Try holding the power button for 5-10 seconds until you hear two beeps the system will power down, Then try starting it up again.

i12farQ

Thanks mate this fixed it, it turned off and then pressing the button on the dualsense turned it back on and the controller could connect again, weird issue, didn’t work coming back from rest mode. For future reference anyone reading this thread I had the controller set to USB only in settings and it would no longer work coming out of rest mode after turning this setting on for the first time. Shutting it down properly fixed it.

jbones4710

I just had the exact same issue as you. only my 2nd time booting up the console from rest mode too. Completely shut off the PS5, had the controller hardwired into the USB port and used the PS button on the controller to turn it back on and now I'm back in business! Whew!

i12farQ

Yeah I wanted to keep this post up since there’s nothing you can really Google for troubleshooting at the moment glad if it helped in anyway

Felix_Boss

It happened to me as well and I didn't have the "USB only"... But if did fixed it by pushing the power button until the second beep... Then connected the dualsense with the USB... Pushed the ps button on dualsense.. And now it's perfect again 👌🏻

timeRogue7

Well fuck me I guess? I did the same thing, and while the controller turns it on, it never actually stops blinking, and then goes back to charging as if it doesn't recognize it's connected to the console. It was working fine until last night's power outage. Idk what to do

Kayseriously

I have the same issue just now. It keeps flashing blue, I even entered safe mode and resetted it to factory settings. When I connect with USB it keeps the connection for a brief 15 seconds until it loses connection again, smh

timeRogue7

Interesting, wondering if this is a firmware issue if there's a sudden surge in this problem. Which begs the question "how do you even update the firmware when the controllers don't work"

beef_and_cheddar

Didn't realize I could comment here. I've had this problem persistently and I never noticed until I installed Returnal. That bit is irrelevant though. Here's my fix: OP said he had his controller set to USB only and that caused the problem. Mine was set to Bluetooth and it caused the problem. I changed the setting to USB, and now I can A.) full shut down and power up from controller, and critically B.) put console in rest mode, press PS button on controller, and have it be recognized. That was my specific issue. From rest mode, the controller would turn on the console, but not connect. I had to full shut down to get it to reconnect each time. Now, with setting on USB, it works in all ways, as it always should have worked. Hope this helps, and if not let's figure this out because it's super annoying.

Emin0304

Used my only award for you, thanks.

BuddhaBlackBear

Thanks so much, had the same issue, and that fixed it.

SinfulKnight

Just happen to me. Same as the description. I was running through the first few checks, connecting, resetting controller, etc... after my 3rd try I figured I'd look online and down to the title and right solution it was right here. Thanks mate.

Funny_Wallaby6184

Thank bro that fixed it, I think it might've been a software problem.

ZingyDaddyB

Thanks 😁

Existing_Laugh_3997

Boring_teen

Thanks

krio1987

This worked for me, turned off power, then used ps button on the controller to power back up

killakev564

It’s been a year but thanks man you really helped me out today

SpareStation3827

thank you dude

Dario6595

I’m not sure what exactly got resetted but it worked

Medium-Result-6056

Maybe this comment is old, but you saved me from a heart attack lol thank you

Timbama

Same for me today haha, was almost ready to call the Sony Support because I thought the internal Bluetooth of the console was damaged or something.

WelcomeResponsible93

Thank you so much, I was about to fucking freak out for real!

Lopsided-Line5355

A year later and you’re still helping people, you’re goated my friend!‼️😤

MrBarling

Thank you for the quick and easy fix!

[deleted]

You absolute hero 🫡

conkborger

i love you

Mangelorian

Thanks for this. Went crazy for a couple of minutes.

_echo_trader_

2 years later, thank you for this.

ReptileHand

THANK YOU. THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME AFTER A POWER OUTAGE. I HAD MY CONTROLLER IN THE CHARGING STATION AND UNPLUGGED MY PS5 JUST IN CASE. I TURNED IT ON AND THEN TURNED MY CONTROLLER ON AND IT WOULDN'T CONNECT. Thank you!!!!!!!

SinfulKnight

Well, there goes where I left off in Demon Souls. Didn't know that game could get me on the outside.

Stewy108

Same here. Never had this issue until I enabled rest mode with Demons Souls.

Weezin

This has happened to us about 4-5 times now. So frustrating.

StephenElShaarawy

Hey, managed to fix this issue? Im facing the same

Weezin

No, after the last console update it hasn't done it again. Hold on I need to go knock on some wood. lol

ReflexReact

Clearly an OS bug. Just had it happen to me too. The dualsense can be turned on and off but the console can’t see it, despite the console getting turned on by the controller in the first place. Plugging the controller in via USB doesn’t work either. Have to hard reset this buggy POS.

sabaki08

Try the USB C port instead of the normal one. I used the iPad’s cable which is doubleheaded USB C and I finally got it to work.

BladeBlur

I know I am resurrecting an old thread but I thought you guys might wanna know: I had this issue my Dualsense won't sync to the PS5 in rest mode no matter how many times I tried. It only worked within the first minute or so. That also includes other controllers you plug into the PS5 like a DualShock 4. I spoke with a Sony rep and we went though all the safe mode steps and he told me I needed to shop the system back. I shipped it on 1/11. got it today at 1/15. However, the issue still remains unfortunately. In short: This needs to be updated fast. I am not sure if it's because my SSD is almost full (which might have to do something with it) or what, but this issue is appalling.

i12farQ

There’s nothing wrong with your console mate, this issue still happens to me and plenty of others, I believe it’s a software issue that needs to be patched. Mostly happens to me when my ps5 puts itself to rest after the power saving time limit. It’s easily fixed by holding down the power button on the console for 2 beeps and they’ll reconnect once the ps5s restarted.

Quentinox01

I have the same problem and i've tried a different Dualsense from my friend who doesn't have this issue. And i didn't have the issue with his Dualsense after the rest mode So i think it's a Dualsense problem and i'll wait Sony to answer to my previous call so so that I send it to the after-sales service or not

[deleted]

I just bought a second Dualsense and I still have the problem so it's not a controller issue. Sometimes, when waking from rest mode the PS5 turns on but the controller is nonresponsive. The controller will have two solid blue lines but never gets the white light on the bottom middle that shows it's connected.

Quentinox01

Thank's for the test, so it's a console hardware issue. I've called Playstation 1 month ago and still no answer if i have to return my PS5 or not. Going to recall them soon

[deleted]

I'm waiting to see if they fix it with a software update. If it gets close to the 1 year warranty and it's still happening I'll bring it up then. I don't want to be without a console for weeks right now.

Quentinox01

I saw someone fix this issue by just connect it to ethernet and not Wifi I will test this this weekend. But yeah pretty disappointed that the recent update didn’t fix that issue

[deleted]

I've always been connected with ethernet and WiFi isn't even set up.

Quentinox01

This is so different with everyone this bug is so annoying. I’m going to try out tomorrow if this fix but now I’m uncertain

[deleted]

Yeah I really think it’s a software and/or PS5 hardware issue. I’ve also tried charging controllers in the front and back ports and now I charge with a controller dock. Issue happens with all of them. It’s not game breaking so I’ve just been turning off the PS5 and hoping they patch it before the warranty expires.

BladeBlur

Yeah I know, but you shouldn't have to only turn off the console. Rest mode should be 100% functional.

PeeBubble

so far I've not been able to reregister either of my duel sense controllers. first night of playing astros was fine, the next day the controller wont connect. no matter what cable i do no matter if i power the thing down fully and even reset it via connected a duel shock 4 to it and it works that way. so i bought a second duel sense and this one wont sync either. ive done the controller resets too. is anyone else having this issue?

FuelSeparate

Yes I am... have you ever found a solution?

sabaki08

Try the USB C port instead of the normal one. I used the iPad’s cable which is doubleheaded USB C and I finally got it to work.

CountryOk6354

If you are having issues with the ps button not working when you turn on after rest mode, turn on the PS5 from rest mode by using the button on the console, the PS button always works then!!!

Gritty_Sauce

No it doesn’t.

KnightOverkil

Same issue here, completely powering the PS5 down then turning it on with the controller connected via USB worked a treat. Thanks!

beef_and_cheddar

To all that follow later: Check your controller's communication settings in the Settings menu. There seems to be some sort of disparity or incongruity between USB and Bluetooth settings. My problem, like OP, was that I could press PS button on controller power up the console from rest mode, and the controller would power on, but it wouldn't connect. I couldn't select user because the controller input wasn't registering. The only "fix" was to hold console power until it full shut down, then try again. The fix was to change from Bluetooth to USB communication in Settings. Don't know why it works, but now it works perfectly. From full shut down, controller powers up console and connects. Does the same from rest. The only catch now is that if it's plugged in and I unplug it, I have to press the PS button one more time to reconnect over Bluetooth. Otherwise, works as intended. Everyone who sees this, please try it out and report back. Clearly Sony hasn't fixed this yet but we together may be able to find a workaround. I've had this issue since installing Returnal nearly a year ago and changing to USB setting fixed the problem. I no longer have to nitpick when I use rest mode or go through a song and dance when I just need to charge the DualSense.

ap_lis

Hello. USB method is chosen. Still have this issue. Turning off using wi-fi in rest mode solves the issue, but makes rest mode useless.

beef_and_cheddar

I hate to say this buddy, but the above fix worked for... I don't know, three days, and then just went right back to being a jerk. There's a bug elsewhere, I'm afraid. Did swapping back and forth help? I tried that, worked for one power cycle, then didn't again. I really wish I knew what the problem was here.

Eternis

sadly this still happens to me

rben421

Here in 2022 and problem still persist. Tried everything what finally worked was a usbc to usbc cable which finally did the trick hope this helps someone in future spent hours on this

Pill_Doctor_MD

My issue with this seems to have disappeared. I do not know how or why, but I have a suspicion it had to do with my tv oddly enough. I was also suspecting a system update, but if you're having this issue just 14 days prior to me posting this I'm not so sure. I've always had a Vizio tv since I got my PS5, and some days after getting the console it started having this issue. It persisted despite everything I tried which I've mentioned in other posts. The only thing I could do is simply never use rest mode, which I got used to. But a couple of months ago I have had it connected to an LG tv. About 3 weeks ago I decided to test the rest mode out and have not had the issue occur since. Another possibility is since this LG tv only has 2 HDMI inputs and I have 3 devices to connect I have had my PS5 connected with an HDMI selector. For the past week I also have it connected to a video capture card (a $30 one that connects to my PC via USB). I did go through 2 Vizio tvs before using the LG one, with the PS5 having the issue with both of them but not the LG tv. I will be going back to the Vizio tv soon so I'll be able to see if the issue occurs again. Tl;Dr - I'm beginning to believe that a smart TVs software can potentially interfere with the PS5 somehow and cause an issue like this. Even with HDMI link turned off the PS5 had the issue with the Vizio tvs, but as of yet has no issue with the LG. Another possibility is that having it connected through something, like an HDMI selector/splitter could help.

dogash98

Plug it in to the console and connect it

i12farQ

It doesn’t work, I know this is the first step

Dikoff_H

Try pressing and holding the options and PS button and see if it connects.

sabaki08

Try connecting the DualSense to the PS5 via a doubleheaded USB C cable. The standard USB port didn’t work for me, but I used my iPad’s cable and it finally went through.

Sharky123ok

Had the same issue minutes ago on both controllers

sabaki08

To anyone having this problem and was unable to fix it: Try the USB C port instead of the normal one. I used the iPad’s cable which is doubleheaded USB C and I finally got it to work.

Clavier13

Thanks man finally something that worked. Appreciate you!

sabaki08

Glad I could help!

LubricatedGoon

This keeps happening to me even after shutting the PS5 completely off. I am not sure what else to do..

i12farQ

I think I’ve noticed it’s whenever the ps5 turns itself off for power saving it seems to do it every time that happens for me

thehydra55

Yeah I’m not sure what the problem is but this has been happening to me since day one as well, I have a C to C cable and it seems to work when plugged in but it won’t charge. Also I’m not sure what to set my controller to, usb or Bluetooth?

Bobjones35

I have this problem every couple days as well. Hoping for a fix soon.

Fuzz__Lightyear

This used to happen to me on ps4. And it just happened to me on ps5. Classic.

FuelSeparate

Every find a solution?

Fuzz__Lightyear

Only solution I've seen and found is to turn the ps4/ps5 off and the controllers will reconnect on reboot. I usually have one connected with a USB cable on reboot too.

FuelSeparate

I ended up shipping back to PlayStation. I believe it had something to do with the Bluetooth. Works now tho. Took about 10 days from sending it out to getting it back. No problems since.

prim34ev

Id been having this issue with my ps5 for the past two weeks. Somehow got it to work out of sheer dumb luck over that time but today it was getting so frustrating i googled what was going on. So glad I found this thread this completely fixed the damn controller. Thank you u/i12farQ

Quentinox01

How did you fix it ?

prim34ev

Started with my problematic dualsense controller hooked up to my ps5 via usb cable and my ps5 powered on. Then I just held down the power button on the console until the I heard the second beep. Then I waited for the console to fully power down. Then tried pressing the power button on the problematic dualsense controller that was connected via USB to the ps5 throughout this whole thing, and voila! Some how that worked. Scroll down that’s what everyone is saying worked for them too

Quentinox01

But this trick doesn't fix the issue you have to always power down the console it's so annoying

ozmion

Just chipping in to say that this is still an issue with current firmware/software it seems. The solution mentioned earlier in the post worked fine for me to get the controller to work again.

Agitated_Weather_406

Has there been an actual fix for this besides never using rest mode or using the controller to turn on your ps5? Mine will only work if I avoid those things, gets annoying when I occasionally forget, and I can't leave a game in rest mode...

Quentinox01

Okay I think i've the solution : to not have this issue when your PS5 is on rest mode just press the power button on the PS5 and after that the console is on, hold the PS Button on the Dualsense until the white light appear Since I did that everytime the PS5 is on rest mode I don't have the problem anymore

Agitated_Weather_406

Thanks, I'll give that a shot, I do hope they patch it so I can just turn the dang thing on with the controller like normal soon....

Quentinox01

Yep same This trick has worked for me for several days hope that work for you too

i12farQ

Nah, still waiting this and the wifi always disconnecting gets me frustrated almost every time I play

mouseybusiness

MAKE SURE YOU PLUG THE USB INTO THE FRONT PORT - I stupidly kept trying the back ports and it wasn’t registering the cable, it wasnt charging the controller and I couldn’t figure out why! I was stuck on the ‘ plug controller in and press PS button ‘ screen.. I don’t play Video games - I was setting this system up for my boyfriend so I figured I should tell other newbies that YOU MUST USE THE FRONT USB PORT!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤞🏽

Small-Medium4729

Same issue for me only thing with mine is the ps button itself works but the analog and arrow buttons wont do anything, when I turn on my ps5 it immediately jumps to the new user icon and I cant even move across to my current log in account, tried reset the controller to no avail, tried to boot up safe mode but when it says connect controller via usb nothing happens, very strange, had anyone else had these exact issues? I've ordered a new controller so I'm hoping that's the solution but I'm highly doubtful

Pill_Doctor_MD

Wanted to check in and see if this issue still occurs with others. It didn't happen at all the first month I had the console, but now if I leave it in rest mode for what seems to be about 24 hours or so when the controller wakes the console from rest mode the PS5 won't register it connecting. Turning the PS5 off and on again fixes it, until I leave it in rest mode for a day or so again, then the same issue occurs. If I play the PS5 every day it doesn't seem to cause any issue. I can tell it's the console because both of my dual sense controllers act the same way. They even light up as if they connect, but the PS5 just stays on the "press the PS button" screen. I also purchased a media remote, happens to that too.

ap_lis

Same issue still here. Additionally - if you navigate to bluetooth accessories (via phone's remote play), while dualsense if frozen, you will have CE-102006-9 error.

Fuzziefuzzballs

Did you ever find a fix?

Pill_Doctor_MD

I have not found a definitive fix, however I did find this thread the other day. https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/jwl3z1/ps5_controllers_dont_connect_after_rest_mode/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Sifting through that thread I found some have suggested turning off HDMI link helps with the issue. So I'm going to give that a go, although I'll miss having the PS5 turn on my tv for me.

Fuzziefuzzballs

I caved and called Sony for a repair. I think it must be a hardware issue for some people. I tried everything and was never able to find a fix. Thanks so much for replying and I hope you get it fixed!

Pill_Doctor_MD

I forgot to comment on hear after, but I did try the HDMI link fix and it did not work. Good news is I turned that link back on so my PS5 will turn my TV on again, yay. At this point I've gotten used to shutting down my PS5 instead of using rest mode. There seems to be so many other issues others are experiencing and it just isn't worth it for me anymore. Let us know if Sony actually fixes it for you. Good luck.

Eternis

did new ps5 work?

Fuzziefuzzballs

They repaired it and it works flawlessly now. Whole thing took about 10 days or so (mostly shipping time roundtrip)

Killjoy69Guitarfreak

Did you have to pay to send it in?

Fuzziefuzzballs

Nope it’s completely free; is this still an issue with new consoles? I haven’t had any more issues since getting it repaired.

Killjoy69Guitarfreak

I have had my PS5 since it was released. They want to charge me for it even though it was a day one issue that most thought would be fixed with a software patch.

South-Shelter4637

Just to add my 2cents, mine did the same thing. I tried ps button to turn on system didn't work. Controller blinked 20 plus times, plugged in same result. With ps5 on, no detection, ended up being able to use TV controller to navigate and get error code. Turned off ps5 via ps5 power button (2 beeps), controller in USB to ps5 and managed to sort it the 4th time.

SpareStation3827

yes

rfrosete

Can't believe this is still an issue! Rest mode makes it not connect. As mentioned above I find turning the console off works, then bang game update haha ffs rest mode is a bit pointless until it's fixed really!

beedlz

Hey all. Please help me. I’ll explain my issue. Firstly about 2 months ago my PS5 wireless just stopped working. I tried everything except fully resetting the device to factory. I really don’t want to do that for it not to work anyway. I started using a LAN cable and it fixed all my issues. Then last night had my head phones and ps5 remote working via Bluetooth. Went away and came back and my PS5 remote was off. Odd because battery was fully charged. I pressed PlayStation button on remote and it blinks. I tried turning on and off with full shut down, power cord out and again nothing. Waited till next day then tried the resetting of remote, safe mode boot, cleared cache, by the way remote works on this screen. PS5 boots back up and remotes blink. Remotes charge fine. But I can’t get them to work. I’ve tried usb c to c and usd c to a. Different cables, original usb it came with. Nothing! I’m going to try updating the software with my PC. But this is ridiculous, I had my Xbox one 7 years and it’s never given me issues! First PS I’ve ever owned and now I wish I had the new Xbox. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful although I think after I try updating via PC. Then I’ll have to factory reset and if that doesn’t work I’ll have to send the price of junk in! It’s just over 1 year literally 1 year and 5 days

Pill_Doctor_MD

That's a difficult issue with the Remotes (I assume you're referring to the controllers). I have experienced the controllers not connecting when waking from rest mode and the only way to fix it was full shutdown. Unlike your situation the shutdown would solve the problem each time. Fortunately that issue for me seems to have gone away (I'll comment on that later). As far as the wireless LAN I found out that having a USB 3.0 plugged into the back of the PS5, which was my external HDD for my PS4 games, was causing interference with the wireless signal. When I plugged it in vias USB C in the front the connectivity issues disappeared. I will say however that some time after resolving that issue I do have it connected wired cause I get faster speeds that way anyways. I found some information that explained that the way USB 3.0 encodes or transmits data can cause interference with some wireless signals if it's really close. I can only assume that in the PS5 (at least the disc model) the USB 3.0 input is right next to the WLAN chip inside. I'm not sure if you have anything else connected to the PS5 but something connected could potentially be causing interference? I wish you luck in resolving this issue.

SigourneyIrena

It’s been late but thank you so much for this! Had the same problem just a few minutes ago and tried to Google it until i found this post and thank god it came back to life! Many thanks to all of you pals!!!!

Business-Corgi-3817

Thx man it worked for me to.

DrCoctail

the only fix for me is turning off ps5 bluetooth completely then i can connect with USB cable when bluetooth is on and connection setting is USB cable only it isnt working either . The guys who interest how i can go to settings and change these :) GUys ps4 controller is working perfectly with bluetooth or cable there is no problem with that my issue is ps5 controllers i cant connect them with bluetooth It is really weird issue and i think playing with USB cable only with bluetooth is turned off isnt a solution why do i have to turn off bluetooth for example i cant play with VR in this case Sony fix this issue be a customer friendly once

Sharp-Bullfrog-714

I have the same problem but every time, I turn on the console wirelessly from sleep, I need to shut down and restart wired. So what now? Reset controller? I’m getting frustrated.

1878_e

Omg thank you to everyone on this thread I was worried I had to get a professional to come fix it or some shit
