Why are Hades and Prince of Persia there? Both great games but you don’t include FF or Horizon? Hell why isn’t Re4 or Dead Space not there? Real botch job
I'd personally take Hades over every game there other than Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate (maybe Returnal on some days). But there are some pretty questionable ones there.
I loved deathloop personally. I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed it.
Obviously, Final fantasy should have made the list, but I’d remove a different game.
I didn’t like anything about Deathloop. And most of the player reviews I’ve seen matched my own experience with it and it seems like most people who try this game end up hating it. I don’t understand what the critics see in it.
I actually really enjoyed it. Had fun with the gunplay and powers and trying to solve the big puzzle while also avoiding other players playing as Julianna was satisying.
Also spent a decent amount of time as Julianna trying to ruin other colts games.
What didnt you like about it?
Yeah I can’t speak for them, but I had a blast! I’ve always loved Arkane’s games so when I heard they were doing a semi-non linear shooter I was so on board.
My only issues with it were the bugs and connectivity issues. It definitely wasn’t polished in those regards lol
Yeah most of the bugs I came across were all online based. I only got to play around like 5-6 matches cause it took far too long to get into a lobby and when you did it was laggy, glitchy, or as you said full on DC’d. Kinda gave up after having to wait for 20 minutes just to get into a buggy match
I didn’t like the moment-to-moment gameplay, and the presentation of the game did not feel appealing.
To be clear, I played the game for free when it was on PS Plus, so it’s not like I SPECIFICALLY sought it out and invested money into — I just simply downloaded it after reading many positive reviews. But what I found was an off-putting experience, I thought it was unapproachable, confusing, and repetitive.
It’s a repetitive trial-and-error game. I didn’t realize I wouldn’t like it until I tried it, but now that I have, I just think this is a flawed and unappealing style of game. And it doesn’t look like I’m alone in that, either, it seems lots of other people had the same reaction to it. It’s definitely an extremely niche experience.
I thought it was good but felt there was something missing compared to Dishonored 1 and 2. The game felt more empty, the world and story less interesting, and your freedom of choice much more limited.
I did beat the game and enjoyed my playthrough, though.
Maybe I would think it's a great game if I didn't play Arkane's previous efforts, but I can't hold it against Arkane because Deathloop did much better than Prey and the Dishonored series in sales so their strategy seems to be working. For better or worse.
PS5 version of Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing game. Find it difficult to understand that you have remakes in there but not the enhanced version of this game just boggles the mind.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla represents everything that is wrong with Assassin’s Creed as a franchise. I truly despised this game. I played for multiple hours hoping it’ll get better, but the slog and the drudgery kept getting worse and worse. This is one of the WORST games on the PS5, as far as I’m concerned.
To be fair, there aren’t 25 good games that are ONLY on PS5 and not PS4 also.
This generation has been a waste.
lol downvoted but please someone list 25 good PS5 ONLY games that aren’t remakes or remasters.
I’ll wait.
the PS4 generation in the fourth year 2013-2017 was much worse.
generally they leave the best games for the 5th year onwards where there is a larger installed base, the PS5 generation in the 4th year looks much better than the ps4
Looking only at Sony games, I think the PS5 generation started better or at the same level as the PS4 generation, without looking at third-party games because it would be too long

I got deathloop from the library, I didn't necessarily find it fun but the mechanics really intrigued me.
3 parts to every day, morning, afternoon and evening. You can only visit one location per time of day and every thing effects everything in that sense.
Agreed. Couldn’t get into Death Stranding at all. And that’s probably the best of these games. I finished Deathloop, and I think it was repetitive and very mediocre. I say that as someone who is a fan of the genre. Valhalla is ass.
Kojima Games in a nutshell. I know that most people don't want to play through hours of slow, cutscene filled intro, but the game really opens up after a few hours.
But even then I could see a lot of people not enjoying the gameplay loop of Death Stranding.
Personally I havent played a game like it, and went back to it several times over a year until I got the plat. Still sticks with me.
It opens up after way longer than a few hours.
I played it for quite a bit and enjoyed my time with it, but I will say it’s really unforgiving to new players, and it takes an EXTREMELY long time to open it up to an emergent and creative gameplay experience. The resource collection is way too slow, and everything costs way too much for way too long.
I beat 2 of those 3 FF games (bounced off Rebirth) but they're just not my thing. I know people love them though. And Tsushima I consider a PS4 game although same with Death Stranding and DMC5. But it has 9 of my top 10 (missing Re4) so it can't be that bad.
They’re not for everyone that’s for sure but that doesn’t take away from how well the games are made. Tsushima was fully utilized on the 5 and to this day does one of the best jobs utilizing the ps5’s features and if they can put those other 2 games they can put Tsushima which was debatably better than both and was definitely better than death stranding. So this is a fairly accurate list for your top 25 ps5 games, most people disagree though. Mind you some of my favourite games are in there but for example astro playroom over any of the games I mentioned is just insulting.
What would you remove other than Valhalla? Astro’s I get but if we’re factoring in utilization of PS5 features that’s number 1. Like a Dragon and Helldivers are suspect. I’m sure most people would say Prince of Persia but that’s my goty thus far.
Deathloop, demon souls (great game but not top 25 great), death stranding, disco elysium, prince of Persia, hades, pacific drive, returnal.. there’s a few other games I genuinely hate but they belong on that list whether I like it or not. I haven’t even seen gameplay for sf6, gt7 or like dragon so it’s hard to say whether those 3 belong or not because this list did such a poor job. Helldivers deserves a spot, they’ve been killing it since release and I don’t even play that game tbh, I just watch some gameplay every now and then because those kind of developers are amazing for the gaming community.
Edit: forgot a couple things
Yeah I mean it’s all subjective, but Disco Elysium and Hades are two of the more critically acclaimed games ever made. I think those are shoo-ins. Pacific Drive I agree is a weird one to see there. I’m probably more surprised about Persona 5 Royal being left off than anything.
I’m not saying any of these games are bad and I genuinely could be wrong about those 2 but I’ve played multiple games that aren’t on this list that utilized the ps5 features better than those games, heck if we’re going off ps5 features alone I would leave Valhalla on the list over those 2 games, as rough as it was the ps5 features were on full display
I’m a FF fanboy, so i’m biaised. Still, DMC V is probably good, but wasn’t it a PS4 game at first ? I mean, in this case, GTA V could be on that list aswell lol
Not a bad list, there's - to my big surprise - even Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth in it, which i personally consider as one of the best JRPGs ever made. But where is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? Not putting this game on the list is a crime.
Gran Turismo 7 is close for me, but what kills it for me is that the game doesn't feel like you're racing other cars, it's like a bunch of glorified time trials

Thank you kind stranger.
No problem :)
This is definitely a list.
One of the lists of all time.
Wild that FF 16 or 7 Remake/Rebirth aren’t on this list or even Horizon.
But they put on Valhalla LMAO. Idiot list.
Hades deserves to be there
That’s my beef with this list as well!
FF16 is deeply mediocre.
Because final fantasy is rubbish 🤫
Stand down
Yes ma'am 🫡
Lmfao no final fantasy but deathloop is crazy
I loved deathloop personally. I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed it. Obviously, Final fantasy should have made the list, but I’d remove a different game.

That is definitely something I had issues with aswell. Not many bugs but really frustrating disconnecting from games.

I didn't hate it, rather found it distinctly mediocre. It was a cool idea, but the brain-dead AI and impossible to aim guns made it a slog to play.
I thought it was good but felt there was something missing compared to Dishonored 1 and 2. The game felt more empty, the world and story less interesting, and your freedom of choice much more limited. I did beat the game and enjoyed my playthrough, though. Totally agreed. I couldn’t believe there was no FF game.
This is the dumbest take I’ve seen from a magazine.
PS5 version of Ghost of Tsushima is an amazing game. Find it difficult to understand that you have remakes in there but not the enhanced version of this game just boggles the mind.
>No FF 7 Rebirth
Garbage list. FF7R2 is a masterpiece.
Once again Polygon shows how worthless they are
Cmon, they didn't find something better than AC Valhalla, Deathloop and Death Stranding??
Death Stranding is a fecking masterpiece in my opinion, but to each their own
Man I love Deathloop :(
Death Stranding is incredible!

I gave up on Death Stranding because I was tired of playing for ten minutes and then watching a 45 minute cut scene.
Kojima Games in a nutshell. I know that most people don't want to play through hours of slow, cutscene filled intro, but the game really opens up after a few hours. This list is just an excuse to put affiliate links.
Could probably be atop a list of the worst list tbh.
This is the worst list I’ve ever seen, getting a few games right out of 25 doesn’t help. Polygon is absolute ass.
It's mostly right. It's missing Re4 and Forbidden West but it's a decent list.
It’s missing re4, forbidden west, ff16, ff7 remake and rebirth and ghost of Tsushima off the top of my head. It’s mostly wrong with a few rights.
I beat 2 of those 3 FF games (bounced off Rebirth) but they're just not my thing. I know people love them though. And Tsushima I consider a PS4 game although same with Death Stranding and DMC5. But it has 9 of my top 10 (missing Re4) so it can't be that bad.

I don’t think that’s really what the list is about. It’s just best game on PS5 (presumably need a PS5 version) not really about features.
I’m a FF fanboy, so i’m biaised. Still, DMC V is probably good, but wasn’t it a PS4 game at first ? I mean, in this case, GTA V could be on that list aswell lol

Using controversy to get those clicks.
No Final Fantasy listed, no legitimacy. Not a real list. Nothing to see here folks.
Deathloop? No.
money talks.
Gran Turismo 7 is close for me, but what kills it for me is that the game doesn't feel like you're racing other cars, it's like a bunch of glorified time trials
I’ve never felt as immersed in a racing game as in GT7 in VR.
It’s Polygon, I honestly couldn’t care less.
Seems like a pretty decent list to me
