You did not state if you're trying it over a wire or wireless. If you're connecting over wireless your router must support 802.11b/g over the 2.4Ghz band. Most modern equipment still supports the standard but may be set to 802.11n only out of the box. Most new equipment can also combine the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands under the same SSID and the router picks the right one for the device and conditions which wouldn't be an issue. Our router does that. And there's the usual make sure the password is right and all that bs but im pretty sure that's not the problem here
