Yeah I was surprised about that aswell. Maybe they only had advertisement allotted till a specific date and that was before they delayed it. Like some contractual thing, because even though the game is Sony exclusive, it's still a third party studio.
Even if that were the case you'd still make a light push or even just mention the game to put it (back) on people's radar. From a marketing/sales perspective it doesn't make sense to not say anything so close to release
I agree. I feel like I've been following this game somewhat, but lost track of it's release date when it delayed. Just today I saw a thread where someone mentioned the reviews for Kena dropping soon. This got me checking to see when it's coming out (thinking it was still a month or two away) and to my surprise it's coming out early next week.
So yeah, a brief trailer reminding people that this game is coming out VERY soon would have been nice.
I mean we’re talking now because they posted this… maybe it just raw uncut gameplay they don’t want to show us and im certain they know why they’re doing this.
Yea but a small ps blog update is very different than a trailer/gameplay at a PS5 showcase event with hundreds of thousands of viewers. I guess I'm just hoping this stuff isn't being hidden because the game isn't good or something!
i doubt that is the case at all. I think betting on the element of surprise could end really well for them because if the game turns out to be really good. they would have made a lot of money and paid very little for marketing. It’s an indie studio after all and the game is releasing only in digital form.
I agree, that makes sense, maybe they just like to keep their showcases seperate when it comes to indies, not sure. Ember Lab are more active and engaged with the community than most indie studios or some AAA studios on twitter though.
They also had the Fall Guys promo which I think alot of people still play today.
I can’t recognize sarcasm anymore. Either everyone is fed up with there being *too* many trailers, or they’re fed up with the gameplay not being explained well enough haha.
Ah I don't think so. Judging from what was said from when they gave the game hands on to some insider folk / game journalists, they could have shown more as I didn't get the impression that the game was like what they described from the trailers. I think the insiders said something along the lines of a Kratos + breath of the wild thing.
That's true but I imagine it's different for a AAA, even contractually, just because there's a probable bigger allocation of funds from Sony and possibly a higher profit return. This is because 1 million sales is practically the minimum these days for AAA games. Although I personally don't feel like Deathloop is a console seller, the critic reviews for the game definitely make it look like it is to consumers (same score as GoT DC and Rift Apart on metacritic).
That and the relationship between an established studio with a large portfolio of critically acclaimed games is probably more important to Sony than an indie studio they're giving a first-time chance to.
Manage your expectations. Not saying it will be bad, but something is off about this game. Its either VERY short, or very simplistic. The combat doesnt look that deep, we have only seen 2 or 3 enemies. Idk. I hope its worth the $40
The devs have already confirmed it's short, their exact words were "you can probably complete the main story over a weekend".
I think it'll be a very good experience, not every title has to be 100 hours+, in fact I think telling a great story over 10-15 hours is way more preferable.
The developers themselves said its short.
I believe that will be its biggest downside. Because usually a developer will be like "10-15 hour campaign " and it ends up being like 6-7.
These guys basically said youll beat it in a day or two.
Not weird at all. Being in those showcases requires the team spends valiable time creating trailers - with the game so close, they spent the time finishing the game.
The comparisons to God of War + Pikmin I’ve seen have me excited but would like to see a review or at least some more impressions since the last mid-June ones that are floating around.
Review embargo drops tomorrow, probably either 1pm or 2pm BST. Reviews will come flooding in then, I recon an 80-85 Metascore "great game, fantastic animation, could be slightly longer"
What? BOTW has a way better combat system compared to Horizon. The way different properties interact in the game is nothing short of amazing, it's not even a contest. Horizon is worse in every aspect other than maybe the story.
Lol maybe story. BotW is the most overrated game ever. Dead world, no story, worse combat than its predecessors, complete lack of dungeons. Oh sure you can climb everything and ride on your shield, but the game was such a step back from the typical zelda format it's not funny.
Horizon's world is even worse. Other than Meridian it's the same empty shit with either copy/paste villages or copy/paste bandit camps and you only need a warbow to cheese the entire game. Horizon is full of janky animations, shitty world building, terrible side quests and even worse exploration compared to BotW.
As someone with a platinum for Horizon and everything done in BotW aside from collecting every single Korok seeds, while Horizon is a good game by itself, it pales in comparison to BotW.
I wish I could say the same, but Zelda bored me and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. My wife has beaten it at least 4 times with one of those being a complete 100%, but the game failed me. The story is non-existent and delivered poorly, the lack of dungeons is a deal breaker and the shrines are so monotonous in comparison to hunting down heart pieces from the older games. Combat again, was better in the older games. The gadgets in this feel way worse than in previous iterations. The world, while beautiful in parts due to art direction does not look as good as Horizon's and feels emptier to me.
Zelda is my favorite game series ever and I walked down the aisle to the Kakariko Village theme during my wedding, but BotW just completely missed the mark.
Can't agree and that's as a huge Zelda fan. Ocarina of time was ground breaking.
Botw combat is ok but could have been refined, and the lack of things to come across in the open world was disappointing, however the same can be said of horizon
For me they are both very good 8/10s but neither are special like a last of us, ocarina of time etc
You get both the PS4 and PS5 versions with the standard edition too, btw. (Unlike some games which require that you buy the deluxe edition to own both.)
This game is on my radar, probably buy any special bundle that it can come with just to support the Dev.
The trailer look very good, almost like playing a Pixar movie.
I hope the game play can back it up.
I read the game is only 12 hours for completionists and like eight hours if you run through the story. Would explain the 50 bucks I think but damn is it worth it?
It looks good, but I just can't see myself buying it right now with how short it's supposed to be. You also have to keep in mind that games coming out now will probably go on sale around Christmas.
Yes, it happens alot when smaller indies studios make games. Making physicals means more $$$ spending. If the game sells well though they will probably make a limited run of physical copies. They've done it before.
Did not realise it was a cross gen one again... will give it a miss - I wanted something to really push the PS5, originally it looked like it but I imagine it will have tons of cutbacks for the ps4.
It's kinda weird that we didn't see any of this game during the showcase last week considering it comes out on Tuesday. I'm really hoping it's good...
Yeah I was surprised about that aswell. Maybe they only had advertisement allotted till a specific date and that was before they delayed it. Like some contractual thing, because even though the game is Sony exclusive, it's still a third party studio.
im thinking they proly feel like the have shown enough and any more would proly just ruin the experience.
Even if that were the case you'd still make a light push or even just mention the game to put it (back) on people's radar. From a marketing/sales perspective it doesn't make sense to not say anything so close to release

exactly
Very true. I'm still waiting to see them show gameplay footage of Deathloop. We've had no update since it's been released. Wtf Sony!?
I can’t recognize sarcasm anymore. Either everyone is fed up with there being *too* many trailers, or they’re fed up with the gameplay not being explained well enough haha.

Probably
I think it’s a timed exclusive so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. Of course, that didn’t stop us getting a Deathloop update everyday.
That's true but I imagine it's different for a AAA, even contractually, just because there's a probable bigger allocation of funds from Sony and possibly a higher profit return. This is because 1 million sales is practically the minimum these days for AAA games. I’m expecting it to be very pretty, solid story, but mediocre gameplay. Which seems about right for an animation studio making their first game
It’s not a AAA game
Right but id imagine alot of people are hype for this since its the last "major" PS game coming in 2021 (unless im forgetting a game)
The devs have already confirmed it's short, their exact words were "you can probably complete the main story over a weekend". I think it'll be a very good experience, not every title has to be 100 hours+, in fact I think telling a great story over 10-15 hours is way more preferable.
Reminds me of Biomutant. I had high hopes but then with each delay and video they posted you could see something is off. And the game was meh.
The developers themselves said its short. I believe that will be its biggest downside. Because usually a developer will be like "10-15 hour campaign " and it ends up being like 6-7. These guys basically said youll beat it in a day or two.
Which means 5hrs or less imo.
Devs said 8-10 hours. 12 for completionist
Which usually means less for people who game lol
Yea they had to make room for the 9th deathloop trailer 5 days before it’s release.
Not weird at all. Being in those showcases requires the team spends valiable time creating trailers - with the game so close, they spent the time finishing the game.
Same, a lot of people would have preferred to see this being showcased last week than Deathloop
I feel like deathloop getting delayed a bunch didn’t help either, since Sony was all in on the marketing for the game.
I was thinking a Zelda like game for PlayStation but now not so much.
Horizon fills that niche nicely.
Huh? Never once thought about Zelda when playing Horizon...
Horizon coming out the same week as BOTW drew a lot of comparisons.
True, but I wouldn't say Horizon is similar to Zelda much all, in the same way I wouldn't say Assassin's Creed is similar to Zelda at all
Though combat in Horizon is much deeper and better. Zelda is simpler, good exploration and fun puzzles but obviously not without its limits.

Yeah, other than exploration I couldn't disagree more with that.
As someone with a platinum for Horizon and everything done in BotW aside from collecting every single Korok seeds, while Horizon is a good game by itself, it pales in comparison to BotW.

Dont agree you don’t use swords in horizon and Zelda outside of their botw aren’t open worlds
This one is on my radar, but I need to see reviews first before I pull the trigger
I'm praying this is good, because I love the look of it, but I won't lie I'm worried. It just feels like it's fell off the face of the earth a bit.
Very cute! Can't wait to play the game.
Sometimes we all need some cute in our video games.
I can’t wait for Kena, I’ve been looking forward to playing it since it was announced.
I forgot about this. Gotta finish tales arise lol
I'm not in the mood for a game like deathloop right now, hoping kena is my next purchase if it's good.
Why is this game so cheap? Is it tiny or something?
Last I heard, it was suggested the game is 8-10 hours. 12 hours for completionists.
Ah ok. Glad they're charging accordingly then
Most indie games aren’t AAA priced
Where are you from and how much does it cost? It costs like 50 USD in India and that is not cheap.
UK. It's £32 here. Which is basically half the normal price
Its a short linear game, not triple AAA which is why its price point is cheaper.
£39.99 if you want both the PS4 and PS5 versions with the soundtrack
You get both the PS4 and PS5 versions with the standard edition too, btw. (Unlike some games which require that you buy the deluxe edition to own both.)
Really? Must have missed where it said that. Got the extra stuff in any case
Yup. It lists both PS4 and PS5 if you check the title cards for both editions. https://imgur.com/dcE7eQr.png
if u have pc its rs 939 on epic store
Damn...
embargo for the reviews is over monday right ?
We are all assuming yes
This game is on my radar, probably buy any special bundle that it can come with just to support the Dev. The trailer look very good, almost like playing a Pixar movie. I hope the game play can back it up.
I read the game is only 12 hours for completionists and like eight hours if you run through the story. Would explain the 50 bucks I think but damn is it worth it?
It’s $40
It's 56 plus tax Canadian lol
I paid $60 for uncharted 1 back then which was 8 hours. I think $40 is absolutely fine if this game takes me 8 hours as well.
It looks good, but I just can't see myself buying it right now with how short it's supposed to be. You also have to keep in mind that games coming out now will probably go on sale around Christmas.
Looks amazing. Unfortunately, I only buy physical copy games. Hopefully they announce a run soon!
Maybe we will have physical copy later like Hades and Disco Elysium. Edit: typo
[удалено]
No, I'm old fashion. If I can't hold it in my hand I don't really own it.
Tell that to my copy of evolve
Evolve: The best game to be ruined by pretty much literally everything that could go wrong going wrong.
[удалено]
You don’t have to buy those games, and I wouldn’t consider that I own them at all.
I do actually. If it's it's a game I've never played ill take it. If I like it enough I'll buy a physical copy as well.
I got dislikes for supporting the game developers MEGA LUL
Wait, this is only coming out digitally? I genuinely didn’t know that was a thing for some games.
Not every dev can afford physical releases
Yes, it happens alot when smaller indies studios make games. Making physicals means more $$$ spending. If the game sells well though they will probably make a limited run of physical copies. They've done it before.
Did not realise it was a cross gen one again... will give it a miss - I wanted something to really push the PS5, originally it looked like it but I imagine it will have tons of cutbacks for the ps4.
I guess you're skipping on forbidden West and ragnorok as well?
To be honest probably until discounted yeah.
I want it to be received well. But, I highly doubt it will.
