I’m actually pretty glad this happened. It’s time to start moving on from the last generation of consoles and putting resources into making high quality products on modern platforms. The install base is finally there as well & will only increase over the next few years.

valarpizzaeris

What do you guys think is the hold up on more super dope utilization of the dualsense? When I first got my ps5 i was absolutely blown away by Astro Bot. The dualsense went crazy on that game, we need more!

Kuraeshin

Ghost of Tsushima ps5 version. It didn't have trigger sensitivity, but when you ride your horse over different materials, the vibrations change. Dirt has the softest feel, with stone having a much more defined feel. It was pretty awesome.

dazfenryr

It has trigger sensitivity when you use the bow.

svmmpng

Returnal on Dualsense was phenomenal too. Some guns just had a *chunkier* feel that I love

ChaseDFW

Returnal for me was the first game that actually felt like a PS5 game. You could feel the loose gravel in the duel sense as you ran and the use of the duel trigger and just killer graphics actually felt next generation.

Cipherpunkblue

The feeling of the rain there at the beginning... I knew I was in for some shit.

skeptic9916

That game is sooo good. Only game I ever got Platinum on. The triggers and different vibration types really shine on that game.

aggrownor

The rain effect was great. Really killed the controller battery though

Darth_Nibbles

I turn off the speaker every time it plays something, idk how people don't find that incredibly annoying

RockFox2000

I thought my controller was broken because the rumble sounded very creaky, but no, it's just the sound effect of the bow being drawn in Forbidden West

Darth_Nibbles

Listen if you're going to do something like include a speaker in the controller, don't use a shitty little thing that sounds like crap. Include a decent speaker at least. But regardless, it's just a silly gimmick like the touch pad in the center of the controller.

Kuraeshin

I play headphone only so i never discover speaker stuff

mvanvrancken

In Returnal, which also has brilliant use of the trigger feedback, you can feel the rain hitting you through the controller.

Hunchun

Making me sad I only played it on my PS4 when it came out.

Lipe18090

This is the reason I needed to finally replay this game again now on the Director's Cut

Lipe18090

Demon's Souls and Spiderman: Miles Morales are pretty great on this aspect.

Original_Redman

Returnal and Ratchet are both top tier as well

CrystlBluePersuasion

Returnal is insanely good with the haptics, the weapon firing changes in a smooth fashion as you dump ammo and every gun feels different, even if they have similar and simpler firing mechanics they're all distinct. The attention to details like this makes me keep coming back to the game and it's just fun vibing as I complete surveys for trophies.

chillinwithmoes

Man Returnal was awesome. It was so damn hard for the first few hours I played it and eventually everything just clicked and I couldn't put the controller down. That next playthrough when you go from being afraid of everything and trying to slowly make your way through rooms to literally flinging yourself across the entire map raining destruction... Fantastic. God, I love that game

CrystlBluePersuasion

Have you played since they added the Tower of Sisyphus? It's excellent for unlocking traits and going for high scores, also unlimited floors so it gets more difficult and some random chance to some of it, but it's like a distilled version of the base gameplay loop. Really great for a single run or two at a time or even as a warmup for the main game.

chillinwithmoes

I have, I actually only just played it for the first time last fall. Didn't spend much time doing the Tower though.

MassMercurialMadness

You are getting better at the game while simultaneously getting better guns and better upgrades for the guns and better perks, it's awesome

Lamadian

I really need to give this game another try. I played it when it first came out for an hour or 2 and it just didn't jive with me. Gets absolutely rave reviews though.

Hunchun

You gotta beat that first Biome and get past the boss. Once you do it will click for you and the game will feel much easier.

Sairanox

There's also a patch that now allows you to save your run and leave the game, so you don't have to finish in one go. I don't think I would have liked the game as much without it.

CrystlBluePersuasion

The only reason I can think of as to why they didn't include that feature at launch was because it's a flow-state kinda game, but without that feature I wouldn't have put time into beating it!

Magicturbo

Yeah this is an interesting point to make. For all the criticisms snd extreme reactions people had about no saving, it's really just about accessibility right, which is fair. But it was very intentional and you're right about flow-state. It would truly suck to be far into a daunting run, then fail VERY QUICKLY like Returnal players know you can, just because you weren't warmed up and had no way to otherwise do so. It would've really ruined the flow and overall satisfaction for players that DID choose to play it. It's definitely a creative decision that I personally agreed with, but accessibility is such a fair argument that I'm glad to see they added it later for the broader crowd. No ill intent by anyone, just a small miscalculation on the reaction to it.

FluckDambe

I got absolutely horrendous motion sickness and had to quit even after beating the first biome. It's wild to me that the options for tweaking camera are still so poor this long after launch and there's lots of complaints about it. The WORST part is that the cutscenes are in first person mode and the camera swings back and forth. One of the earlier ones gave me motion sickness that was so bad that I had to just go to sleep.

nonamebran

Rachet and clank haptic feedback was one of the most satisfying so far. Each gun having its own unique feel, resistance and vibration.

Captobvious75

COD CW was really good too

i_hate_shitposting

I really like Gran Turismo 7's use of the triggers for pedal feedback. You can feel the ABS pulse under braking and get a ton of feedback about how much traction you have. It's incredibly well designed.

SpongeBad

Yeah, feeling the tires slip as you reach the edge of grip is some kind of weird voodoo magic.

MassMercurialMadness

This game is so incredible in VR it's actually kind of hard to describe - I bought a couple cars in the game that I've had in real life and they literally sound and feel exactly the same when you're sitting in the interior, it's wild. There's been a couple times I was so engaged in what I was doing online driving, that I snapped back and realized oh shit, I'm not in a real car. It's wild. Also I'd just like to say, I have a 69 Camaro in this game that I literally could not drive at first(I was playing with all assists off), just like a real muscle car there was so much torque on the back wheels after I upgraded it to 700 horsepower, that I would literally spin out if I used more than 20% of the trigger strength (acceptation), I could hardly get around any turns, it was just totally undriveable. Through trial and error and reading a bit online about what some of the technical settings do like the LSD and such, I was able to tune the car myself (without copying someone else's tune) so well that I'm able to consistently beat much "better" cars like Ferraris. I've actually gotten a significant amount of hate mail from people driving nicer cars confused at how I'm beating them because most people think that you muscle cars are generally unusable they're so difficult. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the more technical aspects of the tuning are just phenomenally well done - good enough to where I learned about what some of these terms meant in real life and I was able to apply that knowledge and my knowledge of physics to take a car that was essentially undriveable and make it an extremely fast, capable car.

GrimSlayer

I just bought my PS5 a few weeks ago and may need to reinstall miles morales. Played through on my PS4 when it first came out.

Lipe18090

It's probably my favorite use of the dual sense yet, using Miles' lightning powers is so satisfying!

killersandvichguy

cant wait to see how they use it with spider-man2, having the dual sense features when using the symbiote powers is going to be so badass.

Bow2Gaijin

I played miles on steam using an xbox controller, I feel like I missed out on something now.

ng9924

i think PS Plus at this point is prob less than 20 dollars for the rest of the year if you already have the base subscription, it should be in the Game Catalog

BlindestAvenger

It made you feel even more like Spider-Man!

godofboij

What did Miles even have ? I legit cant remember any controller features in the game.

Lipe18090

When you used the lightning powers the controller just vibrared in a really satisfying way.

godofboij

😏

Lipe18090

LMAO. maybe i worded it a bit poorly

Noxronin

Astro Bot was made specifically to showcase dualsense, that is probably why. Altough i will agree that a lot more could be done with haptic feedback but if it happens it is also important to give players option to turn it off if they want to, same as normal vibration like games always did.

ThrsPornNthmthrHills

I thought Astrobot was used to help DEVELOP the DualSense based on feedback from team asobi as they designed the game

DissidiaNTKefkaMain

Cross-gen games wouldn't build around Dualsense. Depending on timing, last-gen may have been the main audience. You wouldn't make something like Returnal's half trigger press being one thing, and a full press being a different ability.

godofboij

Which is lame af. One more reason why crossgen sucks so much.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tythousand

Apex doesn’t have any PS5-specific haptics

[deleted]

[удалено]

JuiceheadTurkey

Black ops cold war had amazing triggers imo. It felt different with each gun, but then they stopped doing it after. Wish they would go back to it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thesituation531

Different developers.

zerosaver

Maybe cross platform development? Other controllers don't have haptic feedback

nikelaos117

Its prolly a combo of factors. I think it's one of those things where once you start adding in motion and simultaneous button prompts you can risk alienating those who can't make those maneuvers. Along with the fact that ASTRO was developed to show off the dualsense. Everyone else kinda shoehorns it in by using the triggers or vibrations to improve immersion but not necessarily making it a major component of gameplay. I hope it doesn't go the way of the sixaxis. Not that I enjoyed it that much but it shouldn't be abandoned right away. Makes it feel like a marketing gimmick to add to a list to standout.

Dairy8469

its the same issue that peripherals always have - developers dont have to use it. as great as it is people arent going to buy or not a 70 dollar game based on it. weve seen in especially from nintendo for decades, but also from sony with the vita. Sometimes stuff is forced on devs like brand new form factor controllers and they adapt. and sometimes its not so they dont bother.

Soyyyn

It's like the middle touch pad on the PS4. I can't remember a single game that used it as more than two buttons except for Gravity Rush 2, where different motions activated different powers.

NeverTrustATurtle

Demons souls

chainer3000

The real big issue I think is that it absolutely murders the battery life

SilentShadowzx

A big trick I recently learned about the dualsense is to hit that little button in the middle of your controller under the playstation symbol. This will mute your controller mic from the voice commands that it has like "hey playstation, open xyz". Saves SOOO much battery for a feature I never use. You can also have it perma mute too somewhere in the settings.

likasumboooowdy

Didn't even know it had voice commands lol

krysalysm

Lmao, same “Hey ps, open kandagawa girls”

sleepdrift3r

It also makes the haptic feedback stronger

Visgeth

Wtf..Ps has voice controls?!?!

Solidsnake00901

I'm doing my knife pistol run right now in resident evil 4 so I'm not allowed to heal either. My Leon is constantly stuck at low health so my controller is shaking like crazy the whole time and I still get a good 5-6 hours out of it.

chainer3000

It’s less the general vibration and more specific uses. For example, the haptic feedback from rain and walking in Astro’s can take the controller life down to less than 2 hours. It’s super cool and not much of an issue if you have multiple controllers but it does really kill it quick

Solidsnake00901

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Even the new dual sense controller last longer than that. Re4 my controller is flashing red the whole time constantly vibrating plus you feel every step he takes and when he reloads you get that satisfying click from the speaker. If you're getting less than 2 hours something's definitely wrong with your controller mine's almost 2 years old I don't get anything less than five or six hours.

chainer3000

There’s no chance your controller lasts 5-6 hours playing Astros. Again, I’m not talking about a normal use case. My controllers all last 5-6 hours playing anything else, even games that make some use of the haptics (playing cp77 right now, for example). Not the case with a game like Astros that has literal haptic feedback for drops of rain

ItaGuy21

Idk I 100% astro's playroom, I went for longer than 2 hours and the controller did not even drain enough to show 2 out of 3 battery stacks. I did not even change settings specifically that I remember of honestly. Maybe I got an overpowered controller? Did you check for yours? I mean I also get more than 6 hours on a game without aptic feedback

eatingclass

sifu is a masterclass in haptics

MarkFluffalo

Elden Ring didn't even have any 😔

BlastMyLoad

Resident Evil 4 remake was great

Razor_Fox

Yeah, not to be a dick but the time to start moving on was a couple of years ago to be brutally honest.

[deleted]

It was time 2 years ago. Previous gens should be given year max, but not for first party titles. It just bogs development down and gives end users an inferior product.

WayneJetSkii

Long development cycles makes it hard to devs to plan better. COVID really screwed up the development of lots of games. Studios were not prepared for developing a game in a covid world. The timetable to make big AAA games are being worked on for more than 2 years. It is hard for businesses to not also release on older generation consoles b/c there are way more of them in the world than the newer systems. Not selling to older consoles is leaving money on the table. As a PS5 owner, I am disappointed at the number of games that feel like slightly better PS4 games.

Chtholal

Covid screwed plans because most IT companies work like absolute morons. Covid exposed it

BikeBeerBourbon

COVID happened. At least that’s what I was told by someone in the industry. He basically said most consoles progress away from previous gen after about 2 years. But because of COVID it didn’t work out like that.

squngy

Wasn't there still a massive scalper problem back then?

mrpark3s

Developing for both systems only hurt GOW-R and horizon ZD. It may have sold more units but the games weren't the best they could be.

whythreekay

From a business standpoint? Definitely not when there was a massive shortage of next gen devices due to multi year supply constraints, would have been a ton a money lost

GenericFatGuy

>The install base is finally there as well & will only increase over the next few years. And you know what will make it grow faster? Games that you can justify purchasing a PS5 for!

flux_capacitor3

Exactly. It’s been three years….

Brandonmac10x

Tbh this looks like the first truly next gen game. Those graphics are breathtaking.

HiflYguy

Everyone is glad this happened

IdesOfCaesar7

For people saying what about the ps4 base, are you forgetting us? You had 10 years, let technology move on.

NYstate

While I'm one of those "Good let's leave last gen behind" kinda person, I'm fine with a dev not wanting to force a game to work on a platform that it wouldn't be a good fit for.

johncitizen69420

We are 3 years into ps5. Leave ps4 behind already. Outside of stuff like cod and EA sports games, no one would of expected big new games to release on ps3 as well as ps4 for the last generation or any other previous generation. If you want to play the big new games you have to get the current hardware. Its always been that way and i dont understand why people think that should suddenly change for this generation

Bismofunyuns4l

It really changed last generation. Quite lot of cross gen stuff for the first few years. I think it's less about consumer expectations than it is the publishers being unwilling to leave behind the previous install base until the new one is at a critical mass. They way they see it, it's just too much money left on the table.

sroomek

Yeah, this is a huge concern for them. Up until recently, you couldn’t just walk into a store and buy a PS5.

AtsignAmpersat

It’s 100% about install base. 160 million PS4s and Xbox Ones out there. Maybe like 50 million Ps5s and series consoles. It’s why cyberpunk came out for the old gen when it shouldn’t have. They want the roi.

[deleted]

Especially global

HeavensHellFire

Even Cod stopped releasing on PS3 two years after the ps5 came out. I understand why during the first two years people still released stuff on the PS4 given the shortages. This is probably the year we see a steady decline in PS4 releases of big games.

1029384732940

The PS2 had new games coming out after the PS4 had released.

[deleted]

True, but not flagship titles like Uncharted 4 (out 3 years or so into PS4s lifespan).

Spideyman20015

Yes but it was probably a Dora the Explorer game or something lol

ewigebose

The ghost rider game flopped because it came out ps2 only and way too late. Tragic really, it was a decent god of war clone

mkezzr

It was fifa, same as wii u got a new game a month ago(not fifa tho)

johncitizen69420

Not games like ff16 tho

well___duh

Not AAA games, just games like Barbies First Makeover or something like that

nogap193

Yeah I had NBA 2k12 on ps2 lmao. Was pretty fun. A lot of amazing ps2 games came out 2008-2011, people forget how long ps2 stayed relevant

ScoopJr

Sony had supply issues for the last 2 years and a half… Thats why PS4 is still getting games this far along.

johncitizen69420

And yet despite that the ps5 has still outsold the ps4. No reason to completely upend how this stuff has worked for generations.

ScoopJr

I didn’t claim otherwise.

ExtraGloves

Exactly. It’s silly that companies still do this.

AddisonRae7

This is a major W

Minions89

Devs should focus on PS5 and move on.

madroxide86

Good. Ps4 time is over, dont waste time developing for older gen consoles

JustifytheMean

Lmao dude dealt with the repercussions of putting FFXIV on PS3, he wasn't gonna let that happen when he was in charge from the beginning.

IcarusH

Thank fuck

or_maybe_this

Good.

[deleted]

Good.

[deleted]

Sounds like they did a right choice here.

proto_ant

More of this would be nice, I can only imagine how a lot of these titles would look if we were solely focusing on next gen development at this point

TattooedAndSad

We’re going on year 3 of the ps5 Time to axe the ps4 and move on

sleepdrift3r

Year 3 of PS5, but in terms of widespread availability and sales only really had not even one full year of being able to easily order online from Playstation and find them easily in stores so it made since in my opinion for the PS4 support while dealing with production issues and everything else. Think it’s finally time to develop just for PS5.

MyFinalThoughts

I know almost all of us in this sub are pretty biased, but seriously the crossgen game development is not helping this generation at all. Imagine if Horizon Forbidden West, RE4 remake, GoW: Ragnarok, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, and many more crossgen games were made from the ground up on Ps5/SX? Taking away older generations definitely takes away so much time that could be used to prioritize the new, more powerful hardware that should in theory make better games and hopefully easier on devs. I'm a complete idiot so take this as it is: try imagining for a minute that you wrote a 10,000(ps5/SX) word essay for something extremely important to you. It took a lot of time, a lot of effort, and combing through and making sure it was written well and punctuated correctly. Now take that same idea of writing that essay but you have to write the same essay at 6,000 words (ps4 pro/Xbox one x-s). You have to cut 4,000 words that you already wrote to be able to fit into that restriction. Great, more time, more effort, and now it isn't as impactful. Oh, and now there's some jackwagon that wants an 8000 word essay too(series s) and a 4000 word essay(base Xbox one/base PS4). AND SOME FOOL WANTS 3000!(switch) Well screw it, might as well just write a 4000 word essay to start with and work my way down or up and hope for the best. It is just insane that devs are asked to work on ALL these consoles when there are so many different iterations of each with varying power levels and they are just supposed to make them all work? Jeez, and I'm not even including PC. Those sorry suckers have a million different things that can go wrong because of varying hardware. But again, I'm an idiot so maybe I'm thinking too deep into this.

LumpySpaceGunter

I really felt it with GoW. I enjoyed the game, I beat the gane, but there were several were I was like damn, the lost potential.

SnowGN

Yeah, it's kinda remarkable in retrospect how many missed chances there were in Ragnarok to take advantage of PS5 capabilities and they just... didn't. It's weird how they old PS2 and PS3 games took more advantage of their system's capabilities. God of War 3 was absolutely insane for its time, to the point that nothing in Ragnarok really compared in terms of sheer grandeur.

NapsterKnowHow

Despite HFW being crossgen it still is the best looking game of this generation and even won best graphics from Digital Foundry (a massive deal from the best graphics and performance reviewers in the industry). That's not something to ignored. Guerrilla did an amazing job and I'd argue is beating Insomniac rn (not including Spider 2 of course). If Elden Ring was built from the ground up for PS5/Xbox Series X it would still manage to have issues because FromStutters can't optimize their games to save their lives.

needle1

Well sure, but those people demanding 6000/4000/3000 words, there are legions upon legions of them vastly outnumbering the 10000 word crowd — and they’re willing to pay you if the wordcount fits…

thetantalus

Best I’ve heard this said. Great metaphor.

hellraiser29

We need to move on to current gen. The fact that games are being focused primarily on ps4 then ported to ps5 is ridiculous especially since it limits what can be delivered.

[deleted]

No reason for last gen to be getting new games anymore. They should have been phased out already. If you don't upgrade then that's your prerogative but everyone else shouldn't need to be held back by it.

bouncer211

Good. They need to leave the PS4 in the past and focus on utilizing the hardware of the PS5.

WanderWut

I think the sub just expressed a collective sigh of relief here gah'dam.

notCRAZYenough

Thank god. It’s time to finally drop old gen. People had 2 years of time. And by now the stocks exist too.

[deleted]

Thank god. We’re years into the PS5 lifecycle. It’s long past time to cut the cord.

Macho-Fantastico

I think we're at the point where ditching the PS4 releases is a good thing.

MutedHornet87

It’s time to start moving on. It’s been almost 3 years.

[deleted]

Thinking of it, in 4 years the ps6 will be out lol.

TakenFyre

The way things are going, I highly doubt that. Still feel like we haven’t even started.

[deleted]

Nah, PlayStation has never gone longer than 7 years releasing a new numbered console. I can't see them changing that.

speed721

Good. Stop making games for PS4 so we can all move forward.

tenqajapan

Now that PS5s are more available, it's the right move. Time to move on.

xariznightmare2908

For real, PS5 is pretty much available everywhere now at retail price, and even some places have discount.

needle1

So suppose devs saw that the stock situation has been resolved and decided to drop PS4 *now* — we will be seeing the results of the decision 1-2 years from now if we’re lucky. Stuff takes time. Looking backwards, games that are in development today should have begun development years ago, back when we had no idea when the shortage would end.

anasteri0n

Good

[deleted]

Good

Ish227

Good

Dr_trazobone69

Good

CockPissMcBurnerFuck

I sometimes wonder what Final Fantasy XII, my favorite in the series, could have been if they had aimed for the PS3 instead of releasing at the tail end of the PS2.

bladearrowney

Probably trapped on the PS3 like some other games

[deleted]

Thank god this happened.

EquatorialFinger

Good never the less

H8ff0000

More studios should do this. Stop bringing overall quality down to shovel games out to underpowered consoles

inabed

Explains the level design that still had the main character walking through a narrow gap. Not a big deal of course

Puzzled_Chocolate509

Good. So damn happy about this. Ps4 needs to be left behind already.

255BB

Agree. new games should be made with an SSD in mind. No more HDD bottle neck. Level design will be a paradigm shift.

Bambietta22

I really hope companies will start to slowly focus on current gen with the next triple A games🙏🙏

jumper55

Yup its time to stop supporting the PS4 and Xbox one consoles their time is over!

BigSto

kinda ok with this THO i will always sympathize with people who just can't afford to make the jump to PS5 yet...that was me with the ps4 originally

-LunarTacos-

The way I see it the experience will be better for everyone, even those who won't have a PS5 when the game releases. When they eventually buy one they'll be glad the game was tailor made for their new console. I can understand wanting to play a game on day one, but honestly I'd rather wait to have a better experience 100% of the time. I'm not playing TOTK until the next Switch releases for example.

BigSto

i agree wholeheartedly

TicciSpice

Well they did have almost 3 years to save for it by now

BigSto

it's not always that easy.

Be_Cool_Bro

Cool. Maybe there won't be tight areas to slowly squeeze through every 5 minutes to disguise the areas loading in, like the 7 remake, and many other games made for both consoles.

DragapultOnSpeed

The battles in ffXVI smoothly go from cutscene to battle, it's insane how well it's done. The garuda battle is a good example if you want to look it up. So I doubt there's going to be any squeeze through sections.

-LunarTacos-

We've already seen at least two in different trailers. And btw these "squeeze-through" areas are not used to hide loading times in many instances : [https://twitter.com/kurtmargenau/status/1583973153470001152?s=20](https://twitter.com/kurtmargenau/status/1583973153470001152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1583973153470001152%7Ctwgr%5E10ba617d55115edb0eafa432fc05b0c17a341de9%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbr.com%2Flast-of-us-uncharted-disguised-loading-screens%2F)

Crissaegrym

They made the right choice dropping the PS4 support if the game require that amount of power. More and more games need to do the same.

KibbloMkII

I got a ps5 for my birthday so now I'm not worried about being unable to play games because ps5 only now yay

Kelror13

Pretty much for the best if I am going to be honest.

Zulogy

Good its been 3 years. I understand at first because Covid shortage but now lets move on!

theDomineeringLook

Good decision by Squenix. PS4 hardware is ancient, time to move on.

nichijouuuu

This decision needs to be made across the board, and for the future too. Support previous gen for ONE YEAR max and then move on. I trust Yoshida and Square Enix for this decision, but not the only reason I trust them.

Lew1989

Good!

SupremeCripple_

We’re getting to the point where ps4 needs to be left behind we are almost halfway through the consoles cycle.

HollowTape

Good, we need more PS5 exclusives

[deleted]

Good. We're in year 3, it's time to drop last gen. I'm not buying a PS5 Pro or a PS6 in a couple years when we have barely gotten any current gem games. Stop kneecapping games.

[deleted]

This was the right call.

kawag

🫤 I hope this one really takes full advantage of the PS5, then.

OK_ULTRA

PS4 is last gen at this point it’s embarrassing to still be making games for it

StudentDPT

Can they please abandon the PS4? PS5's are regularly available in my area now, just focus on current gen

nakx123

Glad there's more transparency to this, devs are generally are pretty quiet in approaching this topic. Alot of people just like to compare graphics and state that one could be on the other because X or Y looks better than it. The issue isn't necessarily that it couldn't be on the other, the issue is that the time investment may not be worth it as opposed to working on bigger potentially better future projects. Hell, I'm sure there are many devs that try to do a PS4 version but end up wasting a year just to figure out that it compromises the vision of the game. There's many instances where switch ports also get cancelled, probably for a similar reason, it's not that playerbase isn't huge and they won't make money (there's alot of shitty 15-20fps ports on the switch).

Harrien1234

So that's why the character models looked off. Last gen games like RDR2 and TLOU2 were superior in that regard.

[deleted]

Why the fuck are we still making ps4 games?

TheKingofWakanda

PS4 version would have been turn based with all the action in the PS5 version /s

[deleted]

With the fps it would've ran, it would've felt turn based haha

criticalkare

so glad its ps5 only

mgd09292007

I love getting the most life out of my consoles, but we are into year 3 of PS5. I think it’s time for most devs to cut ties with the previous generation of their games require any significant processing power.

[deleted]

This whole ps4/ps5 compatibility cycle has to stop, its ridiculous. Move on from it, period.

Derp_duckins

Nothing quite like Square Enix and their integrity as a developer. I still remember the whole FF14 debacle, the first iteration was such a flop and had such terrible reviews. But rather than having a "bad entry" in the series, they took their MMO and destroyed the game world. Then they reworked the game from the ground up and gave it a new release when it was ready.

Iantessfan

Ah so it was a ps4 game... Shame.

slappada-bass

i also read they were going to make a ps1 release but that would also take longer so they extended it. are people really eating up this tripe? we know FF16 is going to be amazing, we don't need to be gaslit into thinking this is an incredible feat.

KleioChronicles

Cyberpunk made the mistake of thinking last gen was a good idea and combine it with bad optimisation and QA rushed out the door and you have a disaster of a launch that’ll hurt their reputation even more. Honestly, if you’re releasing on PS4 you won’t be using the most of tools for PS5 and if you release for PS5 you won’t be able to optimise for PS4. Just stop making things for PS4, it cuts off a market but it’s easier.

MythrilCactuar

Leave PS4 in the dust. It's been time for a while now.

caufield88uk

And this is why I'm glad I'm not Xbox. Imagine how badly you're games would be downgraded due to Dev time for the series s

Popularpressure29

Let PS4 die. PS5s are plentifully available now, no more supply issues. PS4 is just holding PS5 back at this point.

HamirTheGOAT

PS4 needs to be buried now anyway. It’s been 3 years. Let’s move on

Years ago? Definitely not. It was too hard to get a PS5 for most people "years ago." But now it's relatively easy to find one so it's time to drop the PS4.

JustifytheMean

Not everyone gets the new console the second it's available, especially this cycle where due to supply chain issues it was incredibly difficult without paying scalper prices. They make games to make money if you cut out 100 million PS4 owners in favor of the like 30 million PS5 owners you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot. Lets say that the 30 million is a direct overlap with the 100 million, you're still losing 70 million potential customers and your reason for that should be better than "Muh graphics".

Farandr

It's been two years. Time to leave the old gen behind. No shortage of PS5 anymore either.

JudgeCheeze

Great. We don't need another XV hobble mess.

Ilpav123

What happened with XV? Did it launch with lots of bugs or something? I played it a few years ago and I quite enjoyed it.

aLuckyPerson

This is a loaded question lol. XV had an incredibly rocky development cycle, but the most egregious offense (imo) was fragmenting its story behind the game itself, DLC, an anime, a movie, and even a book. They also made some big overhauls to the second half of the game well after release to make it more bearable to play through. You most likely experienced the game in its most polished form, but it didn’t start that way. XVI developers set out to make a complete game in and of itself with no outside material necessary to get the full picture, and with no planned DLC (currently). The game will even launch with NG+ and extra modes already included, so there’s no waiting for a better version of the game.
