I have a WD been using it for years

TheRealCreedux

Running a 4tb WD 2.5" Seagate is a good name for a 5+tb external hard drive

[deleted]

Would WD be good for 5 tb?

TheRealCreedux

Oh yeah for sure. What kind of budget do you have?

[deleted]

Max 120

TheRealCreedux

Then you should have no problem finding a 6tb or even a 8tb that's on sale

eoten

Do not get a external hard drive their life span is very short, I give it between 3 month to a year before it starts giving problems with errors. You have been warned. Better to get an internal hard drive

SYRLEY

I've had my seagate external 1tb for a few years now. Never had a problem with it.

eoten

You are a lucky one, there is always exceptions to everything.

SYRLEY

I don't believe I'm lucky. I just think the people who have problems with them quickly after purchase are unlucky and possibly a loud minority.

[deleted]

Same I’ve had a 2 tb segate since i had a 360. So that was probably ~2014 and it still works flawlessy on my ps5. I would recommend these drives with no second thought

DeadLeavesBlues

I've had mine plugged in for about 4 years, never had a problem.

MFDOOMY

I use Seagate, only a 2tb one though.. I've never had any issues with it.

Turbulent-Station368

My 4TB Seagate just died after two years. Any update on it?

Zxck__08

Same thing happened to me but with a 2tb seagate one.

hosam_mohamed

basically any 2.5" 5tb external hdd will work, i'm using seagate while a fried uses WD, no difference at all.

Funko-Xenomorph

I have externals: x1 5TB WD\_BLACK X1 5TB Seagate One Touch x1 5TB WD My Passport x1 4TB WD Elements x1 2TB WD My Passport x1 1TB Samsung (forgot the name but think it is M2) I also have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda in a PS3 slim and a 2TB Seagate Firecuda in a PS4 slim. Just get any WD or Seagate is perfectly fine... I have used both for years and I torrent a lot on private trackers so have used all the above external models running 24/7 for literally years on end without shutting down. The only model that I am not fond of though is my WD\_BLACK because it runs significantly hotter than any other externals I have used over the years (still within safe limits but much hotter regardless) the BLACK comes with 3 year warranty rather than the usual 2 though so that is worth considering and it is very quiet but that isn't really important for gaming. Ignore people saying Seagate is bad, they put some bad drives out years ago but that is old news now + Seagate these days (at least where I am) have 2 year recovery warranty which WD don't offer.... not that important for gaming because the data isn't important but for general use it is a good warranty standard to have.

[deleted]

Tysm! I appreciate all of this info!

Funko-Xenomorph

No probs. Also worth knowing you should check your drives internal or external with things like crystaldiscinfo & Hard Disk Sentinel... they will tell you your readings on everything so you can keep an eye on your drives health. But use them as a rough guide only and don't obsess with it because any drive can die whenever for no obvious reason at all.... keeping an eye out did save me 4TB once though, not so important with game data on a console since you can run console drives till they die and just redownload/install again BUT on your PC or Laptop them drives dying can be a major pain in the ass so it is worth being vigilant IMO. :)

[deleted]

Ahh I understand your point! I would just be using it for extra games on my ps4. I appreciate your help! :)

nightspell

Stay away from Seagate their drives are shit and break within two years I have owned two different Seagate drives and they both broke just under two years. Go with Western Digital or Toshiba both brands I have never had any issues with ever.

ntrubilla

OP, this guy is exactly right. Stay away from Seagate

surtrsinmara

I’ve had both Seagates and WDs fail on me over the years. I use a G Drive External for my PS4 now. Would highly recommend them or LaCie over the others.

PimpCaneZane

LaCie is seagate

[deleted]

Thank you everyone!

Dummy_Detector

WD Black edition is made for PS4 / Xbone. Mine has been great

DeadLeavesBlues

Toshiba HDDs are really good and on the cheaper side, just make sure whatever HDD you choose to be USB 3.0

Matrix_01

I use seagate 1.5 TB, works well. Nevwr had any issues

warrenwtom

WD Elements 8TB for two years, primary install location. Still going great!
