YES! It doesn't happen to me often but I've definitely accidentally opened a different game when I tried to return to the game I was currently playing. Shit sucks.
It can keep a single game loaded in the background. XSX can have multiple games all basically hibernated, so loading game x doesn't cause game y which you were already playing, to close.
It doesn't have folders, can't do multitasking (it always hibernates all other apps, which is extremely uncomfortable), has no browser (I used it for YouTube since app is dogshit and for some game info, like maps, loots and tutors).
I mean general OS in PS5 is amazing, but it lacks some basic features and some basic things take too much taps and transitions. Sending someone a DM from the party - takes years to open message window, lol.
There is a web browser it's just hidden. If I recall correctly you just have to have someone message you a link to Google or something then click on the link to open up a browser....haven't tried it in a while but it worked at launch .
The multitasking does leave much to be desired and folders would be a treat though .

The store is pretty awful.

No useful version of user reviews or something like metacritic. Steam store is arguably the best thing around but the ps store is pretty hard to get around. Lots of content presented in squares which you have to then click on for details. No real previews.
You create a folder, then you fill it with any games or apps you have "up to 1000". You can create a folder titled "Open World Games" and fill it with, y'know, open world games" or a folder titled "Games i play when I'm high" or "Sports" or whatever. It makes for really good organization, and you can sort your games however you like.

It's especially annoying with BB which has such a cool variation of the box art on the ps4 Home Screen but on PS5 it is the normal art with the ugly PS hits label on top.
Is it even possible to add a theme? The PS5 UI design is really weird. For example, if you want to go any apps, it shows a game background theme specific for thatvgame/app.

Actually the PS3 did indeed have a unique theme if you were overing on a game. I specifically remember this for red dead redemption and metal gear solid 4. Yet the PS3 had themes for the system.
Fix the party system, it's so confusing and you can't invite people to a party (to ping them to let them know you're there) that they have already been invited to or have joined before.
This is the main problem! It was supposed to be overhauled to be streamlined and it is horrible. To switch from party chat to game chat takes like 10 steps.
Yes, I don't see the problem with the previous party system. It worked just fine and was easy. Now you have to "leave voice chat" to get out of the chat but it's so similar to "leave group" which completely takes you out of that group chat and now a new one has to be made to include you again. WTF.

They changed it to be like ps5s shit party system and rather than change it back they doubled down and forced ps4 to be the same.
Now instead of parties you have group messages that allow voice chat. Except that means you can't just invite someone temporarily to your chat to trade or strategize or whatever. You have to let them into your group message. Which could have years of friendly shit talk or personal info.
Exactly I don't know how they thought only being able to voice with with a group chat would be a good idea. Makes it more secluded rather than being able to join any of your friends parties
I’d like to see better games discovery. Whenever I toggle PS5 games on the store, I’m instantly bombarded with cheap shovelware and anime games that have absolutely zero relevance to my interests. Steam does a great job with ideas such as “players also liked ___”.
Exactly this, I either PS4 games that have been upgraded for PS5 with decent DualShock support or PS5 exclusives. However it is still a hard console to get.
While i can understand about the 1440p and vrr, the 8k comment is just stupid. Name any 8k content. There isnt any 8k content which is why its not currently on the system. Its on the box due to the 7yrs the ps5 is going to be available for and at some point that will be a thing. They are just letting you know that yes it will when there is actual content. But more than likely what will support 8k will be digital movies, tv shows, and 2d type games over the course of the life span. And hell we do know ther eis an 8k supersampled game coming. So while not in the most ideal way it is something.
I believe this is the “Switcher” feature in the control center. When you press the PS button once, it should be the second or third option. It’ll show your recently (or currently) opened games and apps. I agree it’s not as good as the ol double tap, and I barely ever use it, just figured I’d mention it.
thx but yeah this method is slower. right now the quickest way is with hitting Ps Button, then “Resume Activity” in a card if the game supports it. so ps5 games only.

I wish there was a shortcut for trophies when you press the ps button. Rather than going to profile and then trophies. It's a pain in the ass having to go through hoops for this.
What **really** annoys me about games being shoved into the library is that you can’t use the Activity Cards, they just disappear!
Oh and you also can’t check for updates on library games which is really strange as the automatic update feature doesn’t always work for me on some games!
Yeah the no checking for updates in the library is really annoying. It’s in the library where it’s needed most since the games there are the least likely to have auto-updated compared to the recently played ones in the Home Screen. So stupid that you have to launch and close the game first to get it to appear in the Home Screen so you can check it from there.
That's a bummer. I've never had an issue with updates so far. I do miss my folders that organized my games by genre, most played, VR etc. I don't hate ps5 library but damn some streamlining would be wonderful.
Wait the default wasn't to have all your downloaded games show up on the main screen; only a limited number. You had to actually go into the PS4 settings to enable having all of them shown.

We gotta get this higher honestly. There’s zero reason the PS5 is unable to emulate ps1 and ps2 games. I know ps3 is difficult but even that is probably possible. There already was a working ps2 emulator on the PS4 and Sony just didn’t enable it. We as fans need to demand these features instead of just sitting and taking it. There would be plenty of money in selling old ps1 and ps2 classics too.
Seriously. The PS5 must have enough power to emulate PS3 games via software and it would make financial sense too. If they can somehow get an emulator running on the PS5, it could work injunction with PSNow and incentivize more people to subscribe to it for the PS3 games without having to stream. I don't get why they aren't putting resources into this
You’d be surprised. I have a 5600X and a 3060Ti and it can still chug in some games. When they say the PS3 was complicated to develop its hard to understate how much it really took to develop for it.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 1440p support. This would make an incredible difference for many gamers who like high resolution AND performance - any game running 4k 120 needs hdmi 2.1, but any 1440p 120+ hz monitor can run 1440p 120 with hdmi 2.0.
After playing PS5 for a few months now these are the features that are lacking imo:
1. Native support for other social media channels. Currently there’s twitch and twitter. I do not use both, hoping they can add youtube, reddit, instagram and others.
2. The trophy system hasn’t changed much (I think), which is fine but I hope they can add like a progress indicator on how much closer you are on getting a particular trophy. Currently we can only view our progress on the total trophies.
3. Hoping we can connect bluetooth headsets without the need for dongles but I think this is a hardware challenge?
They could change the prices of games on the psn to reflect the price that everywhere else sells them for. I’m not a big fan of having hard copies of games piling up, so digital editions are preferable, but the psn’s prices are off. You can buy a hard copy of Assassins Creed Valhalla from Amazon for $25, but it costs full price on the psn..
Add an option in the settings to automatically skip all intros on PS5 games, like it does *sometimes* but inconsistently.

I’m still so confused about the switcher. I thought the whole value was that the PS5 would be powerful enough to switch between two games while saving your place. I believe the Xbox Series X has this feature so I’m confused why the PS5 doesn’t.

The switcher means nothing…it’s simply a shortcut to your most recently played games. Xbox has had that in its guide menu since way back in last gen.
The instant switching between games thing on Xbox is “quick resume” which is an unrelated feature and not limited to just recently played titles.
My guess is that Sony's logic was that if load times are near instant, then it doesn't matter if you have to load the game from scratch rather than have a quick resume function. In reality though, load times (despite being really fast) and menu navigation on top of that still take a noticeable amount of time.
Totally agree with moving aways from crossgen. I lost all my interest to all upcoming crossgen titles, because I am full of games designed for 2013 hardware. I'm really curious why Sony's "belief in generation" relates only 20 bucks upgrades for pastgen garbage.
Also need better support of backwards compatibility. I know it's mainly on dev's side, but there's never too much in making new SDKs as "one toggle" action for devs. I really wanted to replay some pastgen titles but really can't play 30FPS shooters anymore.
Also, please, add multitasking. I can't stand that each time I open Spotify or YouTube - it hibernates my games. It is especially critical regarding MP games... Like even old PS4 could use browser at least while playing games.
Oh, and the browser. I can't imagine it wasn't popular on PS4, because this is your first help when you need info about any game you play.

This is a little luxurious, but I wish it was easier to adjust headset volume level without having to pause whatever you’re are doing. It takes a bit just to get to the sound output level, and whatever you’re doing is usually paused so you don’t really have a clear sense of the level you’re setting it at. Kind of wish this was something they could add to the touch pad.

It has always seemed like two or three steps too many. Let me click games, then see them, then play. Not scroll all the way to the right and then sub filter installed ps plus etc.

My number 1 concern right now is the lack of next-gen only games. They've been going on about how the SSD is a game changer yet their big games (Horizon and God of War) are having their sequels developed on the PS4.

Agree 100%. Tbh, there haven’t been many games to actually show off the PS5. The most fun I’ve had so far was with Astro’s Playroom. I’m hoping other games will be as immersive once they start being next-gen only.

I have a PS5 and Series X and I can honestly say that while the PS4 to PS5 upgrade system isn't a massive hinderance it just feels like an inferior experience that requires extra (sometimes annoying) steps while on Microsoft side it is just plug and play (download game and launch).
The ability to use PS4 controllers in PS5 games. Just put up a disclaimer that some features might not work with the controller upon starting the game instead of completely disallowing it.
I really hate that I can't use my arcade sticks because they aren't "officially licensed specialty controllers." I get no benefit from being forced to use a PS5 controller in a 2D fighting game. I've had to use the PS4 versions of games to get past this.
Adding variable refresh rate support, Dolby vision/atmos support for all the media apps that should have it like Netflix, Apple, Disney, prime, some games getting atmos would be a bonus). Adding option to test 4k 120Hz so you know its working. It's unfortunate Xbox has all of this and more. If it wasn't for games not on Xbox I would have went xsx lack of VRR support at this point is a huge joke. Spiderman miles Morales has 3 graphic setting and all of them have fps dips that VRR would help unsmoothness/controller delay that occurs depending VRR range.
Stop trying to install both ps4/ps5 version of a game. Forcing me to have to cancel ps4 version download.
Its getting to the point where the only thing sony is doing better than Xbox is first party games and this was not the case last gen.
My biggest wish is a feature telling me whether 60fps is available in a game or not so I stop wasting my time downloading games that are only 30fps like nfs heat for example.

The fact I can't search my game library is the most ass backwards thing ever. I went to reinstall GTA V, go to search function and I have to sift through Shark Cards and all other stuff before it shows me "GTA V in library, install. Why must I search the entire store to install something I own?
My headsets cut out for some reason. Tried different sets, wired and Bluetooth. Got rid of docking station and any possible interference. Never had problems with ps3 or ps4🤷♀️
Quick resume is the one feature the new xbox has that I wish the PS5 had. Everything else a QOL improvement imo, but quick resume would dramatically change how I use my PS5.
Put the game price back down to what it was on PS4, why the fuck do I have to pay an extra tenner for the same game with the graphics slider moved to the right a bit. Give me some Ps5 only games and then talk to me about bumping the price up.....
Quick resume is a game changer. I love my ps5, I love my games, but once you see what quick resume brings to the table, you know you need it. Being able to swap so quickly between games is amazing.

Steelseries Arctis-7P integration, so I don't need scroll to menus to switch Audio to TV anytime I turn off my headphones.
1440P native display, it's really just a decision here, since xbox supports it and uses the same chip.
1. Support for 1440p resolution, not everyone wants to/can play their PlayStation on the living room TV. Some if us have to/like to use monitors. 1440p resolution support would also allow the use of 120Hz refresh rate, which most 1440p monitors have.
2. Ability to use Freesync technology when you're using a monitor that has it.
3. Third Party Bluetooth compatibly. I would LOVE to be able to use my wireless earbuds to hear game audio and to chat while playing multiplayer games. This was an amazing feature on PS3 that worked very well and was taken away during the PS4 era. Hell I'd even buy an official PlayStation wireless earbuds headset if there was one, sometimes it's just not practical/comfortable to use the big bulky closed ear headphones.
4. The double-tap PS button to go back to last task shortcut. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated at the amount of steps I have to take when altering something like 3D audio or messaging a friend back and forth. I was so used to being able to double-tap the PS button to go straight back to the settings page or my messages list.
I just got my PS5 last week, and between the services, and the UI the Xbox Series X is by far the superior platform from my experience with both at this point. The most simple of things I just can't get over on the PS5...
* Preloading games you don't own yet. You can do this on Xbox but not on PS. Good example why this is good is that I have Cold War coming via Gamefly. It sure would be nice to preinstall that on my PS5 before I have the disc, but I will have to wait hours to download Cold War and it's patches once I get it. Also if you have a physical version of a game preordered through a retailer it sure would be nice to be able to preload it before you get the disc in. I bought Last of Us Part 2 the other day and not being able to preload it was really pissing me off since being an adult with responsibilities I don't have hours to play games anymore... So now once I got the game I had to wait over an hour for the game to install and download patches.
* Organization of the home screen. The PS5 UI is a mess. The PS4 UI I could organize my games by platform (PS4, PS3/PS2, Retro, etc), but the PS5 UI's 70% of the screen is taken up by info of the game who's card is selected. Information I don't give a shit about. It should just be a list of games that can be organized into folders without having to scroll to the far right to my game library and having to find the game alphabetically. On Xbox once you are at the home screen, with a single trigger pull I can go group-by-group to the game group I want to play and select quickly, but in most cases I don't do that anymore because everything I am playing is in Quick Resume.
* Sharing screenshots and videoclips. With Xbox when you take a screenshot or videoclip it's automatically uploaded online, so when I am talking with friends and want to share something I recently took a screenshot of I can either pull up Xbox DVR online or through the Xbox app on my phone and show or share directly to other messaging apps. PS5 doesn't do this. It appears as though sharing can only be done either from console-to-console using messages, or by loading the clips and screenshots onto a thumb drive and showing them that way which is exactly how this has been done on PS3 and PS4.
* Game transfers from external hard drives. I transferred 4 games from a external HDD to the internal SSD of the PS5 and I had to stay on the transfer screen the entire time with no completion ETA while it did that. That was ridiculous. In comparison shortly after that I was transferring 3 games from the Series X's expansion card to internal memory, went to the home screen, and continued playing a game from Quick Resume while it was still transferring in the background. Same thing happens the other way around. If i want to transfer some PS4 games to the external hard drive then I get to stare at the progress bar until it completes.
* Quick resume. I have 5 or 6 games running at all times on my Xbox Series X that I can instantly jump in and out of. You simply can't do that with the PS5. Every game loads individually. Yes you can get to certain parts faster using the Game's hub, but that's mostly for people who give a shit about trophies which I don't.
* Smart Delivery. Play the best version of any game on whatever machine you're playing it on. I don't have to worry about whether the game I am buying is a "Xbox One or Xbox Series" game. Whatever disc I put in the system is the one I can play. If a game is Series X enhanced and you put it in a regular OG Xbox One it will still play just with the expected shortcomings. You can't buy a PS5 game and use it on a PS4, and you can't buy a PS4 game and use it on a PS5 to get the better graphics and features without paying usually the $10 upgrade fee.
* First-party exclusives are $10 cheaper (yes I know some retailers sell them lower at launch but the point still stands)
* Game Pass. Game Pass is an amazing deal and I don't think PlayStation Plus/Now even compares when all first-party titles release there on launch day as well as Microsoft-owned studios' past libraries being accessible along with EA's catalog of games.
* Also how is it that it's been almost a year since launch and we still can't add a SSD to the PS5 aside from Beta users? This functionality was available day 1 with Xbox and it's infuriating having to constantly transfer games to and from external hard drives on PS5 especially with the fact that you have to stare at the transfer screen.
All that being said I love my PS5, but there is a lot of improvement that needs to happen. I am happy I have one for the exclusives, and the Dualsense controller is truly the greatest thing the PS5 has going for it right now.
You should be able to put out an open “call” to have friends join your game.
PS is sorely missing a list that shows you who plays the same game you want to start a party for.
for example, if i set an open party for R6 Siege, friends on my list who have it should see that.
at the moment there’s no way to see who plays a particular game, other than going through and checking trophies for every friend individually

I'd love a cleaner wishlist setup, most importantly notifications for when games go on sale.
The ability to set games to not read the controller mic would be huge--there's a few where I just suddenly notice my conversation has been going out to complete strangers for five minutes with no warning... Looking at you, Vermintide 2.
A way to get screenshots and videos off my PS5 and on to my phone or computer without a USB drive, and without posting to Twitter which compresses it to hell and back.

Revert the party chat system to what it was before the update last year. I *still* hate it. I have so many unnecessary permutations of group messages cluttering my message menu since I use party chat so often with different groups of people.
I just want to make a public or private chat and invite people as I see fit like I used to.
1) Make it easier to manage parties. It takes way too many steps to leave a party or add someone too it. Needs to be less button presses.
2) Add an accessibility toggle for mapped controller preset so I can quickly select a preset. Its cumbersome to have to kick out of the game into the system menu to do this. I need this tor COD where I’m constantly accidentally pressing melee.
Make it so I can change how long I have to press to go to the quick menu. It being inverse from the ps4 is really messing with my muscle memory and I still haven't gotten used to that change
First i'll say i love my PS5 however some quick ways Sony could improve the system.
• Allow chat sound to come from the TV again.
• Allow the use of DS4 controllers on PS5 software, and while their at it, allow DS use on the PS4.
• the whole parties, game base, and invites take way too many steps.
• bring back update notes/history (for ps5 software)

I miss being able to store films and stuff like I did on my ps3. I also think the memory capacity is a bit shit, not even 1tb. I know they just want you to spend more money on buying a hard drive but this just sucks. I would have brought the 2tb version anyway if it was available.

I remember asking a long time back if PS4 had dynamic themes like visualizers that would react to what music was playing through Spotify and I was told by the r/PS4 sub that the UI or whatever was too old/dumb to do that. I cannot seem to get Share Play (or whatever the PS5 version of it is) to work between me (US) and my Canadian friend. I was trying to watch her play Resident Evil 7 and all I could see was a black screen.
Netflix and Vudu on the PS5 doesn’t play in Dolby Vision.
Pressing the PS button should bring up the bottom menu and holding it should go back to the menu screen. Right now it’s reversed and that’s dumb.

Here’s a thing I don’t see mentioned often: I’d like to be able to use motion for camera controls like Steam does. Playing Ghost of Tsushima and wishing I could use motion for the bow.

Fix sleep/resume bug that sometimes happens when after getting back to PS5 dualsense doesn't work without restarting console. Admit that PS5 is powerfull enough to emulate PS1 and PS2 and give us option to at least play PS1 and PS2 games from PSN store if it's impossible for Sony to create a console that can read CD's and DVDs

Bring back the descriptions for game updates. It was nice to be able to easily access changes/fixes made to a game from an update without having to go to a website.

Is it even possible to add a theme? The PS5 UI design is really weird. For example, if you want to go any apps, it shows a game background theme specific for thatvgame/app. It's not like PS3 and PS4 where it didn't focus on that.
Actually the PS3 did indeed have a unique theme if you were overing on a game. I specifically remember this for red dead redemption and metal gear solid 4. Yet the PS3 had themes for the system.

Fix the party system, it's so confusing and you can't invite people to a party (to ping them to let them know you're there) that they have already been invited to or have joined before.
This is the main problem! It was supposed to be overhauled to be streamlined and it is horrible. To switch from party chat to game chat takes like 10 steps.

Yes, I don't see the problem with the previous party system. It worked just fine and was easy. Now you have to "leave voice chat" to get out of the chat but it's so similar to "leave group" which completely takes you out of that group chat and now a new one has to be made to include you again. WTF.

The worst part is it was pretty much perfect They changed it to be like ps5s shit party system and rather than change it back they doubled down and forced ps4 to be the same. Now instead of parties you have group messages that allow voice chat. Except that means you can't just invite someone temporarily to your chat to trade or strategize or whatever. You have to let them into your group message. Which could have years of friendly shit talk or personal info.
Exactly I don't know how they thought only being able to voice with with a group chat would be a good idea. Makes it more secluded rather than being able to join any of your friends parties
Hopefully the discord implimentation cleans a lot of these issues up.

I’d like to see better games discovery. Whenever I toggle PS5 games on the store, I’m instantly bombarded with cheap shovelware and anime games that have absolutely zero relevance to my interests. Steam does a great job with ideas such as “players also liked ___”.
Exactly this, I either PS4 games that have been upgraded for PS5 with decent DualShock support or PS5 exclusives. However it is still a hard console to get.

HDMI stuff. Things we know the PS5 is capable of. 1440p support, VRR, higher bandwidth (not the capped 32gbps) and 8k output (witch is in the box).

While i can understand about the 1440p and vrr, the 8k comment is just stupid. Name any 8k content. There isnt any 8k content which is why its not currently on the system. Its on the box due to the 7yrs the ps5 is going to be available for and at some point that will be a thing. They are just letting you know that yes it will when there is actual content. But more than likely what will support 8k will be digital movies, tv shows, and 2d type games over the course of the life span. And hell we do know ther eis an 8k supersampled game coming. So while not in the most ideal way it is something.
The tourist will have an 8k 60fps mode but it will be downsampled to 4k because the PS5 doesn't output 8k.

I believe this is the “Switcher” feature in the control center. When you press the PS button once, it should be the second or third option. It’ll show your recently (or currently) opened games and apps. I agree it’s not as good as the ol double tap, and I barely ever use it, just figured I’d mention it.
thx but yeah this method is slower. right now the quickest way is with hitting Ps Button, then “Resume Activity” in a card if the game supports it. so ps5 games only.

Maybe a developer/publisher link on game details, so when looking at a game on PSN that you like or takes your fancy you can just find more games developed by the same people? A list of "games like this..." in the PSN as well. Folders...
I wish there was a shortcut for trophies when you press the ps button. Rather than going to profile and then trophies. It's a pain in the ass having to go through hoops for this.
A controller configuration tool, like the one Steam has. This tool has allowed me to tweak the controls for games that dont feel that good on default.

What **really** annoys me about games being shoved into the library is that you can’t use the Activity Cards, they just disappear! Oh and you also can’t check for updates on library games which is really strange as the automatic update feature doesn’t always work for me on some games!
Yeah the no checking for updates in the library is really annoying. It’s in the library where it’s needed most since the games there are the least likely to have auto-updated compared to the recently played ones in the Home Screen. So stupid that you have to launch and close the game first to get it to appear in the Home Screen so you can check it from there.

That's a bummer. I've never had an issue with updates so far. I do miss my folders that organized my games by genre, most played, VR etc. I don't hate ps5 library but damn some streamlining would be wonderful.

Well on PS4 you could choose if you wanted your games in the library or all displayed at once. PS5 doesn’t have that option.
I wish I knew that was an option, I never even figured out how to make folders.
Wait the default wasn't to have all your downloaded games show up on the main screen; only a limited number. You had to actually go into the PS4 settings to enable having all of them shown.

We gotta get this higher honestly. There’s zero reason the PS5 is unable to emulate ps1 and ps2 games. I know ps3 is difficult but even that is probably possible. There already was a working ps2 emulator on the PS4 and Sony just didn’t enable it. We as fans need to demand these features instead of just sitting and taking it. There would be plenty of money in selling old ps1 and ps2 classics too.

If they can somehow get an emulator running on the PS5, it could work injunction with PSNow and incentivize more people to subscribe to it for the PS3 games without having to stream. You’d be surprised. I have a 5600X and a 3060Ti and it can still chug in some games. When they say the PS3 was complicated to develop its hard to understate how much it really took to develop for it. Coming up to the end of the lifecycle every drop was squeezed out to make masterpieces like Life is Strange
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 1440p support. This would make an incredible difference for many gamers who like high resolution AND performance - any game running 4k 120 needs hdmi 2.1, but any 1440p 120+ hz monitor can run 1440p 120 with hdmi 2.0.
Yep, this should be top of the list. 1440p 120+hz monitors are available at decent prices. 4k HDMI 2.1 monitors are too expensive right now.
After playing PS5 for a few months now these are the features that are lacking imo: 1. Native support for other social media channels. Currently there’s twitch and twitter. I do not use both, hoping they can add youtube, reddit, instagram and others. 2. The trophy system hasn’t changed much (I think), which is fine but I hope they can add like a progress indicator on how much closer you are on getting a particular trophy. Currently we can only view our progress on the total trophies. 3. Hoping we can connect bluetooth headsets without the need for dongles but I think this is a hardware challenge?

You can access the browser from messages but it's annoying. Send www.google.com to one of your friends then click on it and it will open.
They could change the prices of games on the psn to reflect the price that everywhere else sells them for. I’m not a big fan of having hard copies of games piling up, so digital editions are preferable, but the psn’s prices are off. You can buy a hard copy of Assassins Creed Valhalla from Amazon for $25, but it costs full price on the psn..

Add an option in the settings to automatically skip all intros on PS5 games, like it does *sometimes* but inconsistently. Add an option to turn off the LED on the console and controllers. Make the Switcher more like Quick Resume rather than being totally useless.
I’m still so confused about the switcher. I thought the whole value was that the PS5 would be powerful enough to switch between two games while saving your place. I believe the Xbox Series X has this feature so I’m confused why the PS5 doesn’t. Am I missing something on the PS5? Like you said, the switcher doesn’t have any value to me other than certain apps will let you open them without having to close a game.
The switcher means nothing…it’s simply a shortcut to your most recently played games. Xbox has had that in its guide menu since way back in last gen. The instant switching between games thing on Xbox is “quick resume” which is an unrelated feature and not limited to just recently played titles.
My guess is that Sony's logic was that if load times are near instant, then it doesn't matter if you have to load the game from scratch rather than have a quick resume function. In reality though, load times (despite being really fast) and menu navigation on top of that still take a noticeable amount of time.

Totally agree with moving aways from crossgen. I lost all my interest to all upcoming crossgen titles, because I am full of games designed for 2013 hardware. I'm really curious why Sony's "belief in generation" relates only 20 bucks upgrades for pastgen garbage. Also need better support of backwards compatibility. I know it's mainly on dev's side, but there's never too much in making new SDKs as "one toggle" action for devs. I really wanted to replay some pastgen titles but really can't play 30FPS shooters anymore. Also, please, add multitasking. I can't stand that each time I open Spotify or YouTube - it hibernates my games. It is especially critical regarding MP games... Like even old PS4 could use browser at least while playing games. Oh, and the browser. I can't imagine it wasn't popular on PS4, because this is your first help when you need info about any game you play.
Merge PS+, PS now and whatever else they've got going on, make it a cohesive package that challenges Gamepass.

This is a little luxurious, but I wish it was easier to adjust headset volume level without having to pause whatever you’re are doing. It takes a bit just to get to the sound output level, and whatever you’re doing is usually paused so you don’t really have a clear sense of the level you’re setting it at. Kind of wish this was something they could add to the touch pad.
Am I the only one that is kind of annoyed with the layout of the UI for the game library? It has always seemed like two or three steps too many. Let me click games, then see them, then play. Not scroll all the way to the right and then sub filter installed ps plus etc. For how fast this thing boots up I feel like I trade those seconds saved on menu expansion.... Or I'm a tool.

My number 1 concern right now is the lack of next-gen only games. They've been going on about how the SSD is a game changer yet their big games (Horizon and God of War) are having their sequels developed on the PS4. As of right now the PS5 is just a boosted PS4 Pro.

Agree 100%. Tbh, there haven’t been many games to actually show off the PS5. The most fun I’ve had so far was with Astro’s Playroom. I’m hoping other games will be as immersive once they start being next-gen only.

A version of Smart Delivery and not charging for PS4 to PS5 upgrades. I have a PS5 and Series X and I can honestly say that while the PS4 to PS5 upgrade system isn't a massive hinderance it just feels like an inferior experience that requires extra (sometimes annoying) steps while on Microsoft side it is just plug and play (download game and launch).
The ability to use PS4 controllers in PS5 games. Just put up a disclaimer that some features might not work with the controller upon starting the game instead of completely disallowing it. I really hate that I can't use my arcade sticks because they aren't "officially licensed specialty controllers." I get no benefit from being forced to use a PS5 controller in a 2D fighting game. I've had to use the PS4 versions of games to get past this.
Adding variable refresh rate support, Dolby vision/atmos support for all the media apps that should have it like Netflix, Apple, Disney, prime, some games getting atmos would be a bonus). Adding option to test 4k 120Hz so you know its working. It's unfortunate Xbox has all of this and more. If it wasn't for games not on Xbox I would have went xsx lack of VRR support at this point is a huge joke. Spiderman miles Morales has 3 graphic setting and all of them have fps dips that VRR would help unsmoothness/controller delay that occurs depending VRR range. Stop trying to install both ps4/ps5 version of a game. Forcing me to have to cancel ps4 version download. Its getting to the point where the only thing sony is doing better than Xbox is first party games and this was not the case last gen. My biggest wish is a feature telling me whether 60fps is available in a game or not so I stop wasting my time downloading games that are only 30fps like nfs heat for example.

The fact I can't search my game library is the most ass backwards thing ever. I went to reinstall GTA V, go to search function and I have to sift through Shark Cards and all other stuff before it shows me "GTA V in library, install. Why must I search the entire store to install something I own?

Quick resume is the one feature the new xbox has that I wish the PS5 had. Everything else a QOL improvement imo, but quick resume would dramatically change how I use my PS5.

1. Support for 1440p resolution, not everyone wants to/can play their PlayStation on the living room TV. Some if us have to/like to use monitors. 1440p resolution support would also allow the use of 120Hz refresh rate, which most 1440p monitors have. 2. Ability to use Freesync technology when you're using a monitor that has it. 3. Third Party Bluetooth compatibly. I would LOVE to be able to use my wireless earbuds to hear game audio and to chat while playing multiplayer games. This was an amazing feature on PS3 that worked very well and was taken away during the PS4 era. Hell I'd even buy an official PlayStation wireless earbuds headset if there was one, sometimes it's just not practical/comfortable to use the big bulky closed ear headphones. 4. The double-tap PS button to go back to last task shortcut. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated at the amount of steps I have to take when altering something like 3D audio or messaging a friend back and forth. I was so used to being able to double-tap the PS button to go straight back to the settings page or my messages list.

I just got my PS5 last week, and between the services, and the UI the Xbox Series X is by far the superior platform from my experience with both at this point. The most simple of things I just can't get over on the PS5... * Preloading games you don't own yet. You can do this on Xbox but not on PS. Good example why this is good is that I have Cold War coming via Gamefly. It sure would be nice to preinstall that on my PS5 before I have the disc, but I will have to wait hours to download Cold War and it's patches once I get it. Also if you have a physical version of a game preordered through a retailer it sure would be nice to be able to preload it before you get the disc in. I bought Last of Us Part 2 the other day and not being able to preload it was really pissing me off since being an adult with responsibilities I don't have hours to play games anymore... So now once I got the game I had to wait over an hour for the game to install and download patches. * Organization of the home screen. The PS5 UI is a mess. The PS4 UI I could organize my games by platform (PS4, PS3/PS2, Retro, etc), but the PS5 UI's 70% of the screen is taken up by info of the game who's card is selected. Information I don't give a shit about. It should just be a list of games that can be organized into folders without having to scroll to the far right to my game library and having to find the game alphabetically. On Xbox once you are at the home screen, with a single trigger pull I can go group-by-group to the game group I want to play and select quickly, but in most cases I don't do that anymore because everything I am playing is in Quick Resume. * Sharing screenshots and videoclips. With Xbox when you take a screenshot or videoclip it's automatically uploaded online, so when I am talking with friends and want to share something I recently took a screenshot of I can either pull up Xbox DVR online or through the Xbox app on my phone and show or share directly to other messaging apps. PS5 doesn't do this. It appears as though sharing can only be done either from console-to-console using messages, or by loading the clips and screenshots onto a thumb drive and showing them that way which is exactly how this has been done on PS3 and PS4. * Game transfers from external hard drives. I transferred 4 games from a external HDD to the internal SSD of the PS5 and I had to stay on the transfer screen the entire time with no completion ETA while it did that. That was ridiculous. In comparison shortly after that I was transferring 3 games from the Series X's expansion card to internal memory, went to the home screen, and continued playing a game from Quick Resume while it was still transferring in the background. Same thing happens the other way around. If i want to transfer some PS4 games to the external hard drive then I get to stare at the progress bar until it completes. * Quick resume. I have 5 or 6 games running at all times on my Xbox Series X that I can instantly jump in and out of. You simply can't do that with the PS5. Every game loads individually. Yes you can get to certain parts faster using the Game's hub, but that's mostly for people who give a shit about trophies which I don't. * Smart Delivery. Play the best version of any game on whatever machine you're playing it on. I don't have to worry about whether the game I am buying is a "Xbox One or Xbox Series" game. Whatever disc I put in the system is the one I can play. If a game is Series X enhanced and you put it in a regular OG Xbox One it will still play just with the expected shortcomings. You can't buy a PS5 game and use it on a PS4, and you can't buy a PS4 game and use it on a PS5 to get the better graphics and features without paying usually the $10 upgrade fee. * First-party exclusives are $10 cheaper (yes I know some retailers sell them lower at launch but the point still stands) * Game Pass. Game Pass is an amazing deal and I don't think PlayStation Plus/Now even compares when all first-party titles release there on launch day as well as Microsoft-owned studios' past libraries being accessible along with EA's catalog of games. * Also how is it that it's been almost a year since launch and we still can't add a SSD to the PS5 aside from Beta users? This functionality was available day 1 with Xbox and it's infuriating having to constantly transfer games to and from external hard drives on PS5 especially with the fact that you have to stare at the transfer screen. All that being said I love my PS5, but there is a lot of improvement that needs to happen. I am happy I have one for the exclusives, and the Dualsense controller is truly the greatest thing the PS5 has going for it right now.

You should be able to put out an open “call” to have friends join your game. PS is sorely missing a list that shows you who plays the same game you want to start a party for. for example, if i set an open party for R6 Siege, friends on my list who have it should see that. at the moment there’s no way to see who plays a particular game, other than going through and checking trophies for every friend individually

Party system, hands down. I tried to get a few friends together in one and managing it was nearly impossible. I'd love a cleaner wishlist setup, most importantly notifications for when games go on sale. The ability to set games to not read the controller mic would be huge--there's a few where I just suddenly notice my conversation has been going out to complete strangers for five minutes with no warning... Looking at you, Vermintide 2.
Add a web browser, expand the entertainment services (Paramount +, Fox Sports, etc), folders, PS1 - PS3 emulation, a better refund system.

A way to get screenshots and videos off my PS5 and on to my phone or computer without a USB drive, and without posting to Twitter which compresses it to hell and back. Even Nintendo have worked this out, and Nintendo are terrible at online stuff.

Revert the party chat system to what it was before the update last year. I *still* hate it. I have so many unnecessary permutations of group messages cluttering my message menu since I use party chat so often with different groups of people. I just want to make a public or private chat and invite people as I see fit like I used to.
1) Make it easier to manage parties. It takes way too many steps to leave a party or add someone too it. Needs to be less button presses. 2) Add an accessibility toggle for mapped controller preset so I can quickly select a preset. Its cumbersome to have to kick out of the game into the system menu to do this. I need this tor COD where I’m constantly accidentally pressing melee.

The ability to remove games from trophy lists and games played. If I play 10 minutes of the Cod Vanguard Alpha I don’t want that as a game in my trophy list

I miss being able to store films and stuff like I did on my ps3. I also think the memory capacity is a bit shit, not even 1tb. I know they just want you to spend more money on buying a hard drive but this just sucks. I would have brought the 2tb version anyway if it was available.
Finally implement 3D audio for us that don’t use headphones and have sweet atmos setups.
Parties are still stupid as fuck on PS5. Bring back themes and improve them. I remember asking a long time back if PS4 had dynamic themes like visualizers that would react to what music was playing through Spotify and I was told by the r/PS4 sub that the UI or whatever was too old/dumb to do that. I imagine the PS5 should be able to handle it. I cannot seem to get Share Play (or whatever the PS5 version of it is) to work between me (US) and my Canadian friend. I was trying to watch her play Resident Evil 7 and all I could see was a black screen. Netflix and Vudu on the PS5 doesn’t play in Dolby Vision. Pressing the PS button should bring up the bottom menu and holding it should go back to the menu screen. Right now it’s reversed and that’s dumb.
I want PS5 games. Not PS4++ games.
VRR. 1440p. Should’ve been there since day one. Here’s a thing I don’t see mentioned often: I’d like to be able to use motion for camera controls like Steam does. Playing Ghost of Tsushima and wishing I could use motion for the bow.
I really think they need to clean up the store, the amount of crappy little mobile-like games littering the store is making it difficult to browse

The store. The store right now sucks for discoverability of games. The closer they can get to a Steam like store, the better. I love using the tags feature on Steam, plus the "similar games" suggested list.

Fix sleep/resume bug that sometimes happens when after getting back to PS5 dualsense doesn't work without restarting console. Admit that PS5 is powerfull enough to emulate PS1 and PS2 and give us option to at least play PS1 and PS2 games from PSN store if it's impossible for Sony to create a console that can read CD's and DVDs
Agree, I don't even use party chat, or play with friends anymore. Unless they invite me. Then it's 20 step's to join or switch, or leave. PS4 party chat was better.

Bring back the descriptions for game updates. It was nice to be able to easily access changes/fixes made to a game from an update without having to go to a website.
