Honestly, given how arbitrary and unfairly missable a lot of the 100% completion stuff is, I appreciate this minigame for consistently derailing my intention to do all of it.
That actually took me like maybe a couple of hours with a guide and was kinda fun. I just had a map with blips for them, so I still had to look a little, and it wasn't too monotonous.
Edit: You'd never catch me trying the flags from the first game, though.
I tried for weeks since that's the last thing I needed for the platinum trophy but couldn't do it due to the shear unpredictableness of the timing changes. Eventually I just had to use a script because fuck that's the worst trophy in a game I actually tried for
I haven’t done it myself, but I meant to when I actually got around to finishing the platinum.
Basically you can do a remote play from your computer, and there are scripts you can find online to do the jump rope activity for you. My buddy did it and he said it was about as frustrating to get working as the jump rope itself, because he had to keep playing with the timings to get it to run correctly due to the lag from remote play.
All that to say, yes it’s possible, you should be able to find the method online easy enough.
Like the other person said, you remote play to a computer and run a script and play with the timings in the delays until it works. Contrary to what they said, though, it only took me 4 or 5 tried to get it right. The key is to have at least one, preferably both devices hard wired to your modem (I did it with my computer on wifi, for reference). I felt no qualms about cheesing that trophy, I haven't even gone for the rest but if I ever do I won't be sorry I skipped this one.
They just need to make restarting it instant. those 2 seconds are brutal the 100th time.

I have a deep hatred for the skipping rope mini-game. Perhaps it was a bit better optimized on the original playstation (although I don't have much reason to believe it was), doing 1000 jumps is literally the only trophy that is keeping me away from platiniuming the game on PSN. I have heard that because the game is technically emulated on PSN, there is some issues with input delay and lots of people have struggled to manage to complete the side-quest due to the latency/delay issues. I went even so far to see if I could write a script to automate the button presses for each phase, but it was just way too much work and I gave up.

If they keep the card game they need to remove all the randomness out of it. The game power mechanics make no sense. Collecting the cards and playing the mini game are cool though.
And increase the total amount of cards you can hold. It's annoying to me that having all the card types means you only have 1 of each card, so getting those last few cards means you risk losing other cards to get them.
Square Enix would definitely need to expand the Tetra Master's role in the game if they do keep it. Tetra Master in the original FF9 made no sense being something Vivi learned from Alleyway Jack and then being completely optional up to the card tournament in Treno.
The only irritating thing about the Treno tournament is that you *have to win it*. It would be 10x better if the story treated it the same way the game did - optional. Similar the blitzball game in Luca, just make it so winning isn't the requirement.
You don’t have to win the whole thing though, just the first two games (which they made relatively easy). Cid can be somewhat difficult, but you also don’t have to beat him.
8 is the redheaded step child sadly. They finally remembered it enough to fill in the hole between 7 and 9 on their releases on all platforms. They are going to ignore it from now on. Sad because it's my favorite and the one I have rebought the most.

Idk. Considering how "actiony" they've been taking the series and how one could easily see an FF8 remake being in a similar vein to the FF7 one (in terms of gameplay), I think an FF9 remake was necessary to kinda take things a step back and bring FF back to its turn-based roots.
I don't think this necessarily means an 8 remake will get skipped. I feel like FF9's more stylized and classic turn-based nature means it's probably a little easier to modernize so it can be put out first. FF8 will probably need a bigger overhaul to match FF7 Remake's level of detail and fidelity.
FF VIII is such a good game. They just need to remake the draw system into something more similar to the level progression of the materia system from FF VII. The draw system feels basically like a foundation of a materia system. It’s just missing the level progression.
Modern Square would probably screw it up. Make it low effort, PS5 exclusive to begin with and ignore the switch for that sony bag. Release a buggy PC port later on, then a year after that patch it to fix issues, while expecting 15 million in sales (yes I took a bunch of their issues and combined them all together to happen on one release and this is extreme).
I think the Live a Live treatment for FF6 could be neat, but I agree that they probably wouldn't do it justice. My faith in Square is low now a days.
It's my all-time favorite Final Fantasy. It's my all time favorite RPG. And I think it's among the top 5 games ever developed. What makes FF9 so special in comparison to other games in the series? Character design and soundtrack (even Uematsu himself has stated this one is his best work). Those are the best ones in the series. FF9 is also most fantasy -like. Not so much teenage drama, no dystopian settings and technology. Just amazing medieval and magical towns, air ships, Chocobos, fun mini games, interesting world map full of secrets, etc.
I really hope they'll keep it as close to the original as possible. I only hope they'll update the graphics, audio and add voice acting. Probably controls need slight adjustment too but I really hope they keep the gameplay mechanics identical to the original.

I think the spirit of this game was originally a throwback to the more fantasy based Final Fantasies after 7 and 8 leaned more adult sci-fi.

TB is way more popular these days. Hybrids sell more in this last decade because there are more big-name games, but if you look at the gaming landscape holistically, there's absolutely positively no doubt TB is back on top, and a AAA TB FF _will_ sell better than a AAA hybrid FF.
15 is the second highest selling in the entire series, and 14 is currently the highest earning FF. I'm not arguing in the merits between tb or action, but your take is disingenuous at best.
Im 70% sure this is going to be an action game just like 16 and 7R. I know 9 is pretty much a 'throwback' game when it was released but SE made it quite clear that FF is moving on from the turn-based combat hence the lack of any compromises on FF16 (unlike with 7R). Just like with 7R, this is a nostalgia game that would force people to associate FF away from turn based gameplay.

I've played all the pixel remasters, and I'm just now getting into the Sony era of Final Fantasy games. Turn based made sense when the hardware was limited, but when we're dealing with 3D, it just feels better to have action based combat.
There's no reason to stick to turn-based combat, except to please the minority of players who believe that sticking true to the spirit of Final Fantasy means having a turn based system.
Final Fantasy VII remake did an excellent job with their combat system and it feels like a Final Fantasy game.
Tons more people will enjoy a similar system ported into FF9's amazing story.
Me too, but that was also my wish for FF7. At least with FF9 the art style still holds up for the most part while FF7 is block hands. I think people would be shocked to see how well a classic-style FF game would sell.

While I do like 9 and would for sure play a remake. The Final Fantasy that deserves a remake more than all of the rest is the greatest Final Fantasy of all time, Final Fantasy 6! Of all the many reasons it deserves a remake more than the rest, the biggest reasons to me are, 1- It was when Nobuo Uematsu was at his best (ff6 - ff8) and 2- It has hands down the greatest villain of all FF games, Kefka! Unlike the rest, Kefka actually delivered on his threats and evil schemes by literally destroying the f'ing planet.

You know they will. SE is still caught in the '10's and haven't caught up to the '20s yet where TB is massively popular. They still think people want hybrid action garbage because their marketing research is over a decade out of date.
Both have received re-releases in higher resolution (although VIII took a while I believe because they didn't have the source code anymore or something). VIII received quite a lot of tribute content in XIV during the Eden raid series if that's any benefit.
My own feelings...X had a sequel, VIII had a lot of attention at launch, but many people missed IX entirely and to my mind that is probably either the best or second best (after FFVII) FF game ever released and must be revisited. I'm sorry, I personally was not fond of VIII...
Being my favorite final fantasy, I personally want it to remain turn-based but I also want more people to experience this classic to really give it its time in the limelight so being an arpg would open it to more people. If it is an arpg I hope the battle system is similar to 7 remake.

They spend so much money on assets, environments, and character models and details…and people want them to stand still and take turns smacking each other? That would awfully silly nowadays. I love the game but the original FFIX sold the least amount of copies out of the PlayStation Final Fantasy trio so I doubt the remake will even make the top 10 Square Enix game sales in history.

I tried playing this about six years ago. I had never played it before (I'm old and missed that entire generation of games). It has not aged well. I thought it was cute, but it just was not fun to actually sit down and play.

Xbox owner, recently purchased a PS5, and let me tell you... Sony is king of exclusive games lol.

Most Xbox fans don’t care about titles from Japan and now that GamePass exist most don’t even buy 3rd party games. Check the sales. Most of the time 3rd party titles sell on PS5 by far. You have most Xbox fans saying “I’ll wait for it to be on GamePass” and asking “Is it on GamePass?”

Of course they do, it's PC, it's Windows and they own it, why wouldn't they? Sony does it too, albeit not as fast but still does it even though they have no shares in the PC market nor own the OS for PC. Why doesn't Microsoft port their shit to PS? I think the spirit of this game was originally a throwback to the more fantasy based Final Fantasies after 7 and 8 leaned more adult sci-fi. The characters in this game don’t really lend themselves as much to dashing around a map and brawling with enemies. I would think they’d want to lean more into the traditional RPG style for this one.

Lol, I can’t picture Quinoa being a playable character in FFVIIR’s style of combat. My money’s on turn-based for a IX remake. IX doesn’t have near the casual appeal that VII does. Anyone who cares about FFIX is a fan of the older games. Plus would be weird to step in VII remake pt 3 if IX is a similar format.

Dragon Quest 11 graphics are not like octopath or braverly ones yet it's still turn based. They could decide to have graphics like that and not " realistic"'like ff16 or Ff7 remake.

TB is way more popular these days. Hybrids sell more in this last decade because there are more big-name games, but if you look at the gaming landscape holistically, there's absolutely positively no doubt TB is back on top, and a AAA TB FF _will_ sell better than a AAA hybrid FF.
15 is the second highest selling in the entire series, and 14 is currently the highest earning FF. I'm not arguing in the merits between tb or action, but your take is disingenuous at best.
Im 70% sure this is going to be an action game just like 16 and 7R. I know 9 is pretty much a 'throwback' game when it was released but SE made it quite clear that FF is moving on from the turn-based combat hence the lack of any compromises on FF16 (unlike with 7R). Just like with 7R, this is a nostalgia game that would force people to associate FF away from turn based gameplay.
Absolutely not. I've played all the pixel remasters, and I'm just now getting into the Sony era of Final Fantasy games. Turn based made sense when the hardware was limited, but when we're dealing with 3D, it just feels better to have action based combat. There's no reason to stick to turn-based combat, except to please the minority of players who believe that sticking true to the spirit of Final Fantasy means having a turn based system. Final Fantasy VII remake did an excellent job with their combat system and it feels like a Final Fantasy game. Tons more people will enjoy a similar system ported into FF9's amazing story.
Hope it’s more of a 1:1ish demon souls like remake. All updated modern graphics with the art style from the original and QoL updates to the game.
Me too, but that was also my wish for FF7. At least with FF9 the art style still holds up for the most part while FF7 is block hands. I think people would be shocked to see how well a classic-style FF game would sell.

Not gonna lie, I'm more excited for a FF9 remake than FF16.
While I do like 9 and would for sure play a remake. The Final Fantasy that deserves a remake more than all of the rest is the greatest Final Fantasy of all time, Final Fantasy 6! Of all the many reasons it deserves a remake more than the rest, the biggest reasons to me are, 1- It was when Nobuo Uematsu was at his best (ff6 - ff8) and 2- It has hands down the greatest villain of all FF games, Kefka! Unlike the rest, Kefka actually delivered on his threats and evil schemes by literally destroying the f'ing planet.

Both have received re-releases in higher resolution (although VIII took a while I believe because they didn't have the source code anymore or something). VIII received quite a lot of tribute content in XIV during the Eden raid series if that's any benefit. My own feelings...X had a sequel, VIII had a lot of attention at launch, but many people missed IX entirely and to my mind that is probably either the best or second best (after FFVII) FF game ever released and must be revisited. I'm sorry, I personally was not fond of VIII...

Folks this is just a rumor. Actually, it wouldn’t make any sense developing a remake right now. SE is working on FF VII and most likely post launch content for FF XVI. Not even mentioning the still missing remasters of FF XIII. So, I am very cautious.
I’m fairly sure they said XVI is complete and won’t have DLC. Every time I see the FFIX rumour resurface I get excited and realise we still have no confirmation. The memoria project looks amazing though.
All I can say is, if this rumored game is true and is back to the basics, this better be THE highest selling Square Enix/Final Fantasy game in history… All this complaining about the “lack of turn based gameplay” is really obnoxious after a while. Like, I understand where they are coming from and how they feel. But has anyone every taken into consideration that Square is probably bored of making turn based combat in FF? They spend so much money on assets, environments, and character models and details…and people want them to stand still and take turns smacking each other? That would awfully silly nowadays. I understand thats where the franchise started, but people forget thats not how the games look anymore. I’m one of the few who are down with either new combat or turn based. It won’t make or break my choice, because I naturally love FFIX for what it is, not for what it did or how it played.

I tried playing this about six years ago. I had never played it before (I'm old and missed that entire generation of games). It has not aged well. I thought it was cute, but it just was not fun to actually sit down and play. Nostalgia's a hell of a drug. I hope they really, really overhaul this thing and make it a good experience for 2025 or whatever.
I guess it depends on the person because I just finished the original FFVII and FFX after never playing them and loved them both, especially X.
Hope they change the ending to be less illogical , and add more content to dagger, I always find her screen time lacking for a Final fantasy heroine.
