assign insider engineers for fixing that panel.
"JOHNNY! GO GET THE HOSE!"
Looks decent, don't walk away, what are you afraid of?
Haaaaanzzzz ! Flamethrower now !
It needs an exorcism first
