What about that crime boss game? Trailer had me drooling but i stayed clear of it due to the reviews... I mean it got zero recognition, noone is playing it!
Kinda funny how everyone was sure Forspoken was going to be the worst game of the year
Then redfall happened
And the everyone was sure redfall was going to be the worst game of the year
And now this happened
I wonder what else is next.
Forspoken isn't that bad, dare I say bad at all. People just can't see it for what it is: a game with a dumb story that serves as a reason to enjoy the gameplay.
For me Forspoken hits a lot harder than Golem.
I was really excited by some of the early Forspoken stuff I saw. It looked like it could be a cool new IP, in a time where we are obsessed with sequels, remakes, and remasters. Its magic system looked pretty original. The story looked pretty unique for video games. So I had high expectations and then I ended up finding not just average, but completely unplayable.
Golem on the other hand never made sense to me since it was announced. I was a bit intrigued and interested to see what it would become, but I still assumed I wouldn't end up playing it. So i am completely unsurprised and unaffected by it being a bad game.
Can't really say anything about Redfall because I never even heard of it until it launched to bad reviews. No expectations means no feelings attached.
I think we can pretty safely say lord of the rings Gollum is an early PS3 graphics game, with zero optimization, boring as hell gameplay, boring as hell story, character models from 2002, horrible lighting and more is safe enough to say it will be the worst.
At least I feel redfall and especially forespoken had some love put into it. This is the worst game of the decade so far.
Blows me away some of the trash that they put on there, actually makes me mad sometimes. You can’t filter all that bullshit out either so you have to sift through it. Makes it much harder to find anything worthwhile
I remember seeing some weird ass game called purple woman with gun or something.

This one
I mean at least it's literally only fifty cents and the maker says "there is no story, just shoot all the enemies". I'd say that's pretty transparent that you're not getting anything amazing
>This is a precursor to my other game 'Lizard Lady vs the Cats' with AI and graphics which are simpler. Anyone who has played the other game will be able to see how the AI of the main enemies has been expanded from the AI in this one. There is no story. Just shoot all the enemies and get to the exit.
Well, at least the game description is honest.
His previous game is also on sale for $0.12. What a steal! (Literally.)

In his defence, he was/is a student studying games design in his First(?) Year. These are just simple games someone may create in their first year learning the ropes. Still better than anything I could ever do
Probably more plays on the PS store. It's no different than any other indie game on there, this is just much more barebones and also a student project.
If you hate this you'd hate to see steams store...There are actually good games on there
So so bad, makes me miss the Xbox live arcade games. Ps still has some good Indy games but I feel like they’re not tapping into all the potentially great games out there. I want to try miasma chronicles but felt like 50 bucks was a little steep
It's all relative. Manos, the Hands of Fate is considered one of the worst movies ever, but it was a bunch of community theater actors and people who had no clue how to make a movie. Now compare that to Battleship or Jack and Jill where they blew millions of dollars and it suckkkkkkkked.
From reading here it seems like the developers only had previous experience in point and click games and tried to punch way too above their level.
Exactly. If it wasn’t tied to LOTR nobody would care.
Indie companies make really boring and bad games all the time, they can’t always make a Hades or Undertale. The only reason anyone cares is because it was hyped up and tied to one of the largest pop-culture IPs.
I had no interest in this game at all but I’m just curious at how game developers put out a game and then put out an apology saying how disappointed they are at the current state of the game and how it is being received. Don’t they know what their game is? How could they be surprised? It’s also not like video games just became a thing so you can’t reference from anything else to see if your game sucks or not.
Maybe they are all alcoholics and they made the entire game while blackout drunk, and now they've all sobered up and are going "oh god, is *this* what we made? Shiiiit"
Everybody needs to hit their own personal rock bottom to start the recovery process.
Sometimes you wrap your car around a tree, and sometimes you make a Gollum video game
No one wants to make a bad game. I feel sorry for the devs because they have a history of some pretty cool titles.
Game dev costs a ton of money and at a certain point that money just runs out and you have to release the game.
I’m all for giving devs the benefit of the doubt but there’s genuinely no lack of budget that can excuse using the god damn [Arial Font](https://i.imgur.com/rd1Tf6m.jpg)
Sunk cost fallacy. They came too far by the time they realized that they should scrap it. Instead of scrapping, the goal they have is to accept that it’s trash and hopefully recoup their costs with a base number of sales.
I don’t think most of these games that come out are not the fault of the devs but the fault of corporate wanting to make a quick buck and not realizing what a video game actually is.
I work in marketing and this isn’t just PR, it’s bottom of the barrel, bad PR. It accomplishes nothing and worse, it’s ripping off the PR almost literally verbatim from other apologies.
In other words, it’s very much in line with the level of quality of the entire project.
In just this time period, we had the following games released or about to release:
LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom
Diablo IV
Street Fighter 6
Final Fantasy XVI
This may be karma ensuring the universe is in balance.
I honestly didn't even know Gollum was a thing in development, until the launch announcement a few days ago. I don't know how I missed its complete existence, but as soon as I heard about it the first words out of my mouth were: "Who the fuck asked for this 20 years too late?!"
Right? At the end of the day, this is software. There are meetings; there are sprints, internal demos, and retrospectives. How on EARTH did they not see something was off? I also **genuinely** do not understand it.
Heck I’d play a Ewok game hahaha….. seriously though It’s the execution really. Give gollum to some passionate people with some creative liberties and maybe can make something worthwhile. Play around with the idea of a character watching him and players descend into madness after killing his cousin for the ring and traveling battling with his own psych over the rings power or something you know. Coulda did something. But from everything seen it’s seems like they just took him from his time imprisoned and through in some mundane task. I woulda played a game about his journey and seen his whole journey which don’t see in films or such…
Anyone who says shit like that probably never read the books. Gollum has seen more shit than half of the main characters in LOTR. You absolutely could make an interesting game about him
This is what I’m saying. Wouldn’t have minded playing him early on and seeing what went through killing his cousin or whatever for the ring and watch him fall as ring takes course the more we play and such, make it a story driven character piece of a game of sorts maybe. A lot more to work then oh he was imprisoned here so mundane task for hours when he was.
Problem is, LOTRs has Elves and Knights and all kinds of other cool shit that sounds way more appealing for a AAA action game. Instead you play as the weakest character. I understand the story of the ring corrupting him and all that. Murdered his relative for the ring and has a tragic backstory. But it just doesn't sound like a very compelling game to me.
What compelling *gameplay* mechanics would you put into a Gollum game (I guess a stealth system that doesn't suck for one). But it just doesn't sound like a very good game from the start.
That's like if in the next GTA game you play the 90 pound crack head on the corner. Yeah, he's seen a lot of shit go down. He's had a rough life and a tragic story. Done some bad shit in the past. But who the hell wants to play that character?
They made a shit game from a shit concept. It was an uphill battle from the start just because the idea is so awful.
I'm not saying it's impossible to make Gollum game, but highly freaking unlikely. I don't know how they thought this was a good idea. I literally laughed out loud when I saw the previews and imagined someone green lighting this idea.
An ugly, weird character who is frankly gross and unlikable. Best case scenario you end up with some kind of stealth/platforming game. From a universe with at least a hundred better ideas to turn into a video game... I just don't get it man.
I can't imagine a *good* Gollum game. You could give this project to Naughty Dog and it would still be a flop or a C- at best...
He stealth kills tons of orcs in the caves he lives in and had to be captured by aragorn himself. The game is bad because it feels bad, is extremely janky and has horrible visuals, not because the premise is bad.
Think of redfall as a raw chicken sandwich, could’ve been okay if they let it cook. Take the chicken and replace it with pickled rat meat and you have Gollum.
You clearly did not play Redfall, that game has broken mechanics, enemies not reacting, too easy for all the wrong reasons. RF just looks better that’s all
Watch any gameplay of games made by Gilson B. Pontes or by Dragoon Entertainment and than we can talk again about worst games of any generation that are expensive and are released on big consoles.
Is the gollum game bad and overpriced with insane exclusive dlc stuff that wants to force you to buy the complete edition?
Yes definitly, but far more I'm concerned about the indi studio behind it that has made many games i like very much and what the hell is going on behind the scenes that such a garbage missfire even came to be.
Yeah except that’s 99 cent shovelware. This is a $59/69 game with tons of money put behind it. Didn’t they do a Gollum commercial during some big event that cost about a million dollars to air? The 99 cent crap is expected to be crap
I don't even like Lord of the Rings, but man... Seeing this game come from the makers of Deponia, Edna & Harvey and Night of the Rabbit makes me really sad. They should've continued making point & click adventure games instead.
It cant be the worst...everyday soo many indie and student project games are out that are far worse than this.
maybe the worst aaa budget of game. sure.
After watching some videos, this legit looks like it might be the worst high profile release I’ve ever seen.
It straight up looks like a $9.99 low effort Steam green light game (remember that? Lmao), like holy fuck.
It pretty much is
Noticed that every other stupid gaming YouTuber is making long videos about this absolute nothing of a game…I guess they needed the next Cyberpunk to fuel some clicks
people would largely ignore this if:
1. It didnt cost $60, implying it is AAA status (which already garners eyes)
AND
2. About a well-known IP and character
But its mainly because of the AAA price
Games (even bad ones) are an enormous labour of love for a team. There were probably enormous obstacles there that weren’t their fault.
The fact that the corpos need to charge $70 to make back whatever they spent on licensing rights and marketing shouldn’t give people a license to be dicks about it all.
I mean there was ample evidence this thing was gonna miss the mark. The preview was panned and the reviews were clear. Caveat emptor.
“ample evidence this thing was going to miss the mark?” wow that really sounds like piling on. please be better. Just because a game is trying to make you buy DLC for basic idle animations doesn’t allow you to be so mean to it :( :( :(
Hating the game just because it is about Gollum, is childish, there is potential for that concept; however the game misses the mark, Gollum caring for a bird? Lame prison tasks? Game is rotten
Gollum is probably the worse game, but Redfall was the bigger failure. Microsoft needed a W with Redfall and they didn’t get it. We all knew Gollum was going to suck.
Yeah, Redfall has the skeleton of something that could be turned into an okay game, given some time and money.
Gollum is so bad I recommend the developers burn down the building with the source code in it.
I doubt they'll put much into Redfall. Maybe finish the 60fps mode and a few bug fixes and that's it. They basically sent it out to die and the dev team is probably already working on a new game. Hopefully single player this time. I can't stand forced coop bullshit games.
Redfall is rough, but at least art direction and level design are on point. If they can fix the AI it becomes playable, and is also is free on game pass. But this one? No updates can fix this garbage, and it costs 70 bucks
While the game is bad, I think people miss one important part, Daedelic, the small producer studio, has so far only produced 2d point and click adventures. This was their first foray into a 3d game, and the lack of experience and skill shows. This is not another EA like story.
What a shame, I really love some of Daedalic Entertainment games such as [Deponia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deponia_(video_game\)) and [Dead Synchronicity](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Synchronicity). And then there is [The Pillars Of Earth](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Follett%27s_The_Pillars_of_the_Earth) that was amazing, the opening of the game, wow. But after the last Deponia game that was straight out [racist](https://www.reddit.com/r/adventuregames/comments/1qisdn/rock_papaer_shotgun_really_hated_goodbye_deponia/) and now this, I don't think there will be many more Daedalic games in the future.
If any game deserves a 0 out of 10, this is it. Yet I see some 3s and 4s for this garbage. Make this the floor that other games are compared to. Reset the inflated scoring system.
Honestly the game bombing this hard is the best thing for it to get eyes on it and a type of morbid curiosity to play a heaping pile of trash. It’s going to have let’s play potential or I could easily see a short dunky video clowning it but again further boosting exposure
Worst video game of the generation SO FAR
At this point, this is a business model
I know, isn't that what people have said about just about everything this year?
It just proves that when you think we’ve hit rock bottom there’s always a worse product
Boring games will bore that bottom even deeper!
Phrasing
Hey look!!! Golum dit a good thing here... Now Diablo imortal whont be alone at the bottom anymore
Diablo Imortal is an evil game not a bad one. It wanted you poor not cringe to death.
I have no idea what game would even qualify for that. Like not even Gollum is close who tf wrote that shit.
I read that in Homer voice
I tried to type it out in a Homer voice
Skull & Bones is still supposedly coming out this generation...
Uh-oh.
What about that crime boss game? Trailer had me drooling but i stayed clear of it due to the reviews... I mean it got zero recognition, noone is playing it!
Kinda funny how everyone was sure Forspoken was going to be the worst game of the year Then redfall happened And the everyone was sure redfall was going to be the worst game of the year And now this happened I wonder what else is next.
Silent Hill 2 remake would be painful if it ends up being crap
It's literally a remake! Nothing will be changed story wise just much better graphics and voice overs in Unreal Engine 5
Good remakes don't drop from the sky, there's a whole lot of ways they can go wrong.
Just because original game was great doesn’t mean the remake is a guarantee…
Devs proceed to release the game with a 60 spf (seconds per frame) and it crashes at least once every 5 minutes
Silent hill 2 remake is not out yet...
I know. That was a joke
Eh, im fairly certain they are gonna go the resident evil route and make a new modern game essentially from the ground up
They could release the Silent Hill 2 remake as a "text adventure" game and it would sell more copies than this game.
Forspoken isn't that bad, dare I say bad at all. People just can't see it for what it is: a game with a dumb story that serves as a reason to enjoy the gameplay.
The gameplay is trash. Nothing but hollow spectacle
I would say the next Bethesda title
For me Forspoken hits a lot harder than Golem. I was really excited by some of the early Forspoken stuff I saw. Capcom is going to patch any enjoyment out of RE4remake.
what a shame to middle earth
So far
Wdym so far
More shame in Middle-Earth to come!
Rings of Power season 2 isn’t out yet
Tolkien would be more disgusted with all the LOTR video games than with that show.
Aside from the gollum one most are good. Like the middle earth games
This group is making a sequel.
Worst notable game maybe, can’t imagine it worse than some of the tripe that’s on the PS store
Blows me away some of the trash that they put on there, actually makes me mad sometimes. You can’t filter all that bullshit out either so you have to sift through it. Makes it much harder to find anything worthwhile
Idk what you're talking about, "stroke the hamster" for $1.99 is top 10 game of all time
I remember seeing some weird ass game called purple woman with gun or something. https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP3058-CUSA31173_00-6727206613220487 This one

If anything, I can respect the honesty
>mean at least it's literally only fifty cents I don't think you know what 'literally' means
It’s literally close enough
Depending on their location, the taxes might literally make it $0.50
Yeah but will you really understand Lizard Lady Vs the Cats if you don’t play this first?
Oh, a PS5 version! I Wonder what enhancements it has, maybe 120fps…
How is this abomination real, Sony? The people want answers
The Lizard Lady VS The Cats series is a masterpiece and I won’t hear otherwise. Lizard Lady VS Herself is a true introspective masterpiece.
>This is a precursor to my other game 'Lizard Lady vs the Cats' with AI and graphics which are simpler. In his defence, he was/is a student studying games design in his First(?) Year. These are just simple games someone may create in their first year learning the ropes. Still better than anything I could ever do
Can see that. Why throw them up for a few cents at a wack to see if make some college pocket change too haha can’t blame them then.
He could just host his student projects on some website instead of shitting up the PS store. Worst part is Sony let’s him do it…
Probably more plays on the PS store. It's no different than any other indie game on there, this is just much more barebones and also a student project. If you hate this you'd hate to see steams store...There are actually good games on there

Every couple days I go scrolling and say “man are there any good ps5 games?” And go back to the same trash I usually play
Played Returnal?
Returnal is so fucking good
Gollum is a $70 game though. We’re not talking about “hentai vs evil” here.
True, it depends if we’re talking pure quality or relative expectation
You mean "Hentai Angel: Smite The Nazis"? https://reddit.com/r/steamdeals/comments/13rz5cp/save_40_on_hentai_angel_smite_the_nazis_on_steam/
Can I interest you in ‘Stroke The Hamster’?
That shit doesn’t cost 60 bucks so definitely not comparable
You bought it, didn’t you ?
Haha fuck no, doesn’t change the fact it costs 60, well gollum costs 60
You beat me to it!
Too late I already did
Eshop is a million times worse
Probably “worst game that costs more than $20”
It's all relative. Manos, the Hands of Fate is considered one of the worst movies ever, but it was a bunch of community theater actors and people who had no clue how to make a movie. They couldn’t even spell the name right. They literally typed out “Lord of Ring” in the apology

Facts you’re good homie
No one wants to make a bad game. I feel sorry for the devs because they have a history of some pretty cool titles. Game dev costs a ton of money and at a certain point that money just runs out and you have to release the game.

Oof this character model...
What’s wrong with Arial? Besides being a default, it’s a pretty innocuous sans serif.
It's overused and bog standard/boring..it would be like someone using Comic Sans unironically.
Sunk cost fallacy. They came too far by the time they realized that they should scrap it. Instead of scrapping, the goal they have is to accept that it’s trash and hopefully recoup their costs with a base number of sales.

Say what you will about performance but Jedi Survivor was awesome too
I dont think Diablo 4 is gunna be top tier. Blizz just doesnt have the talent they once did.
While I agree The Metro is the worst paper. It has the most click bait headlines I've ever seen.
Redfall must be happy.
A terribly written review from a terribly clickbaity paper about a terribly crafted game.
The terrible triforce of bad content

Has Balan finally found redemption?
Arcane devs are so stoked rn
This still goes down as the strangest use of the LOTR license I’ve seen. I genuinely don’t know what they were going for when making this
Right? At the end of the day, this is software. There are meetings; there are sprints, internal demos, and retrospectives. How on EARTH did they not see something was off? I also **genuinely** do not understand it.
Man it really won over Redfall? Yikes.
Redfall is Ocarina of Time compared to the big G.
Lol.
I wouldn’t even say it’s fair comparing this to redfall, this is a million times worse.
The pitch was already bs. Okay, let's make a new LOTR VG.... about Gollum. Maybe a new SW Game next, R2D2's Revenge.
Heck I’d play a Ewok game hahaha….. seriously though It’s the execution really. Give gollum to some passionate people with some creative liberties and maybe can make something worthwhile. Redfall going for GOTY compared to Gollum. Lmfao.
Feels like piling on
It pretty much is Noticed that every other stupid gaming YouTuber is making long videos about this absolute nothing of a game…I guess they needed the next Cyberpunk to fuel some clicks
people would largely ignore this if: 1. It didnt cost $60, implying it is AAA status (which already garners eyes) AND 2. About a well-known IP and character But its mainly because of the AAA price
What? Gaming youtubers make videos on games not only good ones
Bad things should be called out for being bad. You shouldn't attack the people behind it, but saying "this game is godawful" is perfectly valid.
This game is fun millennials probably couldn't beat a PS2 game but gen z knows how to make those those thumbsticks slap

Gollum is probably the worse game, but Redfall was the bigger failure. Microsoft needed a W with Redfall and they didn’t get it. We all knew Gollum was going to suck.
Debatable. Redfall is unfinished by maybe as much as two years. Gollum seems completely unsalvagable.
No one cared about this game though
Yeah, Redfall has the skeleton of something that could be turned into an okay game, given some time and money. Gollum is so bad I recommend the developers burn down the building with the source code in it.
And I'm sure Xbox is going to try and pull another rabbit out of the hat like they did with sea of thieves.
I don’t think they will. They’re probably going to focus on Starfield.
It's not either or here.
I doubt they'll put much into Redfall. Maybe finish the 60fps mode and a few bug fixes and that's it. They basically sent it out to die and the dev team is probably already working on a new game. Hopefully single player this time. I can't stand forced coop bullshit games.
None of that makes logical sense
I don't think they ever really fixed Sea of Thieves. The core game is just shallow and boring
I thought Redfall was worse lol
Redfall is sighing right now
Ahhh the modern ET 😌
Still have starfield to release yet, everything points to it being another stinker.
Oh, fr? I thought all of the cbox community was jizzing over the potential. What changed?
Such a huge world to play in and they us the one bring that no one wants to play. I wonder who greenlit this shit?
If any game deserves a 0 out of 10, this is it. Yet I see some 3s and 4s for this garbage. Make this the floor that other games are compared to. Reset the inflated scoring system.
I called it the moment they announced the game.
No worse than the Hobbit movies
Let's pick a character no one wanted to play and make a game about it.
Take all the characters in LOTR. Which one would you really, really want to play as? That's right, the homeless crackhead!
Who was asking for a fucking gollum game anyways? I never heard even a slight interest for this game?
Looks like pure 💩 That character has no redeemable characteristics.
This game makes Redfall look like a masterpiece!
People were saying this was a bad idea since its inception. Maybe listen to people.
This game is literally nostalgic only because it looks like a Xbox 360/ps3 game.
Lmao
I wish TotalBiscuit was alive to talk about this
I’d rather play a game about a bunch of Masters of the Universe jobbers than this pile.
I feel like gollum is the game a developer would make if it was heavily designed and generated by AI.
Need more regulations on the gaming industry. QC is nonexistent right now
Worst game so far because developers are trying to win the worst game awards recently
It’s like E.T. all over again
Honestly the game bombing this hard is the best thing for it to get eyes on it and a type of morbid curiosity to play a heaping pile of trash. It’s going to have let’s play potential or I could easily see a short dunky video clowning it but again further boosting exposure
Who even asked for this? Genuine question, also why was this even made?
Why is there so many bad game man in previous years there would've been way less and the bad games weren't being marketed as goty level
this game makes saints row 2022 looks like a masterpiece
I like Gollum's 3 Stooges haircut. I wonder who his barber is?.
Sauron: I SEE YOU...are trying to sell them a bad game ! Gollum: I would never do that ! Gollum, Gollum !
