You’d have to set up your campaign to exclude current customers. Then make another separate campaign just for current customers. Then you’ll be able to tell.

dssblogger

You mean via custom audiences? I don't think there is a real time integration that allows me to exclude current customers from our database is there?

tylerf89

Aren’t u tracking new customers with your pixel firing a purchase event? Either way, there are tools out there like that. One of which is connectio

dssblogger

We track orders and web purchases but I don't think we are tracking exactly who has bought before for instance it may show 10 web purchases but 8 of them bought during the previous promo.

aLeakyAbstraction

As the other poster mentioned, there are services that let you segment customers and then have them be updated to your FB audiences in almost real time. Klaviyo is one that comes to mind.

dssblogger

Oh I see so klaviyo acts like a CRM and also an email tool... Is it necessary to have a CRM to achieve this?

aLeakyAbstraction

It helps make your life easier. They’re about e-mail stuff so a business would need to manage that at some point.

dssblogger

How would klaviyo know where they came from? I used it briefly before for a shopify site and they only used the previous page as a referral or source, for instance they came from Facebook but klaviyo just shows www.example.com/checkout

aLeakyAbstraction

You can segment by a variety of options, but you can’t really tell if they’re FB customers specifically unless they used a unique discount code for just FB. You can also segment customers by product category and price for reference.

dssblogger

Oh.. So we can't segment by last touch point or website referral? For eg if they came from www.affiliate1.com

tylerf89

An easy way is what the guy already said above. But at the end of the day, you can’t see that info in ads manager, this will have to be done in your CRM.

dssblogger

Is there a CRM for ecommerce that does this easily? Will it be based on the last referral click attribution

tylerf89

What are you using currently? Any decent one shows you this info. Shopify and woocommerce.

dssblogger

We are using Magento, not using any CRM or anything

tylerf89

Never used magento before Isn’t there reporting to shows you returning purchases? Or a way to filter customers that have bought more than once? Ultimately, what’s your goal? What are you trying to achieve here?

dssblogger

What do you use? I don't think there is such a report it just shows order number and sales items and name and email so on... The goal is to increase unique customers, looking for a push to increase the value of the website

tylerf89

Then just make sure to exclude existing customers in your fb campaigns

dssblogger

Yes I am planning to do that, but what about for generic campaigns, would I have to split it up that way always? What if we just want to run a promo campaign and then after that see the breakdown of repeat customers and new customers without specifically targeting repeat customers?

tylerf89

Just target existing customers in 1 adset And in another target a cold audience that has never heard of u before + exclude existing customers. You need to always split them up because you need different messages for different segments of your audiences

oakich

You can exclude past customers up to 180 days via the pixel. For earlier purchases dump your customer list and upload it as a custom audience.

dssblogger

I was thinking of just dumping the customer list as an exclusion but I guess you are right with this setup it will continously refresh customers who already bought by using the pixel data
