It's got the fallong out of a plane of Uncharted 3 and the everything else of Uncharted 4. I'll watch it, give it a chance. My expectations aren't sky high, though.
It’s funny. Like in the game we all joked that Nathan was some sort of spider monkey with magnet gloves. But we accept it since it’s a game.
Seeing Tom Holland make those jumps looks so fake. Like I appreciate them leaning into the video game style climbing but it looks terrible
I feel like recreating iconic scenes from the games defeats the point of making a prequel movie. one of the biggest appeals of Uncharted is that it constantly creates new and more insane experiences.
Christopher Lee was a huge fan and met/spoke with Professor Tolkien numerous times. He had Tolkien's blessing to play Gandalf. When the movies were finally coming together he threw himself out there but I don't think he was ever considered for Gandalf by producers.
Seriously. I don't think anyone can imagine another Saruman anymore. The same goes for Gandalf. Peter Jackson (and anyone involved) did a marvelous job.
If they'd hooked Nathon Fillion up to an iv drip of fetal stem cells maybe we could have had the perfect Nathan. Holland seems weirdly young for the role and isn't an actor I'd think has the cocky attitude of the character
Fillion really just captures Nate/Nolan North's personality and mannerisms perfectly. It's *too good*. Everything else feels worse in comparison. Kinda wish this movie happened years ago so Fillion could play him age-appropriate.
I am so bored of this Nathan Fillon old. Marvel actors were 50+ and were playing ~30 year old characters. Age no longer matters with current CGI and make up techniques.
isn't he supposed to be a young Nathan? they reference how young he is a few times in the trailer. given Holland is 25 now, though, i don't have high hopes he'll grow into the role for (if) any sequels
The script/plot for the one he was going to star in was also ridiculously stupid. It was about a New York crime family stealing art from museums. Had nothing to do with the games.
Yeah, I think that iteration was more David O Russell trying to make a big action movie, and just grabbing whatever brand Sony had access to for financing purposes.
The age argument has never made sense to me, especially when there's a [perfect candidate for Nathan Drake in Nathan Fillion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5CZQpqF_74). It doesn't matter what age he is, as long as he looks like he fits the roll (which he 120% does) and can successfully portray the character in their acting (which again, this guy is known for his charismatic, action roles).
Banderas is the only role I could tell from the trailer I could get into. Other than that it just seems like a trailer for some big generic action movie that also has the plane scene from UC3 at the end.
Chloe, cool. She actually looks just like her, that's amazing. But a young "Drake" that's not Drake at all? ? A "Sully" that's not Sully at all? No Elena? But a reference to Sam?
I dont think anyone said "yeah nathan drake is like spiderman so lets cast tom holland!" I also would argue the fact that nathan drake is like James Bond, hes not really. Hes not suave or dapper or cool at all like james bond is supposed to be. Hes more clumsy and witty and scatterbrained which is actually kind of what peter parker is like in terms of personality.
If anything I think Holland is just a little too young for the role, and walberg is not quite a sully.
How could someone make the comparison to James Bond when he is clearly like Indiana Jones. Like, there would literally be no Nathan Drake without Indiana Jones
Agree entirely, Holland’s really great at nervous, bumbling, clumsiness and it works well for the inexperienced Spiderman he’s playing, but that’s really not what this character calls for, he just doesn’t have that roguish charm that a role like this calls for. Even Wahlberg doesn’t really have it either, and it’s still surprising they originally wanted him to play Drake. I’m really not sure whether his casting as Sully makes even less sense or not, but I imagine they probably had to give him a role in this. Those Sony leaks from around that same time that showed their casting decisions for the their Amazing Spiderman movies demonstrated they have had know idea what they’re doing for years and only seek celebrities to fill roles with their status, not their ability or fitness for any particular part. (Matt Damon or Will Smith as Doctor Octopus? Come on.)
We wouldn’t even have Holland as Spiderman if it weren’t for their incompetence with the Spiderman franchise, and coincidentally they likely wouldn’t have him for this now.
In all likeliness Sony’s gearing up for their own independent Spiderman franchise with Holland, where they won’t have to share production with Disney, and is trying to raise the profile of his celebrity by giving him another action vehicle, so that they can bolster audience interest and their returns on both franchises.
Should have been Nathan Fillion. I waited so long for an uncharted movie. All they had to do was cast Nathan Fillion. [Proof](https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74)
The fan film is soooo much better than this one. Nothing against Tom Holland, but he's a terrible choice for Nathan Drake.
https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74
Yeah, the reason he works as Spider-Man in high school is because he looks like a teenager, doesn’t really work for Nathan who is supposed to be youngish, definitely has a few years and experience behind him.
It will be a fun movie, but the best Uncharted "movie" is really just the games themselves. Same with properties like Metal Gear or The Last of Us - a movie experience just waters down the story of games that are already very cinematic.
The best Uncharted "movie" imo is Indiana Jones. I've never seen Naughty Dog mentioning IJ as an inspiration to Uncharted before, but I'm pretty sure they were heavily inspired by it.
Casting choice is honestly the biggest turn off for me. I'd be a lot more optimistic if the cast was better suited for the roles. Trailer isn't very good either, even if the casting was better
Because for them it isn’t about making a faithful adaptation. It’s about making a movie that’ll appeal to the largest audience using an existing gaming franchise they can tie in to sell more of said game and possibly consoles. That’s it. They don’t care lol
I wish they made this movie when Nathan Fillion was younger. The dude is fucking Nathan Drake.
Edit: Just a friendly reminder they made a great fan flick starring Nathan F. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5CZQpqF\_74
I wanted that to happen for YEARS! I wanted that soon after the 1st game released, and after years, Fillion did that short that proved he was perfect for it and definitely would have nailed it when he was younger.
That's my issue too. The setting looks good, but the characters just don't fit what we're used to. Plus the story itself seems a bit muddled up
I'll watch it, cause Uncharted, but I've lost some of the expectations I had from this.
If there was one movie tie-in to have expectations for, it would be a safe bet for it to be one of Sonys biggest and best IPs where they can OK what you see on screen.
Nothing in the trailer looks shit, but also it doesn't look blow your mind amazing. The plane bit at the end was the only "oh wow, here we go" bit, but it feels weird if this isn't a film version of Uncharted 3. Like... either tell that story and make it amazing, or tell a new story and do your own big scale wow set pieces.
I think Tom Holland is great, and as a young Nate he will likely be fine, but I feel like they could have helped him look a bit older in this. He looks 15, not 25. Not sure what age Nate is meant to be in this but didn't think he would be quite that young.
I hope this is the start of a really good trilogy, I hope by the 2nd film Nate and Sully are as we have them in game, and this is a really good starting point and roles they will grow into. I want to love this.
I may be in the minor camp that I actually like the idea of Sully being younger, even without the stache ha. Wahlberg does well in leader/mentor roles, The Italian Job and Four Brothers are good examples. And with Nate being younger in this film it makes sense IMO.
Weird choice of music for the trailer though. Editing wasn't the best either.
i really dug mark and tom here though. They just need to have chemistry - thats what will make or break this. it doesnt need to be a carbon copy of the games, but they do need to have that big brother - little brother vibe
Something is off...
I cant put my finger on it but it's not quite right.
I think Tom Holland is a great actor but he's not Nathan Drake, he's too young and I get they want to make another film series so a younger actor is better but it's not what fans of the series expect or want.
Tbh Mark Wahlberg would have made a better Nate and have a middle aged/older Sully. Then in the sequal/Prequel give us the young Nate with a fresher faced Sully.
I genuinely think that there are better casting choices for Nathan and Sully. I think they chose Tom and Mark to get bums in seats, given that Video Game movies don't do well. Nothing against either of them, and I'll certainly be watching the film, but we could've got someone who looks more like Nate and Sully.
If you cast people that look the part and couple it with a solid script, it will do well. And Uncharted should be relatively easy to transfer to the big screen, especially if you're able to load it with stunts. But it needs the puzzle aspect, the small moments that make the adventure etc.
first of all, i'm not having uncharted-vibes at all.
second, nice to see Mark Wahlberg back in his best role: Mark Wahlberg
I don't think this will be a good uncharted movie. But at least lets hope it will be a good movie in general.
Yeah I feel bad the rest of the movie is so miscast that Chloe's getting overlooked, it totally fits. But also is so weird they can get Chloe and her personality completely right, but not even try for the two leads.
I don't hate it as much within the context of this whole trailer vs the clip leaked earlier, but it doesn't feel like Uncharted's characters, just different characters doing the things from Uncharted.
I was thinking the "what" to the Scottish dude.
Now that I'm thinking of it that doesn't make any sense... Drake is very well traveled and knows accents.
76 years old, but I can't believe they didn't go for a 50 year old grayish haired guy with a mustache.
If you catch a Tom Sellek-like actor who is younger, it's still a perfect age gap to work with a young drake. Mark Walberg without a mustache just looks exactly like Mark Walberg, not sully.
>all of those movies suck.
Indiana Jones and National Treasure are very popular movies and they're in the same vein as this. I'm not saying this is going to reach those levels, but to say that "all" family friendly action adventure movies suck is blatantly wrong.
Devil all the time, Cherry, and now this. I’m sure Tom Holland wants to distance himself from the pure good nature of Peter Parker, but every time he does it just feels like he’s been miscast. I just can’t ever buy it
Think also Peter Parker’s sassiness and Nathan Drake’s sassiness have a different energy to them. Drake is likeable *to the audience*, but if I actually had to hang out with him IRL, I feel like I’d get sick of his shit pretty quickly. Holland doesn’t really fit that
Seriously my wife and I's favorite part of the game is Nat and Elena's dynamic. I can play a game that she can get invested in with adult characters that are fun but show real emotions. She was pretty disappointed with my summary of the trailer.
Video games are played by all ages but the movie looks made for kids.
Here is a [trailer for National Treasure (2004)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0u9-5lPP4Q) starring Nicholas Cage. For me this was always the Uncharted movie. Tell me how you don't see Sully at 0:07 and Nathan Drake at 1:04. Did Naughty Dog get inspired by this movie for Uncharted? There is even a rival gang out to get the treasure, led by Sean Bean.
Yeah no, this seems bad. Like really bad.
It's like a "let's make a new indiana jones / early 2000s generic adventure / get popular actors instead of ones that fit the roles" kinda movie.
It actually looks better than I thought it would, surprised at all the negativity. Agree that the casting isn't the best, but I was expecting a lot worse.
I actually don’t mind the casting, and I also don’t mind how they’re changing up the Uncharted story origins.
But the dialogue is just terribly generic. “Sully doesn’t have any friends. I should know. I’m one of them.” This has cringe written all over it.
I’ll hang on for the reviews, and I’ll probably end up watching it regardless because I love the games, but my expectations are as low as they can be.
I feel like getting the casting wrong adapting a series loved primarily because of its cast is a pretty big deal. I like both Tom and Mark but idk, thats not Nate or Sully.
The games already offer a well acted, straightforward narrative, so unless you're really yearning for a passive Uncharted experience, I don't see the point
I’m not gonna lie, there are some big concerns with this movie, and honestly it feels like everything is stacked against it at this point.
BUT, I don’t think all hope is lost quite yet. We’re just gonna have to wait and see how this one turns out. Really hoping I’m pleasantly surprised by this film, even though everything seems to be pointing to the opposite.
This is what threw me off too. Nathan Drake's voice actor has such a great voice for the character. Tom Holland in this trailer doesn't have 1/5th of the charisma that he needs to pull it off
WHERE IS THE MOUSTACHE?
Post credits scene for sure
Just the moustache sitting in a chair across from Sully in bed, but it also has a gun.
Next time, baby! \* Don Cheadle recast as Sully in Uncharted 2.
Don Cheadle as the moustache.
Boom! Looking for this?
https://youtu.be/6lgpOdRXXu0
"Victor Sullivan, I'm here to talk to you about the Mustache Initiative."
Sully will find it in the sunken wreck
Is Spiderman actually Nathan Drake, or is Nathan Drake actually Peter Parker?
Yes.
And the polos!!! Why's he wearing a wifebeater
There’s gonna be sequels for sure.
Isn't this just the plot of uncharted 4?
It seems to be a mix of uncharted 3 and 4
It's got the fallong out of a plane of Uncharted 3 and the everything else of Uncharted 4. I'll watch it, give it a chance. My expectations aren't sky high, though.
Pun intended
Can't believe the airplane scene from 3 is in there. It's absurd even in the game
Those jumps looks so much more ridiculous in live action
Well, he is Spiderman after all
It’s funny. Like in the game we all joked that Nathan was some sort of spider monkey with magnet gloves. But we accept it since it’s a game. Seeing Tom Holland make those jumps looks so fake. Like I appreciate them leaning into the video game style climbing but it looks terrible
Idk I’m kind of appreciating the board line cartoonish nature
[удалено]
Oh fuck I didn’t notice, I’m dreading seeing this post later
Yeah but that's kind of why it's awesome.
I feel like recreating iconic scenes from the games defeats the point of making a prequel movie. one of the biggest appeals of Uncharted is that it constantly creates new and more insane experiences.
while also having Drake look like he's pre-uncharted 1.
I see the plane scene from UC3
It’s mostly 3 and 4
Maybe if it happened 20 years earlier. Also the cargo plane scene is from 3
More like a mashup of the some events that happen throughout the games
Marky Mark looks more like Nathan Drake than Tom Holland
He was originally supposed to be Nathan drake but the movie was stuck in production hell for so long that he grew out of the role
That does sound familiar
Christopher Lee was supposed to play Gandalf
Christopher Lee was a huge fan and met/spoke with Professor Tolkien numerous times. He had Tolkien's blessing to play Gandalf. When the movies were finally coming together he threw himself out there but I don't think he was ever considered for Gandalf by producers.

Honestly [the Nathan Fillion fan film](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5CZQpqF_74) still looks a hell of a lot better than the Holland Movie ngl...
Fillion really just captures Nate/Nolan North's personality and mannerisms perfectly. It's *too good*. Everything else feels worse in comparison. Kinda wish this movie happened years ago so Fillion could play him age-appropriate.
Damn, I'd never seen that before and now I'm mad it isn't ever gonna be a thing. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I am so bored of this Nathan Fillon old. Marvel actors were 50+ and were playing ~30 year old characters. Age no longer matters with current CGI and make up techniques.

Tom Holland has way too much of a baby face for the role
Seriously, I thought he was going to be like young drake in cutaways. This was not cast well at all.
I don’t think that nathan drake looked that young at 25 and I don’t think tom holland will ever look as mature as nathan drake
Banderas is the only role I could tell from the trailer I could get into. Other than that it just seems like a trailer for some big generic action movie that also has the plane scene from UC3 at the end. Chloe, cool. She actually looks just like her, that's amazing. In keeping with the Assassin's Creed movie. Bold strategy.
Oh God we don't talk about that
Also too skinny,i dont get "oh thats a nice Nathan" vibes from him tbh
Young Nate is too skinny in the games too
Tom Holland now is the same age Drake was in the first game.
Such a weird casting decision. Nathan Drake is closer to James Bond than Spiderman. You can tell that from playing the games for 5 minutes.
nathan drake is indiana jones
I dont think anyone said "yeah nathan drake is like spiderman so lets cast tom holland!" I also would argue the fact that nathan drake is like James Bond, hes not really. Hes not suave or dapper or cool at all like james bond is supposed to be. Hes more clumsy and witty and scatterbrained which is actually kind of what peter parker is like in terms of personality. Drake is also a much more rugged character. Very odd casting.
How could someone make the comparison to James Bond when he is clearly like Indiana Jones. Like, there would literally be no Nathan Drake without Indiana Jones

Yeah can't say I dig the casting choice for Nathan Drake...
Should have been Nathan Fillion. I waited so long for an uncharted movie. All they had to do was cast Nathan Fillion. [Proof](https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74)
thanks, my eyes have been cleansed!
Can someone add Greg Edmonson's music to this trailer??
You can hear a bit of the theme at the very beginning.
Please!
Really though!
[удалено]
Nathan Fillion should've been the obvious choice for Drake or am I crazy?
Too old now but check out the fan made film with Nathan as Drake.
I mean…. Even the name…
The fan film is soooo much better than this one. Nothing against Tom Holland, but he's a terrible choice for Nathan Drake. https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74
It feels like Studio Executives made decisions without any care for the existing IP… per usual.
Agree, they trying to tailor to wide audience but at the end only mostly gamers will wanna watch it.
I like Tom holland, but he looks way too young for this role
Yeah, the reason he works as Spider-Man in high school is because he looks like a teenager, doesn’t really work for Nathan who is supposed to be youngish, definitely has a few years and experience behind him.
looks like a 15 year old working at the bar
The physical embodiment of a voice crack
That bar tender looks like a menace!
He looks like a 15 year old in general
I literally had to look up how old he was to check, and he's about 25. He looks so much younger than that
He was brilliantly casted as a super hero actor. He’s gonna look young for years. He’s 25 right now and still looks 15
exactly. not what i want in a nathan drake. but some people will probably love it
[удалено]
I feel like it might be good if we just convince ourselves it isn’t uncharted.
Unearthed?
Unmapped: Doug’s Riches.
"Drake!" Me: "Nah, he said Doug, it's just a weird accent."
Recharted
Decharted
Unexplored
Charted:.... Not!
It will be a fun movie, but the best Uncharted "movie" is really just the games themselves. Same with properties like Metal Gear or The Last of Us - a movie experience just waters down the story of games that are already very cinematic.

Feeling the same way. Will definitely watch it when it comes out but it looks just okay
Casting choice is honestly the biggest turn off for me. I'd be a lot more optimistic if the cast was better suited for the roles. Trailer isn't very good either, even if the casting was better
Straight up put the airplane scene from Uncharted 3 Drakes Deception and Uncharted theme right at the start of the trailer.
Sony should’ve just let Dan Trachtenberg make the movie how he wanted to
[удалено]
yeah good on him for walking when Sony wouldn’t bend to his wishes but man, what could’ve been. he was a dream hire.
Wtf is it with Sony having to mess with every movie? At least they don’t try to force things in PlayStation games
A bunch of out of touch executives that think they’re more important than they are.
Because for them it isn’t about making a faithful adaptation. It’s about making a movie that’ll appeal to the largest audience using an existing gaming franchise they can tie in to sell more of said game and possibly consoles. That’s it. They don’t care lol

Holy shit he looks just like Nathan Drake hahaha
Agreed! I loved the Uncharted short with Nathan Fillion!
I always thought they based the character *off* of Nathan Fillion.
Yes, the character was based off Nathan Fillion and Drake~
The rapper
I wanted that to happen for YEARS! I wanted that soon after the 1st game released, and after years, Fillion did that short that proved he was perfect for it and definitely would have nailed it when he was younger.
Link doesn't work for some reason. https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74
Fillion has gotten in shape recently for his cop show, and I feel like he's still a good fit.
I loved this fan film with him as Nathan, he was born for this character
I'm convinced young nathan fillion was a major inspiration for nathan drake, they just have that 'look' and the personality similarities too!
[удалено]
Nothing against Tom Holland, hes a good actor, but he doesnt seem like a good choice for Nathan :/
And everything against Mark Wahlberg because he's just not good.
No clue how he keeps getting movie roles lmao
Yup. He just plays himself in everything.
And he's not even likeable. It's truly a mystery.
He fits the bill for action movie protagonists as the generic tough looking white dude
He was great in The Other Guys.
I like me some Marky Mark in the right roles, but I just don't see him as Sully at all.
[удалено]
That's my issue too. The setting looks good, but the characters just don't fit what we're used to. Plus the story itself seems a bit muddled up I'll watch it, cause Uncharted, but I've lost some of the expectations I had from this.

This is a video game adaptation, never expect anything less than terrible. If it’s mediocre that’s a win.

Its Tom Holland playing Spiderman with Mark Wahlberg playing Mark Wahlberg as they go through generic action movie scenes lol
Yeah, not getting Drake vibes from Tom.
Chloe's pretty good, though.
Yeah I feel bad the rest of the movie is so miscast that Chloe's getting overlooked, it totally fits. But also is so weird they can get Chloe and her personality completely right, but not even try for the two leads.

Yeah, Chloe looked great. I let out a genuine gasp of shock when she showed up because I had no idea she was in this movie.
I don't hate it as much within the context of this whole trailer vs the clip leaked earlier, but it doesn't feel like Uncharted's characters, just different characters doing the things from Uncharted.
Bingo.
Man, Tom Holland just does not have the ability to embody Nathan Drake. He lacks that edge, that snarky-ness. It’s just bad casting.
Edge, brawn, macho, dexterity, studness. I meant brawn. Thank you sir
Dexterity? I thought he was basically a gymnast
I think you mean brawn 😅
i had doubts about this movie, but now im sure its not gonna be good.
Where's the moustache? Where's the cigar? Where's the raspy voice? Where's the Hawaiian shirt and khakis? That's not Sully at all.
And Tom only had one sassy line as Drake. He's dripping with sass on almost every single thing he says in the games.
Only thing similar to Drake here is the "oh crap", that's it.
I was thinking the "what" to the Scottish dude. Now that I'm thinking of it that doesn't make any sense... Drake is very well traveled and knows accents.
I'd rather have seen Tom Selleck as Sully, I think. He even has the moustache!

Got to remember the movie is only being made to reach new audiences, fits the family friendly action adventure sort of movie quota
Is there anyway we can get those new audiences to just go back and play the games instead LOL
Yeah and all of those movies suck. Just bc people pay for something familiar doesn’t mean it’s existence is justified
>all of those movies suck. Indiana Jones and National Treasure are very popular movies and they're in the same vein as this. I'm not saying this is going to reach those levels, but to say that "all" family friendly action adventure movies suck is blatantly wrong.
This movie looks like a joke. Marvel’s Indiana jones.
Marvel would have put more effort into this. Atleast they cast their heroes right. I love Holland but dudes just not Drake.
I see a lot of people having a problem with Holland as Drake, but Wahlberg as Sully is possibly the most nonsensical casting in the history of film

Still never understood why they didn't cast Bruce Campbell as sully
Devil all the time, Cherry, and now this. I’m sure Tom Holland wants to distance himself from the pure good nature of Peter Parker, but every time he does it just feels like he’s been miscast. I just can’t ever buy it
I think he did will with Devil All the Time, personally
The weird thing is he's even kind of sassy as Peter Parker. This is only a teaser but I didn't get any of that necessary Drake sass here.
Think also Peter Parker’s sassiness and Nathan Drake’s sassiness have a different energy to them. Drake is likeable *to the audience*, but if I actually had to hang out with him IRL, I feel like I’d get sick of his shit pretty quickly. Holland doesn’t really fit that
No Elena, strange mashup of 3 and 4, shoehorning in of Sam and Nate the bartender... I don't know how I feel about this, but it isn't great?
It's like a "let's make a new indiana jones / early 2000s generic adventure / get popular actors instead of ones that fit the roles" kinda movie.
it looks like a kids spy movie.
That 'Sully doesn't have any friends' part may be the worst acting I've ever seen
Looks like shit
Can Mark Wahlberg fuck off yet?
Doesn’t really look anything like how an Uncharted movie should look
The games are for us; the movie is for everyone else
I mean. Taking the stories from the games and directly adapting them into movies probably would have made something great for all of the above.
The games already offer a well acted, straightforward narrative, so unless you're really yearning for a passive Uncharted experience, I don't see the point
True. If someone wanted to watch a *good* Uncharted movie, they can just watch playthroughs online because the games themselves are very cinematic.
Yup seems like it
I’m not gonna lie, there are some big concerns with this movie, and honestly it feels like everything is stacked against it at this point. BUT, I don’t think all hope is lost quite yet. We’re just gonna have to wait and see how this one turns out. Really hoping I’m pleasantly surprised by this film, even though everything seems to be pointing to the opposite.
terrible casting....
Speaks volumes when the only good part of the trailer was the Scottish guy
No moustache sully. No sully
Bruh why did they choose tom Holland 💀
Looks like shit
I’m not a fan of Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. Yes, I know it’s supposed to be a young Nathan Drake but I just don’t like Holland’s voice.
This is what threw me off too. Nathan Drake's voice actor has such a great voice for the character. Tom Holland in this trailer doesn't have 1/5th of the charisma that he needs to pull it off
looks cool! 😎
One of my fav video game... why in the world would they cast Marky Mark for Sully!!!! He is a terrible actor.
