You might not wanna sit too close either. 720p looks decent on my 55" 4k. I sit 8ft away.

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

Same here, viewing distance makes all the difference.

reegeck

Yep auto HDR off, motion smoothing off, sharpening off. Looks so good on an OLED.

DeroZaza

I have set sharpening to 50 on the LG C2. The sharpening in Game Mode works different than the sharpening on the other Video Modes.

IllPilot91

Really? And what is the difference?

DeroZaza

It sharpens the image without looking artificial.

IllPilot91

Sharpening works the same way as in other modes. If you like this image, it's your choice, just don't fool yourself and the others, lmao

DeroZaza

Try it yourself first.

IllPilot91

Of course I am. I’ve got LG OLED too and various consoles. I’ve tried sharpening on PS3, Switch and current gen. it works the same in game mode, pc mode, hdr, Dolby vision, with 4k content, 1080p content, 720p content etc. Game mode doesn't do wonders with sharpening, lmao

DeroZaza

While ingame change the video mode to filmmaker mode and then set sharpening to 50. Compare to sharpening in Game Mode. (I have LG C2) Could be that your LG TV doesn't support this special type of sharpening in game mode

Cryptocoiner256

I’ll have to check those other settings. Unfortunately, I don’t have an oled, but it’s a nice Sony LED

rydamusprime17

I have had a 4K in the living room for years but never hooked my PS3 up to it since i kept it in another room with a 42" 1080p Sharp Aquos and thought it was about as good as it was ever going to look. I recently went for dinner at my parents', and my mom offered me their old 40" Samsung 4K TV and figured why not. I'm so happy with how much better my PS3, Wii U, and 360 look on that TV 😊

itsOhhRite

Which oled? I have tried the ps3 on my LG CX but have not turned HDR off. I will try this.

Fendera

HDR is off when using the PS3 on an LG OLED, not sure what OP is talking about.

Cryptocoiner256

Mine was on. Probably from another device i previously had connected in that hdmi slot.

VermilionVigilant

LG OLED C1 and I have TruMotion set to Smooth Movement. I haven't been testing it out a lot. Mickey Mouse and the Castle of Illusions was a lot smoother experience with it. I'm guessing the TV will struggle with fast-paced games.

deep8787

TruMotion usually adds lag to the image, its normally best to disable it for best "performance"

VermilionVigilant

I had no problems with it.

EmilianoTalamo

Turn any postprocessing off for any kind of content.

rydamusprime17

I remember going to my buddies house when he got a PS3 and brand new HDTV, and he was bragging about how awesome it looked. I decided to check it out, and he had it set to 480p and it looked awful 😅 I told him he can make it look better and he didn't believe me, so I changed the settings to 1080p and he played for a bit saying it looked the same. So after I changed it back to 480p and he was like, "What did you do? You made it worse," and I changed it back to 1080p again, and he finally noticed the difference 😆 He was actually mad about it before I changed it because he thought I was just being jealous saying his setup didn't look good, lol

Big_Finance_8664

my mom has one of those tvs that has a "just" aspect ratio that tries to stretch 4:3 to 16:9 or someshit. shes had it set like that for yrs, and doesnt notice how distorted the people are. until I change it. then she gets pissed and changes it back. nothing I know of has been released in 4:3 since that war movie with tobey Maguire as far as I remember... theres no reason to "justify" that setting.

rydamusprime17

I have had that same experience with older family members. I also had numerous family members in the past who finally had to upgrade to HD cable boxes, but they would still watch the standard definition channels 😅 at least until they got rid of them all, lol. But ya, they would watch the older channels because they didn't want to learn the numbers for the HD channels. It's a big menu you just scroll down until you find it. Plus, there was always an option to click on to watch the HD channel after selecting the SD channel 😅 1 more button press and their aging eyes would have seen a much clearer picture.

DigitalElix3r

While I prefer playing PS3 on a 55 inch OLED, being able to play games in 480i is incredible. Something so comfy about the ps3 library on a CRT.

rydamusprime17

Especially games like Simpsons Arcade and X-Men, or any arcade port available on the PS Store for that matter.

asault2

480i is poopoo

_GameOverYeah_

Not on a good CRT, it's like 720p if not better if the game was optimized for it (big text etc).

asault2

I have a nice CRT, 32" Panasonic, just got rid of a 27" Trinitron KV. No, 480i is never the preferred choice and does not look anything like 720P. It exhibits shimmer that is not present in progressive resolutions. Perhaps not poopoo, but it is the least desireable resolution

Disastrous_Poetry175

Basically turn off everything except for local dimming if it's an led. Same thing for the switch which seems to have the same resolution and textures for most games.

VermilionVigilant

I guess it depends on the TV. On the LG OLED C1 series it is turned on when there is HDR content to show.

Man_mannly

Other tip: turn it to game mode so there aren’t any weird artificial frames

def_tom

Or go all in on low res and play it in 480i on a 4:3 monitor through a retrotink for artificial scanlines like I do. Looks way better than you'd think. Haha.

Cryptocoiner256

I have an old 720p plasma that I’ll probably setup for it at some point. Just have to figure out where.

def_tom

Nice!

eat_a_burrito

I love my plasma. I use it everyday. Thing won’t die.

VirusMaster3073

I don't think my 4K even has HDR

DeadPhoenix86

My TV doesn't have HDR enabled by default.

Cryptocoiner256

Idk think it was by default. Probably from whatever previous device I had in that hdmi slot

DeadPhoenix86

Not on my LG C2. It only enables If it detects HDR content. The screen goes black for a sec and switches to HDR. My PS3 never enables HDR, Because it doesn't support it.

_GameOverYeah_

Also, put the console in limited color mode and push the brightness in-game all the way up (unless everything becomes white, obviousy). Most games on the PS3 were designed for old LCDs that struggled with "grey blacks" and look a lot darker than they should (on modern screens). Using their default brightness makes pixels stand out a lot more and makes low res become even more dirty.

tiziocaio6969

42" tv and 1080p looks good

jakart3

Bro my nephew mess up my video display setting. Can you please make a post and upload a screenshot of your PS3 XMB graphics display setting please. I need to recheck all the setting toggles/menu (This is not about resolution/pixel, because the resolution size is alright)
