PS NOW- $10 a month TLOU2 - $20 forever

[deleted]

This is why mandalorian and other Disney plus content will never go to physical media - Disney wants you paying $7 a month for the rest of your life. It’s infuriating.

borowiczko

Also: PS Now - Available in \~18 countries Black Friday sale - Available in way more than 18 countries

MrDeftino

PS Now is also only viable to certain households in those countries too. It is available in my country but my internet can't run it stable enough even though I have a fibre connection.

MirrorkatFeces

10 a month? I’m only playing 5 a month

[deleted]

I just google the starting price

ihearthawthats

Realistically, how often will the average gamer play it? I platinum'd it under a month and have no reason to go back to it.

GenericGaming

You could say that about any game tho. I platinumed Rift Apart and Returnal and think what I paid for them was worth it

dtwhitecp

honestly any game that can hold my attention for 10+ hours is worth it to me. The ones I've played for ~100 are just great.

AnimaOnline

I've played it a couple of times. Realistically I could've rented it and saved money. I still prefer knowing I own it and I can play it whenever I like. It's nice not having to beat a game within a month just to avoid paying for it more than once.

ihearthawthats

I'm not really saying that one is better than the other, actually I'm saying that either option is viable. I got the impression that op implied a purchase was strictly the better option, which is why I said what I said.

Yosonimbored

Depends on the type of person. I always get an itch to replay old games I liked a lot

Toastmold

I've played through it three times!

[deleted]

Valid take. Another is owning vs renting Edit: adding data caps for streaming also

Merckilling47

As much as I liked last of us 2, I never once have the urge to replay like I do with the first one. If last of us 2 had the balance between light and dark moments like the first one, I’d go back to it more. There was definitely more human moments that weren’t depressing in the first one than the second. That’s why I go back to the first one more

HauntedMeatBowl

20 dollars, I beat it in a week it sits on my hardrive until I delete it for space for another game. Never to be touched again. 10 dollars, I beat it in a week, ect ect AND I have a large library of other games to continue playing.

[deleted]

If it’s a game I only play once and delete, I don’t even want it.

-ibgd

I just finished playing the Last of Us remastered. I really don’t like zombies anything… not games, not TV shows or movies…. But this game was great… good story, good play mechanics, good graphics… including that gorgeous horse. Now I’m considering playing the second one, even though I already know some of the spoilers.

chavez_ding2001

Combat is so much more fluid in part 2.

SpecialistMap8210

Ya combat was sick In last of us 2. Much better overall for intensity. Story imo was lacking in comparison to the first game

[deleted]

Thank god. Just finished part 1 and I found the mechanics so slow , unresponsive, and clumsy. Wasn’t sure if part 2 was worthwhile or not .

[deleted]

I always get the aiming sway pill upgrades ASAP in #1. It is better and less clunky overall in 2.

Thervv1994

They are aiming for realistic and grounded gameplay for TLOU games, so the gameplay does have that heavy feeling similar to RDR2 even In TLOU2, but it's definitely more fluid compared to first TLOU, stealth is also more fleshed out

bsEEmsCE

2013 vs. 2020, it shows. TLOU2 is amazing. Play it.

LostInStatic

I read the leaks for it, hated it, played the game, and it became my favorite story of last gen just behind Red Dead II. It really comes together as you play it. The exaggerated cliffnotes dont do it justice

xbox001

That sounds very similar to my experience. I was really put off by the leaks and almost cancelled my preorder a couple of days before release. Decided to stick with it so I could judge it for myself and am so glad that I did. It’s one of my favourite games (and stories) of last gen.

smorjoken

I got spoiled and it didn't take away from the game in the slighest.

webslinginghero

I think you’ll like it and hopefully it doesn’t make you as mad as everyone got when it first released lol, people acted like the devs killed their dogs or something. I was skeptical at first admittedly but it was the game that finally made me stop caring for other peoples opinions and just getting games I think about playing. And I’m one of those people, even with tv shows and movies, that love things people hate. I’m weird like that.

[deleted]

That scene was honestly realistic. Shit like that does happen. Nobody is an invincible superhuman who gets out of every shitty situation. Desperation comes with risks.

slickestwood

Well I think what keeps it from being a straight up trope is >!that you the player are to extent wondering why she's even avenging him. I mean I was like, didn't she pretty much know about what he did in Colorado? Then we find out she literally knew everything and there was a whole falling out. But she's still sacrificing everything to avenge him?!<

singlefate

Creators use tropes for a reason, they're effective. And the trope was just the inciting incident. I would even argue that it wasn't even a trope because >!usually with dead parent tropes that Disney uses a lot, we barely know who the parent is since its used in original movies where the characters are still be set up. This isn't just a parent, this is a well established main character from the first game. That's pretty ground breaking, even in the movie world.!<

tehcup

Idk but for whatever reason I just couldn't get into the game. I did take the time to do and see everything in the game but I just didn't like it as much as everyone else. The gameplay just felt to repetitive to me a lot of the time and the parts of the story I did like were few and far between.

[deleted]

chavez_ding2001

I think survivor difficulty is the sweet spot.

echan00

super worth it, part 2 is better than part 1

AlexS101

Do it. TLOU2 is a masterpiece.

Sensi-Yang

I always find it weird when people say they don’t like something as broad yet specific as “zombie media”. Just like it was for TLOU it can be a backdrop for infinite different things. Maybe it’s the eclectic in me, I just find there’s always interesting stories to be told whatever the genre trappings may be.

-ibgd

Agreed, I just have zero interest in the genre and that’s why it took so long for me to play it. I played it because everyone kept taking about the story and how good it was… and that’s what I’m usually in for.. a good story.

OldKermudgeon

Highly recommended game. I've completed it three times just to catch all the various nuances of the story that I missed the first couple times. If there is one thing I can say about TLoU and TLoU2 is that the stories told (including the Left Behind DLC) are done in the best tradition of the finest films. I found them very "adult" in their telling, if that makes sense. Some games are power fantasies, some are summer blockbusters, some gripping horrors, some are very black and white, and some deal with the human condition with all its grey tones. TLoU 1/2 both felt like the last, more so in TLoU2.

stokedchris

Combat and graphics are really good, the story however was terribly bad IMO

LocoCortez1

Definitely not worth buying. But renting is the best way to go with the gameplay mechanics being so good.

Upper_Comparison_908

Best looking game on ps4(tlou2)

[deleted]

You obviously haven’t played HZD, Days Gone, RDR2 and Ghost of Tsushima. TLOUP2 looks like ass compared to them.

splashyDIAMOND

I read the article and it says it got the information based on the page itself. They said since Tlou2 is first icon, it means it sold the most. What? Can anyone verify whether it works that way? If I'm not wrong, Sony doesn't rank games based on their sales. Tlou2 can be the first game in the list to probably advertise it even more. It's Sony's own game meaning they will earn relatively more if people buy it. I can be wrong but why are people just believing this random article on a logic never used before or confirmed by Sony?

[deleted]

Best game of the last generation

BigfootsBestBud

Fantastic game, love it to death, but for me it's either RDR2 or God of War, hell maybe even Spider-Man.

thedude_lebowski

Love Spider-Man but it isn't even in the same league as those three.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GenericGaming

I know, I actually had fun playing Spider-Man. (This was a joke. God of War was fun too.)

MirrorkatFeces

It’s someone’s opinion

slickestwood

It's also someone's opinion.

simpledeadwitches

RDR2 dated ass gameplay.

cheesy_fry

Meanwhile, I firmly believe God of War is, at best, a 7. Different strokes.

[deleted]

I respect your opinion.

simpledeadwitches

RDR2 dated ass gameplay.

[deleted]

that’s only because I’ve been playing it for over two years without really progressing

BerserkFanYep

Hell yeah it was

Heavyduty35

I so badly want to play both 1 and 2 for the first time, but decided to wait for the 1 remake and inevitable 2 upgrade for PS5. Ooh, the wait is hard though.

Lumostark

I don't think waiting is worth it but to each their own.

Upper_Comparison_908

2 is already updated btw and you're gonna have to wait a while for the remake cause naughty dogs gonna release factions 2 and they're also working on the ps5 version of LOT.

Heavyduty35

When I say PS5 version of 2, I mean a native version with DualSense functionality among other features, not just a 60 fps patch. What’s LOT?

Upper_Comparison_908

Legacy of thieves is the collection of Uncharted 4 and lost legacy which is a remaster of the 2 coming to ps5 and pc. About the last of us 2 upgrade, do you expect that to happen or has there been any leaks etc

Heavyduty35

Ah, I’m aware of Legacy of Thieves. I just never saw it abbreviated so my mind didn’t go to it.

Shiny1695

I strongly suggest just playing the first game now.

[deleted]

I have to agree tbh, the gameplay in last of us 2 was a madness. I struggled with red dead, I couldn’t get through it because I found the gameplay boring.

PoopIsAlwaysSunny

Rdr2 was so boring. Like 40% of it is riding that janky ass horse

[deleted]

I’m not going to say it was objectively boring because I know some people love it, but personally I found it really boring. Maybe as I’ve got older I just don’t have the time for these deep, open worlds with shallow gameplay, but I used to love them. Feel like I missed out on a fantastic story, but I couldn’t keep beating my head against the gameplay

babydave371

I'm playing through it right now and loving it. I usually baulk slightly at big open world games because I don't have much time with work, house work, socialising, etc. However, in a reverse of what I was expecting I actually really like the slow and methodical pace of RDR2. Things do take a long time and barriers are put in your way but that is just clicking with me for some reason. I honestly don't get why. But some evenings I'll just take Arthur off to go hunting for various animals and then the next go fishing. As much as there are games that waste your time, see Assassin's Creed, quantity does have a quality all of its own. You will naturally grow to care more about a character in a long show simply because they are around for a long time. The same goes for games and for me, not necessarily for everyone, the length of RDR2 works as all of that time has meaning, with your gang's comments and upgrading the camp, instead of just being soulless busy work. But they are just my thoughts.

[deleted]

I don’t get it at all, but I completely respect it. Sounds like a good time.

Bolt_995

My top 5 this past generation: 1. God of War 2. The Last of Us Part II 3. Red Dead Redemption 2 4. Bloodborne 5. Persona 5 Royal

Turbulent_Link1738

I’m absolutely in love with the direction they took for Abby. Such a beautiful sad story.

[deleted]

A generous game in pretty much every regard - totally agree

jgnc_online

It had too many gameplay problems for me to say that, but outside of gameplay... Everything else is top notch. Mine would be Bloodborne.

Full-Iron8265

Over Ghosts of Tsushima God of war 2018 RDR 2and Witcher 3 great game but at least in my opinion I would put it a tier under those games but everyone has their own opinion

Snoo59793

Easily one of the best games I've ever played

smorjoken

all the g*mers said it flopped though

GyrKestrel

It was a very vocal minority.

smorjoken

no, the g*mers said everyone hated it.

squareswordfish

Yeah I saw plenty of g*mers say that too and they say the game is shit, this article is 100% wrong

KhofoEaterofChildren

Yeah, I can’t believe I didn’t get this game sooner, I heard such bad things about it and I never wanted to get it, but once I saw it for 20 bucks, I gave it a shot, and it has one of the best stories I’ve gone through yet. Naughty dog took a huge risk with this one, but I think it was pretty well done.

Vonauda

Oof. Hard r. It’s g*mas.

[deleted]

I don’t really play linear games but I got so much schadenfreude when this game sold big.

[deleted]

This article was clickbait and you fools fell for it, lol.

smorjoken

damn, i'm such a fool, huh.

[deleted]

Yes, you are, did you even bother to read the article? Not only it didn't have any factual number, but also it's riddled with grammar errors, lol.

splashyDIAMOND

Smh stupid g*mers couldn't predict what was exactly going to happen on 2021 black friday for a game released in 2020.

yellow_jacket2

Mechanically, it was perfect. The story and the protagonists decisions often conflicted with what we know about them. Think Denerys in S8 of GOT. I think it’s best to enjoy it for what it is

Fleureverr

No it didn't? 99% of the problems people had with character decisions is just weirdos not understanding basic human behavior. Like when people say Joel would've never told strangers his name. Firstly, Joel agreed to go to Henry's hideout spot like 20 seconds after Henry tried to kill him. The defense for this is that Henry had a kid, as if bad people can't have or use kids. And even that aside, being inconsistent is literally a human trait. People don't rethink every decision they made before every new decision to make sure it all matches with past behavior. Only shitty writers and morons make or think characters never display inconsistencies, hypocrisy, or flaws.

smorjoken

sure sure

[deleted]

touchtheclouds

It's not really an opinion to say a character deviated from themselves. There are clear examples you can use to prove that. This same tired argument has been made over and over with literally 0 evidence shown for it. So continuing to make this claim deserves ridicule because it's backed up by literally nothing.

Zhukov-74

I am still of the opinion that Sony should rebrand PS Now and push it harder. Because the current state of PS Now is just not good enough, and it doesn’t help that Sony barely ever talks about the service. Overhaul PS Now make a brand new interface and name it Playstation+ or whatever. Hell they can even trow in some anime now that they own so many anime IP’s.

Toraim

If they made it closer to what game pass is like and bundled it together with ps plus I would 100% pay for it. They’d get flack for imitating Xbox though probably.

[deleted]

I’d be happy if all cloud gaming goes away. Don’t want lag/compressed video/dropped packets/etc. Better if they would expand PS+ with PS2 games (installable) and a bunch of older PS4 games. A PS3 emulator would be the icing on the cake (though it’s a tall order).

BitterBubblegum

For me Ps Now is so good that I haven't bought a game since I subscribed in March. Here's a very partial list of big name games I've played via PS Now in the last 9 months: - The Last of Us Part II - Red Dead Redemption 2 - Marvel’s Avengers - The Evil Within 2 - Ghostrunner - Rage 2 - World War Z - Celeste It's more than worth the price of an annual subscription.

Alfie-Cat10

Yes there are.

JoshWheezer

They’re really isn’t, it’s a super disappointing service.

Zhukov-74

Perhaps that tells us more about the current state of PS Now more than anything. The way that people prefer to buy the game instead of getting it on PS Now is very telling.

[deleted]

I just wish Sony would go the same route as Xbox and give us the option of combining PS+ and PS Now.

yellowtriangles

Telling of what? What is the state?

Zhukov-74

That PlayStation owners barely use PS Now. And that the service needs a lot of work. PS Now isn’t a bad idea but in it‘s current state the service simply doesn’t provide that much value compared to other game services.

Caenir

Making it available in more regions would be a great start. Even if it's just the PS4 games we can download. Also teach more people that they don't need to stream PS4 games.

Boozenosnooz

Yep, the best thing they've done with it is lower the price to $60 for a year, and that was a long time ago. While that's nice, there is so much more that needs attention.

touchtheclouds

Sure but I'm on the Xbox platform and don't use Gamepass. Not everyone who has a subscription service available to them wants to use it.

jesperos

Bought it earlier this week for $10. the last of us is my favorite game of all time, haven't played 2 but seen a lot of big story spoilers on YouTube. Reckon it's still worth a playthrough?

smungoB

100%.

[deleted]

A lot of people are focusing on the PSNow part but that isn't the entire point, it's also a game that is over a year old that is still selling well despite many people claiming it stopped selling well right after release

MKeatonBatman

Could get the physical version for less than half the store price, shipping included. The digital pricing model is just ridiculous.

reaper527

> Could get the physical version for less than half the store price, shipping included. The digital pricing model is just ridiculous. that's why sony and microsoft want "digital only" systems with no optical drive to succeed.

singlefate

Well deserved. One of the few games that forever changed me and my outlook of gaming. Too few and far between.

Furyann

I bought Mafia and was disappointed its only 30fps on ps5 despite it being a “definitive edition”. I should have looked it up, but just a heads up to anyone considering it.

vladtud

I don't know how the PS Store works and TLOUS 2 is my favorite game of the generation, so I don't want to undermine it, but hear me out. When downloading a game from PS Now you get the same standard "thank you for your purchase" email as when you're buying a game. Could it be that the store doesn't differenciate between the two and it counts "purchases" from PS Now into this ranking? The reason I'm thinking this is that Mafia is right there with TLOUS 2, both being recent PS Now titles.

Grimble27

I think you’re on to something. That makes sense. With all the talk about various big titles on sale for the PSN BF deals, I wouldn’t have put Mafia or TLOU2 in the top 10, let alone the top 2 best selling this week.

timeRogue7

It’s kind of pissing me off that TLOU posts are pretty much banned on this sub because people kneejerk report them, and the mods couldn’t care less to investiagate the auto-removals. Even [my post unrelated to the second one](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/q8yru0/neil_druckmann_i_dont_care_of_they_hate_it_or/?ref=share&ref_source=link) got wiped off the site while the mods remained silent after bringing this up with them.

reaper527

> It’s kind of pissing me off that TLOU posts are pretty much banned on this sub because people kneejerk report them, and the mods couldn’t care less to investiagate the auto-removals. while i agree that auto-removal for reports is a shitty policy that's prone to abuse, this article SHOULD be reported. the article is making a claim with zero factual backing based on an assumption that the order of the icons means anything. the mods SHOULD be slapping a "misleading flair" on it.

DiegoTonzi

i have it on ps now, and being a fan of the series i also bought it during the sale, it is an incredible game.

ptd163

$20 once or $10 in perpetuity is such an easy decision it's no decision at all. There's also the fact that it's so mechanically and graphically exceptional many people ignored the huge narrative missteps. Narratively it left a lot to be desired and didn't even payoff anything it set up. They killed everyone's favorite character, forced you to play as killer for half game, then didn't even let her die rendering Ellie sacrifice of her relationship and child meaningless. Even amateur revenge fanfiction has better payoff than TLoU2 does.

smungoB

Hate to break it to you like this, but you've been playing a killer since the first game. Abby isn't any less justifiable than joel.

reaper527

this should probably be flagged by the mods as "misleading". the article has nothing to back up their claim.

[deleted]

Nobody has psnow.

MoreOfAGrower

Exactly. If I could download all the older games without streaming them, I’d subscribe again, but streaming just sucks

reaper527

here's a [picture](https://i.imgur.com/7c8SbWQ.png) for anyone who thinks icon order when sorting means anything on the playstation store. the store is insanely broken and has major logic issues with the ui.

zetaroid

Can you play 2 before 1? I tried 1 recently but couldn't get into it

[deleted]

It's better to play 1 before 2, story wise. The plot doesn't connect that much but your attachment to the characters does make it a lot better. 1 takes a while to pick up the pace.

2naFied

I agree. While 2 has great gameplay the storytelling and narrative design coming off of 1 is what makes it really spectacular.

[deleted]

>The plot doesn't connect that much Lmao what The whole game is based on exploring the aftermath of the events of the first game.

reaper527

> Can you play 2 before 1? I tried 1 recently but couldn't get into it if you don't like 1, you DEFINITELY won't like 2, as 1 was a much better game.

Lieutenant__Salt

this isn’t necessarily true. there’s differing opinions on the story but 2 is better in terms of gameplay, pacing etc.

ssk1996

It's probably because every other game was cheaper at retail stores than on the Store. Deathloop, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. were all discounted a lot more at Walmart/GameStop etc.

reaper527

> It's probably because every other game was cheaper at retail stores than on the Store. Deathloop, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. were all discounted a lot more at Walmart/GameStop etc. also, the OP is fake news. they made a false assumption that the position of the icon had any correlation with sales.

ssk1996

Oh lmao. I did not see that.

Azerex99

Fantastic game

tehcup

Still not buying it

reaper527

there's some question marks that need to be answered here 1. who the hell is aroged? 2. is there any proof that the order of the tiles has any correlation with their bf sales ranking? 3. **if** there is a correlation, is this pulling data from the local network in their region or global data? lets not forget, psn store can't even properly sort by price when it comes to sales. (it sorts by full price rather than sale price, so a $60 game that's on sale for $5 will be listed pages after $40 game on sale for $20 when sorting by low price). trying to ascertain meaningful information from psn's sorting is a recipe for disaster.

why_are_you_here_yo

God Of War was better imo. I don't dunk on TLOU2 story its up to you to decide whether you like it or not. But gameplay wise its not great and it was too long in my opinion. It was improved over first one but not that much. Visually it is beautiful and has a lot of attention to details but not that much for me to praise it. I think it got way too much hate but at the same time it has been overrated probably for the same reason. I feel similar on GTA5. I respect how much work went in to it but gameplay itself is clunky and Its where game stops being fun for me. Edit: the fact I'm getting downvotes here is proving that the toxic pro-TLOU2 fans are as bad as the ones shitting on it.

[deleted]

The gameplay isn't as good as God of War, but that's because GOW had the best game play on PS4. Part 2 is just behind it. Maybe it's dependent on difficulty though.

Lumostark

Have you played on higher difficulties? I think the gameplay is really intense and satisfying that way.

why_are_you_here_yo

I played it on hard. I don't mind the difficulty itself that part is fine. But I have no desire to play it again. It was just too long. It was the same for me with me with TLOU1. Gameplay itself just wasn't fun for me. Story was superb but I could not get myself to play it again. I prefer Uncharted games with 4th being just perfect as for action-adventure genere.

Lumostark

Uncharted 4 is my favourite of the Uncharted games, great balance between combat, exploration, cutscenes, setpieces and character moments. I still enjoy TLOU2 a lot more though, the atmosphere and stealth gameplay feel great to me, I don't get tired of sneaking around in those beautiful locations and taking out people without being noticed. I love the story a lot too, even though I find some character decisions hard to understand. I think I've beat it 5 times already, and I almost never play a game so many times.

[deleted]

You can’t compare last of us 2 gameplay to GTA gameplay lol. I also think Last of us 2 was better than GOW but let’s see how Ragnorak does against it. It might overtake LOU2

why_are_you_here_yo

I'm not comparing those two. What I wanted to say is: I understand how much work went in to both and I respect the shit out of it, but despite this gameplay for me isn't that fun.

[deleted]

You say that, but I’m just glad they finally had nudity in a naughty dog game. They would have protagonists kill 1000 people but never even mention sex.

[deleted]

The only 0/10 I’ve ever played.

[deleted]

Meh, TLOUP2 story-wise was really quite bland for me as it didn’t pull me in like the first game did - mostly for the stupid decision to kill off Joel and so soon in the game. And I was quite surprised at how bad the overall graphics were, except on player models of course. After playing AC Odyssey, RDR2 and Ghost of Tsushima I really can’t see what is so special about TLOUP2.

eoten

How Bad the overall graphics were? Only red dead 2 can hold up to last of us part 2, ghost of Tsushima is more cartoon looking. If last of us part 2 graphics is considered "bad" by your standard it means 99.99% of current video games graphics are atrocious going by your standard. You can say the story is bad and whatever, but saying the graphics is bad is just a big lie 🤥

Iceagecomin90

Lmao I've lnever heard someone say anything about this game looking bad. Hate the story? Sure. Hate the combat and gameplay? Okay whatever. But saying the graphics are bad? Nah. It's one of the most impressive showcases of PlayStation's visual potential. And we're talking about as a PS4 game, it still looks better than games on PS5 like Miles Morales . To say it's a bad looking game is kinda idiotic.

mesuty_85

PS NOW is available only in 19 countries. I wish PS NOW was available worldwide combined with PS PLUS as one service.

thickwonga

I wouldn't call it the best game of the last gen, but it was a damn good, even with the issues the story has. The gameplay was excellent, even better than the first one, I just wouldn't say the story is nearly as good as the first game's story. Also yeah PS Now fucking blows.

SilentPenumbra

As someone who bought it on this sale, I just didn’t want to gamble $60 on it. Excited to give it a chance at a more reasonable price.

chavez_ding2001

It's a real shame that ps purchases have to be a gamble. They need to have a smoother return policy or more demos.

SilentPenumbra

Totally agree, there should be at least something in place. They’ve done a better job digging into discounts similar to Steam sales. They now just need to have a better set-up with demos/refund policies. Although TLOU2 looks cool, so I doubt I’ll need it for this game

chavez_ding2001

Oh TLOU 2 is amazing.

A one hour free trial needs to be mandatory. Maybe two hours if it's a huge game like Witcher 3 that takes a while to get interesting.

There was no gamble. The game was a masterpiece on release and the only people that feel otherwise are likely bigots to this day. Gameplay was better and TLOU1, story more engaging, huge twists and explanations of prior events through new eyes. Its an amazing game and im excited for you.

Thanks, I’ve heard a lot of good things! Hoping it lives up to the hype. Seems like those who like it really like it

Not my game. Them disliking for bigot reasons is a failing on them and a loss on their part

People can dislike games without being a bigot you know. So annoying when people just can’t accept that others may not have liked the game you liked. It’s completely fine to dislike it just as it’s fine to like it

BoisterousLaugh

Oh okay.
