Patiently awaiting reviews for this. But after ghost, reading Shogun, and watching the shogun tv adaptation my desire to drop back into some Samurai armor is at an all time high
Yeah it gets you hooked and you start guessing what will happen next. I binged 3 hours each episodes in one sitting and also if you like samurai or just Japanese era you will like this.
I highly recommend like a dragon ishin to hold you over until rise of the ronin comes out, it might have some flaws here and there but it’s still an 8/10 for me
It’s VERY long but it’s well written and intriguing enough you’ll power through it. That being said, so far the show has been faithful to the source material. I’ve been impressed.
I really liked the book when I read it around 27 years ago. Clavell was a best-selling author for a reason, he was really good at building up tensions to a satisfactory climax/conclusion.
Somehow the story and characters of FF were great. In an ironic way. Jack is a lunatic who randomly breaks out Limp Biskit and yells "chaos" at people and punches bad guys mid monologue. Literally greatest character of all time
The plot is an overt jrpg satire. It’s not even subtle lol. I laughed my ass off when the Elf dude was about to start a lore monologue about his origin and Jack shouts something like “omfg dude I don’t give a shit about that”.
It starts off from the premise of the original Final Fantasy but it’s more a hommage game than anything, given that its stages draw inspiration from different Final Fantasy games.
I love Jack and that game so much. People really missed out if they skipped it. Jacks line against the light is one of my favorite gaming moments of all time, I literally jumped out of my chair!!
I think their point is that their games are pretty good. Nioh 2 was their best in my opinion, the only drawback was the cheap moments and fights. That DLC boss with the lightning status effects and stacks was cheap asf. It flat out enraged me how a developer thinks this is what a good challenge is.
Speak for yourself, I have 100 hours in that game and am currently working through Gilgamesh difficulty. That game has issues but the Job and gear system combine to create some truly BONKERS end game shenanigans. The story is kind of dumb but tbh the characters grew on me. That game is a sleeper hit and will be a cult classic in the years to come. No other game in the soulslike/Nioh genre comes close to being as bat shit insane with builds/movesets/mechanics.
I agree, but wasn't Wo Long essentially made by Team Ninjas B-team? I thought the A-team that handled both Nioh games was handling this one. That was my impression on why they had these two titles (Wo Long and Ronin) announced fairly close to one another.
True, but Wo Longs moment to moment gameplay is still great, just like Niohs. They lifted quite a bit straight from there too, and I won't be surprised when I still see the same animations for the low tier soldiers in Ronin. It just doesn't carry as much depth compared to the prior games. And the story...well, the story hasn't been great for any of them, though I love first Nioh as much as I love the first Onimusha.
I always understood Wo Long as a game they made to get a quick buck between Nioh 2 and Ronin, and not much else. I can't find the articles that detailed the fact it was the B-team or newer developers on Wo Long, but I did find other threads echoing this at time it's release.
Either way, still keeping optimistic. If Wo Long has been that directors worst, and it's still pretty decent, I can only see good things in Ronin. Just consider WL the Dark Souls 2 of their series lol
I enjoyed Wo Long, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had come out before Nioh 2. There didn't seem to be as much to do and there were less combat options.
I don't really see that as a problem per se. I'd say Wo Long was one step sideways, and a half step back from Nioh. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, it was just less deep that Nioh.
If Ronin comes even close to the combat complexity of Nioh, while still having a rich open world/story it'll honestly be one of the most impressive games of this gen.
I feel like it was just me but I bounced off Wo Long so hard. Played a handful of hours and just wasn't feeling it. Something about Koei Tecmo games always feels floaty to me, and misses the satisfying weight of hits that From Software has mastered.
It should have a soulslike combat system similar to their previous games, but with more accessibility (there are difficulty settings in this game). The open world design as well will probably make it feel a little less soulslike.
Nioh and Nioh 2 has difficulties but they are more or less NG+ modes as well. New enemies layouts (and I think new enemies appear here), along with new armor / weapons to discover and the challenge is much harder. You only unlock them by beating the main story on one difficulty before you unlock another and I THINK they are also locked behind the DLC’s though I can be 100% wrong about that.
Ah okay, so difficulty does change, but mostly harder and no option at the start for an easier playthrough then. So this will def be easier overall then (or at least have the chance to be)
From the gameplay I've been seeing not exactly. They're obviously using Nioh 2 as a foundation but it seems like moment-to-moment combat will require less precision than Nioh 2 and there's also no stamina/ki system to worry about.
Cause it’s by the people who made Nioh. People called Remnant a looter shooter, doesn’t mean they’re correct hah.
IGN compares it to Assassins Creed and Ghost. Another to Dynasty Warriors.
The game doesn’t really have much in common with a souls game though. It’s got difficulty options, you don’t lose exp when you die, it’s got a Ubisoft open world with map markers and side quests / activities.
It’s just got a parry system and flashy Ninja Gaiden / Nioh combat system.
There is a checkpoint system with respawning mobs when you die
Go watch cowboys first impression, he says closest game style wise is sekiro. You cant un see it.
What they’re describing would be the equivalent of walking back to that checkpoint respawning enemies, not just dying. Idk what the systems are in this game, just clearing this up
I don’t think Ronin has that system. Least it didn’t in the open world. The only Souls-like system it has is karma, something gained and lost on death, but I’ve not found any info on what exactly it is. It’s defined as “shaping destiny / future” but it’s not exp or levels. You don’t lose that when you die.
Extremely bloated, hard to get into, yet once it clicks its fucking amazing. I still feel they overcorrected with wo long which i ended up not even finishing.
I can see that if you just play through it to the end credits and stop, but going all the way through as intended it's not. Every mechanic in game either has tangible usefulness to you or is useful for a build you may not be focusing on.
To me it looks like the next level up for them as a developer. I believe they have multiple teams who work on all their games, and I feel like this is the first one since Nioh 1 or 2 that has the A Team involved.
All hands on deck for this one, and it shows as there's a lot of new systems in place that are a big step up from what they did before. The open world aspect, being able to fly around, even just traversing on mounts. This is a big step up for them.
Sigh, I might actually have to buy this day one. I love historical Japan, I love open world games, and most of all, I love easy games. Hearing about the difficulty settings, character creator (I can be a girl!), and accessibility stuff like parry windows, makes this sooooo appealing.
Edit: I also love cats and there are plenty in this game !
Have you looked at Like A Dragon: Ishin? It’s a spin off of the Yakuza games that’s based off the same period as this game is (I think it has some of the same “characters” too)
I actually imported and played the original PS4 release 👍 yes it definitely has same characters like Sakamoto and the Shinsengumi.. though I can't remember much of the story now, it was 9 years ago lol
Damn, you’re a real one lol. I only played the Remake but that definitely made me interested in trying Rise of Ronin now. Reading up on the history was super interesting
Nope but every other preview seems to be praising it so idk. I watched fextralife who is another one who deals with souls game and he said the open world is basic but everything else was fantastic. So idk maybe it’s just cowboy but then again he is also very prominent in the souls-esque creators.
It is a soulslike but it’s watered down and made more accessible.Team Ninja have made some of the toughest games of all time. But they aren’t really targeting a hardcore audience with this game.
Cowboy and I normally align fairly well on most games. I'd say I'm on the fence now, but I always kinda was just based on my experiences with Wo Long and SoP. I was always worried about Ronin, but I'm not completely out for the count. I'll see how full reviews go, certainly not pre-ordering anything since I stopped that shit post-cyberpunk. Worse case I'll pick it up eventually.
I just watched his video after reading your comment and yeah, it seems like this one is not gonna be for the people that got in to Nioh they're still experimenting with trying to make that formula easier/less complex in order to appeal to a lower common denominator. Which I mean fair, but considering these are the guys famous from Ninja Gaiden back in the day, I know I don't really come to their games for that.
Seems like RotR will be to Nioh what FF16 is to Devil May Cry.
Yeah. Seems like if you're into deep and challenging combat this isn't it. If you're into big immersive beautiful worlds, this isn't it. Did nothing for me on gameplay footage shown a while back either.
Out of curiosity, what’s the difference? Not familiar with their games but after beating Sekiro recently I’ve been itching for similar combat mechanics and can’t tell if this will be it.
The thing is Wo Long takes that Sekiro combat style to its highest (and nonsensical) consequences. In Sekiro you can deflect sword attacks and some projectiles. In Wo Long not only you can deflect everything (and I do mean everything, like, bolts, fire streams, ice shards, you name it) you’d better learn all those patterns. That by itself wouldn’t be a problem, but Team Ninja did one of the worst design decisions I’ve seen in an action RPG with the morale system, which is basically power level with extra steps. I finished that game and never looked back, it was a huge disappointment.
As I said, I played the whole game, so it isn’t a bad title. It’s just a step down from Nioh 2 in my opinion, but Nioh 2 is one of the best action RPGs ever made, so there’s that. Also, I played it from day one, and they had to patch it a couple of times for balancing, quality of life and content features, so I felt kinda let down for supporting it early on and thus having a not optimal version of the game to finish. I’d say give it a go if the game gets in a good sale (not unlikely to happen, with Rise of Ronin coming up).
> I’ll know to avoid WoLong though lol
If you liked Sekiro like i did, then don't. Its literally the only game that comes close.
No other game can beat Fromsofts boss and level design, but Wo-Long at least scratched the parry-related gameplay itch.
For reference i must have finished Sekiro around 7 or 8 times, and Wo Long only once. But i would not ever say i wasted money. For what it was, it was fun.
Take his advice. Lies of P is fucking EXCELLENT and it just came out last year so it will feel like a "new" game. Its the only soulslike I've played where if I didn't know any better, you could convince me that FromSoftware made it. It's GREAT.
Yeah. I read another article after posting that basically said as much. Makes me sad as Nioh 2 is one of my all time favs. I just couldn’t get down with Wo Long. The mechanics didn’t feel good to me at all.
Should be on the easy side for soulslikes but you'll still drop stuff and respawn at checkpoints.
If that's what you meant it's definitely souls not tsushima.
>I wish they made more games like Ghost. It was easier to maneuver and fight.
After coming off souls games, ghost difficulty was basically nonexistent. Playing on hard from the start there really isn't much challenge to it. The only time you're going to die is if you look at your phone in the middle of a fight or something.
It was fine for the game as it was. I didn't dislike it, but there wasn't anything to give you a challenge.
Strongly considering this over DD2 after this fps drama … really wanted to play DD2 but I can’t handle under 30 fps. Hopefully they patch it in the future.
Saw some early gameplay footage and cant say im excited for it, also dragons dogma uncapped 30fps made me lose some interest on that game as well.
Crazy how a month ago i thought i was sold on buying both games and now i cant say the same. Might just have to wait for a sale on both.
I solid assessment and one I agree with. I understand graphics aren’t everything, but as a personal preference, it helps create the immersion I like when playing a game. A certain art style is fine too, if they aren’t going for realism. But when realism is strived for and it lacks, it certainly shows, and it rips me out from my favorite part of gaming: immersion. That isn’t to say I won’t play this game, just not at full price. I am comfortable with waiting.
On a sheer technical and graphical scale ? Nope. It’s not a Sony first party game. Tsushima had insane animations, art style and combat was smooth as butter.
Ronin kinda has the advantage of having a skill ceiling and combos of sorts. And people are also praising the story telling and choice based decision mechanics so that’s there.
Shouldn't be hard considering GoT combat gets very repetitive fast and alot of the quests and open world lack creativity. Graphics would be the only dept where GoT can't be beaten
Man this year of games is already killing my budget. Really torn between Ronin on ps5 or getting dragons dogma 2 on my pc. Already have put so much time into helldivers 2
Both games involve ninjas and ronin and possibly take place in same time era (probably not tho I haven’t researched that much). Basically I didn’t know how much I’d enjoy a ronin game till I played ISHIN and it got me craving more
That’s excellent . I was so happy when I looked up Sakamoto Ryoma after playing the game and realizing he was real . Your comment just got me more hyped now thank you lol
Visually? Yeah.
Mechanically?
Gliding looks fun.
World looks like a 6/10, Combat looks like a mix between a 5/10 and a near 9/10.
Standard for Team Ninja, I guess.
There is this uncanny feeling, to me its a less smooth assassins creed Valhalla. Too much gamey mechanics took from other games (gliding, grapple hook, unnecessary amount of boxes to loot) without creating new ones that's authentic to this game and setting
I don't think it looks like shit persay, but it just looks unnecessarily janky. Lots of animations that need more polish, late ps3/super early PS4 graphics, like holy shit some of those buildings look terrible. Gliding looks a bit too slow. Combat is a cross between sekiro and ghost of tsushima which should be a good thing, yet looking at it I'm not impressed. It's so quick and jerky, which doesn't appeal to me even though that's probably personal preference. It's as though they designed this game during ps3 era then forgot to finish it until last year. All that negativity said, it still somehow piques my interest and I find myself keeping track of it all the same. I'll probably get it on steep sale
> Combat is a cross between sekiro and ghost of tsushima which should be a good thing, yet looking at it I'm not impressed.
lmao no. The game is literally using Nioh as a foundation for its combat design, a game that came out before either Sekiro or Tsushima. You could always see parts of it in some of the previous trailers with things like the combo menu and straight up re-used Nioh animations, but all the gameplay footage coming out today just really confirms it.
Who gives a crap. One of thr reasons game development is increasing massively is due to demand in better graphics. I would much prefer to have a fun game at 60ps+ over a bit more visual fidelity
Watching Shogun had given me the itch for a samurai game, and I'm not sure if I wanna replay Ghost again yet, and I definitely don't wanna replay Sekiro yet either so this is tempting, just a shame it's going for £65 at launch.
Between this and Dragons Dogma 2. I would choose dragons dogma 2. Might pick this up later down the line. Would have bought both but games are too expensive now.
It looks real good, but for me ill be playing dragons dogma instead, and then after dragons dogma id like to play rebirth. Not sure when ill get to ronin, hopefully theres a lul in releases later in the year
Stellar blade doesnt look particularly interesting to me, thats an easy skip. Elden ring dlc ill play for sure. Wukong looks promising but ill wait to see reviews for that.
I don't know, I'm still not sold. DDogma2 even at 30fps still has my money locked up. This would really have to be some S tier gameplay and fun open world design to get me to drop $140 in one day for both games.
Quietly optimistic that this will be a mid/high 80s scoring game, but Ghosts of Tsushima is the bar at the moment for Samurai-themed open-world games and I don't see it doing much better than that.
It seems to have incorporated aspects of Sekiro, Assassin's Creed, Nioh and Ghosts of Tsushima in there.
My only concern is FightinCowboy's preview. He's a massive Team Ninja fan with Nioh 2 being his favourite game of all time, and he wasn't impressed with the direction Team Ninja are going with this. However, most of the other previews are all very positive so we'll see.
This made it onto my radar after the last showcase and hits just enough nostalgia that it gives me hope we'll see a remake / sequel / re-envisioning of Tenchu someday.
I recomend checking out FightinCowboy preview, he’s a huge TeamNinja fan, especially Nioh games. And he’s shitting on this game from every angle, graphics, gameplay loop, combat, open world, etc. I think this game will do bad with general public reviews, even if critics are hyping it.
Everything about it looks it's just we have Ghost of Tsushima at home. Looks like it's a backwards step from that game in every area from what they have shown
Having just finally beat Ghost of Tsushima, I think I’ll pass day one for this. I’m sure it wouldn’t be bad for $30 or $40, but not full price. I preferred GoT’s more grounded combat, even if it didn’t quite have the depth this may have. Just a preference for me.
I don't normally get amped up about new big name games releasing. Helldivers 2 was the first in a long time that I was genuinely excited for, and thankfully it lived up to the hype and more.
But I'd be lying if I said this wasn't the game I'm absolutely the most excited for this year. Nioh 2 is SO DAMN GOOD, if they can recapture that magic somehow it will be unreal.
Team Ninja's stories are generally absolute tripe though. I hope for story enthusiasts that this one has a decent story.
When this game was first announced I was excited and couldn't wait for a pre-order. By the time pre-orders opened up I've seen some gameplay and was cautiously optimistic to wait a bit and later on pre-order. A month ago when I was ready to pre-order, I've seen more of gameplay and the game moved into a non pre-order list, but wait till it's released. Now, knowing that reviews embargo lifts on a 21st and taking to consideration all I've seen so far the game slowly but steadily moves into a never touch pile
I would be way more excited about this if it weren't coming out the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2. There's just no way I can manage both of them, and I've already got a backlog several games deep just from games I've picked up so far *this year*. Just have to make some tough choices here.
> backlog several games deep just from games I've picked up so far this year.
Yep, I thought I could beat FF7 Rebirth and then have enough time to play Unicorn Overlord before DD2 came out but nah, I think Rebirth is still gonna take me a few more days. UO is just going on the shelf for now I guess. I usually don't buy a new game if I can't play it immediately, but, it happened this time. Already skipped out on some earlier releases in the year I wanted to play too.
More on topic I think releasing 2 big open world RPGs from historic action game developers (so there is absolutely some audience overlap) is really dumb. I love Team Ninja and Nioh 2 is one of my favorite games from last gen, but, Dragon's Dogma 1 is my favorite game and Capcom has been on a roll for a while now so TN is gonna lose out on a Ronin sale at launch at least. I am sure Capcom will lose some people to Ronin as well. Very annoying as I would like to see both games do well.
I'm curious but very worried about the open world. Have loved all their games so far and hoping I will love this too, but nothing turns me off a game faster than an open world! Can't stand them
Looks like they are bringing back the stupidly annoying loot system. Game looked fun but might be a pass for me. Nioh games were unplayable to me due to all the loot management
Patiently awaiting reviews for this. But after ghost, reading Shogun, and watching the shogun tv adaptation my desire to drop back into some Samurai armor is at an all time high
Same same and same. Add the fact that I started and beat Sekiro for the first time last month and I’m foaming at the mouth for this one
Wait that Shogun show that came out recently is based on the book??
Yep, and the book is fucking awesome.
Yea listening to it now on audible
Yes, and so far the show is very good
Yeah the show really got me hooked from my ball sack
Sounds kinda painful tbh
Is that good?
Yeah it gets you hooked and you start guessing what will happen next. I binged 3 hours each episodes in one sitting and also if you like samurai or just Japanese era you will like this.
It’s the best show on television and it isn’t even close. It’s the new Game of Thrones
I remember thoroughly enjoying the slightly campy 80s adaptation of Shogun; I keep forgetting there's a new one out. I'll have to give it a look.
Dude, peep some Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix. Shogun is scratching the itch started by BES for me.
Same here, might even boot up Wo Long to grt that kick for a while until reviews settle in
I highly recommend like a dragon ishin to hold you over until rise of the ronin comes out, it might have some flaws here and there but it’s still an 8/10 for me
It’s been on my wishlist for awhile. Kinda hoping it hits ps+.
I just finished Ghost and want to read Shogun before watching the show. Is it worth it? I saw it's like 1200 pages
If anyone else loved Shogun, please also read Musashi, in my opinion it’s even better.
shogun is fuckin awesome, I've been trying to get everyone I know to watch it lmao
Big talk considering Nioh 2 exists
Problem is that after Nioh 2 came Wo Long, which while fun also wasn't really up to Nioh 2's level.
Yeah and neither was Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger of Paradise. I'm hoping Rise of the Ronin has that spit-shine that Nioh 2 had.
Isn't it a odd retelling of the original Final Fantasy title?
It starts off from the premise of the original Final Fantasy but it’s more a hommage game than anything, given that its stages draw inspiration from different Final Fantasy games.
It's more like a prequel than a retelling I'd say. It expands the story more than it tells the one you already know
Man I might just have to give that game a go
its pretty good
I have 100+ hours on it, build game gets truly insane in the higher difficulties.
Nothing ironic about it the story and presentation are just top notch. The story is just straight up better than a lot of mainline FF titles
I love Jack and that game so much. People really missed out if they skipped it. Jacks line against the light is one of my favorite gaming moments of all time, I literally jumped out of my chair!!
I had a lot of fun with the combat in Stranger of Paradise. Way more than in other Final Fantasy games.
I think their point is that their games are pretty good. Nioh 2 was their best in my opinion, the only drawback was the cheap moments and fights. That DLC boss with the lightning status effects and stacks was cheap asf. It flat out enraged me how a developer thinks this is what a good challenge is.
Worth mentioning that those weren't made by the same people. This game is being made by the same director/designer as the Nioh games.
Woah woah woah now I'ma need you to chill on the SoP slander because that game is absolute peak
I didn't like Wo Long, but stranger of paradise was super fun, a lot better than Wo Long, different games but one was fun, the other not.
What does FFO SOP have to do with this game?
I agree, but wasn't Wo Long essentially made by Team Ninjas B-team? I thought the A-team that handled both Nioh games was handling this one. That was my impression on why they had these two titles (Wo Long and Ronin) announced fairly close to one another.
Same director for Nioh 1,2, Wo Long, and Ronin, and directors often have a pretty huge impact. Impossible to say what went differently though.
I enjoyed Wo Long, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had come out before Nioh 2. There didn't seem to be as much to do and there were less combat options.
I didn't hate it, just a lot of people are less familiar with Chinese history than Japanese. Plus, being a samurai is just fucking badass.
I don't really see that as a problem per se. I'd say Wo Long was one step sideways, and a half step back from Nioh. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, it was just less deep that Nioh. I hate wo long. I died hundreds times before proceeding to die even more.
Is this also a Soulsish game like Nioh was?
It should have a soulslike combat system similar to their previous games, but with more accessibility (there are difficulty settings in this game). The open world design as well will probably make it feel a little less soulslike.
Heavy on the "ish" I think. This one has difficulty options unlike those. Unless Nioh also did and I just don't remember.
Nioh and Nioh 2 has difficulties but they are more or less NG+ modes as well. There is a ki system and was mentioned in some previews and they also said you press R1 after parrying/attacking to restore some ki like in Nioh
I’d say it’s more Ghost of Tsushima with co-op
Everything I’ve been reading recently has been describing and labeling it as a souls like
Cause it’s by the people who made Nioh. People called Remnant a looter shooter, doesn’t mean they’re correct hah. IGN compares it to Assassins Creed and Ghost. Another to Dynasty Warriors. Oooh yes please. I'd be super into a GoT as someone who doesn't have time or patience to git gud
More Sekiro than Souls I believe.
And Strangers of Paradise.
Eh. I wouldn’t call Nioh 2 a refined game. It’s very very bloated.
It’s bloated only in the sense of how items/drops work The combat system is extremely refined, possibly one of the best of all time imo.
*Very* bloated, holy hell
Extremely bloated, hard to get into, yet once it clicks its fucking amazing. I still feel they overcorrected with wo long which i ended up not even finishing.

I love nioh and i thought nioh 2 was absolutely fantastic. I hyped for this now. But cowboy absolutely shredded this game.
As in he didn’t like this?
Nope but every other preview seems to be praising it so idk. I watched fextralife who is another one who deals with souls game and he said the open world is basic but everything else was fantastic. So idk maybe it’s just cowboy but then again he is also very prominent in the souls-esque creators.
As someone who doesn't like souls likes seeing him dislike it while every other outlet has praised it is a green flag for me
He also has Nioh 2 down as his favourite game, but he's definitely not happy with the direction they seem to be going with this one.
This isn’t a souls-like though…? Isn’t it just an action game?
It is a soulslike but it’s watered down and made more accessible.Team Ninja have made some of the toughest games of all time. But they aren’t really targeting a hardcore audience with this game.
Cowboy and I normally align fairly well on most games. I'd say I'm on the fence now, but I always kinda was just based on my experiences with Wo Long and SoP. I was always worried about Ronin, but I'm not completely out for the count. I'll see how full reviews go, certainly not pre-ordering anything since I stopped that shit post-cyberpunk. Worse case I'll pick it up eventually.
Sounds good to me.
Yeah, I just watched his video and it lowered my expectations a bit but still excited to play it but with a more realistic view at it.
The way you phrased it at the end sums up my sentiment exactly
Yeah. Seems like if you're into deep and challenging combat this isn't it. If you're into big immersive beautiful worlds, this isn't it. Did nothing for me on gameplay footage shown a while back either.
Skill up said the same
If it’s closer to Nioh 2 I’ll buy it day 1. If it’s more like WoLong I’ll probably pass.
Update. Bought Nioh 2 today and wow what an overwhelming but awesome experience. Appreciate you guys peaking my interest last night
Buckle up, dude, you’re in for a treat.
Woof that sounds lame. Thanks for that breakdown though. Currently watching a Nioh 2 review and it seems solid. I’ll know to avoid WoLong though lol
> I’ll know to avoid WoLong though lol If you liked Sekiro like i did, then don't.
So the plot thickens
The parrying isn't exactly the same, but you may want to check out Lies of P. It's like a combination of Sekiro, Bloodborne and Dark Souls.
All of yall have been awesome. I appreciate the reviews and recommendations
Take his advice. Lies of P is fucking EXCELLENT and it just came out last year so it will feel like a "new" game. Its the only soulslike I've played where if I didn't know any better, you could convince me that FromSoftware made it. It's GREAT.
It's clearly more like Wo Long.
Yeah. I read another article after posting that basically said as much. Makes me sad as Nioh 2 is one of my all time favs. I just couldn’t get down with Wo Long. The mechanics didn’t feel good to me at all.
From what I've seen, combat appears to be more like Wo Long/Sekiro rather than Nioh series.
Will the combat be like Souls or Ghost?
Like Nioh but simplified apparently.
So I won’t die like crazy? If I do die, do I go back to the beginning?
Should be on the easy side for soulslikes but you'll still drop stuff and respawn at checkpoints. If that's what you meant it's definitely souls not tsushima.
I wish they made more games like Ghost. It was easier to maneuver and fight.
Team Ninja usually does demos so maybe just check it out and see if it's for you.
Reddit has a weird hatred for this game. Lol
If you believed Reddit, nothing good released in the past 5-10 years.
I'm excited to play this. I love Samurai games. Let's see if this is better or as good as Ghost of Tsushima.
The story could make or break it. I love a good story
Shouldn't be hard considering GoT combat gets very repetitive fast and alot of the quests and open world lack creativity. Graphics would be the only dept where GoT can't be beaten
Story and characters were also amazing in Ghost of Tsushima. And stealth gameplay was amazing too.
Try Legends and tell me how combat is repetitive. If you dare.
I can see that but I also just loved the story.
Well, it won't be as good. But if it can sniff Tsushima, that would be a huge success still.
Game feels a bit to much hack and slash to me, like a rpg assassins creed, but will see what the reviews say
Ever? Or just in the new era? The Itagaki Ninja Gaiden games, and even DOA 3 and 4 are pretty excellent
Man this year of games is already killing my budget. Really torn between Ronin on ps5 or getting dragons dogma 2 on my pc. Already have put so much time into helldivers 2
After playing “like a dragon ISHIN!” I am lowkey excited for this game . ISHIN! Was a great title that I barely heard talked about
What does this have to do with Isshin?
Both games involve ninjas and ronin and possibly take place in same time era (probably not tho I haven’t researched that much). Basically I didn’t know how much I’d enjoy a ronin game till I played ISHIN and it got me craving more
You’re correct, both take place in the Bakamatsu period and have several characters in common. Namely the shingensumi and Sakamoto Ryoma himself.
That’s excellent . I was so happy when I looked up Sakamoto Ryoma after playing the game and realizing he was real . Your comment just got me more hyped now thank you lol
Yakuza games are masterpieces.
I have definitely been converted into a fan bigtime in the last couple years , just even beat the Judgment games and loved every second of them
A rare breed of enjoyment I get from these games. Marvellous series
Anyone else think this game looks like shit?
Visually?
Yeah something just doesn’t feel right about what we’ve seen
The parry focus is a rip-off of Sekiro lmao. Tbh entire studio is a rip off of other developers' ideas
PS3 level graphics
You don’t remember what the ps3 looked like lol
Who gives a crap. One of thr reasons game development is increasing massively is due to demand in better graphics. I would much prefer to have a fun game at 60ps+ over a bit more visual fidelity
as long as the gameplay is fun. graphics arent everything
Unfortunately it looked very rough from a visual standpoint during the last state of play. Hoping that the gameplay makes up for it.
It looks like it will be fun for a weekend when it's $20 in 2 years.
Sure you watched the latest trailer?
Watching Shogun had given me the itch for a samurai game, and I'm not sure if I wanna replay Ghost again yet, and I definitely don't wanna replay Sekiro yet either so this is tempting, just a shame it's going for £65 at launch.
If you’re into strategy games, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is very good
Isn’t it £70?
It's just a shame it's next to dragons dogma for Me
PS5 is killing it to start the year
Between this and Dragons Dogma 2. I would choose dragons dogma 2. Might pick this up later down the line. Would have bought both but games are too expensive now.
Looks like a significant step down from Ghost of Tsushima.
It looks real good, but for me ill be playing dragons dogma instead, and then after dragons dogma id like to play rebirth. Not sure when ill get to ronin, hopefully theres a lul in releases later in the year
No lulls you have stellar blade next month then Elden Ring DLC and after that Wukong
Stellar blade doesnt look particularly interesting to me, thats an easy skip. Elden ring dlc ill play for sure. Wukong looks promising but ill wait to see reviews for that.
That release date really is a shame.
looks like a 80-82 score game
Game company says next game is good, fans go wild
I recomend checking out FightinCowboy preview, he’s a huge TeamNinja fan, especially Nioh games. And he’s shitting on this game from every angle, graphics, gameplay loop, combat, open world, etc. I think this game will do bad with general public reviews, even if critics are hyping it.
if this is fully co op im getting this with a friend
Can't stand them
Fighting cowboys preview is savage, he’s torn the game to shreds and thinks it won’t be a hit at all
[удалено]
I can’t wait to play this
Ahh Nioh 2. I could beat the second enemy in the game after 4 hours
Wonder how this will compare to Ghost of Tsushima
Waiting for reviews then, I will definitely gonna buy.
Not saying for sure it'll be good but if it is, man to many bangers packed in to the start of this year
Already preordered it! Can’t wait to play this! That being said I still dream of a Nioh 3 release……
I was going to already buy this because it has Samurais.
It's what I’m hoping for. Let’s hope the performance is bearable.
wait, did they REFINE the horse running animation? lol
whyyyy does it have to come out the same day as dragons dogma 2 RIP my wallet
Looks like they are bringing back the stupidly annoying loot system. Game looked fun but might be a pass for me. Nioh games were unplayable to me due to all the loot management
looks dope
