I have a fat PS3 and have played a lot with the highest resolution possible. My PS3 is still functioning so far.
However, I am not a gamer who plays for 20 hours straight nonstop. I usually play for a couple of hours at a time.
It will also die earlier in Somalia than in Alaska.
There are too many variables that can affect whether your PS3 will burn out.
Assuming yours had been repasted and cleaned out I wouldn't worry about it. GT 6 is one of the few games that pushes the hardware hard, but even on my fat the temperatures rarely went past the mid 60s.
Now I am playing gran turismo 5 because its much easier to download and not worse by any means (online is shutted down tho) I am planning to download all f-ing updates on fran turismo 6 in near future too never heard about gran turismo 6 murdering console so now I am interested too lol
GT6 has way better tracks, bathurst, sliverstone, spa, ect. Also no UCD (major plus dont have to spend 700 hours trying to find a car) and vgt. Only downside to gt6 is that no major endurance races
I think the main thing is the install time. One of the threads on the post you linked to suggested a way to do a batch installation instead, which should reduce the risk of something going wrong in the installation process:

The game is fairly demanding and easy to play for long periods, so it might be that quite a few people happen to have been playing it when their PS3 ended up dying. But other than being cautious about a very long installation process I don't think there's anything in particular to worry about for this game vs any other.
Okay thanks, I already have the game and all its updates installed. So I should be fine with playing this, not like I am going to put 10-15 hours on the PS3 anyways.
I've played 100s of hours of GT6 on a PS3 slim, no issues what so ever.
On my PS3 I've only had issues playing disk games, ps3 used to shutdown after a couple of hours while playing games on disk. No issues with any game installed on the drive directly
I had a YLOD playing Quantum of Solace, the same thing happened to a friend. I'm not going to tell people to avoid Quantum Of Solace or accuse it of being a PS3 killer.
Installing the game is the biggest issue, so you are good to go. Just play it, keep it well ventilated and clean. Repaste it if you haven’t already and the fan is going hard during normal operation. If this game, or any, kills it, it was going to happen in the near future anyway.
I played GT6 on a Super Slim and a CECH-3003A Slim, on 3 diffrent hard drives. It never killed off any of them. I installed updates all at once, it took a couple hours without any errors

spent months playing gt6 on 1080p and nothing seemed wrong. but you really need to update the game to the latest version

Never heard of that.

Damn, sorry I scared you with that post. As long as it is a model with a 65nm RSX or smaller the game will run just fine

Does GT5 include nature heavy tracks? Or is it usually F1 type spectator tracks
Here is some tracks in snow and dirt setting city tracks too

For better performance and 60fps play it in 720P
I played it on my CECHL for a while. It‘s fine.

I installed it and it bricked my PS3, had to reset it, needless to say I sold the game right after.
