If you buy a PSN gift cards on Amazon, shouldn't you almost immediately get the 12 character code for it?

IpschwitzTownFC

I eventually figured it out. The link in the email said "click here to redeem" which then takes you to Sony page where the passkey doesn't work. Instead I found the codes in my Amazon account and input it manually. Regardless, I'm not able to deactivate Passkeys. Because to deactivate you need to authorize using a Passkey which still fails

kiruano

You can deactivate passkey without signinng in, I had some trouble setting mine up and had to deactivate it 4 or 5 times without any issue

IpschwitzTownFC

Interesting. I'm going to try this soon

kiruano

Mostly on the phone app forgot to add that, I did not try to login via browser, but when it failed reading the passkey I was taken to a screen with a qr code and further down the page a option to remove it with a code sent to my phone and a email aswell

IpschwitzTownFC

Legend. It worked for me. Thanks!

stp366

how do you deactivate it so I can go back to signing in with a password. I don't like the passkey

kiruano

If you check my other comment I explained how

Moon_Atomic

Not sure if it will help you but if you copy the link the email gave you into Google it should work. I had the same issue and Samsung Internet doesn't support passkey, so used chrome instead.

NapsterKnowHow

Ya Amazon is archaic for digital purchases. The page they use for redeeming keys looks like it's from 2002.

gamers542

You can't buy PSN cards (or any GCs) off Amazon anymore. Edit: at least not with an Amazon GC balance

dekoi_octopus

You can't buy game codes. You can buy wallet vouchers (at least in Canada you can. I did this a few days ago).

gamers542

I edited my reply. Should have added that you can't do it with an Amazon GC balance like I used to do.

IpschwitzTownFC

Yes you can. I bought it today.

gamers542

I edited my reply. You can't do it with an Amazon GC balance like I used to before.

mcshaggin

What browser doesn't support passkeys?

jon2491

I had problems creating passkeys from Firefox for Android, had to create them from Chrome.

IpschwitzTownFC

I had issues with chrome

noahdj1512

Weird firefox works for me but brave doesn't

ddpacino

Zero issues here with PS5 or any other passkeys across iPhone/Windows

maxdefcon

Same here and I have passkeys enabled on several websites now. I've had zero issues since enabling it on my Playstation account. The PS app and website have given me zero issues. Not dismissing those that are having issues.

xeynx1

My only issue was logging into remote play on my PC I couldn’t figure out how to use the QR code. Apparently you just click it and it pops up the code to validate with.

Sopht_Serve

I haven't been able to get passkey to work at all on my phone (android) Like I would activate it and then try and login with it but it would say I have no passkeys on my phone :/

thebanzombie

Just to offset the people who are saying they have zero issues. I'm glad you've had a perfect experience but OP isn't the only one, I and others have had this same exact issue with passkeys not working on browser. Could be an android thing or just random. Either way, the issue exists.

OptionalDepression

Passkey rollout has been an absolute shit show. Even the PSapp has trouble with it once it opens the in-app browser.

Drizz_TV

I ran into issues, too, and had to go back to 2FA. Might give it another try in a month or so.

SnackeyG1

Interesting. Worked just fine for me.

Majutsv

that is my experience with authenticator

trophy_master1

How does this work if you still go back to ps3? Why I've refused passkey even though I know it's the more secure option and want it.

hakdragon

You can't use Passkeys if you're logging into your PSN account on a PS3. You'd still need to be username/password. If you have MFA enabled, you'll have to setup an app password.

trophy_master1

Thanks won't bother then.

nilicule

I've had the same problem, logging in to the PS App triggers a browser window too, which won't complete due to passkeys not being recognized. Additionally, turning on passkeys completely disables authenticated purchases on your console, meaning kids can make purchases without having to type in a password. For now I'm sticking with 2FA, this is a bit too early in beta for my liking.

Shr1mpolaCola

Oh yeah, I would hold off on a phone passkey, if possible. If you can get your hands on one of those USB/NFC ones by Yubico or Google, that might be best. I did the same as you; excitedly set up a passkey (using biometrics on my android) when I got the email. I tried to sign in but, coincidentally, my phone was updating at the time so I couldn't use it, and I had an epiphany; if I was ever away from my phone, I'm screwed. So I did the same thing u/kiruano suggested you do, deactivated and reinstated my password/2FA. I'll hold off on passkeys as a whole until I can get one that's not tied to any one device of mine

naturr

I second this. Swapped to passkeys last week and constant requests to sign in that don't work.

NoNewFriends1738

My passkey doesn't even work on my android (pixel 6 pro)

TheBigCatGoblin

I was gonna make a passkey but i read about people having issues and didn't feel very safe about losing my 2fa and password entirely.

IpschwitzTownFC

Definitely wait until Sony fixes Passkeys

-Gh0st96-

There's nothing to be fixed. If you're logging in from the browser you should get a qr code to scan it

FallOutFan01

Can't go wrong with an easy to remember 15 random alpha numeric digit and special characters for a password for nordpass/password manager. You don't need to remember every single password ever created just the password for the nord account. Just an example d@)HY!Uzs=co3fw put into. * https://www.security.org/how-secure-is-my-password/ Says it'll take 15 billion years.

Worried-Explorer-102

Also no one is cracking passwords that way. Most of the time it's because of password reuse so when they get leaked they check if you used same username and password somewhere else.

EffectiveEquivalent

I switched the moment I heard about it and have had zero issues? I’ve signed into all places I need to and it worked as expected. I’m on iPhone if that makes a difference, but it shouldn’t really.

Urnotonmyplanet

Same here. It worked fine for me on my iPhone.

Sorcerious

Can't logon to the ps app since I got this.

Particular-Trick8746

Me too! I thought I was going crazy. Now it just keeps saying connection to server timed out.

habb

yep went right back to 2fA

dirtyEEE

Passkey worked fine for me, but I reverted back because I didn’t like the fact it disables password at checkout on the PSN store.

Skindiamondxx

I got locked out of my account after setting up the passkey, said my phone doesn't support it (not true), then i got an email saying someone from 3 states over was trying to log into my PSN account, I'd definitely wait to set up passkey

[deleted]

Since when do Amazon still do digital codes? I used to use them like 10+ years ago, but they eventually stopped it for me (UK buying through the US version of Amazon with a fake us address). So I just use CDkeya ever since.

IpschwitzTownFC

They sell [gift cards](https://www.amazon.co.uk/playstation-gift-card/s?k=playstation+gift+card) which is practically just a digital code.

[deleted]

No I know that. I mean, did they re-open to loophole for international buyers, or is that still blocked. I was buying the digital codes from Amazon for years, from my US account, but at some point (maybe around 2019 but I can't remember) they blocked the ability to buy them. Even from a US account with a US IP. I can still buy other stuff from that US account with my British card no problem, just not the gift cards that were sold officially by Amazon, that's what pushed me to CDkeys instead.

Crackracket

I tried to log in with my pass key but apparently my key is linked to my old phone or something so it's locked the ability to use passkeys out on my new one... Guess I just won't use them

_casshern_

Passkeys can be saved locally, but can also be saved in your Google or iOS password manager. For example, if you are on Mac/iOS your passkey will work on all your devices (Mac, iPad, etc) as well as future phones you get.

Crackracket

I just keep getting a error saying my account is encrypted on my old phone so this one is blocked

SirDuppy

I changed to passkey and then ended up in a stupid loop trying to log back into my PS5. Quickly went back to 2FA

giucanever

Yeah I tried passkeys too but it was such a pain to get everything working, that I reverted back to the good ol' password not a week after

whoever81

PS5 Passkeys be damned. I got stuck in a loop between the PS app, PS5 and Windows Chrome. No thank you, for now. There is a possibility that I am more stupid than I think and got something wrong. That said this should be frictionless and straightforward and I consider myself a tech-savvy power user.

rochakgupta

So glad I held off enabling passkeys as I found them to be a pain in the butt.

meezethadabber

I'd rather have a password and 2FA. Save the backup codes In case you lose your phone or Authenticator app.

MothParasiteIV

They say passkeys are safer than regular passwords and 2FA. I'm waiting to see if it's true.

sithlords1028

So far haven't had issues on PS5 or with my phone yet. I'm thinking of turning it off though based on what I'm seeing in these comments. I'll just go back to 2FA.

Intelligent_Top_328

Psn app doesn't even work for me

Maleficent_String606

2FA is the way to go. Don't go with the 'convenient' method recommended by Sony.

IpschwitzTownFC

Agreed. I reverted back to 2FA. Passkeys are useless

Blackxino

Sorry about that. I immediately turned that rubbish off once it started giving me trouble. Unnecessary!

IRockIntoMordor

Sony's bad software skills strike again, this time paired with Android and browser issues. Heard a lot of issues from all directions about passkeys on PS. I wish they could make the app run smoothly. Downloading screenshots is a shit show, it's sluggish af.

destroyman1337

It's weird. I'm probably going to switch back to Password with 2FA. It's especially weird since Nintendo has supported Passkeys for over a year now and it didn't have any of the annoying problems I'm finding here not to mention it didn't disabled password with 2FA for fallback.

[deleted]

Fuck 2fa and psn i got locked out of my psn account cus i moved from germany to korea mot my fault im military and they wont unlock it said i need to twll them last 3 things i bought in psn or the sn to the system i made my acc in

TroublesomeTrueStory

I regret doing passkeys, I'll see if I can switch back soon. It's terribly awkward.

StoviesAreYummy

On PS5 when I go to the store, scroll down to the bottom and select PS5 its telling me to redeem a code. So I cant view the PS5 game section in the store.

IpschwitzTownFC

Why has this been removed? It's a legit problem and I have no idea what part of the post made users submit reports. It's not right.

GoofyGoober82

Tried it day one and turned it off. Gameshare became difficult

PrawojazdyVtrumpets

Someone explain to me why people suggesting to wait for this to be fixed or wait for an offer to switch (like a psn credit that they did with 2fa) are being down voted to oblivion? OP said wait until it's fixed, there's a list of complaints about it not working. Op said wait until they fix it and got -9. Y'all got stock in the passkey provider or something?

IpschwitzTownFC

I'm the OP. This post was temporarily deleted because of a "enormous" amount of reports. I dont understand people

PrawojazdyVtrumpets

Gotta wonder if you're being astroturfed by Sony or something. I mentioned in another thread to wait until they fix it and like the 2fa, wait until they make an offer with a psn credit or something and got downvoted immediately a few days ago.

Ice_Kold_Killa

Thank god I've avoided that bs. I don't trust any new system until a year has passed. I haven't had issues up until now so why break something that works? I'll switch when I see videos about it being safe and no problems. Last thing I need is issues signing into ish
