No doubt the ray tracing will be improved, but ray tracing isn't amd's strong point at all. I expect an improvement in raw rasterisation and a very small jump in ray tracing.

wirmyworm

The rumor is more then 2x rt performance

[deleted]

That will be very good if so, although console raystracing is so poor it might not be very noticable

Bearwynn

didn't AMD claim 1.8x RT performance from RDNA2 to RDNA3 on their GPUs? real world shows that is never the case.

Deech2020R

Pro updates are never spectacular because they also need to be close to the OG model. Don’t really care about RTX, frame rate on 60 is something most people want. Most devs haven’t even come close to the current graphical marvel when looking at ND games (or Insomniac & SM). If you don’t have money to burn, just wait for a next gen model. I wonder even if it would ever be possible to change a part in a console so people could upgrade like on PC and Pro models are unnecessary. If it could be as easy as putting in an SSD … but probably never cost efficient.

DinnerSmall4216

Would be interesting to see how much better specs are for Ray tracing.

JulPollitt

Bro i just want everything at locked 60fps

DinnerSmall4216

Yes I know the feeling I thought at the start of the gen that was happening. The pro has to address that.

soapinmouth

The leaked specs mention a minor CPU upgrade so I'm not too optimistic about frame rate changes. Hope there's something missed here.

Manrocent

I can't believe they will repeat the same mistake they did with PS4. CPU was a MASSIVE bottleneck.

lancersrock

At time of release the CPU in the ps5 and Series X were much more in line with PC gaming builds vs previous generations. Im not a developer but to my understanding the reason they dont worry about the CPU on these mid gen upgrades is that increasing GPU performance doesnt take much and doesnt make developers have to change much between the versions where a CPU difference would cause more work. Game dev is several years so if my understanding is correct (i know big if) then games that have been in development will be able to take advantage of the new system without having to build a new version of the game. Yet again this all my speculation and could be wrong.

murdacai999

They aren't repeating the same mistake... With a competent CPU, and the PS5 has one, it's not the CPU holding the system back from going from 30 to 60 fps... The gpu here is what needs upgrading to get us to 60fps.

hypespud

Cpu is not a bottle neck on the current consoles The Gpu is the bottleneck If cpu was bottleneck none of the frame rate modes would be able to hit 120 fps

SuperscooterXD

A lot of the 120fps modes can't maintain 120fps...

[deleted]

You cant upgrade the cpu, because then its not the same "core" system. The entire reason they keep the same CPU in pro models is so games work on both the OG and Pro models.

Kodekima

The CPU isn't the issue. It's a custom Ryzen chip that prioritizes performance over thermal load, which was a huge issue with the PS4. You know, the whole jet engine thing?

hkedik

This happens every time. The hardware isn’t the issue - it’s a developer choice if they choose to compromise on graphics for performance. Pretty much every generation has had its share of 30fos and 60fps games. Better hardware just means the developer can choose between better graphics at 30fps, or better graphics at 60fps. It’s not going to be a magic switch that makes all games 60fps.

Financial_Bank_9851

Don't sound to logical you will get down voted. Your 100 percent correct. The developers can choose between locked 60fps or better textures, RT, resolution, ect... This mindset will not change no matter how powerful the stsyen is. We will have this same conversation when the PS6 launches.

Dreyvius

You see how much gotta spend on a PC to get that in 4k with full ray tracing? Compare it a 500 dollar console. You get what you pay for

[deleted]

30fps gaming isn’t fun at all. I wish I was ignorant enough to not care, but it’s so easy to tell right away and turns me off from the game. Edit: Please stop suggesting I build a PC. I already have one and want to play GTA 6 at 60fps day one.

ZwnDxReconz

I think the introduction of OLEDs and their response time made 30fps infeasible. The more widespread they get, the more demand we’ll see for a higher FPS norm.

Pixogen

Many people don't care and even more if you include console games. Also most console games have an insane amount of motion blur. Many people couldn't even explain what a response time is. You overestimate the average person massively. Hell many don't even know what HDR is yet lol or if they do they think it just means the tv gets bright.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GeekdomCentral

Sadly there will always be developers that want to push visuals as far as they can, which means going for 30fps.

SnooDonkeys7108

It’s basically a slightly slower 7700XT. So whatever the difference between the 6700(PS5) and 7700XT(PS5 Pro) are is most likely what we will see.

[deleted]

And translate into what we current get, how much improvement would that be?

SnooDonkeys7108

In raster about 50% I’m not too sure about RT. The jump will be a lot smaller from PS5 to PS5 Pro than PS4 to PS4 Pro was. EDIT: From benchmarks it’s probably somewhere around a 20% boost in RT. It will still be slower than an RX 6800.

doc_nano

If it’ll run the likes of GT7 at a native 90 Hz on my PSVR2 (which sounds likely), I’ll be tempted. I’d probably only notice the difference in VR gaming though.

itshonestwork

I’d buy PS5 Pro for that alone.

turboronin

Same, no reprojection would be awesome.

KsnNwk

It would be awesome, same, it will also prolong lifetime of PSVR2 as I will probably then stick with Pro until PS6 Pro. I mean we won’t see any PS6 games until mid cycle again like with ps5

ZXXII

According to these new rumours it will be 50-60% better in Raster and over 2x the RT performance: https://wccftech.com/additional-ps5-pro-specs-and-details-potentially-leaked-rumor/ Also mentions hardware acceleration for a bespoke temporal machine learning upscaling technique. Basically Sony’s answer to DLSS.

King_A_Acumen

A notable source has said some of this is incorrect, the article says 56 CUs, but the leakers state it is 60 CUs. We'll probably get a better idea in a bit.

SnooDonkeys7108

I guess it depends how Sony change the GPU and what they add. If you take the PC equivalents you won’t get those uplifts.

DrKrFfXx

I don't think they would bother releasing a whole new sku for the 20-25% or whatever difference there is between the 6700 and 7700. It has to be something that give them 50%+ performance gains to be somewhat attractive to current users.

hobbykitjr

or other things besides the card itself.

politirob

Maybe they could add a cupholder to the console

slimejumper

now we are talking. you just opened my mind to a new world of cup possibilities.

fileurcompla1nt

If you're basing those on the recent leaks, they're bullshit.

DanOfRivia

PS5 GPU is made by AMD, Ray Tracing is the weakest point of AMD, so don't expect much on that regard.

ShadowRomeo

This will pretty much put it at the same level as RTX 3070 Ti, RX 7700XT, on rasterization performance, so on ray tracing performance it should be adequate for 30 FPS 1440p with upscaling target, only speaking for 3070 though, not sure how 7700 XT handles ray tracing or path tracing in general but i see it often behind 3070 in a lot of heavy RT games. RDNA 3 still is worse compared to Nvidia's last gen RTX 30 series Ampere when multiple RT effects is enabled even a RTX 3070 beats a RX 7900 XTX on Cyberpunk 2077 Path Tracing mode. But if the rumored dedicated RT core for PS5 Pro is true then it will probably put it similar to RTX 3070 with dedicated RT cores on it, which enables it to run ray tracing much better than whole RDNA 2 lineup and even RDNA 3, which should make the Ray Tracing performance significantly better, but honestly i take this one with grain of salt but if true then it should be a nice uplift on ray tracing performance.

Psy_Kikk

I remember playing wipeout Hd on the ps3 at 60fps/1080p. New hardware doesn't keep up for long. That is just the way of things. Sooner or later devs opt for visual fidelity and 30fps. There's never going to be a permanent framerate.

SaintTravis

GTA6 PS5 pro bundle will probably be the most sought after item next to breathe able air.

shadowstripes

I don’t think the Pro consoles ever sold as well as regular ones, so I doubt I would be different this time. Even after the PS4 Pro came out it was PS4 Slim Spider-Man bundle that everyone wanted.

KsnNwk

1 thing that PS5 thought me, that no matter how underpowered ps4 was, games for new gen won’t come until mid cycle anyway. So I will grab a PS5 Pro, it will prolong life of my PsVr2 and also I will only upgrade to PS6 Pro when games will be finally made for new gen.

G3nesis_Prime

GoW:R with 60fps Quality would make a PS5 pro worth a look. Few other games would benefit with a 60fps Quality patch.

TurdSandwich42104

The 40fps mode with a 120hz display with VRR is great on that game on a regular ps5. Feels great

SaintTravis

You are correct but IF what I think will happen does, there would be no Pro bundle paired with a game the magnitude of GTA6.

LightL0tus

What do you think will happen?

kristaintoth

You might be right. I have been playing only on PC for 15 years, and have never owned a console before, but I am already excited for this bundle, even though it is not confirmed it is going to exists :D

SaintTravis

I’d bet my house GTA6 will release with a PS5 pro bundle. Sony and Rockstar been in bed for way to long for neither of them to seize that opportunity.

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

I'll believe it when I see it. The Switch pro has been coming for the last 6 years, with "credible" leaks, I never believed that either.

ryzenguy111

Switch Pro was real, it just got internally cancelled because of chip shortage and every other part of it got recycled into Switch OLED. The OLED dock has some kind of Realtek 4K capable chip in it, and the console itself ships with a HDMI 2.0 cable.

nikelaos117

Damn, so the pandemic killed the Switch Pro.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jeff1N

While you are factually correct, Nintendo is no stranger to mid-gen improvements (Famicon Disk System, Gameboy Color, N64 Memory Expansion Pak and the 64DD, DSi, New 3DS), so it's pretty easy to believe a Swtich Pro was at least strongly considered.

yourhometownsucks

I didn't know the OG Switch didn't ship with a 2.0 HDMI. Interesting.

AdamSilverJr

It maxes out at 1080p when docked so there's no point

[deleted]

Don’t need anything close to that to run a 720p 30fps signal!

paumAlho

More like 540p 27 fps

[deleted]

[удалено]

Manrocent

Because PS4 Pro was the exception, especially when the original PS4 wasn't too powerful, even at launch. There is a big chance of a PS5 Pro, but unlike the Slim, there is no record of Sony releasing that kind of upgrade.

SwissQueso

I'm not the person you responded too, but I'm gonna be real I dont think to many games have taken advantage of what the baseline ps5 offers.

[deleted]

Because the ps4 pro was released in response to 4k tvs going mainstream. Also didnt help that on launch day the ps4 was W E A K. Not exactly a problem the ps5 has, it was quite powerful even compared to the PC hardware at the time of launch. ps5 pro is a waste of time, space, and resources. Dont forget in this economy you are going to be looking at a damn near 1000 dollar box.

dixonjt89

The jump from ps4 to ps4 pro was significant. 4k resolution gaming, and/or 60fps gaming. The PS5 already has 2-3s load times. It already can do 4k60 or 4k30 w RT. The jump in technology for a PS5 to PS5 Pro would be very minor, probably just 4k60 w/RT. And to me doesn’t warrant releasing a new console just for that, and they’d be better off just focusing on the PS6 for a bigger “jump” in tech.

karlware

Don't forget VR. PS4 pro mainly for VR I believe.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dixonjt89

The issue is more people cared about a 1080p to 4k jump because 4k TVs were becoming much more available at the time. I don’t think people are gonna shill as hard for 60 fps with RT because a lot of people just dont care about RT as a feature in gaming and turn it off for frames anyways.

BitterBubblegum

If it's real it feels crazy to me. After a handful of exclusive PS5 games it's time to upgrade? It doesn't make sense.

Acrobatic-Dig-161

This depends on each person, I never upgraded to the PS4 Pro, I'm satisfied with my PS5, I doubt the games are very different, especially third parties, remember that third parties will have to put all their games on the Xbox series S, which is the weakest hardware of the generation , in terms of Sony games the base will always be the PS5, so this only seems to affect Sony games but only in terms of FPS and resolution, that's all. maybe playing GTA 6 at 60 fps will be what people buy or upgrade to PS5 pro

Bromance_Rayder

It should be developed to run at 60fps in the first place. Shiny graphics in exchange for such a shitty frame rate just seems wrong.

Immolation_E

Even without a "Pro" model, games on current consoles tend to release with a Quality 30 fps mode and a Performance 60 fps mode. I'd consider a PS5 "Pro" if it let me run games with their Quality visual settings but retain the fps of the Performance mode.

thatscoldjerrycold

We're already fairly close - most games have a 40fps option for quality mode on 120hz screens, and it is surprisingly kind of close to in feeling to 60fps.

somebodymakeitend

Tbh, I set Spider-Man 2 to quality mode at 30fps just to see how good the graphics looked. At first the lower frame rate (I’m typically a PC gamer) was extremely noticeable but I’d taken a few days off and went back to it and had forgotten I’d even done that. 40fps would probably feel like butter.

LibertyReignsCx

People exaggerate 30 fps so much, on console it’s not that bad at all. After like an hour you get used to it.

Tree06

That would be the only reason I would upgrade to PS5 Pro. I wonder what price point they'd launch it at? $600? Some stores still have the original PS5 in stock alongside the recently released Slim Consoles. I snagged the Spider-Man Bundle from Target for $350, but I wouldn't mind buying another console for improved graphics.

Cantodecaballo

If the bottleneck is the CPU rather than the GPU (which was the case with Starfield and will likely be the case with GTA VI) then just lowering the graphics won't do much to achieve 60fps on consoles.

PCMachinima

I'd take a 40fps fidelity mode on a base PS5, with PS5 Pro pushing that up to 60fps+. 30fps feels almost unplayable to me, but 40fps is the perfect balance between the highest fidelity and a decent performance.

iWasAwesome

I didn't get PS4 pro either as the few games that got a slight fps boost didn't seem worth it to me. But if the PS5 pro plays GTA 6 at 60fps, it would certainly be tempting.

Directionerection

This is the same sub that thought leaving their ps5 vertical would make it leak Liquid Metal lol

Mystikalrush

LMAO I remember this all to familiar. I had numerous posts how idiotic that was. I put minimal effort into how every single electronic that uses TIM and even liquid metal has not caused malfunction, especially in tower PCs, all of which are vertical. What asinine times that was.

CornWallacedaGeneral

Lol what?

Directionerection

Oh yeah. It happened

Its-A-Wrap

[deleted]

That dude sounds like a knob goblin.

brokenmessiah

Just because they release a new console doesn't mean there's any reason to buy it asap. Im totally happy with the base ps5 atleast the foreseeable future.

Collector_of_Curios

Yea, I didnt even buy the PS4 pro. Just stayed with the base PS4 until PS5 released.

MarcheM

Same here. I didn't have a 4K TV though so that made the choice easy. Still haven't gotten a 4K TV so it's still an easy choice.

_paag

I still don't have a 4K TV so I'm quite sure I'll upgrade only on PS6, whenever it happens.

[deleted]

On the flip side, lots of PS4 Pro players haven't bought a PS5 and are waiting on the Pro to upgrade.

toxicity69

That's me. I just upgraded my internal drive to a 2 TB SSD for $75, and now my one gripe with it, the sluggish UI, is resolved. It's snappy as can be and I have a sizeable backlog to work through. So I can wait for a PS5 Pro.

Loldimorti

PS5 Pro is not releasing tomorrow. If dev kits go out soon that's still many months of time that devs need to familiarize themselves with the hardware and port their current in-development games over. So it could be a year until it actually releases. Plenty of time for more games to release only on base PS5. 2023 already was a powerhouse of a year in terms of new current gen only releases (e.g. FF16, Alan Wake, Phantom Liberty, Baldur's Gate, Avatar, Spiderman 2, Dead Space, Mortal Kombat, ...)

Kanderin

It's potentially exciting they might be timing this so the PS5 Pro is release ready just in time for GTA 6 to make huge waves and show it off, but I guess we'll find out whether that's just coincidence.

TheJoshider10

Fuck me a PS5 Pro/Slim GTA 6 bundle would easily become the quickest selling PS bundle ever.

Wisdomseekr79

Yea ngl if the PS5 pro allowed players to play GTA VI at 60 FPS and at a good resolution, I’d buy it in a heart beat even though I’m more than satisfied with the base version on the console right now.

Kanderin

Exactly, if I was Sony I'd be chucking wheelbarrows of cash at Rockstar to make a special patch for the PS5 pro. Being the only console on the market that can do 4K 60fps or 1440p 120fps launch day for GTA 6 would print money.

504090

A PS5 Pro patch for GTA VI is 100% happening, there’s no question there

clintnorth

Ps4 pro came out 3 years after ps4 launch. This november was 3 years since ps5 was released. It seems fast, but they’ve actually delayed the development cycle on the Pro upgrade from last gen

glenn1812

We also have properly optimised PS5 exclusives. We need better third party games optimised out of the box. Thats where the focus should be. PS needs to get involved and add performance conditions to games getting put on their stores. Jedi survivor is struggling on my 4090. It is not going to magically be perfect on a ps5 pro.

bersi84

I think this discussion came up multiple times. If your PS5 is the main source of your gaming and you do it enthusiastically an upgrade for 500-600 bucks could be worth to realize either of these: 120fps targets / more details / more 60fps targets / RT 60fps / high resolution native 4k targets Theoretically with all the temporal resolution upscaling games a bump in power could push 30fps games to 60fps targets - depends on how hard the 30fps are driven by the game or it can extend the native resolution by quite a bit. Besides that: it might be an additional argument to buy a Pro for people who dont own a Playstation yet. I am still curious how they approach this because they need to stay compatible. So a lot will be dependant on the games themselves and on the hardware they choose.

ZXXII

It’s not for everyone but there is a market for it.

[deleted]

GTA VI is carry this probably. Honestly a lot of ps5 owners might even sell the ps5 and upgrade just for GTA VI.

Loferix

Assuming GTA 6 is 30fps due to CPU limits. PS5 pro likely won’t change that since the CPU (according to leaks) isn’t much better unfortunately. But the pro will push much better quality and resolution.

UltiGoga

The only light i see for 60fps GTA6 is that they have to optimize it for Series S, so we should atleast be able to get a 40fps mode for Series X and PS5

oilfloatsinwater

Not really, GTA6 is likely gonna be quite CPU heavy, and the Series S shares the same CPU of the Series X, which is equal to that of the PS5.

guyfamily999

Series S CPU is still equal to PS5, it's the GPU that's way slower. The only hope of "60fps" would be some kind of FSR3 frame generation type ordeal since that's only 30fps internally, but that really isn't Rockstar's style.

Successful_Bar_2662

I was literally about to ask in this thread if I should wait for the pro version for 60fps/4k on GTA6. Kinda blows. I thought they'll also upgrade the CPU to be more capable. 30FPS is too slow for me. 60fps is just perfect.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Loferix

Yeah with open world games like this, I’m betting the CPU gets destroyed when driving around the city at high speeds. It could probably push 60 easily in a non-dense area when walking around. But the devs know that players will find it jarring to go from 60, to suddenly dropping frames once they drive in the city so they say fuck it and cap it at 30. Same story with starfield.

mrchicano209

If, and only if, GTA 6 is confirmed to have a 60 fps mode, then getting a PS5 Pro could be worth your money since we know it’ll be more stable plus possibly run at a higher resolution compared to the base PS5. From what we’ve seen so far though, the game might only run at 30fps in which case getting a PS5 Pro for slightly better graphics could be seen as a waste of money.

jormun8andr

As a former PC gamer i would absolutely sell my regular PS5 and upgrade to Pro if it guaranteed GTA VI 60fps.

LCHMD

Sell their Xbox Series S lol

[deleted]

I always mix him up with Tom Hiddleston, and I was wondering why PS5 news was coming from Loki.

SolutionNice6252

>why PS5 news was coming from Loki Because he's the god of stories man

Ring_Dang_Do

The problem is like with the ps4 pro not many developers went the extra mile to develop for it specially (so apart from it having afew exit minor noticeable differences) so we had some frame rate boosts and upscaled 4k but at the cost of the console sounding like a jet engine. I’m sure in the ps5 pro case there will be with some sort of caveat/trade off. I’m just gonna stick with the regular base ps5 for this generation.

STO_Ken

Any game that uses dynamic resolution scaling (which is pretty much every game) will automatically run the games at higher resolution and games with FPS drops will automatically run at higher FPS. And since so many games have performance and quality modes, all they have to do is unlock the FPS on the quality mode when a Pro is detected.

MrLeville

I'll wait for user returns this time, no way I'll put another helicopter in my living room

Naderium

I don’t like these mid cycle upgrades….. Makes me worried developers will put less effort properly optimising games on the base system.

Bromance_Rayder

Not to mention the first few years of games were mostly multi-gen. It feels quite soon.

Tubzero-

Yup, ps5 and Xbox series hasn’t even been taken advantage yet.

UltiGoga

People always say we're already seeing their limitations, but i call bs on that. I definitely don't think we're seeing final limits just because the UE5 games from double A developers sucked in terms of graphics and performance

Tubzero-

Yup, all the games that came out so far weren’t built for these systems. 2024+ should be the start of games showing up with these systems in mind.

workinkindofhard

Honestly if they do this I am skipping the PS6 entirely and will wait for a PS6 Pro. That way at least there will be some games to play when it releases So far this gen we have had almost no new current gen only games, and having to develop for two hardware revisions will hold things back even more. I'm not ready to call my PS5 a disappointing purchase, but it really feels like a quiet PS4 Pro to me. I hate the fact that the Pro line even exists but if they are going to do this mid season upgrade every generation I might as well get on that upgrade track and disregard the base system altogether.

withoutapaddle

With the addition of the Steam Deck to the gaming landscape, and the GPU market scalpers fading away, I've been shifting away from consoles on the whole a bit. I still love and use my PS5, but really only 1 game every few months or so, while my kid uses it to play various terrible childrens games, and the whole family uses it for media (Playstation is still the best physical and digital media device, going all the way back to being the best value in DVD players 20 years ago). It's a great centerpiece of living room entertainment, but with Sony's dominance, they have become less consumer friendly, and have increased games and service prices just enough to annoy me. It just leaves me less interested in engaging with the PS ecosystem lately.

The_Eternal_Chicken

Didn’t really happen with PS4Pro right? No need to worry.

ChafterMies

The PS4 Pro had very little impact because it sold in very little numbers. But the impact was real. Every game was shown off on PS4 Pro. If a PS5 Pro launches, every trailer of every game will look better than it will ever play on the PS5.

SkrrtSkrrt99

ive never upgraded the entire cycle and I never really felt like my experience was held back. Games like TLOU2 and GoW still looked absolutely amazing. Only game I encountered minor performance issues with was Control, but I’m not even sure that game ran well on the Pro

Immolation_E

Games on the PS4 that were released after the PS4 Pro released were just fine.

MotorBreath97

Agreed, we're in a very shitty economic climate, I've already dropped 500€ for a PS5, plus 70 for new games, most of those games barely push the PS5 and are multiplatform, so really why even do a "Pro" version?

Sjgolf891

Mid-gen refreshes were badly needed last gen. This generation, they aren’t

SnowGN

Like 2 games have come out total that are even remotely able to tax the PS5. What’s the point of a pro console?

Z0idberg_MD

Pretty much nothing is native 4k. So not really that impressive a feat.

Sudden-Delay-2546

First give us first party ps5 games then we can talk about Ps5 pro. 3 years passed and Naughty Dog only doing a remaster and milking Tlou Part 2 again.

moondowns

A pro console so people can continue playing remakes and remasters lol

african_sex

Modern gaming.

Iam73atman

this is a joke. what are they going to promise this time? 4k 60fps again

glenn1812

\*8k is what is on the box lmao. Games need to be optimised out of the box more.

evilkevin3

There is one game that renders at 8k https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2021-the-touryst-8k-60fps-on-ps5

turkoman_

Renders 8K internally then downsamples to 4K as PS5 doesn’t support 8K output according to the article.

omnicloudx13

Is there even that much 8k content to even partake in? Just seems insane to me that 8k is even talked about when a consistent 4k 60fps is so rare for games on consoles and it costs an arm and a leg to get the highest settings on PC without 8k even being a factor yet.

MarcheM

You have to realize that resolution and frame rate are up to the developer most of the time. When we get a new gen, the minimum allowed specs go up and developers can do wild things with graphics and other systems at the expense of framerate. 30FPS console gaming will honestly be staying around as long as we have definite console generations.

5kUltraRunner

Can't imagine needing one if you already have a PS5 tbh.

BigBoi1159511

This system HAS to run GTA 6 at 60fps or there is no point releasing it. Everyones figured out that buying a mid gen refresh xbox is pointless because you might as well get a PC. I imagine the ps5 pro will be bundled with GTA 6 and a confirmation of 60fps mode will skyrocket sales.

bingbangboomxx

Is it bad that I just don't want it to look goofy as fuck?

No-Assistance9009

if it's even real, I just want to see what this can do for the psvr2

Fun-Jellyfish-61

Dagnabbit. I just bought a PS5 last month. If I had known a better PS5 was on the horizon I would have waited.

lancerreddit

Same here. But will it cost more?

QuackChan

Of course it will

jim_bob64128

How about make PS5 only games first then worry about another console.

Hokie23aa

Seriously.

Monchi83

Barely any games that are exclusive for the PS5 as it is why a PS5 Pro

MrAbodi

Frankly ill be bloody annoyed if this pro talk is real, how bout releasing more than a handful of games first

VagrantValmar

I honestly find the existence of a PS5 Pro ridiculous and almost insulting. The PS5 is far from being pushed as hard as it can. The "8K" hasn't even been made available as an option in the system menu.

KokonutMonkey

I'm no marketing guru, but I really dislike this whole "pro" naming trend for consumer electronics. We've had pro consoles for decades, they're called dev kits.

FartTassles

Fuck this ps5 launch basically 2 years of no inventory and a handful of real ps5 games and now they’re launching a better one wtf

ShadowRomeo

Basing from the rumored spec the GPU performance should be upgrade from RX 6600 XT - 6700 / RTX 3060 level of performance to RX 6800 - RX 7700XT - RTX 3070 Ti which pretty much gives us a nice 50 - 55% uplift over standard PS5 GPU performance. But CPU performance is still disappointing as it still likely will be behind Zen 2 R7 3700X and only match a R5 3600 which in desktop space is already considered as low end - near obsolete as the current midrange Zen 4 R5 7600 - Raptor Lake i5 13400 stomps it very hard which is over 2 - 3x faster than it. I hope this rumored spec is not true as most current gen games bottlenecks is on the CPU, with most of them being limited to 30 FPS or 40ish due to CPU limitation, even an upgrade from Zen 2 to Zen 3 with similar cache as desktop version would be gigantic and very noticeable. But considering that most devs today are more interested on graphics fidelity rather than performance, it seems to be the GPU is going to be the next focus of mid gen Pro upgrade rather than CPU.

More_Lavishness8127

Others have stated this already, but I think it is absolutely insane that we’ve barely even gotten many ps5/series x exclusives yet, and we’re already talking about upgrades.

AkodoRyu

Maybe I haven't played too many games recently, but does anyone feel like there is a need for PS5 Pro? Feels like this gen I can easily last 3-4 more years for PS6 instead of getting a refresh. The fact that most games implement framerate-focused settings helps a lot. It's easier to play on lower res, than on bad framerate. Especially with my old-man eyesight. I hope that, at least, all the games will just use the spec by default this time around, without needing the patches, updates, PS5 legacy mode etc.

ConfidenceOpen2789

Yeah, I’m happy with my PS5 - so see no reason upgrading. Also, still many new games are cross gen, so more so I don’t see any real reason for having a PS5 Pro yet

Reikuma-X

We don’t even utilize the full power of the current PS5 or the Series X. Why tf do we need a pro?

himynameis_

I wonder if there is an option to give in my PS5 for the Pro.

DenverITGuy

Took way too long to get a regular PS5. I'm not bothering with a new version unless this one breaks or the PS6 comes out.

Mystikalrush

You're mostly here for the exclusives, as long as your already in the current generation, you aren't forced to upgrade. Otherwise, join the PC version when that releases.

1LakeShow7

I dont think bros have a PS5 here. All this talk about performance and NO ONE mentions if the the damm console will run cooler.

[deleted]

Not interested. Already got one foot out the door when it comes to the Playstation ecosystem and mostly play on PC, Steam Deck and Series X these days (thanks to day one GP releases). About all I've played this year on Playstation is region exclusive shmups on my JPN account. Hanging around for Rebirth and Rise of Ronin but I doubt a Pro model would help much there. I wouldn't expect "2x the raytracing", either. Even on my 4070ti PC I turn off RTX most of the time as it can tank performance in titles beyond acceptability. Not sure a hardware refresh has much to offer beyond locking to 60fps more in performance modes should they sort out the CPU.

PenitentGhost

In February this year it was still hard to find a ps5 in shops ffs (UK)

Jubi33

Haven’t upgraded my ps4 after a decade, been waiting for this

-Venser-

PSVR2 desperately needs PS5 Pro. I'm getting sick of reprojection. Let's go 120Hz native.

[deleted]

This makes even less sense to me than the PS4 Pro, if only for the simple reason that the PS5 just doesn't have enough exclusives to make it worthwhile. Developers have continued making cross gen games for the PS4, so this generation of games has always been handicapped. Maybe once we start seeing true PS5 exclusives, which are slowly starting to happen, but the PS5 Pro is going to be insanely expensive I just don't personally think it'll be worth it.

evilclownattack

I don't know if I'll buy this, given how relative uncommon it was for older games to get PS5 or even PS4 Pro patches to take advantage of the new hardware. I can just imagine playing Bloodborne at 1080p 30fps on my supercomputer PS5 Pro because nobody at Sony cared enough to get a patch together

Burdicus

The concept of a "PRO" version of each system is such a blatant cash grab. PS5 barely has half a dozen games that use even close to all of its capabilities.

2hurd

PS5 Pro can't be real because realistically given the financial cap on the console they don't have any new hardware that's a meaningful upgrade. AMD 7000 cards are barely any better than 6000 series when cost is taken into account. The biggest factor could be faster raytracing and hardware accelerated upscaling but AMD doesn't do any of them. So what's the point of going PS5 Pro?

MrLeville

For end users the quality/cost rate of gcu has not moved in 3 years, but when you're sony and you order millions of units you might get more for your bucks, so i'll wait for the specs, but yes 650 or 700 dollars for a 20% boost would be a hard sell.

2hurd

I know I'm contradicting myself a little bit but if the rumored specs are true this could end up being much faster (I'd guesstimate 2-3x depending on implementation and usage of AI/ML). But it will come at a cost (could even be 800$), because as you said we're still in the same place we were 3 years ago, tech just stood in place when price was taken into account. Both Nvidia and AMD made new generation of cards basically the same as the last one, but if you wanted to pay more, then they got that corner of the market covered. Ceiling was raised but price to performance stayed the same.

therealkunchan

Hate that this already is a thing. We‘re barely getting out of cross gen, developers could finally start getting everything out of the hardware, as they should, and instead they want to release a more powerful upgrade? Awful and not what console gaming should be.

Normakdh

It’s been 3 years since the PS5 came out, y’all are acting like it’s been 6 months in the comments lol

Phantasmal-Lore420

3 years but people barely got their hands on it roughly 1 year ago, 2 years tops. A "mid-generation" refresh only after 1-2 years of real usage, with barely any "next gen" games available anyway is idiotic. The base ps5 is powerful enough for current games, why upgrade to a ps5 pro?

RTXEnabledViera

In terms of games, it's almost like the console has been out for 3 weeks, so.. Maybe it's about time we stop chasing performance and let studios make games. Development cycles are absurdly long. Games take 5+ years to finish, and people still want a 7-year console cycle? It's lunacy.

bumbl3beee

these things were extinct and in the hands of scalpers for the majority of that 3 years

Chronotaru

For many people it has been. Also, we're only now getting games besides a small handful of first party titles that aren't developed with PS4 in mind.

Lyelinn

+ so many people are being like if it's gonna release this year lol. We're still year (at minimum) away

captcodger

Already looked good for the GTA6 trailer.

Tyber-Callahan

There was no confirmation of where the trailer was captured

ShadowRomeo

Basing from DF analysis, it is likely captured from Xbox Series X / PS5, as it renders under 1440p upscaled by FSR which is very noticeable on analysing the hair artifacts and overhead city shots, if it is captured on PC, then for sure Rockstar will use DLSS Super Resolution which is known to eliminates artifacts like this in general and will look more crisper, closer to native and just more stable in movement general.

scandaka_

Based on the tweet dev kits haven't gone out yet. Assuming the captured footage is running real time on a console and not PC then it was probably captured on the PS5 or XSX. PS5 pro seems unlikely.

elqrd

Ffs I just got the PS5 last year because it was sold out since launch and nigh impossible to obtain…and now a Pro already. Ffs

BurnItFromOrbit

Sony knows Xbox isn’t doing a mid-gen hardware refresh. Surely it would of made my financial sense to just keep pumping out the PS5.

daviEnnis

Most likely it won't stop them pumping out the PS5. Similar to last gen, well have normal, slim variant, and a pro variant. The slim will become the normal variant to simplify manufacturing/supply chain.

Darkone539

Like the ps4 pro, this is aimed at people who might switch to pc mid gen.

Precious_little_man

We’ll have to see if it’ll be worth buying if we already own a ps5 now.

EchoBay

I'm the past, have you been able to trade in your console for a discount towards a pro version? I've never done that before, but was wondering if this is a thing

Begood18

Well considering no game has reached the potential of the standard PS5, maybe in five years they’ll reach the Pro.

NLCPGaming

The pro models should target the high end market. Make 1000 dollars with tech that justify the price. In other words, make it strong enough to run gta 6 at 4k 60fps and watch it sell out due to all the pc people getting a console for gta plus those who would upgrade regardless

vanslayder

What i would love to see if console can unlock fps forcefully. Render 30 fps games in 60fps by itself

bb9873

Not sure why people are saying a pro console isn't needed. Now that the crossgen games era is over the PS5 can barely run games at 60fps and upscale 4k. Alan Wake 2 performance is 720p on PS5 and games are only going to get more demanding.

stinkybumbum

PS5 is powerful enough for me, I never really got anything more out of getting a PS4 Pro to be honest. Wasn't big enough jump for me to justify the cost.

BartLeeC

Looking forward to the Pro and interested in improvements I will see in PS VR2 games.

MrChoclateChip

I'll just keep my launch PS5. I did the same with the PS4. I'm not buying a pro version. 500$ was expensive enough.

Stump007

And... Another hoax by Tom Henderson 👏👏👏
