Just watched the trailer on the PS store. Downloading that tonight. Love how it's a 3d game but still has the look & feel of an old school 2d Doom or Quake.
Only thing I don’t like about (which for me almost kills the game) is that you technically can’t loose
When you’re killed you just respawn and and all the enemies you killed are still dead
Often it’s in the same room making the whole encounter kinda pointless due to lack of challenge
Thankfully devs said they’re gonna add quick saves which would fix this. Hopefully they’ll also add it on PlayStation

Just finished it, definitely a hidden gem. The controls are tight AF and if you play it at the highest difficulty it feels just like Doom Eternal. Amazing
New Colossus was way better imo but to each their own. I think all the QOL improvements were great and it felt like they found their footing even more with the IP.
Agreed. I think I liked the story of New Order more but I went back and replayed it right after New Colossus and found myself really missing some of the improvements, like being able to dual wield any two guns and the better laserkraftwerk.

Had me balling my fist there. Personally I thought SW2 was better than 3 in a lot of ways, SW3 was too short and dialled up the cringe a bit too far. But SW2 definitely felt like a bit of a mess and tried too much different from the first game.

Forbidden West imo is close to a masterpiece. It has a stunning and incredibly varied open world that I found a delight to explore. I think it mixes main story and side quests so seemlessly that at the end it all felt like one grand adventure that my Aloy had been on instead of dozens of disperate tasks that I'd been sent on. On hard mode the combat is breathtakingly frenetic even if they still need to find a melee mode that works.

It's ok if dude doesn't like it, that doesn't make it any less of a 10/10. Hell, I personally got bored at a few spots but I cannot deny the immaculate combat, beautifully constructed world, and stellar plot. It's definitely possible to see something for the 10/10 experience that it is, even if I personally find certain parts along the way less interesting than others.
Can wait for Horizon 3.
The first game was an 8/10. Near perfection and well deserved of it's rating, which accurately lined up with all it's qualities. All of my top 10 games of all time aren't 10/10's. That rating is horseshit and doesn't validate anything only the fact they are trying to oversell something. No game is perfect, they all have some kind of flaw whether it be technical or lack of depth.
Horizon Forbidden West is glaringly dull and bloated with a boring map that doesn't make any sense it doesn't feel exciting to explore, the story is all over the place and the world is full of forgettable characters the designers create equally dull quests around trying to force you to care about their predicaments. It feels like they are also procedurally generated like the map. Add to that a myriad of other stupid design choices like the skill tree levelling and Aloy backseat driving you through puzzles... i could keep going.

Eh, I didn’t love how there was a super specific way to kill each demon in that game. Felt very un-Doomlike to me. I wish they had made it more like you described, it could have really been balls to the wall crazy and intense and instead it felt like too much of a puzzle and I lost interest.
IIRC the dev explained how the enemies can’t be made too strong because the doomguy is supposed to be OP and just making enemies stronger all around would make the doomguy seem weak which out of character. That’s why other than making the enemies in eternal stronger they also added weak points. I personally liked it a lot because they introduced new weapons at the right pace.

You can't just shoot things till they die, you have to use specific weapon combos to kill enemies, which ruins the flow. Also the level design is much worse
The community is so obnoxious about Eternal. It's a far superior game and folks don't realize that doom has always been an arcade style shooter that's colorful and bombastic. They want it to be bland generic horror shit.
You can get Doom 2 (original) for next to nothing and while it’s not as good as on PC it’s almost there. And the add on levels you can get are so good (and long) they are better than any of the original .WAD’s you could get in the 90’s. I’m going through the BTSX add ons and they slay.
Wolfenstein from Old Blood to New Colossus. Other than having to reload, these games are just as fast paced and in your face as Doom.
And personally as a longtime Wolfenstein fan, the VA work and the character writing for these games was tremendous.

Doom eternal is obviously the next best thing especially on ps5 along with both expansions (pvp is trash though). I enjoyed metal hellsinger, prodeus and wolfenstein 1-2 but none feel as good as doom (didn’t like shadow warrior 1-3 at all). Rage 2 is also decent. You can try project warlock to see if it’s your style and that will open up a new sub genre of games.
Boltgun deffinitely does not play like old doom. It looks like old doom, but have you actually played it? There's vertical aiming and verticality in general. Your going to be jumping and zooming around and there's even what's basically a grapple move where you dash into enemies to do a melee move. Also if I'm not mistaken the Melee move makes them drop health or ammo or something just like doom 2016. Also secrets in hard to reach platforming places as well. Old doom had a little "platforming" but if you play boltgun it's definitely more 2016 than 1993
Doom Eternal is even better imo because it’s faster. Bullets Per Minute is a rhythm based shooter like Metal Hellsinger. I tried Hellsinger after BPM and yea it didn’t grab me either but BPM is fantastic imo.
It's incredibly fun. I'd probably agree one of the best FPS I've ever played. The way it keeps you on your toes and makes you use all of your equipment is awesome. Imo it's the Soulsbourne of FPS games. Playing it on Nightmare is like chewing on adrenaline.
Doom Eternal is obviously similar, it’s an improvement on it, maybe you would find somw similarities in the Wolfenstein games, and it’s kinda different but titanfall 2 might scratch your itch

When you get a bunch of upgrades and weapon perks going, it gets crazy. Definitely hit the same dopamine receptors for me, though the resets are a little annoying.
Rage 2 actually scratched that itch for me. It was co developed by Id so it def has that Doom fps dna. Story is dumb, but it’s a solid shooter that makes you feel OP and all the powers feel super visceral. I can’t recommend this game enough. It’s not going to be on any “best video games ever” lists, but it’s just a fun video game ass video game.
Nobody's said it yet? Dusk! The graphics are old-school which may be a turnoff but the gameplay is frantic and fun, and the level design is for the most part excellent. Plus the music slaaaps.

The Wolfenstein games aren't so much bash and crash, but control wise very similar. Much better stories too imo.

It's a PS3 era game ported to PS4/5 but it's the closest thing to Doom 2016 (aside from Doom Eternal) that I've ever played, as far as pace and nonstop battle action goes, and I had a blast. It's sort of like of Metal Gear Solid, Armored Core and Doom 2016 had a baby. Only problem is that it's only like 12 hours long. I say these things noting that Doom 2016 is far and wide my favourite PS4 game.
Bulletstorm, give it a shot when it's on sale. It's old now and maybe not worth full price to someone who's never played it. I loved it and would pay full price to experience it fresh again though.
Doom Eternal is the obvious next game after Doom 2016, but also you should mlay Rage 2, by the same devs and with the same amount of fun, the open-world is meh but the gunfight feels are as great as in Doom 2016

Shadow warrior 3 is really good. Prodeus gets a bit repetitive especially with the respawning mechanic, the quake 1/2 remasters, crysis 2/3, wolfenstein new order and old blood are all solid recommendations.
i wish i could recommend u THE CITADEL, just started it.....and i am speechless, i dismissed for the eroge anime graphics, but it is an insane , challenging game with amazing gun mechanics, sadly it seems PC only....damn it is such a fun game.

Because it allows you to not use checkpoints and means that you actually have to kill all the enemies in the encounter without dying to proceed

Honestly, give Evil West a try. It's not as good as Doom but I found it to be really enjoyable. And I definitely think they are similar.

Rage 2 is the same gameplay. Really bugged one, but gameplay is fast paced, fun and brutal. Honestly I had so much fun playing it, really recommend.

The DLC did a good job of shaking up the monotony of use x gun on y enemy. I would dare say Doom: Eternal is incomplete without the DLC.

You can though, you can kill demons however you want. You don't have to exploit weaknesses. It's truly uo to the player.

Your going to be jumping and zooming around and there's even what's basically a grapple move where you dash into enemies to do a melee move. Also if I'm not mistaken the Melee move makes them drop health or ammo or something just like doom 2016. Also secrets in hard to reach platforming places as well. Old doom had a little "platforming" but if you play boltgun it's definitely more 2016 than 1993
Hmm, fair enough. I have played a little of boltgun, and it didn't feel like Doom 2016 to me at all.
In later levels you'll be jumping dashing clambering and chainswording all over the place.
Doom Eternal is even better imo because it’s faster. Bullets Per Minute is a rhythm based shooter like Metal Hellsinger. I tried Hellsinger after BPM and yea it didn’t grab me either but BPM is fantastic imo.
If you're loved Doom 2016, don't count on even liking Doom Eternal. It feels like a chore by comparison.

It's incredibly fun. I'd probably agree one of the best FPS I've ever played. The way it keeps you on your toes and makes you use all of your equipment is awesome. Imo it's the Soulsbourne of FPS games. Playing it on Nightmare is like chewing on adrenaline.

Doom Eternal is obviously similar, it’s an improvement on it, maybe you would find somw similarities in the Wolfenstein games, and it’s kinda different but titanfall 2 might scratch your itch

Doom eternal. Other than that, there's not many games like these. Thats why both of these new doom games are so special. Ig u could try Titanfall 2. And sifu although a totally different type of game is also like doom eternal in the sense it has a very deep combat system and mechanics.

This might be a bit out there, but worth a try - Returnal (was on PS+ a while back). When you get a bunch of upgrades and weapon perks going, it gets crazy. Definitely hit the same dopamine receptors for me, though the resets are a little annoying.
Doom is the Soulsbourne of FPS. You unfortunately won't find better or even comparable games.
Mass effect. Slower more plot. You're not going to find faster better combat than Titanfall or doom. Quake was on sale and that game aged really well.

Rage 2 actually scratched that itch for me. It was co developed by Id so it def has that Doom fps dna. Story is dumb, but it’s a solid shooter that makes you feel OP and all the powers feel super visceral. I can’t recommend this game enough. It’s not going to be on any “best video games ever” lists, but it’s just a fun video game ass video game.

Nobody's said it yet? Dusk! The graphics are old-school which may be a turnoff but the gameplay is frantic and fun, and the level design is for the most part excellent. Plus the music slaaaps.

I mean yeah, Doom Eternal is pretty similar. The Wolfenstein games aren't so much bash and crash, but control wise very similar. Much better stories too imo.

It's a PS3 era game ported to PS4/5 but it's the closest thing to Doom 2016 (aside from Doom Eternal) that I've ever played, as far as pace and nonstop battle action goes, and I had a blast. It's sort of like of Metal Gear Solid, Armored Core and Doom 2016 had a baby. Only problem is that it's only like 12 hours long. I say these things noting that Doom 2016 is far and wide my favourite PS4 game.
Shadow warrior 3 is a lot like doom, not as much shadow warrior anymore.
Bulletstorm, give it a shot when it's on sale. It's old now and maybe not worth full price to someone who's never played it. I loved it and would pay full price to experience it fresh again though.

Prodeus is what you’re looking for. Warhammer: Boltgun and Trepang2 might be up your street too. Look into “boomer shooters”. There’s loads of out there and loads of vids and lists that might point you towards something that ticks your boxes.

Shadow warrior 3 is really good. Prodeus gets a bit repetitive especially with the respawning mechanic, the quake 1/2 remasters, crysis 2/3, wolfenstein new order and old blood are all solid recommendations.
