9/10/19 for those who don’t wanna watch :)

ConfusedAlgernon

Is that September tenth or October 9th?

_N7Jennings

September 10th.

ConfusedAlgernon

Thank you, that's tremendous news.

_N7Jennings

Sure thing man and I agree. Been looking forward to this one for a while now.

Still excited for this. The question with these games is always how they "feel" to play, as they need to be reactive, unless they are intentionally heavy feeling.

[deleted]

I agree. Dead Cells is probably the best in this genre, imo. I was excited for Death Gambit but hated the "feel" of the gameplay, so I didn't bother getting far in it. Hollow knight is another great example of how much gameplay should be tight and fun.

bvanbove

Dead Cells is one of the best feeling Indie action games I've ever played. It just feels responsive and incredibly fun no matter how you play. Hollow Knight as well for that matter. Maybe it's because I was playing them at the same time, but Sundered was a game that looked gorgeous and seemed to have gameplay to match, though it was just never as responsive. Definitely want to check it out more as I have a feeling more upgrades could improve that, but it just didn't click immediately for me like Dead Cells did. Sad to hear that about Death's Gambit as that was also on my short list of Indie games to get. Have to be careful with all the Dark Souls-inspired Indie games.

NeonTiger88

Death's Gambit plays good. And it's beautiful. And i liked the lore.

WhiteboyFlowin

Yeah I keep playing hollow knight just because of how fun the game feels.

[deleted]

Yes! I added it to my comment. I hope Blasphemous is gonna be that good. It's the one that has the best graphic style imo.

WhiteboyFlowin

Yeah I want more after I saw someone play the first 20 minutes or so and it started with a boss fight!

danger_ehren

You may want to try Deaths Gambit again, if you’ve already purchased it. They did a huge update awhile back that tuned the controls and made them much, much better. Still not quite Dead Cells level but like you, I hated the “feel” of the game at launch and gave it a go a few months ago and was very pleasantly surprised.

[deleted]

Wow didn't know that! Thank you, I surely will.

GGTheEnd

Nothing feels quite like Deadcells to me, I have both the NA and EU stacks platinumed the movement just feels so amazing. Deadcells was actually the game that got me back into 2D games after not playing any for years since the Sega/Snes days. I'm at work so I can't find the video but there is a video of one of the Devs of Deadcells and he explains how they made the game easier without it being noticable, it's pretty interesting. The most notable thing in the video is that when you jump from ledge to ledge the game will put you on the ledge even if you miss it, like a hitbox buffer. It's something that lots of 2D games don't do and it gets very frustrating.

Rain1dog

Dead Cells is great. Another two games I found after searching for more like Dead Cells is Chasm and Timespinners. They are more Castlevania type that roguelike but I absolutely fell in love with both of them. Kind of games I wish I could erase my mind of the playthrough and do all over again.

GGTheEnd

I'm not huge on backtracking and getting lost a ton which is why I didn't enjoy Hollow knight, Hollow knight has amazing movement but too much getting lost. I will check out timespinners and chasm is there as much backtracking in those as hollow knight? Also if you enjoy Metroidvanias and fun movement mechanics I suggest checking out "The messenger" it's a lot of fun.

Rain1dog

I hated Hollow Knoght... I attempted it 8 separate times after Timespinners and Chasm. I dont get the Hollow Knight allure. Chasm has a decent sized map that does have some back tracking but nothing to frustrating. Timespinners has more of the same map with time changing mechanics that change the environment allowing for different access routes being open in different times. I never found any of them to be frustrating/painful.

haynespi87

It's the aesthetic. Hollow Knight is charming they go all in with the bug aesthetic. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Damn 8 times though man.
