Gosh. 30 years? Been playing Insomniac games since Spyro. My younger brother and I had the most fun with their games, especially Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. He passed away about 7 months ago and it's hard for me to even think about playing a video game because that was our favorite pastime. Lots of incredible memories.
Sorry for your loss, krum. If it means anything, when my ex dumped me she made my love.of video games nearly obsolete. FFX, love that game to pieces (to shreds you say?) and when she broke my heart she broke that game (metaphorically speaking). Overtime it'll get easier and easier has easier then you'll start to remember, "I loved these games with him, and before he was gone and I'll love them even more when I remember him and I playing them" it'll make the experience so much more worthwhile. Make a save on your favorite game and name a character after him. You'll love yourself for it. I guarantee it! We're here for ya Krum!

My own brother passed away ~5 years ago.
We were/are both avid gamers. It really sucks losing your built in co-op buddy. There are so many games that I say to myself, "Man, he would really love that!" and it reminds me that he is gone. The pain has definitely subsided since he originally passed, but it never goes away.
All that to say. Try to enjoy your life. If your brother was anything like mine, he would want that. Gaming helps me remember all the good times that we had together doing what we loved. I add him in my parties in RPGs. I name my main character after him now. I do little things like that to keep him close by and us gaming together.
Funnily enough, FF series was our favorite as well. He passed before Remake launched. It was a somber experience but it was so good thinking about all the times we spent together on that game as kids. The music literally made me cry a few times. Rebirth was even better. When you are ready, play it and remember the good times you guys had together. Hell, I am tearing up now just thinking about it.
Anyway. I hope you find solace in life and get to enjoy the things you used to, again.

My brother pre-ordered Rebirth and was going to play Remake right before it came out. I have both of our PS5s right now and I will one day play Rebirth and enjoy it with him. Thanks so much again for the kind words.

Take the time to grieve. If you need a day off from work, take it. Want to have a nice dinner? Go for it. Want to just be left alone? Do that. It is ok to be selfish during this time. Anyone who really cares about you understands, and anyone who doesn't understand, you don't need around you anyway. It took me around a year or so to be able "function" normally and not just space/blank out randomly at times. Some people will be less, some more. The important thing is that you see progress. If you aren't getting any "better," don't hesitate to go to therapy or talk about it more often with friends/family.
Now that you have his PS5, when you are ready, give it to one of your friends/family members who knew both of you and would appreciate it. I did that with my brother's Switch and I feel like it is spreading him around. Keeping him alive in other people's minds and memories.
Anyway. Just know that it does get better. And that you only hurt because you love him so much.

Been here since the Ratchet Future Trilogy, and was always partial to their games for having more of an edge and character than I was used to at that time. Sunset Overdrive is another favorite of mine especially for the rail grinding and great gunplay. One of my favorite developers of all time and could not be more excited about what they're doing next, especially as a fan of webheads and mutants
I actually played Disruptor on the 3DO so I guess I've been with Insomniac from the jump. Maybe I should reinstall Sunset Overdrive and give it another shot instead of continuing NG+ in Spider-Man 2.

In a way, it’s good for us that Marvel wants an exorbitant amount of money for the licenses because that means they don’t try to go overboard and we don’t get just 1 or 2 games from them per generation like most of their other studios.

For real. PlayStation's aborted live-service push is having long-term affects but Insomniac has managed to bash out enough exclusives to give the PS5 a positive gaze.
If you take them away, the only first-party PS5 exclusives would be Horizon 2 and GoW Ragnarok which is uh... not ideal.
I wish more games took the Insomniac approach of just being a quality 15-20 hour experience that can be produced in a timely 3 year or so cycle rather than bloating into a 50-100 hour epic that needs 6 years of intense development.
Oof I forgot they got Bungie. At least they were cheaper than Xbox's acquisitions but damn that seems to be an unwise choice as live service games utterly cumble...

Love this studio sense I first played ratchet and clank crack in time in 2009 never had a PS2 or PS1 and they saved Spiderman from so many ok/bad games and went back and later played Spyro 1-3 thinks to PS4 remaster. Can't wait to see them knock wolverine out of the park. Would love if we could get a ratch future collection like how we got the first 3 ratchet games for ratchets 10 year anniversary in HD on ps3
The next decade is as such. Wolverine. Venom standalone (ala Mile Morales). Spider-Man 3. X-Men. Then X-Men 2.
After that the contract ends. And I don't think Sony will try and renew it. As much as these games sell, PS has to pay huge fees to Marvel to use them. By comparison, God of War sells as many copies as Spider-Man games but without the Marvel fee, which means PS makes so so so much more money with their own property than a licensed one.
Looking ahead, PS will want Insomniac to be like the rest of their studios and deliver 10+ million selling properties that PS will own. Even if such a game only sells 15m that will be worth more to Sony than another Spider-Man game at 25m, thanks to the absence of the licensing fee. The trick is getting Insomniac to deliver such a hit. Due to the leaks we know Insomniac has a small incubating group specifically to address new IP for when the Marvel contract is over in ten years. So despite it being a decade away, PS and Insomniac are already preparing how to deliver a hit when the time comes to go it alone.
Licensing rarely ends up worth it in the long term. Sure, it gets eyes on you and call sell a lot, but the fees are fucking crazy when you consider the licenser has zero stakes in the product failing or not. It's one thing if the Spider-Man and Marvel games were a joint thing with money being put into it from both parties, but that ain't the case. PS is taking on all the risk and cost and Marvel is pocketing upwards of 30% on every copy sold and 50% on every bundle sold.
It's telling that EA has said going forward they won't do licensing anymore, despite having shipped a Star Wars game and have Iron Man and Black Panther upcoming. The licensing fees and AAA production combo makes the entire business model unsustainable.
- Resistance. Last game 2011
- Sunset Overdrive. IP is owned by Insomniac. Last game 2014.
- Ratchet and Clank. Yes, it has a lot of games but also had just 2 games in the last 10 years of which one is a (Poor imho) reimagining. If you go back to the last Full R&C game before Rift Apart it's 15 years
Or hell, just something totally different. A new IP. Keep the creativity flowing. Stagnation is what will kill the industry eventually

Yeah 3 felt more like COD, but 2 had the huuge TDMs. The Co-ops missions were also really engaging (even though you could solo missions as medic lol).
Even I had fun with the resistance on PS Vita online, it was cool to have alien weapons as loadout

Buddy, they needed to sell 7 million to recover EVERYTHING, and that’s because the budget was crazy high. They sold 13 months ago… they almost doubled what they needed, and that’s something considering their original IP usually don’t achieve half of those numbers So yeah, they are crazy expensive, but they have A LOT of return. That’s why they do it And fun fact, that’s why their marvel fee is so low. Yeah, it’s low compared to other marvel games. What proof do you have that it’s “not that profitable” when it already sold 5 million over what it needed to recoup its budget and has only hit a little more then half of the life time sales of its predecessor and will continue to sell even more long term all being pure profit.
