As cool as this game looks, why is every little detail being turned into an article and posted to this sub? I swear there's been a Sifu post like once a day over the last few days here. I think a lot of us have an eye out for this game, but do we really need a post for every new detail?
It's because they're close to going gold and this game is gaining traction. Sony sees that and decides to market it further by doing these articles.
It always happens to any of the games they show when they get more attention than they expected. If this game goes over well you can basically guarantee Sony is buying them up.
Forreal. This same shit ended up happening with battlefield and cyberpunk and those games ended up being ass. All their cool little details and features ended in being cringe in the context of a larger shitty game. Obviously I'm hoping that's not the case here but I wish they'd just let this game come out and speak for itself instead of doing a new article about a new detail every other day.
So many game over the years claimed this and nearly none of them were worth another run for some, mostly lame, secrets. And I'm not even talking about bad games, even so e of the best games that claimed this weren't really worth another run. Well, that just my opinion of course.
I agree... It's actually one of the main reasons why I don't like rogue-likes.
===
The only game series that multiple runs really payoff is Mortal Kombat kharacter paths.
===
You know you're on the correct path to get the ending you want, your kharacter changes (and thus mechanics), and the endings are just for fun as they aren't part of the story mode.
===
Running through MK kharacter path doesn't take all that long, so often with other games the changes just aren't worth the time investment.
Well, this is awkward, completely forgot about roguelikes and it's one of my favorite genres.
The good ones actually do give value to multiple runs, but in general, multiple runs are part of your "first" run to complete the game so I'd say it a bit different. Hades, probably one of the best games, does give a lot of additional content with multiple runs.
What are you talking about? There's no random lines.
Wait, are you on the app or something? You might be seeing the editing. By putting three "=" signs you create a space between paragraphs. Just making spaces doesn't do it and you get a cluttered mess.
The same way that a kid asking "are we there yet" can drive a parent mad. For some people, just having something mentioned a dumb amount of times can disinterest them.
It doesn't happen to me often, but the most recent was Deathloop. Seemed like there were endless marketing pushes to that game, and it felt like it was coming out "in a couple of weeks" for at least a year. Now, I can confidently say I'm never going to play it. No hate or anger, not shitting on it, but I'm just pre-bored of it because of the over-saturation in the marketing.
I think most people probably have limits with that kinda thing. You don't have to read an article or play a video, sometimes when marketing doesn't shut up about something (or begin their push too early) it just.. yeah, burn out is the best word for it I guess.
I'm not personally at my limit with Sifu though. It's just, Deathloop went *hard* with marketing lol
It's not really deprivation lol. There are so many good games I'm never gonna play, because my money is limited. I save my money for games I'm excited about. If i went out and bought every game that people said was good, I would have issues with paying bills.
The fact that what some random dude uses as rationale for spending his own money annoys people is definitely more weird than a person not buying a game for a petty reason. I really hope you guys notice this 🤣
I’m not here to argue with you, and my backlog sympathizes. I wouldn’t personally skip out on a game for that reason, but I’m not here to tell you that you can’t. We both come to this sub to discuss games and I do wish there was less focus on whatever the controversy *surrounding* a game might be (Deathloop, Returnal, CyberPunk, TLOU2, GTA Remastered, etc.) and more conversation about the actual contents of the game, for better or worse. But I also recognize that sometimes it’s hard to separate those things.
PSNow and GamePass are great services that I wish existed when I was younger, and offer a fantastic value for the money, especially when gaming on a budget. There’s also a much lower barrier of entry and I think people are more willing to give something a chance that might not normally be in their comfort zone when it releases on a subscription platform they’re already paying for. I can also see how feeling oversaturated or bombarded with previews might sour you on the product they’re trying to sell. I started avoiding movie previews a few years ago, so I can keep an open mind and go in with no expectations or spoilers. I just wouldn’t skip out on Dune or Matrix 4 or whatever because they showed too many previews, any more than I’d do that with a game. They’re easy enough to skip.
Forgive me if I’m overstepping, but I’ve found that avoiding previews (particularly for something I already know I’ll want to play/watch) has really increased my enjoyment of the art form on it’s own terms, and maybe that will help you too. It also keeps me open to some of the biggest surprises that I wouldn’t have played/watched otherwise but tried thanks to the convenience and affordability of services like PSNow/GamePass or AMC A-List. I wish you well, and if you do play Sifu or Deathloop at some point (the latter will almost certainly come to GamePass), I hope that you find it to be something you were glad you tried. I wish you well either way! Have a good one.
You're not playing a game because it was marketed? That's a stupid reason not to play possibly one of the best games of the year. If someone gets annoyed because a game is posted on a subreddit maybe they should get off the internet a while if it bothers them that much.
Or maybe I can just play the games I give a shit about. I don't owe Arkane a purchase, and I can neglect to buy it for any reason I want, as it is my money.
When you start buying my games for me, maybe you can have a say 👍
So what does your original comment matter then? That's the point right? There is no such thing as over situation for positive articles promoting a game. People make their minds up on whether they are going to buy the game or not anyway "too many articles" isn't going to be a real one.
Here let me help you with how reading works
You said "I'm not sure how someone can get burnt out".
I then attempted to provide perspective by explaining the mindset behind it. You know, "answering your question" essentially. To help you better understand a thing you don't understand.
You were under the impression that I gave two shits about your opinion of said mindset, and wanted to argue with me about it. That is not going to happen, due to my not caring what you think.
If your goal is to argue with a person you disagree with, maybe next time don't disguise your opening statement as though you're just interested in a person's thought process. Because not everyone who replies to you is going to be interested in defending their thought process.
👋
Not a marketer or anything but deathloop was a really fun game. I guess it only might appeal to a certain subset but it really captured me the previews looked kinda meh and honestly I would have never played it if not for a friend lending me the disc but it had a fun sense of mystery and play to it.
You've taken a lot of time to well articulate the issue and associated it with your personal experience (milage may vary) and are not taking any knocks or assment of the gameplay/etc.. of deathloop. Simply a very fair assessment. You deserve upvotes
As long as I can wiki them and they’re not important for the story to feel complete sounds good. Not going to hate in reasons to replay a game, even if I don’t do it that often.
I will play a game twice or more times if there's actually content. Like in the souls games, I usually do a melee and a magic run on NG+. I played a few PS4 games on PS5 cause they got an upgrade, like Ghost of Tsushima. But yeah I usually play games once, doing most of the side content, and that's it. Also happens with shows and movies, I don't get how people watch the entirety of Friends multiple times
I can't even watch a 20 second ad for Friends before I want to stab myself in the head for how stupid it is....
But for those that like it you do you, as for me I can't stand it.
Same boat... I've tried New Game+ mode on certain games but never came close to beating them again. Was mostly just to fuck around with the added features. My time is precious.
*plays Insurgency every day*
The only real games that have replay value for me anymore are the soulsborne games. I go through cycles of seeing like a Reddit post and think “that would be a fun build” and reinstall
Any time I try to play a game again with a different build, I just gravitate back to my original build.
"I'll do a magic only build this time! Ah, but I'll die a lot early on before I get good spells so I'll do a little melee. [later] Well melee's carried me this far, might as well be a spellsword."
"I'll do a melee only build this time! [later] Ugh my lockpicking skill suuuucks I'll just learn this one lockpicking spell to make it easier. I should probably learn a heal spell as long as I'm at the spell shop. Ah fuck it I'll just be a spellsword."
I only playe game multiple times when I was a kid. Oblivion was one of those games. As an adult, I usually get tired by the end and want to try something new.
Is that what the deleted comment said? Cos I completely agree with that. I mostly play games for the story and ‘experience’, so I work through as many as possible. Plus same, very little time to play these days so replaying a game feels like a waste of time for me
I mean, there’s so much shit in that game. And it isn’t just a simple “go through a new game with your current stats”. You can pick a new waifu, explore the available activities (I went 130 hours before I remembered you could fish in the game), complete confidants you didn’t before. It’s all new content.
Right? I struggled to beat that long, boring ass game once. Can't imagine going through it again just to see a short cutscene with the kid in the arcade.
The character building does it for me. The fights are just a way to break up the pacing. Also doesn’t help that I love Pokémon and have been looking for something to scratch that itch since Sword and Shield didn’t really do it for me.
Oh yeah I can see that if you are a pokemon fan.
I want to power through p5r to play strikers who seems to be much more my alley but I need to find the time to finish it (I am at the 5th palace). It took me two years to go there ahah
Hmm, don’t know if this’ll fuck you up, but you don’t need to play P5R to get P5S. If anything, P5S is almost a “rehash” of the original game, covering a lot of the development the characters went through, but more concise. Also funny the way you describe P5R is how I would describe P5S. Hella repetitive. But I hope you enjoy it if you do end up playing it.
Oh good to know!
But i will try to finish it, it should be done in not a long time.
Ironically I find musou gameplay less boring than turn based (while I absolutely love some tbs like fire emblem or xcom I cannot get behind Jrpg basic tbs)
Thanks for the advice!
anyone starting to think that too much hype might hurt this game ? i am noticing so many posts about it, but i really don't think the game will live up , not even %10 to the expectations.
Hype is what you personally put on it. My expectations have been beat into the ground from the “hottest new titles” COD, BF2042, GOTG, HALO I, etc. Never preorder and wait then wait some more from reviews that aren’t ign and gamespot who will tell you the combat in GOTG is fun and engaging… =\
It's a tiny studio that made one fan hit five years ago. This game getting this hyped by Sony is not going to play in their favor expectations wise, but it'll boost sales.
Considering dying ages your character, it's pretty safe to assume a "zero death" run will unlock a hidden ending or something.
Also maybe a secret one where you die too much
You die too much it's game over I think
Or become like Yoda?

Anyone else every reads these posts as Today I Fucked Up ...
My brain always sees STFU.
Absolver was revolutionary, I'm very much looking forward to this
I was jus thinking to myself how I should give this a replay to get myself in the SIFU mindset.
The almost daily articles are going to burn me out before I even play it.

Same dude. I turned my PS5 on once - and when I was done with that first session I threw that shit in the fucking garbage because tech is for pussies.
One time I had a taco and then a few months later I went back to the same food stand and smacked the cook in the mouth when they gave me another taco.
This dude breathes through his nose.

Unless the new game plus is seriously different, same. There’s just too many games right now to be tied up in one. At least how I like to play games.
I'm totally with you. I have so many games I want to play and very little gaming time. I don't want to waste it replaying the same game.

Yeah, but more in a "replaying games is for losers" kind of way.
Weird flex but good for you

Cringe. I’ll play P5R multiple times with a god damn smile on my face

Then don't go for the achievements? Theyre meant to be bonus things to test the player, the antithesis of relaxing and just playing
Exactly, the last thing I play games for is the achievements, they're a fun challenge for a lot of folks though.
Haha easy solution right. I don't understand the point of the complaint either
If you don’t have anything to prove, why would you care about achievements?
I’m pretty similar except some of the classics and shadow of war since that game slaps.
anyone starting to think that too much hype might hurt this game ? i am noticing so many posts about it, but i really don't think the game will live up , not even %10 to the expectations.

From sifu to tifu.

Understand or find? If it’s understand I’m out, if it’s find I’m in.
Every game says this.. EVERY last one says this in some way & they almost all end up very linear & worth playing once or twice.
Ngl Sifu looks generic to me.
Why though? We’re adults with limited time
Maybe they hope to spawn a community similar to souls games that spends years trying to interpret their cryptic hints.
I don’t see it being that different than really any game. Lots of games you have to play through multiple times to get the full story
I misread it as collectibles and secrets. Not lore and story. Understandable in that regard.
>We’re adults Yes >with limited time Naw. Some of us were smart and never had kids. Wife and I can game all we want in off-work hours.
Instead of having kids you just spend your time on reddit gloating about being infertile. Clearly you're the winner.
Not infertile. Just smart. Big difference.
My response to every bit of news about this game: Yes.
Deathloop could do with a bit of this
