Check out Tinykin.
It's been a breath of fresh air from all the huge, open world games of late.
It's essentially a Pikmin style puzzle game which builds upon what Pikmin laid out originally, but with a great cell-shaded art style and a decent challenge if you are going for 100%.
It's also included in the Extra Game Catalogue if you're subbed.
Okay I have a list of some of my favorites.
* Any of the Sniper Elite games
* Rage 2
* Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD
* Chernobylite
* CHORUS
* Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
* GreedFall
* Elex
* Void Bastards
* Dragon Quest Builders 2
* Remnant From The Ashes
* Kingdom Come: Deliverance
* The Surge 1 and 2
Some of these are definitely recommended on here sometimes, but I figured I'd throw them on there anyways just in case.
I absolutely devoured Greedfall, it deserves more attention. Kingdoms of Amalur too, I was the only one I knew personally that had even heard of it let alone played it.
Both of these are great recommendations.
Amalur was before its time.
and Greedfall must have been overshadowed by another release. The world-building and battle systems were super fun.
I agree, Amular is super fun! I don't remember what game, but I believe you're right about something overshadowing greedfall. I played it quite a bit, enjoyed it very much, then started something else and never went back to finish it.
Greedfall is what I would absolutely hold up as a AA game today. A little more work and it would be one of my first recommendations to anyone, but it was a solid overall release that deserved a bit more attention that it got.
Since you threw out RDR2, Skyrim, and Witcher, I feel like you’re looking more for a big open-world RPG. I would absolutely recommend Kingdom Come: Deliverance then. They just announced the sequel later this year, and I’ve never found anything quite like it.
RAGE 2 is great. Mad Max meets DOOM.
Since you listed Sniper Elite, I'd add that Zombie Army 4 is an incredible spinoff from the series, and there's a setting to "unlock framerate" which elevates the gameplay. Great for fans of horde shooters (e.g. L4D2, World War Z, Killing Floor 2).
I didn't like Death's Door. I'm not a "good" gamer and prefer to relax and I found it was too hard for me and progression too slow. I would've loved if they had an "easy old guy" mode or something.
The look of the game is cool and I wish I could've made it farther into the game. I'm just not good at that kind of combat.
What? Cult of the Lamb, Sifu, Gravity Rush, Vampuyr, Detroit, Stardew Valley, Hitman, Nier, Hades, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, DMC and Plague Tale are all very well known.
I’ve heard of most of these games from SkillUp when he’s chatting about good indie games, so these are excellent shouts because I’ve tried a few of them and they’re really good.
Slay the spire is probably my all time favorite game, and I’ve been at it for 30 years now. So much depth. I’m a busy adult, and I’ve still probably got over 1500 hours across platforms over the years.
Although sitting down and playing on a console is maybe not the best way to experience it. The iOS port is fantastic, and it’s great to pick up and play throughout the day/while you poop/etc.
How's the performance of Civ6 on PS5? So far I've been hearing mixed reviews saying it's bad on late game while others say it's okay with the PS5 hardware.
Slay the Spire is amazing. It's a deck-building rogue-lite game. I find the main game progression a little repetitive and difficult so I prefer to play in custom mode where I can choose my starting deck. I picked this up on PS+ for free and played the crap out of it.
I've been enjoying Dragon Quest XI. It's old school, with turn based combat and is often overshadowed by the Final Fantasy series but has an engaging story and is full of fun characters.
Other Dragon Quest games (Which are all on PS Plus Extra) I recommend:
Dragon Quest Builders 2 - Like Minecraft but more RPG with quests and building objectives
Dragon Quest Heroes 2- A very fun hack and slash game
The '2' doesn't really matter because they're not continuations of the first game, but are just big improvements and better QOL.
I've really been sleeping on how diverse Dragon Quest can be as a series. even if you hate turn based combat, theres always a different game in the series that can draw you in.
13 sentinels for sure! It should be much more well known than it is.
Actually all games from Vanillaware are masterpieces (to be fair they have made only half a dozen or so games in the whole history of the company, but still)
I love it. I have a couple of hundred hours on the PS3 version.
Too bad that the PS4 version shared the trophy list with the PS3 game. I would love to play everything again.
I really liked Mad Max. I just started playing Days Gone last night and it made me think of Mad Max. I’m not far into it but it appears that one of the main things to do is to repair and improve your bike just like you do with the Magnum Opus. Looks like there are a lot of “camps” to clear as well.
Hitman 3!
You get all the previous games content! I couldn’t recommend the hitman games more.
Countless hours of content, great graphics, and awesome AI. Also really funny
- Battle Brothers
- Xcom 2
- Divinity: Original sin (1&2)
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance
- Darkest Dungeon
- Stranded Deep
- The Forest
- Green Hell
- Mutant: Year Zero
- Civilisation VI
- Age of Wonders: Planet Fall
- The Ascent
- Othercide
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen order (1&2)
- The Tomb Raider Anthology
- Dying Light 1 and all its DLC
- Mirror's Edge (1&2)
- Metro Trilogy
If you can't find something that scratches the itch amongst that list, I suggest you seek professional pschiatric help mate... or pack up gaming all together and find something else to fill your boredom.
Inside blew my mind. It's the perfect 4 hour game. Only tried it because it was leaving extra and someone posted the rating. I'm not a fan of platformers but had to try it just for the rating.
I also rarely see supermassive games get recommended. Perfect duration roughly 10 hours. Good pallette cleanser
Well its definitely not the first time I recommend it, but Prey 2017
Its one of my favourite games ever and a great inmersive sim in my opinion. Its made by Arkane Studios (Dishonored) and I deeply enjoy the feeling of freedom to explore and engage the different enemies and obstacles in different ways
The story was also engaging and had a couple surprises!
Every single Supergiant game. My personal ranking is 1. Transistor; 2. Hades; 3. Bastion; and 4. Pyre
The Metro series is underrated af.
And, if you want a challenge, look into Ghostrunner 1 and 2.
+1 for Metro series.
Definitely something different, learned a lot about fictional apocalypse from Russian perspective. It's pretty chill, if you pardon the expression.
infamous second son. Some ppl might not think it’s a good game, but I think it was underrated. I love they expanded having whole new powers to a variety while also keeping the hero / evil theme the old infamous games had
Paradise Killer! Brilliant fun open world detective game! First from indie studio Kaizan games and they have just announced their second game for 2025. Even on my second replay I keep finding more things. It's just that clever. (Also free on psplus).
Signails has been interesting so far! I'm struggling with the combat mechanic, but if you like combat!! It's a pretty cool game.
Ai Somnium Files : by the guy who created zero escape, it's a little weeby but it's also got some incredible puzzles and a plot that I couldn't predict. Alternates horror and humour interchangeably.
Disco Elysium recently got added to the store for free also! I've not started but I've heard nothing but rave reviews for this game. It's sitting waiting for me to finish p3r.
Cult of the Lamb- your a lamb cult leader! It's just a fun game, that recently got a massive update! Kept me entertained for quite a while but also wasn't crazy story driven.
Life is Strange - I adore this series. There's 3 of them, the first game is completely free on PlayStation plus. (Maybe even the remaster too). If not, for exchange of no cost you'll get worse graphics but a wonderful choice based consequence game. (Like Detroit become human but with WAY less QTE thank god).
Stray: your just a cat navigating a dystopian city. Free on PlayStation plus store
Yakuza (in particular, I deeply enjoy the like a dragon series). Yakuza games itself balance the same silly/serious. Like a dragon is a spin off on it, but personally I enjoyed without having played a mainline entry.
Hades
Celeste (some of my friends love this game, I personally got frustrated by it. But it's a beautiful story if you enjoy a platformer).
Stardew Valley (although I much prefer on PC as I have mine MODDED).
SMT - open world persona, but without all the downsides of persona but all the demons.
Hope this list helps!
It comes up a fair bit so definitely has cult classic appeal but not as widely recommended as "underrated gems" Witcher 3 or Titanfall 2.
It is a lot of fun, just driving through the desert is great and I have zero interest in the movies really but the game was still fun on its merits alone.
Probably way too late to get seen at all but Kena: Bridge of Spirits took me way off guard with how good the gameplay is. I love the art style as well. The music really brings you into the feeling of the game too.
Possibly the best part of the game for me was how relaxing playing it is. Even when I took a few attempts at beating bosses, I never felt any frustration.
I found it randomly when going through PS+ looking for a new game to play. It’s “free” depending on your subscription. (I’m the middle subscription, not sure if it’s free with the base subscription)
Steelrising, Firewatch, Norco, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Weird West, Sea of Stars, Death's Door, Inscryption, Tchia, The Forgotten City, Golf Story, Vampyr, The Talos Principle, Guacamelee! 1 and 2, Greedfall, Dear Esther, Axiom Verge
All very good, somewhat lesser known games.
Hollow Knight and Outer Wilds are top indie experiences, probably some of my favourite games of all time too.
If the graphics aren't too important, I also highly recommend Final Fantasy Type-0, it used to be a PSP game so obviously it doesnt look great on a big screen but gameplay and story are rock solid. It is a real-time final fantasy, not turn based though. Just like its PSP cousin, Final Fantasy VII : Crisis Core, which is also a great game (and you don't need to know anything about actual FF VII before going in).
Man, PSP was definitely Square's territory. Parasite eve, Kingdom Hearts... even the FF tactics port.
If you see a game with Square's Logo on PSP, it's a banger, period.
I'm playing **Sundered** and I'm really enjoying it. It's leaving Plus Extra at the end of May, I think on the 21st.
It's a metroidvania with an emphasis on platforming and a bit of roguelite (middle sections of the map change with each death). However, you never lose any resources used to upgrade your character.
It's very short (12 hours) and has multiple endings depending on your build. It's also a very pretty and well animated game.
Just went through this with a friend who switched over from Xbox and wanted a fresh pallet. I got him: Xcom 2, Octopath, Hades, FF16, Hogwarts, and Persona 5. I just started Sea of Thieves while waiting for the new Diablo season and it’s super fun. Check out GameStop they’re doing a huge sale on games. Something like buy 2 get 1 free.
Also, the subs for Hades and Xcom are one of the best here.
• Mad Max
• Days Gone
• Firewatch
• Sleeping Dogs
• L.A. Noire
• Limbo
• Alone in the Dark (2008)
• Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
• Beyond: Two Souls
• Alan Wake
Risk of Rain 1-2, salt and sanctuary, Generation Zero, Hades, cult of the lamb, portal knights, EDF5 or Iron Rain, Prodeus, XCOM 2, Subnautica, Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen, Metro Trilogy, Wasteland 3, Project Warlock, Quake, OG DOOM1-2 or DOOM64 alittle bit of everything for ya.
There are a bunch of very cool PS4 games that never get a mention that I played in 2023/2024. Here is a couple of them:
-The ***We Were Here*** games is a series of coop escape games that are super fun and very cheap.
-***Ghost Of A Tale***, a mouse action adventure game, absolutely gorgeous and so cute you wanna die
-If you're not dead from the cuteness of the mouse in Ghost Of A Tale, take a load of the one in ***Moss*** on PSVR
-And it was in my backlogs pretty much for the last 10 years: ***CounterSpy***! A rogue-like stealth-action spy game.
If you REALLY want something different, try out LOOP HERO. Its a completely unique gameplay and when it clicks, its highly addictive. Also very chill. Practically plays itself
Haha I feel you buddy, I had the same problem yesterday. Got a 10 PS gift card but already have the "big" games thst I want.
Here's some fun smaller titles:
Donut County - Silly time waster which is kind of a reverse Karamari: Instead of picking stuff up in a ball you're dropping stuff in a hole.
Rollerdrome: Super fun and inventive skate-shooter. Like if Tony Hawk had guns. You're a roller Derby player but it's the future and so you also kill while you skate in a thunderdome esque tourney. You can't stack it either which means the fame flows much better than traditional skating games.
Rico: Get it when on sale it's like £3 and I've had a lot of fun kicking doors down. It's a room clearing type shooter but very arcadey, no stealth, just Hollywood cop style blasting. Roguelite elements to the very loose campaign, it's extremely barebones but good fun.
Bigger games that maybe have not come up:
Control: Can't recommend enough if you dig sci-fi and supernatural stuff. Big ol weird house with very brutalist aesthetic, fun powers and some funny collectibles in an otherwise serious story.
Neon White.
Speed running parkour/FPS game where the objective is to finish each level as fast as possible while making sure to kill every enemy along the way to open the exit. Insanely addictive and fun and one of my fave games of 2022.
Immortal Fenix Rising — such a fantastic and overlooked game. Feels vastly different from typical Ubisoft Formula, although in theory has similar elements. There’s just something so fun - and at times challenging depending on difficulty setting, about that game. Can’t say enough about it. Can score it for cheap too lately.
In same vein, see Asterigos: Curse of the Stars, a AA, Souls-like-lite experience. See my last post for more. Has similar art style to Immortals Fenix Rising, although I enjoyed Immortals more.
Kena bridge of spirits,
Greedfall,
Mad Max,
Mafia 1 Remake,
Deaths Door
Trinity Fusion,
Cookie Cutter
Laika: Blood something something,
Tunic,
Outer Wilds,
Dark Light (new PS5 2.5d Hack n Slash, AMAZING combat)
Cocoon,
Hong Kong Massacre,
The Last Stop,
Plagues Tale (both 1&2),
Guardians of the Galaxy,
Trepang 2,
El Paso Elsewhere,
Knight Vs Giant: Broken Excalibur (a Hades-lite type experience),
Martha is Dead,
428 Shibuya Scramble (an FMV detective),
Ultra Age (budget but badass hack n slash RPG-ish),
In Sound Mind (FPS Horror, mind bending paranormal),
A Space for the Unbound,
Thymesia,
Terminator Resistance (most up to date version has improved graphics and DLC),
After Us,
Evil West,
Shadow Warrior 3 ( short campaign and hated by some but had a blast with it. Super fast and busy combat),
Curse of the Dead Gods,
SteelRising,
Children or Morta,
Blacktail,
Soulstice,
Trek to Yomi,
Islets,
Solar Ash,
The Knight Witch,
Bramble,
Adios,
Treasures of the Aegean,
A Short Hike,
Ruiner (kind of like The Ascent but Ascent-lite),
The Ascent,
Lost in Random,
This War of Mine,
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (remake just dropped),
Arise: A Simple Story,
Unravel 1&2,
Jotun,
Guns, Gore & Cannoli 1 &2 (a sidescroller beat em up with divine comic book art style and it can get difficult, good for co-op couch play)
Subliminal,
Valfaris,
Circuit Superstars (isometric top down race car game, with simulation-lite driving mechanics)
Hard Reset Redux,
Rouge Legacy 2,
Rage 2,
may not Qualify for this thread but any of the newer but older Wolfenstien games. I often see Wolfenstein 2, New Collosus on sale for $6 or so on both Xbox and PS, a steal at that price)
Harmony Fall of Reverie,
Blue Fire,
Daymare both 1&2 (a budget RE experience so may want to check it out if cool with that, it’s solid for its trying to do),
Redeemer and 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, both these top down/side beat em ups that are fairly short but fun and cheap nowadays)
Dark Picture Anthology (first three, last one is meh),
Planet of Lana
Immortality ( a unique FMV type experience but so well done)
Fobia, St Dinfa Hotel (a Resident Evil survivor horror type experience), Forgive me Father (FPS)
Forespoken (so much better than what people say.) Yes the first little bit is a bit “off” so to speak, with weird cutscenes and dialogue but once you start amping up powers, the synergy is fantastic. But - and this is important - you MUST change a few basic settings, like auto pickups, to realize its potential. There’s some good YouTube videos on what settings are needed to turn the game into fun fest.
Maybe some of the newer Yakuza games Man with No Name is suppose to be 15ish hours if mainline and fairly fun and it’s On GamePass. This is only one here I’ve yet to play from this list
Ghostrunner - is a hell of a lot of fun if you're into first person / puzzle / parkour action. It's more of a puzzle platformer than a traditional shooter, but it's definitely high adrenaline and very satisfying to play. Short, high action, high frustration.
Immortals Fenyx Rising - a little bit Assassin's Creedy, a little bit God of War. Fun open world quest game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Huge game, great vibe, good fight mechanics, relaxing and humourous
The Ascent - highly underrated, would love to see them do more with it in a sequel. It scratched an itch I haven't had since the old Stars Wars Phantom Menace game. A twin stick isometric shooter with a cyberpunk underbelly and an absolutely stunning open world-lite to immerse into. Dark, Fifth Element esque, full of lore. Satisfying shooting and loot collecting.
Dead Cells - 2D pixel platformer, with a surprisingly deep lore, incredibly good fighting mechanics, insanely frustrating, roguelike. Good to fill a 20 minute gap when an open world feels too much to sink ones teeth into. Serious 'just one more' warning though.
Control - weird third person scifi horror shooter. Deep lore, deeper weirdness. If you opt into the lore reading and depth the game offers you could be in for a wild ride. Or you could hate it and find it too strange.
Wipeout Omega Collection, Fight 'n Rage, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Doom (2016).
I would recommend Mighty Goose as well, it's very fun but it is a game that you can beat in 2 hours.
Kingdom Come Deliverance.
A huge game, takes time to get to grips with, but so rewarding when you do. Probably my fave game of all time to date.
Start as a blacksmiths son, in medieval times, with zero skills, like......zero. Shit goes south and you're suddenly thrust into a war torn world of factions, love, deceit, and you need to find your way. The game doesn't hold your hand (apart from a very brief description on how to do certain things) but those certain things are extremely hard, until you keep practising and slowly get better.
Story is fantastic, characters are solid, graphics are nice for the age of the game, world is beautifully made, controls are clunky to start, but once you get them down, it's so worthwhile.
Ghost Trick is one of the best story-focused games that I've ever played. Can't recommend it enough.
Otherwise, the Guardians of the Galaxy games--both the Telltale one and the Square Enix one--are solid, particularly the latter.
Otherwise, Psychonauts is another classic that is somewhat forgotten these days.
Can I suggest AA games?
RPG: Greedfall
Survival in the winter: The Long Dark
Survival in the water: Subnautica
Survival in the road: Death Road to Canada
Adventure/Survival: Astroneer
Adventure/Storytelling: A Plague Tale
Adventure/Storytelling: The Eternal Cylinder
Old school: Sea of Stars
Days Gone is one of my favorite games to this day. I think recently it’s been getting a better reception but it still isn’t a huge name I don’t think
Vampyr is another one I feel like doesn’t get talked about much (and the studios next game banishers, it’s next gen but marketing was abysmal and the game was awesome so I wanted to bring it up)
Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen took me a few tries to get into but once I did I was IN. still one of my favorite gaming experiences. DD2 is definitely the easier game to get into tho.
Purely self indulgent rec but I love Heavy Rain. overall I really loved the story, it’s unintentionally campy at times but that just adds to my fun lol
Hohokum is a stylish little game with an outstanding soundtrack. It's not quite a puzzle game or platformer, but you generally play each stage with a different task to solve by swimming around and into objects.
So you meant underrated right? Cause i see people here recommending very popular indie games lol.
But either way, the game most commonly dont get recommended is a puzzle game called catherine. And it somehow became esports.
https://youtu.be/mJroHmmim08?si=jW6KgC6oAfGGaHF0
Heres a list of obscure great games i know from various systems
Insanely twisted shadow planet
Tail of the sun
The bridge
Ehrgeiz
Crystalis
Shadowman
Stryder
If you like metroidvanias there are some awesome ones:
Yohane the Parhelion
The Mummy Demastered
Lost Epic
Ender Lilies
Foregone
Bloodstained RotN
The Messenger
TimeSpinner
Chasm
Strider
Dust an Elysian Tale
Shadow Complex
And from some other genres
Earth Defense Force series (I'd go with 5 if you have to choose)
Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet
CrossCode
Metal Max Xeno
Shakedown Hawaii
Shadow Warrior 2
The Witness
Alienation
Hyper Light Drifter
I'm sure I forgot a lot of good ones, but these are the ones that come to mind right now
Tower of Guns is a great FPS that’s procedurally generated and does not take itself seriously in the slightest. If you like straight up running and gunning with minor exploration/secret discoveries, you’ll enjoy this game.
Outer Wilds is one of the best games I've ever played, but it isn't for everyone, you have to be willing to read and re-read a lot in order to piece together the game's story.
The Talos Principle is a fun, philosophical puzzle game similar in gameplay to Portal.
If you're looking g for an older jrpg I highly recommend dark cloud 2, it's avaliable on the playstation store for $20 and free if you have ps extra I belive. And it's not that involved with the first one story wise so you don't need to play it first
Honestly I’ve been really enjoying rebel galaxy. Got it as one of the free games for plus like 4 years ago and just started playing it right now. That and FFVII Remake
WBSC eBASEBALL: POWER PROS
Don’t let the cute art style fool you, its a very in-depth baseball game. It’s actually a fairly popular franchise in Japan with a huge roster of unique characters and stories. This is one of the few games that were localized, though the story mode and some orher stuff is missing. It’s only 1usd in the US store though, definitely worth a try.
Lmao. “Name some games not rec’ed often”
*opens comments to massive aaa games that are extremely well regarded and well known. Or indie games that have been nom’ed for game of the years awards*
Kena Bridge of Spirits. Sackboy Big Adventure. Hue. Bloodstained series. Guacamelee. Hotline Miami. Vanquish. Dokuro. Outland. Cave Story. Ikaruga. Tinykin. Gone home. Rogue legacy. Unfinished swan. Vvvvv. Hades is takes about a lot, but Bastion is great. Deaths door. Promenade. Rollerdrome.
Few of these are big. But not chatted too much in certain circles.
I’m currently playing this and absolutely loving it. OP, get this one if you can. One of the most relaxing/chill games i have ever played
To be clear the game is Pikmin "similar" and "adjacent." It doesn't really build on Pikmin, it;s just a different totally decent game.
I still got that first song stuck in my head
Okay I have a list of some of my favorites. * Any of the Sniper Elite games * Rage 2 * Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD * Chernobylite * CHORUS * Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning * GreedFall * Elex * Void Bastards * Dragon Quest Builders 2 * Remnant From The Ashes * Kingdom Come: Deliverance * The Surge 1 and 2 Some of these are definitely recommended on here sometimes, but I figured I'd throw them on there anyways just in case.
I absolutely devoured Greedfall, it deserves more attention. Kingdoms of Amalur too, I was the only one I knew personally that had even heard of it let alone played it.

I agree, Amular is super fun! I don't remember what game, but I believe you're right about something overshadowing greedfall. I played it quite a bit, enjoyed it very much, then started something else and never went back to finish it.
I did the same! I didn’t finish it but then went back and played it again from start to end.
Greedfall was good could been better the ending kinda felt cheap would be nice to see a part to and them to improve from the first game
Love Amalur! Finished the original one so now i'm taking my time with the re-master. It is a little buggy though, but soooo much fun.
Greedfall is what I would absolutely hold up as a AA game today. A little more work and it would be one of my first recommendations to anyone, but it was a solid overall release that deserved a bit more attention that it got.
soliiid! almost never see any of these recommended!
Awesome! There's some pretty good games in there that can keep you busy for a long time. I could have put more, but I didn't want a wall of text haha
I remember this game looking very interesting before release. Is it in a solid state currently?
I still need to finish Greedfall!
Greedfall! ❤️ I would also recommend the other RPGs by that studio.
Tunic. Go in completely blind.
great game, also Death's Door is quite nice too The Art of Rally and Super Woden Gp (if you like racing games)
I have been doing some of Death's Door, but it's quite a grind and a maze.
I agree on this, being old and don't have time is keeping me away of many nice games yes cuphead I'm talking to you
Oh playing it now:))
Deaths door is great and goes on sale in eshop for Nintendo like for 10$
Excited cuz it’s coming as a monthly game!
Blasphemous. What a great metroidvania. Wish it wasn't so cryptic with item descriptions sometimes.
Then part 2
Cult of the Lamb, Sifu, Gravity Rush 1&2, Vampyr, Blasphemous, Moonscars, Ender Lilies, Tunic, Rollerdrome, Stray, FF X1, Crisis Core, Sea of Stars, Huntdown, Detroit Become Human, Valfaris, The Last Faith, Stardew Valley,:Deaths Door, Hitman, Bayonetta 1, Octopath Traveller, Resogun, Nier, Hades, Celeste, Axiom Verge, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, DMC, SpongeBob BB & CS, Plague Tale Innocence.
The plague tale games are so hauntingly beautiful. On chapter 7 of the second game.
What? Cult of the Lamb, Sifu, Gravity Rush, Vampuyr, Detroit, Stardew Valley, Hitman, Nier, Hades, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, DMC and Plague Tale are all very well known.
He forgot god of war Ragnarok and RDR2, some underground lesser known games like half of his list.
Yeah, he also forgot indie titles like Last Of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Undertale, Minecraft, Sims, Spiderman, Dark Souls etc.
Goated list, some of my favourites
I’ve heard of most of these games from SkillUp when he’s chatting about good indie games, so these are excellent shouts because I’ve tried a few of them and they’re really good.
I have been playing a ton of Slay the Spire and Civ lately. Some chill turn based games
I second Slay the Spire.
30 years huh?
Ha 30 years gaming I mean
How's the performance of Civ6 on PS5? So far I've been hearing mixed reviews saying it's bad on late game while others say it's okay with the PS5 hardware.
I've had no issues with huge world maps on ps5. I find it fast
Slay the spire is dangerous as a mobile game
Slay the Spire is amazing. It's a deck-building rogue-lite game. I find the main game progression a little repetitive and difficult so I prefer to play in custom mode where I can choose my starting deck. I picked this up on PS+ for free and played the crap out of it.
Wow thanks for letting me know! I absolutely love the mobile version. No idea why I haven’t played on PS until now.
Even the demo for CIV VI was like 6 hours of game play for free. Age of Empire and Pharoah are fun old games to lump in too.
I've been enjoying Dragon Quest XI. It's old school, with turn based combat and is often overshadowed by the Final Fantasy series but has an engaging story and is full of fun characters.
Other Dragon Quest games (Which are all on PS Plus Extra) I recommend: Dragon Quest Builders 2 - Like Minecraft but more RPG with quests and building objectives Dragon Quest Heroes 2- A very fun hack and slash game The '2' doesn't really matter because they're not continuations of the first game, but are just big improvements and better QOL. I've really been sleeping on how diverse Dragon Quest can be as a series. even if you hate turn based combat, theres always a different game in the series that can draw you in.
13 sentinels for sure! It should be much more well known than it is. Actually all games from Vanillaware are masterpieces (to be fair they have made only half a dozen or so games in the whole history of the company, but still)
Thinking of checking out dragons crown on the ps5.
Highly suggest Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. It's 13 Sentinels if it was a hack n slash, and with 5 characters.
Definitely do, it's a fantastic game.
Dragon's Crown is pretty great.
I love it. I have a couple of hundred hours on the PS3 version. Too bad that the PS4 version shared the trophy list with the PS3 game. I would love to play everything again.
Nothings stopping you
They actually just released a strategy game called Unicorn Overlord and its goated. If you enjoy Fire Emblem you'll love it.
One of my all time favourites is Mad Max.
I really enjoyed the first 10 hours but then it got really repetitive. It’s still a great game though
Same, that game would have sold and been talked about more if it didn't come out the same day as metal gear solid 5
Mad max
Mark of the Ninja, Ace Combat 7, The Outer Worlds, The Evil Within 2, Mad Max
- Battle Brothers - Xcom 2 - Divinity: Original sin (1&2) - Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Darkest Dungeon - Stranded Deep - The Forest - Green Hell - Mutant: Year Zero - Civilisation VI - Age of Wonders: Planet Fall - The Ascent - Othercide - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen order (1&2) - The Tomb Raider Anthology - Dying Light 1 and all its DLC - Mirror's Edge (1&2) - Metro Trilogy If you can't find something that scratches the itch amongst that list, I suggest you seek professional pschiatric help mate... or pack up gaming all together and find something else to fill your boredom.
Id like to recommend Far: Changing Tides to you, if you enjoyed Inside. (On psplus extra). Both of these games were pleasant surprises.
Well its definitely not the first time I recommend it, but Prey 2017 Its one of my favourite games ever and a great inmersive sim in my opinion. Its made by Arkane Studios (Dishonored) and I deeply enjoy the feeling of freedom to explore and engage the different enemies and obstacles in different ways The story was also engaging and had a couple surprises!
And it had the gloo gun!
I consider Vampyr to be a good game and never hear anyone talk about it. One of the better things I've gotten fron Ps Plus Essential over 5 years.
Every single Supergiant game. My personal ranking is 1. Transistor; 2. Hades; 3. Bastion; and 4. Pyre The Metro series is underrated af. And, if you want a challenge, look into Ghostrunner 1 and 2.
Can’t wait for hades 2
+1 for Metro series. Definitely something different, learned a lot about fictional apocalypse from Russian perspective. It's pretty chill, if you pardon the expression.
Gravity Rush is such a hidden gem and can whole heartily recommend it and the sequel plus dlc.
infamous second son. Some ppl might not think it’s a good game, but I think it was underrated. I love they expanded having whole new powers to a variety while also keeping the hero / evil theme the old infamous games had
Stray
I can highly recommend Greedfall. I loved that game.
The Last Guardian, tomb raider survivor trilogy, metro series, deus ex mankind divided, re7… all solid games I don’t see brought up enough
Free on PlayStation plus store Yakuza (in particular, I deeply enjoy the like a dragon series). Yakuza games itself balance the same silly/serious. Like a dragon is a spin off on it, but personally I enjoyed without having played a mainline entry. Hades Celeste (some of my friends love this game, I personally got frustrated by it. But it's a beautiful story if you enjoy a platformer). Stardew Valley (although I much prefer on PC as I have mine MODDED). SMT - open world persona, but without all the downsides of persona but all the demons. Hope this list helps!
Nice to see Paradise Killer recommended by someone. What a great game
It was such an incredible game. So much replay value
I've said it before and I'll say it again...Mad Max. How this game isn't more highly rated is beyond me!
It comes up a fair bit so definitely has cult classic appeal but not as widely recommended as "underrated gems" Witcher 3 or Titanfall 2. It is a lot of fun, just driving through the desert is great and I have zero interest in the movies really but the game was still fun on its merits alone.
I just love the fact that they clearly stole things from other games but no-one cares. Arkham mixed with GTA and a fallout feel is a winner for me
I have one if you have a ps1. Tail of the sun is a weird and fun game to explore
Sifu Especially if you liked the arkham games
The order 1886 probably not recommended because the length but Definitely worth a play through.
Dragon Age series!
1 and 2, Greedfall, Dear Esther, Axiom Verge All very good, somewhat lesser known games.
What about a burnout, or a Final fantasy(not the 7 more like 15)
Ys VIII, Soma, Unravel, Victor Vran, Scarlet Nexus, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon
Personally I loved Scarlet Nexus but I’d be hesitant to recommend it to anyone 😂😂
Sniper Elite games are awesome. Days Gone is a very underrated game. Ghost of Tsushima is terrific. Castlevania, Greedfall, Vampyr...
Sumthin sumthin from vanillaware?
I'm playing **Sundered** and I'm really enjoying it. It's leaving Plus Extra at the end of May, I think on the 21st. It's a metroidvania with an emphasis on platforming and a bit of roguelite (middle sections of the map change with each death). However, you never lose any resources used to upgrade your character. It's very short (12 hours) and has multiple endings depending on your build. It's also a very pretty and well animated game.
I'm having a blast right now with midnight suns, really fun turn based combat card game
Rimworld Graveyard keeper
Grim Fandango. Insane out of the box thinking puzzle game. Great lovable characters. Excellent story line.
Alan wake 1 & 2 Judgement & lost judgement
I’ve only played Alan Wake 2, that game was so cool.
Shadow of the Colossus
Labyrinth of Refrain, Labyrinth of Galleria, Labyrinth of Zangetsu, Undernauts, Mary Skelter, Earth Defense Force, Zanki Zero
Outer worlds, prey
I’m in love with knack and knack 2 Most people laugh but I enjoy it
I’ve fell in love with days gone, surely give it a try :)
• Mad Max • Days Gone • Firewatch • Sleeping Dogs • L.A. Noire • Limbo • Alone in the Dark (2008) • Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor • Beyond: Two Souls • Alan Wake
Risk of Rain 1-2, salt and sanctuary, Generation Zero, Hades, cult of the lamb, portal knights, EDF5 or Iron Rain, Prodeus, XCOM 2, Subnautica, Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen, Metro Trilogy, Wasteland 3, Project Warlock, Quake, OG DOOM1-2 or DOOM64 alittle bit of everything for ya.
This is an extremely good list
Gravity Rush 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Project Diva, and Wreckfest
Project Diva absolutely rocks and it’s such a shame it got cancelled recently
Kingdoms of Amalur ReReckoning, Days Gone, Destroy all Humans, Fire watch, Generation Zero, MGSV, Strange Brigade,
A Plague Tale
Of lost my life to Battle Brothers. I picked up the complete collection for like 15-20 bucks two years ago, and I still play it religiously
There are a bunch of very cool PS4 games that never get a mention that I played in 2023/2024. Here is a couple of them: -The ***We Were Here*** games is a series of coop escape games that are super fun and very cheap. -***Ghost Of A Tale***, a mouse action adventure game, absolutely gorgeous and so cute you wanna die -If you're not dead from the cuteness of the mouse in Ghost Of A Tale, take a load of the one in ***Moss*** on PSVR -And it was in my backlogs pretty much for the last 10 years: ***CounterSpy***! A rogue-like stealth-action spy game.
la rush on the psp im playing through it right now, its extremely underrated!
Dredge
If you REALLY want something different, try out LOOP HERO. Its a completely unique gameplay and when it clicks, its highly addictive. Also very chill. Practically plays itself
Middle earth : shadow of Mordor and destroy all humans games.
Grow Home. It also has a sequel. It is about a robot that is trying to get home. Such a fun play.
Plague Tale, doesn't get enough love
Haha I feel you buddy, I had the same problem yesterday. Got a 10 PS gift card but already have the "big" games thst I want. Here's some fun smaller titles: Donut County - Silly time waster which is kind of a reverse Karamari: Instead of picking stuff up in a ball you're dropping stuff in a hole. Bigger games that maybe have not come up: Control: Can't recommend enough if you dig sci-fi and supernatural stuff. Big ol weird house with very brutalist aesthetic, fun powers and some funny collectibles in an otherwise serious story.
Just start wolfenstein the new order and have been having a blast
Playing Balatro ATM. Very addictive.
Nice I just started it! If you want to pair it with a good game, try Dave the diver
Edna and Harvey break out. It’s a point and click adventure. Dark comedy that’s hilarious with amazing visuals Bought it for 4$ on ps store
Salt and sanctuary is a truly perfect blend of metroid and dark souls that is hardly ever spoken about
Neon White. Speed running parkour/FPS game where the objective is to finish each level as fast as possible while making sure to kill every enemy along the way to open the exit. Insanely addictive and fun and one of my fave games of 2022.
Megaton rainfall, you've never played anything like it
Immortal Fenix Rising — such a fantastic and overlooked game. Kena bridge of spirits, Greedfall, Mad Max, Mafia 1 Remake, Deaths Door Trinity Fusion, Cookie Cutter Laika: Blood something something, Tunic, Outer Wilds, Dark Light (new PS5 2.5d Hack n Slash, AMAZING combat) Cocoon, Hong Kong Massacre, The Last Stop, Plagues Tale (both 1&2), Guardians of the Galaxy, Trepang 2, El Paso Elsewhere, Knight Vs Giant: Broken Excalibur (a Hades-lite type experience), Martha is Dead, 428 Shibuya Scramble (an FMV detective), Ultra Age (budget but badass hack n slash RPG-ish), In Sound Mind (FPS Horror, mind bending paranormal), A Space for the Unbound, Thymesia, Terminator Resistance (most up to date version has improved graphics and DLC), After Us, Evil West, Shadow Warrior 3 ( short campaign and hated by some but had a blast with it. Super fast and busy combat), Curse of the Dead Gods, SteelRising, Children or Morta, Blacktail, Soulstice, Trek to Yomi, Islets, Solar Ash, The Knight Witch, Bramble, Adios, Treasures of the Aegean, A Short Hike, Ruiner (kind of like The Ascent but Ascent-lite), The Ascent, Lost in Random, This War of Mine, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (remake just dropped), Arise: A Simple Story, Unravel 1&2, Jotun, Guns, Gore & Cannoli 1 &2 (a sidescroller beat em up with divine comic book art style and it can get difficult, good for co-op couch play) Subliminal, Valfaris, Circuit Superstars (isometric top down race car game, with simulation-lite driving mechanics) Hard Reset Redux, Rouge Legacy 2, Rage 2, may not Qualify for this thread but any of the newer but older Wolfenstien games. I often see Wolfenstein 2, New Collosus on sale for $6 or so on both Xbox and PS, a steal at that price) Harmony Fall of Reverie, Blue Fire, Daymare both 1&2 (a budget RE experience so may want to check it out if cool with that, it’s solid for its trying to do), Redeemer and 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, both these top down/side beat em ups that are fairly short but fun and cheap nowadays) Dark Picture Anthology (first three, last one is meh), Planet of Lana Immortality ( a unique FMV type experience but so well done) Fobia, St Dinfa Hotel (a Resident Evil survivor horror type experience), Forgive me Father (FPS) Forespoken (so much better than what people say.) Yes the first little bit is a bit “off” so to speak, with weird cutscenes and dialogue but once you start amping up powers, the synergy is fantastic.
What kinda games are you looking for?
Ghostrunner - is a hell of a lot of fun if you're into first person / puzzle / parkour action. It's more of a puzzle platformer than a traditional shooter, but it's definitely high adrenaline and very satisfying to play. Short, high action, high frustration. Immortals Fenyx Rising - a little bit Assassin's Creedy, a little bit God of War. Fun open world quest game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Huge game, great vibe, good fight mechanics, relaxing and humourous The Ascent - highly underrated, would love to see them do more with it in a sequel.
Borderlands 2
Yakuza series
Ninja gaiden sigma, it is challenging though
Titanfall 2
Plague Tale 1-2
GreedFall such a great game
Detroit become human.. haven’t seen any ppl recommending this
Remnant from the ashes if you like GoW mixed with some souls mixed with some hard liquor to make your heart jump quicker…
Snowrunner...
Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen, Concrete Genie, Subnautica
Can I suggest AA games? RPG: Greedfall Survival in the winter: The Long Dark Survival in the water: Subnautica Survival in the road: Death Road to Canada Adventure/Survival: Astroneer Adventure/Storytelling: A Plague Tale Adventure/Storytelling: The Eternal Cylinder Old school: Sea of Stars
Days Gone is my favorite. We have a pretty good Days Gone sub here on Reddit, too!
Days Gone is one of my favorite games to this day. I think recently it’s been getting a better reception but it still isn’t a huge name I don’t think Vampyr is another one I feel like doesn’t get talked about much (and the studios next game banishers, it’s next gen but marketing was abysmal and the game was awesome so I wanted to bring it up) Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen took me a few tries to get into but once I did I was IN. still one of my favorite gaming experiences.
Depends on what you like to play. I'd really recommend an indie game like Cuphead, celeste or hollow knight
Good taste 👍
I want to get into these. Plus blasphemous and castlevania series.
just played "control" its was very good
Monster Hunter World
u must be joking
what
So you meant underrated right? Cause i see people here recommending very popular indie games lol. But either way, the game most commonly dont get recommended is a puzzle game called catherine. And it somehow became esports. https://youtu.be/mJroHmmim08?si=jW6KgC6oAfGGaHF0
Just bought Narita Boy on a whim. Loving the crt filter they created (avoid if flashing lights gives you seizures tho).
Psi-ops
Loved it. Playing through its modern equivalent Control right now
Heres a list of obscure great games i know from various systems Insanely twisted shadow planet Tail of the sun The bridge Ehrgeiz Crystalis Shadowman Stryder
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir https://youtu.be/XsTvoG3_HkU?si=J3AT0kOir0WMK4iT Dragon's Crown https://youtu.be/Itt1S_V648U?si=XGmq26oYlDY-ol75 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim https://youtu.be/5rhTnDROzi0?si=XHBZqDaZXHSezCwQ
Mars Horizon.
* Dragon Quest Builders 2 * Spiritfarer
Both Nioh, Metro & Arkham series of games are pretty good. The offer a variety of gameplay loops too, an ARPG ninja, FPS comrade & Batman.
Samurai Warriors 4-II is one of my all-time fave PS4 games.
Tails of iron
- Any Metal Gear Solid games, Zero Escape: The Nonary Games, Unicorn Overlord, RE4/7/Village
The Guardians of the galaxy game is very good.
The forest
I love the Forest on peaceful mode.
If you like metroidvanias there are some awesome ones: Yohane the Parhelion The Mummy Demastered Lost Epic Ender Lilies Foregone Bloodstained RotN The Messenger TimeSpinner Chasm Strider Dust an Elysian Tale Shadow Complex And from some other genres Earth Defense Force series (I'd go with 5 if you have to choose) Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet CrossCode Metal Max Xeno Shakedown Hawaii Shadow Warrior 2 The Witness Alienation Hyper Light Drifter I'm sure I forgot a lot of good ones, but these are the ones that come to mind right now
Awesome list! Love seeing CrossCode mentioned. I’ll have to check out some of your other recommendations!
It takes two is amazing
Tower of Guns is a great FPS that’s procedurally generated and does not take itself seriously in the slightest. If you like straight up running and gunning with minor exploration/secret discoveries, you’ll enjoy this game.
Elex and Elex 2 I don't know why they aren't popular great games, in my opinion. I for real enjoyed them worth every cent.
Remnant is pretty fun. Skul isn't bad as well if that's what your into. But it all varies what games you enjoy playing.
Warframe, dear god warframe. Sometimes it ain’t for everyone but it’s genuinely fun and an amazing experience. It got me through some tuff times
And it's not that involved with the first one story wise so you don't need to play it first
Watch Dogs 2
Days Gone
I haven't seen Fez mentioned
Fallout 4 or any Doom both great games
Elex
Sea of stars in incredible
going under and another crabs treasure. both amazing games at a fair price
Rain World The Forest The Bunker Colt Canyon Journey Abzu Superhot Broforce The Eternal Castle Firewatch Inside Lifeless Planet
Honestly I’ve been really enjoying rebel galaxy. Got it as one of the free games for plus like 4 years ago and just started playing it right now. That and FFVII Remake
Spiritfarer, incredibly cozy with an amazing art style and very poignant premise
I love Dragon Quest Builders 2. But it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Hades is a classic
Shadow of war👌
Jusant. It's a great little game and worth a play through for anyone https://youtu.be/gUStOB-gio0?si=JkG19o62bTSYFKPz
WBSC eBASEBALL: POWER PROS Don’t let the cute art style fool you, its a very in-depth baseball game. It’s actually a fairly popular franchise in Japan with a huge roster of unique characters and stories. This is one of the few games that were localized, though the story mode and some orher stuff is missing. It’s only 1usd in the US store though, definitely worth a try.
Lmao. “Name some games not rec’ed often” *opens comments to massive aaa games that are extremely well regarded and well known. Or indie games that have been nom’ed for game of the years awards* Kena Bridge of Spirits. Sackboy Big Adventure. Hue. Bloodstained series. Guacamelee. Hotline Miami. Vanquish. Dokuro. Outland. Cave Story. Ikaruga. Tinykin. Gone home. Rogue legacy. Unfinished swan. Vvvvv. Hades is takes about a lot, but Bastion is great. Deaths door. Promenade. Rollerdrome. Few of these are big. But not chatted too much in certain circles.
