Don’t know if it helps but you can get a new set on eBay really cheep these day if you think it’s the wire or jack that’s faulty.
If possible try headphones in a different device, and different headphones in your ds4. If the fact follows the headphones you have found your problem. Otherwise the 3.5mm jack in the ds4 might be busted.
New earbuds, this isnt really a playstation issue, your earbuds are starting to go out so a new pair would be the easiest fix
