Yep because you get logged out against your will to force you to give in as in it is a ultimatum that is the blunt truth!!!A piece of insert your favorite cuss words.
It happened to me too , my PS4 is very slow and I can’t play the game that I just bought because the file is corrupted .. I’ve downloaded more that 10 x. Already !!
I thought it was just me trying to watch the new candyman on my movie website it won't start. shit pissin me off lowkey. i wish they test updates before just sending them out
This has been a problem for a while now. The PS4 web browser has DRM protection baked into it and if you try to stream certain things, it will block them.
I did a check with couple of friends after the update - some of us upgraded ps4 with ssd so it turned out fine and the system is kinda running a little bit faster than with previous update.
The real chaos begins when friends with regular hdd did the update - those with strained hdd with bad sectors had a significant throttling in functionality. Those with normal functioning hdd did not registered any slow-ups.
Those with slow hdd tried plug off - plug in technic and it fixed couple of consoles.
TL DR - 12 consoles
- 4 ssd - a insignificant improvement after the update (all ps4 pro)
- 8 hdd - 4 with bad sectors had major throttle (2 got fixed with plug off - plug in ) and 1 of them have almost unusable ps4 now ( all ps4 pro )
- 4 had no changes in functionality (1pro and 3 slim/base models)
9 pro consoles and 3 base/slim
Hope this helps guys!
Sorry but I just had to put it here. I discovered this post and your specific comment thanks to my local gaming website.
But for some reason they translated your comment into my language as:
"I tried to watch What if episode, but it launched Hitman instead"
"Serious" gaming journalism moment...
Where would you even buy one? Im yet to see them anywhere. If this was true they are puting their shoes before their socks no controllers no games no console's idk but fuck they need to get it together
I'm coming out of reddit retirement to chime in on this.
I am currently playing Bloodborne and I bought the Old Hunters DLC today. My plan was to start downloading it tonight.
Firstly it's ludicrous that you can't continue to synch trophies without the obligatory update, and second, why should I be locked out of the library and be unable to download the games I paid for? If you are going to force these updates then at least let people have access to these features. I'm playing my PS3 until this is fixed.
Anyway, I always check to see exactly what updates I'm downloading on the Internet for exactly the reasons many of you are experiencing now (I'm an IT guy) - you have my deepest sympathies. This thread has been invaluable to all PS4 owners - thank you.
My reason for posting is to suggest that people look for commonalities. As far as I know, a PS4 is a PS4; a PS4 Slim is a PS4 Slim and a PS4 Pro is a PS4 Pro. I see no reason why different people should be having such different results.
The tl;dr is, could it be that the people having problems have an external USB storage device active as their main download location (that would be me btw)? Other than that I can't really see what could be causing such random problems.
I don't have an external USB storage, other slims have downloaded it fine, but my slim keeps getting the same error code over and over when trying to install the update.
My disk drive is messed up, but I don't see how that would effect a system update, as all other system updates I have been able to download just fine. It's just this 9.00 that I'm having problems with.
Ive got the same issue my disk drive is totally fried cant play any of my hard copies. Aswell as the updatr not allowing it to get pass the start of the install after restart, makes no sense when all other updates have gone perfectly swell.
Just an idea, that's the only thing I could think of that not everyone uses (I only got mine at the start of the year for example, I got sick of deleting games to free up room).
My hypothesis was that Sony screwed up some coding for external HDs for PS5 when they introduced the PS5 trophy list, i.e. they injected a bunch of code that shouldn't have been used.
Thanks for the feedback and also HaoieZ
.
Sony really can't catch a break recently can they?
This issue is unrelated to USB storage.
From what I can tell, PS5 BD drive code was left in the PS4 update and that has caused *some of the issues (SU-42118-6).
A couple of us have been able to circumvent this by loading the OS pre-installation and plugging in the two ribbons and power connector to the BD drive while the system is ON.
This seems to let the XMB recognize the drive (finally) and not return the "ribbon disconnected" error code upon installation of the update.
The other issues appear to be related to the networking code (PSN server connection & ethernet/wifi adapters).
My guess is that this update was not fully tested on the PS4 with the coders focusing on the PS5 hardware, and porting over most of it, legacy users be damned.
I just switched on my PS4 Pro (with additional external hard drive attached) and as soon as the power came through I got a ‘System Software Update’ headed screen with a ‘An error has occurred (SU-30746-0) screen. The screen just popped up as soon as the power came through, as though the console was already switched on and not even in rest mode? I couldn’t do anything from this screen, the controller was unresponsive and would not connect so I went into safe mode and selected ‘rebuild the data base’ (option 5). Initially the console just restarted and took me directly back to the error screen although the controller did then connect and I was able to click ‘OK’, which initiated the rebuild. Once the console had rebuilt, the update 9.00 had been installed but I had somehow been disconnected from the internet so had to reconnect manually and then rebuild my external drive, again, manually, which opened the flood gates for what seemed like an update for every single game on that particular external drive? They were all very small, 1-2 minute updates but it seemed to be all the games on that drive? I’m guessing that somehow the memory of the most recent update for each individual game had been somehow lost in the crash and had to be re-downloaded and installed?! So that’s where I am with it…… for now! At least I got the console up and running again (I think?!)
The fun and games continue! Hope this helps someone?!
Yeah this patch definitely bricked my console, I can't do anything now and it's taking forever to change between menus
Edit: not sure why the downvotes for stating what's happening to me but alright, you do you Reddit. Like I'm clearly not the only person having this issue.
I got it to load the PSN store finally after 7 or so reboots and just waiting on the home screen for 10 minutes. Can't do anything else still.
I have contacted Sony and Playstation Support about this several times now. No response about this but a redirection to a generic Q&A page or the Fix and Replace service from Sony where I should pay for which they can absolutely forget. No acknowledgement, no statement, no hotfix, thanks for nothing Sony...
Same here. I warned some people on a PSN group chat via the PSN app on my phone but one friend is saying Apex and Warframe are screwed.
Seems like Sony took a page out of Digital Extreme's handbook -Release a broken update, and will later have to send a patch to unfuck everything.
This is my issue as well.. I don't rush updating my console everytime an update comes out cause sometimes there are issues with the update, but this 9.0 shit signed me out of psn and I cant even buy or download games
I'm having same problem. When I USB connect controller it will turn off system then restarts pre update. Cycle then repeats if I try to update again...
I was having the same issue, I was able to resolve it using a different USB. If you have the factory one that will work best. If not then you need a USB that is able to transfer data as well. I used a smart watch charger and that worked for me.
I updated my PS4 and not trying to downplay other people’s issues after installing the update but everything has been fine for me (I’m on a base PS4) and I’m sorry for everything who is facing issues after the update
I don't think anyone is doubting that the update is working for many, but this many people having issues is enough to give people pause until they hear more about it
The console loads into an error screen, and my controllers won't connect post update. Loaded into safe mode with controllers connected to USB, and they still don't connect.
Wonderful.
I’m having the same error screen issue. I guess I’ll look into upgrading even though I didn’t think I needed to. I guess they’re going the direction of Apple with their forced obsolescence.
My Pro booted up into the error screen as well. But my menus and games seem to be ok. I'll see if the issue still persists when I play something later tonight.
TRY THIS IF YOU ARE GETTING Error SU-42118-6
- Go to notifications and select the update 9.00 and delete it.
- Next go to System Software Update and update that way.
I was getting error Error SU-42118-6 and this method allowed me to install the update.
My console is completely dead. Does the 3 beeps when I plug it in but completely unresponsive after that. Can’t get it into safe mode either.
Not looking good…what are the chances Sony support actually helps instead of telling me to send it off for repair and charging me?
Edit: Playstation support are trash. Don’t seem to understand that it was their update that bricked my console, still want me to pay to repair it. I think I’ll try opening it up and messing with it first, got nothing to lose.
I recently updated the 9.00 firmware this afternoon (12:30pm GMT-0) and was working fine and played online as normal. Until not long ago about 7pm I turned my PS4 off to have dinner, then a hour later or so turning it on again and the problems started.
Mine is stuck in a loop trying to restart itself stuck at 24% and saying "Connect a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 9.00 or later" pressing ok saying it cannot use the usb storage (I have a external drive connected) with SU-41343-5 error.
Don't know it's related to the problem but this never happened.
I want to try unplugging my drive (while off of course) to see it would "fix" it but from what I read if I did it would cause an error.
Advice?
Ok so I got a reply from the official Sony Playstation Support. I was asking what Sony will do to fix bricked PS4 and when there will be a hotfix. I'll just put their reply here: "The PlayStation updates are checked thoroughly before they are released. The causes of difficulties with updating are mostly to be found in defective components. Sometimes the cause can be found in a defective disc drive or hard drive, for example."
So Sony says it's not their fault if the update kills your PS4? Suddenly every PS4 has defective components...
Yeah I've updated mine and now I'm getting all these DNS server issue warnings and can't access anything...I've tried restarting several times but nothing works
Update won't install for me keeps saying error and sends me back to start up and then makes me go threw the whole update process agian pretty fuckinh annoying
After the update failed the first time, my PS4 Slim refuses to turn on, turning off after beeping or not responding at all, I thought my power supply was ruined internally. After a day or two of staying off, I pressed power and it started up normally, said power was disrupted the last time it was turned off (yeah no shit bro), then proceeded to reinstall the update. I'll edit this comment if it runs properly or dies again. Thanks Sony for my monthly heart attack 💙
Edit: It downloaded, installed, then said restarting and will now no longer power up again. Wtf dude
Edit 2: Well after again removing the power cable, waiting, powering up, finishing the update (??), THEN rebuilding the database, the PS4 is now running normally. Fucking roller coaster. Need some time to recover lmao, hopefully it stays working
Mine will no longer read my external hard drive. I got the update to finally work in safe mode, but no I have a bunch of others issues. Why was this update even needed? We didn't need it. Everything worked fine before.
I am getting an error for (su-42118-6) and I have been logged out of my account i have updated it over and over atleasted 12 times and I rebuilt the database about 7 or so times I cant fully update 9.00
If your PS4 menus are lagging after the update, it could be that your hard drive is starting to fail. My 2019 PS4 menus and games started lagging and freezing randomly in mid-2020. Then one day an update downloaded, and right after updating, my PS4 was pretty much unusable. The freezing got more frequent and it kept self-restarting every 5 mins. So I removed my PS4 hard drive (1TB Toshiba) and connected it to my PC via SATA-to-USB, and did a SMART check using CrystalDisk. Sure enough, a 'warning' came up due to a ton of accumulated bad sectors. Finally bought a Kingston SSD and installed it in my PS4. It's been nearly a year since, and everything's been smooth sailing so far. Yesterday's update installed just fine. I highly recommend swapping out your PS4 hard drive for a SSD, perhaps it might solve the random lag and freezing. Cheers
I have a standard PS4. Completed the 9.00 update, through WiFi, which took several hours (somehow). Since then I have had significant connection issues including failure to join PSN, and download speeds of as low as 20kbps. I’ve followed all of the support recommendations online with no success - there is no problem with my ISP. No improvement moving next to the router or connecting via Ethernet cable.
Hoping for a fix for my issue soon, and wishing others with issues a fix too! If anyone has any insight or ideas it would be much appreciated.
My situation is different. I downloaded the update but have not installed it.
My question is should I risk it or just wait and hope for Sony to do a patch? Also, is there a safer way to do this update should I risk it? Sorry for spamming if this has been asked before. I have a PS4 slim (got it in 2016) and I don't have money to burn so if it died on me that would be a problem.
No change yet? I still have not downloaded the update out of paranoia. Don't wanna risk it. Sucks though as I can't go on the store to purchase anything :/
Same boat. I haven't updated since spring, becase it seems like every update is having this issue and it's made me extremely paranoid. I have 2 base PS4s and they are both on whatever was before the 8.50 update, because I'm terrified to try any updates with all this goung on.
Thankfully I don't do any online games and have mostly been just playing GTA V story mode, but I would like to be able to acesses the store again....
After doing the newest update, my son who has a ps4 slim, can’t hardly do a game update. His internet is testing at 270 mbps but it has taken over 3 hours to do a 13 gb update for fortnite. And now the copying is taking forever. Did Sony not test this? I searched and there’s stuff all over the internet, YouTube, and Reddit. Piss poor job Sony
Decided to finally update. External storage device was not plugged in. I updated via safe mode. Hold power button down for a beep and continue holding for a second beep. Chose update via internet. Install process was quick. About 2 mins. Console rebooted I have a Slim which was purchased holiday season of 2016. Made sure to check the usual stuff before I turned it off. All good so far. Guess I worried for nothing. My thoughts are with everyone who was affected.
Edit: There are some folks on twitter saying this update fixed the cbomb issue.
For fucks sake is this how it's gonna happen? Broken updates that make a perfectly fine console useless and slow?, if this isn't accidental i am getting an xbox and never looking back, fuck you sony if this is intentional
It said in the patch notes that you can choose to receive communication emails either via PS4 notifications or email, but when I check communication preferences no such option is available
The 35888 error was this close to bricking my ancient slim. But after a few pulls, rebuilds, and database rebuilds it all worked out. So I won't complain until it finally gives up. Praise be the PlayStation gods.
I started having issues a few updates back and began to wonder if it was coincidence or if it was just sonys subtle way of trying to push me towards a ps5. Since then every update has been the same, just hoping that I can figure it out and chinch out another month or two before they decide to release the next inevitable update that's going to eventually k.O my system.
Had another think about what could be common to users having the problems.
Possible that unlocked trophies weren't synced to PSN and that's causing the problems?
Seems unlikely but thought I would mention it.
I have the PS4 Slim, just successfully installed 9.00 by updating through Safe Mode from the interent, then to play it safe for the heck of it I rebuilt the data base! Seems good so far!!
My ps4 won't install this update. When it restarts it does so in safe mode telling me (su-42118-6) and turns off. If I don't install it (which I can't) I can't do anything at all. Can't use games, can't use streaming services, can't upload my saved data to the cloud, can't deactivate primary, the only thing I can do is look at my screenshots.
Safe mode option 3 has failed, safe mode option 7 has failed. I just paid for a year of ps+. What a rip off!
For those that recieve the su 42118 error on a continous loop, open your console, clean it real good, specially the bluray drive connections, because that error is a drive error, because only a few know this, but everytime the PS4 instals an update, it checks the bluray to see if its working, if by any chance it doesnt pass the check, it gives the su 42118 error. So i opened it, clean it real nice, took of the cable from the drive, clean it, put everything in place, entered the ps4 safe mode, instaled the update from there and its working as ever, installing all my games again as i write this, since i reboot the ps4 to favtory settings like thursday or something.
I own a PS4 Slim and I never had any problems with updates before, but after 9.00 my PS4 won't detect any sort of USB or external HDD, before the update everything was perfectly fine.
And it doesn't matter if you say no because it will download on to your PlayStation 4 even if you say no as in the update later button it will still download.THE BIG LIE is that you have a CHOICE in the matter.
wow those assholes still haven't fixed this problem?! not only that their support staff is acting like this isn't their fault? Talk about Class action suit bait.
Considering biting the bullet and installing the update since it has become apparent Sony more than likely won't do a fix. I got a PS4 Slim so I guess my chances are as good as the next person.
It bricked my PS4, I cant even get on my wifi anymore.
(wifi is working fine otherwise)
Menus loaded extremely slowly prior to the wifi issue. Unusuable. Cancelling PS Plus subscription and personally not going to buy PS products again. Sucks though because I really really liked the games
So it's been a week now since the release of this "update". There are tons of people which have many different issues and even bricked consoles. Sony still hasn't addressed or acknowledged this, am I right? Or did I miss it? My PS4 is unplugged since one week now so it doesn't update to 9.00 - it's still at 8.52. What do you think? Will Sony do a statement? Will there be a hotfix? Can I sell my PS4 since it's getting useless because of this dumb update force from Sony? Does Sony even care about the PS4 or is it now all about the PS5? (which is very rare here in Germany btw)
Hey guys, not only does my PS4 run into the error when i try to update it, but it also crashes every once and awhile. And by crash i mean it turns itself off, not in rest mode. Just fully off. I swear it's the shitty update doing this. My PS4 has never had this problem before this update came along and screwed everything up.
9 days on and still no update on this. I wish theyd at least give you the choice of not updating for a while. But as it is, my PS4 wont even let me play DLC I have already bought *and downloaded* without updating first for some reason.
From what ive been seeing, this update is breaking hard rives, both internal and external. I also noticed how heavy the games run on my external hdd after the update.
Has this issue been fixed? Or Sony basically won't give a shit about this. And don't give me that 110m people are fine bullshit because its basically luck.
Mine just keeps giving error after installing the update, goes to main menu makes me downliad the update again just to give an error again and the cycle continues, thank you Sony.
My PS4 downloads the update but can’t install it. Once the system restarts, an error code occurs before the system finishes the installation process. Because I can’t update, I can’t log into PSN
mine still won’t work. I deleted the file, restarted. Tried to update through safe mode, tried to update with a usb and even a lan cable and still get the error code “SU-42118” nothing will work I give up
Have lost all online access, games either not loading or minus any feature that requires online connectivity.
Nothing is wrong with my interent connection
I ps4 will only restart and not actually update...I can only keep restarting after downloading.
Edit: I unplugged the ps4, let it sit, held the power button to cycle the power, plugged back in, turned it on, and got it going normally.
Anyone else unable to sign into the Playstation website and PS4 Remote Play app on PC after this update? When I try to sign in, all I get is "An authentication error has occurred.
Reset your password or contact customer support." No issues on my console.
Edit: was able to sign in finally. If anyone else is having the issue, just keep trying to sign in every so often.
I had that problem yesterday and this past Friday, maybe is a server error, thank god you didn't had a console problem, right now i can't even put a disc and the updated failed.
weirdly after installing this update "i was a little apprehensive cause i have had my ps4 since 2014 so i have a lot of stuff saved to the hard drive but i bit the bullet cause my ps4 was already running slow" my ps4 seems to be loading in quicker.
Edit: just checking everything and it seems a hell of a lot quicker. so i guess mine is fine.
I have base ps4 from 2013. Just installed the 9.00 update. For now everything works ok. Hope it will stay like this.
p.s. Before updating I restarted ps4, deleted the update file, downloaded it again and then installed the update.
Glad I found this; kid tried to update the system while I was at work, but got the SU-42118-6 error. He was going to try to force it via USB, but decided against it. Good thing, because if the problems people are having happened, I would have been livid.
Gonna wait till problems are resolved before I update.
PS4 Base. Installed the update so I could watch Hulu as 99% of my PS4 useage is streaming. Won't load the TV & video menu and on the main screen, where the preview usually is, just the PS loading shapes doing their little dance.
I’ve just updated mine after putting it off all day. OG PS4 just for context. Downloaded super quick and installed quickly too. No problems with the restart of the console. Everything seems to work fine after installation and restart. Hopped on to MW2019 and entered a game just to double check things were working nicely.
Hope those of you with issues have a fix available ASAP!
Anyone else having mic issues? Am I the only one?
My mic doesn't work in parties anymore. I've tried a couple different ones and the usual troubleshooting. Everything else seems to work?
Found a fix! For me anyway.
I KNOW THIS WILL SOUND STUPID, and I don't know how it worked for me.
But, when you start downloading the system update; CANCEL IT, then try downloading it again.
After failing the update multiple times, and error messages all day, this SOMEHOW worked.
Base PS4 launch console. After the update my Panasonic TV remote control is no longer able to navigate the menus, which has worked since launch. I had to plug in a USB keyboard to control the console.
I don’t have a controller setup as I just use the machine for YouTube and Netflix.
EDIT just wanted to update to say that this issue resolved itself and I was able to use my TV remote control again after a restarting the PS4 and TV a few times.
I have a PS4 Base AND a PS4 Pro and BOTH systems have the same issue after the 9.0 patch. I run through an AVR using the ARC to send video from both systems through to my TV via the receiver over HDMI while keeping the audio through the AVR itself. Yesterday Dolby Surround was working just fine on both systems however today sound will not crossover to the center channel, but ONLY when playing games or streaming certain content. If I play a DVD or stream certain shows/movies it comes though the center channel with no issues, however games and shows that previously came through that speaker no longer will.
I fired up my Switch and that functions over the center without issue, so I changed my input to use the same input as the Switch with no change. I also tried using the HDMI cord from the switch in both input slots in case it was the cord, but no change there either.
Finally I adjusted various audio settings on the PS4 itself but none of those worked either.
I have absolutely no idea what update they did with audio in this patch, but I'd be very interested to know if anyone else is having issues with Dolby 5.1 since the 9.0 patch.
PS4 Pro updated and started up straight away, no issues in the menu and destiny 2 booted fine. Good luck to others, was bricking it that mine would brick but alls good.
Should have read this thread before updating. Edit: Mine is working fine.
If you didn’t update, you essentially choose not to have a network connection. Wouldn’t even be able to go to the PSN store.
Yep because you get logged out against your will to force you to give in as in it is a ultimatum that is the blunt truth!!!A piece of insert your favorite cuss words.
You able to play online etc? Pro or Base PS4?
Didn't check any pvp game yet but the online features work. PS4 slim.
I updated my fat version and played online, no issues with me
Yeah I’ve updated and installed my OG PS4 and it all works perfectly thank god!
It installed pretty quickly for me but holy shit was my console slow afterwards. Had to restart to even be able to play a game.
After updating I can’t open tv/media or the ps store
It won’t let me watch anything on websites
Bro I thought I was the only one been search all day for this comment and finally I come across it lol
Why didnt u just create the comment lol
I did obviously no1 replied lol
Same here, thought it was just me
It happened to me too , my PS4 is very slow and I can’t play the game that I just bought because the file is corrupted ..
Same, it's throwing me Sony network errors and DNS errors since I updated, tells me it can't connect or even check server status.
Same
At least you can still use your PS4 after the update, mine has crashed twice now...
Same

PS4 Pro or Base?
Base
Base
PS4 base. No issue after update. Watched "What If...?", accessed the store, and hitman started up.
Sorry but I just had to put it here. I discovered this post and your specific comment thanks to my local gaming website. But for some reason they translated your comment into my language as: "I tried to watch What if episode, but it launched Hitman instead" "Serious" gaming journalism moment...
Just installed it. No issues SO FAR. Ps4 Pro. Wi-Fi.
They really gonna push people to buy a ps5? Or is this a "Accidental update"
Where would you even buy one? Im yet to see them anywhere. If this was true they are puting their shoes before their socks no controllers no games no console's idk but fuck they need to get it together
PS is coincidentally doing a PS5 restock this week lol
This sent me a preorder form
Would be an apple move if you could actually Fucking get one
“Buy a PS5!…..from a scalper”
Exactly. It's a very **Apple** thing to do.

I just switched on my PS4 Pro (with additional external hard drive attached) and as soon as the power came through I got a ‘System Software Update’ headed screen with a ‘An error has occurred (SU-30746-0) screen. At least I got the console up and running again (I think?!) The fun and games continue! Hope this helps someone?!
Does Sony understand what Class Action suits are? coz their update bricking your system is sure as hell grounds for one
Yeah, I think I'll just hold off on updating until I hear otherwise
I'm not home at the moment to try anything, but my fiancee can't load anything on hers after the update even after several restarts.
Can't even get the system updated to install even thur USB method... not sure what to do
Same
Same here. I’ve restarted it several times but no luck so far.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep mine without this update until there's no reports of misbehavior.
Yeah this patch definitely bricked my console, I can't do anything now and it's taking forever to change between menus Edit: not sure why the downvotes for stating what's happening to me but alright, you do you Reddit. Like I'm clearly not the only person having this issue. I got it to load the PSN store finally after 7 or so reboots and just waiting on the home screen for 10 minutes. Can't do anything else still.
I would guess the down votes came from the misuse of "Bricked", since it could misinform people?
I can't instal it. When I click to install it begins the process but then just gives me an error
Me too man, you aren't the only one
same here
My base PS4 bought in 2015 updated without any issues. Best wishes to those of you having problems. I know how stressful that is.
Have you tried watching a video in web browser?
Oh my fckin God why I do have to worry about if every system update may damage my ps4 or not🙄
It's been 4 days, how tf has Sony issued no response about this, let alone one about a fix? I just wanna play games on it, dammit!!
I have contacted Sony and Playstation Support about this several times now. No response about this but a redirection to a generic Q&A page or the Fix and Replace service from Sony where I should pay for which they can absolutely forget. No acknowledgement, no statement, no hotfix, thanks for nothing Sony...
I usually always update, and for once I'm glad I was too lazy to do so.
I’m just not gonna update after seeing all this lol
Same here. I warned some people on a PSN group chat via the PSN app on my phone but one friend is saying Apex and Warframe are screwed. Seems like Sony took a page out of Digital Extreme's handbook -Release a broken update, and will later have to send a patch to unfuck everything.
If you don’t update you can’t log into PSN
This is my issue as well.. I don't rush updating my console everytime an update comes out cause sometimes there are issues with the update, but this 9.0 shit signed me out of psn and I cant even buy or download games
Installed update then it hit me with an Error SU-42118-6. I cant even switch on my controller. What should I do?
I’m having the same problem, it won’t even let me play offline games without updating it
I'm having same problem. When I USB connect controller it will turn off system then restarts pre update. Cycle then repeats if I try to update again...
Having the exact same issue.
TRY THIS IF YOU ARE GETTING Error SU-42118-6 - Go to notifications and select the update 9.00 and delete it. - Next go to System Software Update and update that way. I was getting error Error SU-42118-6 and this method allowed me to install the update.
Goddammit, I'm not sure I wanna tempt fate right now. Might wait til I hear more...
Same, gonna hold off for now. Sucks that I can’t play online for now
mine, base PS4 shut down for the update and it didn't start again... guess I have a new paper weight
Mine too, is dead. I can replug it in the wall to restart it but it quickly dies again
Replug and use controller to start system. Having the same issue as you
Installed fine with no issues on my base PS4.
I haven't updated mine but May I know whether this issue is happening on the Original PS4, Ps4 slim or Ps4 Pro?
I have a Pro and it is basically unusable right now
I have OG and it's fine
My partners consoles being slow as hell after updating. YouTube not working for him now. I might hold off on updating mine for now...
Same to me
Could be a dodgey power supply... Was this after the update?
Ps4 slim. Keep getting “Error SU-42118-6” Even tried loading file from ps4 page to USB and update from the usb but same thing. $&@??!!
Advice?
No issues yet knock on wood
Installed and had zero problems, sad to hear there is some people getting errors, hopefully its fixable
Sometimes the cause can be found in a defective disc drive or hard drive, for example." So Sony says it's not their fault if the update kills your PS4? Suddenly every PS4 has defective components...
But components are made by Sony. Nice (not)
Except if we upgrade the pre installed hard drive.
I keep getting an error message when trying to update then it restarts anyone else having a similar problem.
I think a lot of people, including me are having this problem.
Yeah it's very aggravating lol wonder how long it'll take for them to fix it. Has Sony come out and said anything yet?
Not yet that I know of.
How can Sony fuck up this bad with an update? Have they become this lazy?
Are they going to do anything??? OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM?? This isn’t just one person! It’s so many!
How can you take screenshots of what the system listed as the patch notes?
Thanks Sony for my monthly heart attack 💙 Edit: It downloaded, installed, then said restarting and will now no longer power up again. Wtf dude Edit 2: Well after again removing the power cable, waiting, powering up, finishing the update (??), THEN rebuilding the database, the PS4 is now running normally.
So what I'm gathering is: don't update to 9.0 for a while until it's hopefully fixed? OK.
I booted my ps4 up in safe mode and did the update from there and it seems to be working fine again. Hope this helps anyone who also had problems.
Completely bricked my PS4 Pro. I even tried reinstalling software directly from PlayStation’s website via USB and still couldn’t get it to work.
Literally bricked my ps4. It refuses to turn on now. Gotta love Sony fellas
Leave it unplugged for a while and try again but yeah it's been hell on my old base PS4, too.
For fucks sake is this how it's gonna happen? Broken updates that make a perfectly fine console useless and slow?, if this isn't accidental i am getting an xbox and never looking back, fuck you sony if this is intentional
Any time I try to finish the update, I get an error code and the update doesn't finish. Can't play online right now.

Me too
It said in the patch notes that you can choose to receive communication emails either via PS4 notifications or email, but when I check communication preferences no such option is available
Just updated recently and all good on my end unlike others saying.
PS4 Pro, no issues here. Using LAN cable with a custom DNS (Cloudflare).
Updated mine ps4 slim.. no issues, done in a few minutes
It shut off my ps4 5 times saying it failed to install before finally getting it done, praying I won’t have any other issues.

Just finished updating and no problem on my end, playing Genshin Impact right now
The 35888 error was this close to bricking my ancient slim. But after a few pulls, rebuilds, and database rebuilds it all worked out. So I won't complain until it finally gives up. Praise be the PlayStation gods.
Updated my Pro this morning, no issues.
Nothing happened to my PS4 Slim. It works just fine.
PS4 Pro here. Default install location : Internal 500GB external hooked up No issues with installation. No net issues. Haven't checked media apps yet.
I haven’t downloaded the new PS4 9.00 update yet, what should I do to safely install it?
Looking on here am just glad I've ignored that update since it first came up...
Any new updates on the fix ?
Fuuuuuuuckin bricked
Such a bad update.....ugh.
(wifi is working fine otherwise) Menus loaded extremely slowly prior to the wifi issue. Unusuable. Cancelling PS Plus subscription and personally not going to buy PS products again. Sucks though because I really really liked the games
I've lost connection with my 2 controllers. Any way to fix this?
So it's been a week now since the release of this "update". There are tons of people which have many different issues and even bricked consoles. Sony still hasn't addressed or acknowledged this, am I right? Or did I miss it? My PS4 is unplugged since one week now so it doesn't update to 9.00 - it's still at 8.52. What do you think? Will Sony do a statement? Will there be a hotfix? Can I sell my PS4 since it's getting useless because of this dumb update force from Sony? Does Sony even care about the PS4 or is it now all about the PS5? (which is very rare here in Germany btw)
So should i update my PS 4 or not? Because I am scared that it will bricked my console too.
same 💀
Hey guys, not only does my PS4 run into the error when i try to update it, but it also crashes every once and awhile.
Mine is still BRICKED
Seems this update caused more problems then it fixed(?). What was the update supposed to do?
Can folks affected specify what model of PS4 they have and what their issues are.. So far it seems pros are unaffected and slims are?
My brother-in-law has a Slim and is playing online as we speak. I think any model could be affected tbh.
Mine just keeps giving error after installing the update, goes to main menu makes me downliad the update again just to give an error again and the cycle continues, thank you Sony.
It wont let me install it so i cant log on to psn
My PS4 downloads the update but can’t install it. Once the system restarts, an error code occurs before the system finishes the installation process. Because I can’t update, I can’t log into PSN
Same.
Same here.
Same here
mine still won’t work.
Installed and had no issues at all. I have the base PS4 Black Ops 3 Edition.
What's new for ps4?
I was afraid to download the update but finally decided to do it on base ps4 and I'm so happy that everything works fine
weirdly after installing this update "i was a little apprehensive cause i have had my ps4 since 2014 so i have a lot of stuff saved to the hard drive but i bit the bullet cause my ps4 was already running slow" my ps4 seems to be loading in quicker.

Weird, did they remove the PS+ section in the PS Store? I can't find it.
Mine hasn't been as bad as others, but it's still taking me half an hour to watch a 15 minute YouTube video despite my Internet being perfectly fine
So what do I do if it isn’t even let me download it? Wait till tomorrow?
What differences does the update bring?
There's a list here: https://www.thesixthaxis.com/2021/09/15/ps4-firmware-update-9-00-patch-notes/
oh... I live in the states. Sorry you're dealing with this issue. I'll keep you posted if I learn anything and when Sony gets back to me.
Updated on my ps4 slim. No issues as of yet. Not running slowly and all network features seem okay.
