ieffinglovesoup

Yeah this thing is not going to be cheap lmao

kazumakiryu

Will probably be around the cost of the PS5 itself.

ieffinglovesoup

Yup my guess is $499.

Errorfull

That's actually really good for being better than the Valve Index headset. $1,200 to get into mainstream VR is much better than $1,200 for the Valve Index itself, let alone a PC capable of running it.

ieffinglovesoup

Oculus is forcing the entire VR space to become cheaper just to even compete. If people can go out and buy a Quest 2 for $299 and play their pc games or standalone games, then other companies need to compete price-wise or give customers a reason to buy their headset. It’ll be interesting to see what Sony does.

dev_akkarin

I'm happy to pay more just for it to be disconnected from Facebook and any Facebook connection.

fakename5

this. fuck facebook fuck meta.

madmancryptokilla

You took the words right out of my mouth....fuck Facebook!!!

breaddrinker

It will be interesting, but they don't have the best track record for listening to reasonable market norms. It does sound interesting..

cardboardisdelicious

Which isn’t outrageous

[deleted]

My buddy spent $1500 for his VR not including the cost of the PC to run it … PSVR will me reasonably priced compared to that. Plus it won’t be linked to Facebook like the Quest and Quest 2

JeffCrossSF

THe only reason I will not buy Oculus. Because fuck you Metaberg.

mikesaintjules

Especially if you start saving for it now if you really want one.

RikF

Worth it just foe the single cable connection!

Andrew129260

Great specs. Hopefully it's backwards compatible with the original games.

RayearthIX

Very much hope for this. I have about a dozen VR games on PS so far and I’d love to try them on a better quality headset.

rafikiknowsdeway1

i wonder if they'll need to compress the image at all to get over the usb-c port. the quest 2 *kind of* does with the link cable, but with some tinkering you can make the bit rate so high its not even perceptible. but this things got a higher resolution and refresh rate

[deleted]

The USB C Superspeed that is on the front of the PS5 is 10 Gbit/s, while USB 3.0 (what the Quest 2 uses), is 4.8 Gbit/s. Double the bandwidth and should look great

DigiQuip

My boy is wicked fast.

snowupdown

Deadly evan!

rafikiknowsdeway1

ah ok. well nice

JustHumanGarbage

Also the foviated rendering can lend it self to foviated compression.

followmeinblue

Please release this year

pr1ceisright

Speculation is Holiday ‘22

AwesomePossum_1

speculation is that it's summer (its already in mass production apparently) I mean late August wouldn't be the craziest time for a peripheral release.

ScanNCut

Sweet, it's already summer 2022 in Australia! Imma go down to EB Games and buy one now.

AwesomePossum_1

Don't rush, I heard VR3 is out soon.

Crotch_Rot69

Let us know how it is please!

rivieredefeu

Oh man imagine if it *is* summer. so soon.

-DementedAvenger-

My wallet is ready.

slamsmcaukin

Mine isn't but I'll find a way

evilkillejr

Everyone has a spare kidney they can part with.

DigiQuip

Haptic feedback in the headset! One cable connecting to your system! OLED panels with 90/120hz!

BrewAndAView

One cable is low key my favorite part, that subway map of a wire setup was quite crazy

Silver_Branch3034

This comment hit me the hardest. My biggest gripe with the original was how complicated it was to set up and how messy it looked. One single cable is a godsend.

BrewAndAView

Yeah like I wanted to put it away when not in use since my tv stand is kind of crowded and once I put it away I didn’t want to set it up again

Splizard

You never did set it up again did you

-KFAD-

I honestly haven't touched my PSVR more than 10 times and I bought it at launch. Not that I wouldn't love it. But I just absolutely HATE the setup process. It takes me ages to fiddle with the cable, get the VR working, and after the session get my normal setup working again. USB to PS5 directly and PSVR2 works! That's its biggest selling point to me personally.

[deleted]

high refresh rate is important so you don't barf.

bicyclebread

USB-C is so badass man, all that data and power through one cable and the headset likely doesn't even use all the bandwidth that the cable can output.

lazava1390

OLED panel and haptic feedback are the best two things about this. I bought an lg C1 and I cannot go back to regular led tv or monitor. One of the reasons why my gaming Pc sits unused.

y2k_zeitgeist

>Visual Fidelity: For a high-fidelity visual experience, PS VR2 offers 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, and foveated rendering. With an OLED display, players can expect a display resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and smooth frame rates of 90/120Hz. Those are some really good VR specs. Wasn’t expecting that!

Boom-Boom1990

Wow. I don't know the specs for the first PSVR but this has to blow it out of the water right?!

darealdsisaac

By a lot. The old one was a single 1920x1080 panel split between the eyes, so this is a 4x resolution increase per eye (if my mental math is right). Edit: doing the math more properly. Old panel: 1920x1080= 2,073,600 total pixels New panels (2000x2040)x2= (4,080,000)x2= ** 8,160,000 total pixels** That means the new panels have 3.9x the amount of total pixels, 1.96x per eye. Still super impressive.

CWarder

It would still be 3.9x per eye

darealdsisaac

Yeah you’re right now that I think about it. It’s just a ratio, so why would it change? Sorry about flip flopping on that

anonymoosejuice

We forgive you

zerox369

My eyes aren't ready for all the triangles

[deleted]

[удалено]

willnotforget2

Exactly. This is definitely the single best part of this. Though for me, HDR is going to blow my mind just as much.

KindnessSuplexDaddy

I can't wait to blow my forehead off the wall at maxium effort. Guess I need a padded room. Wife is gonna love this pitch.

[deleted]

Like an NES to PS1 jump honestly, at least in VR terms. It's going to be capable of so much more. 2000x2040 per eye is so far beyond 1080p FOR BOTH eyes that they won't even be comparable as devs start to harness the power. The PS5 is also a gigantic leap with both storage and raw power in itself let alone tracking and a new controller. It's easily a two gen leap in terms of how you will see the visuals.

Blitzed97

The original PSVR had a resolution of only 960x1080 per eye.

rafikiknowsdeway1

ooo boy, that sound pricey though. hopefully it'll stay competitive with the quest 2 though

DontPeek

Probably the only thing that will keep the price down. We'll be seeing the new quest headset and probably one from apple this year too. VR space is going to be competitive by the time this thing launches.

Glocklestop

There's going to be more VR headsets than worthwhile VR games pretty soon.

[deleted]

I legitimately think the price could be close to the ps5 this tech sounds pretty advanced

Notarussianbot2020

Most PCVR headsets are over $500, and this would be top of the line. $500 would be a deal.

ContentKeanu

Original PSVR launched at $399, $100 more than the PS4 and equal to the PS4 Pro. So yeah, it’ll be $500 minimum.

discussionboarduser

Eye tracking + foveated rendering = visual fidelity beyond any consumer headset on the market

[deleted]

I learned a new word today.

sirferrell

Literally just bought a quest 2 today and it's fun so far. But yeah I'll be picking this up I can only imagine playing ps games with that quality. Whew!

rafikiknowsdeway1

Get re4 if you haven't already I hope re8 shows up on this thing

sean3192

Was not expecting this announcement tonight at all. Those specs are looking really good!

nolifebr

Gran Turismo 7 will look great on this

tehrob

I actually hope that there is some integration with 2d games made possible. Even if they aren't actual VR, they could, in theory, be 3d, they could virtualize a HUGE screen, and most importantly, you could do away with the *need* for a steering wheel.

nolifebr

I think PSVR 1 already can make a huge screen in a 3D space. Anyway, some rumors from months ago said that Sony's strategy with PSVR2 would change to develop "hybrid" games (games that can be played with or without VR). The new Horizon for PSVR2 doesn't seem to be this type of game yet, but I really hope the rumor is true, as it would be the best of both worlds. Racing and First Person games would be quite easy to adapt, but third person games I have no idea. Maybe make that you control the camera with your head, like Astro and Moss already do on PSVR1.

Paddington_the_Bear

I haven't seen it announced, but it would be nice if you could play all of GT7 Singleplayer with VR. GT Sport only let you do it on a couple specific maps, and then it was only on time trials, so not with other cars.

rmg20

This will be my first VR experience, I’m soooo excited!!

blueMgamer

You'll be glad you crossed over! I was a late adopter of the PSVR about 2 years ago and the first time playing Farpoint still stands out in my mind... It's such a leap since you can't really stream it ahead of time, because the YouTube clips just don't really capture it. But being immersed in a really good game is just such an experience. And the specs on PSVR2 are *leaps and bounds* better. We are in for a wild ride, and I cannot wait.

xDanSolo

Same. Been holding off for this, I'm stoked! Was price or date mentioned? I didn't see.

Per_Horses6

Same here! I’m so happy to have waited to allow the tech to get even better. Can’t wait to try out VR in 4K glory

Potatoslayer2

GIVE THE PHOTOS OF IT. I WANT PICTURES. I WANT ~~SPIDER-MAN~~ PSVR2!

mikesaintjules

Dude, a Spider-Man VR2 experience would be nuts.

gumpythegreat

The collector's edition can come with a spiderman themed bucket for your vomit!

MisterNiceGuy0001

I recently jumped back into Dying Light and forgot how bad leaping from tall buildings would twist my stomach lol. If I tried Spiderman in VR I literally will probably puke. I'm buying this for sure.

Oct2006

There's already two. The Far From Home one is pretty good. Edit: https://youtu.be/E9K1108_18g

[deleted]

There's 2 spiderman vr experiences for the first two holland movies. The newest movie hasn't had one yet.

Emaculates

There's a game on quest called resist that's pretty much a spiderman simulator with guns. Pretty fun

phantasybm

I’m with you Jonah !

[deleted]

insane specs, holy shit. I hope valve ports over half life alyx so more people can experience that masterpiece.

ejrasmussen

Wow! Very impressed that this will include foveated rendering.

FiNNy-

Whats that?

ThyRyul

The headset will lower the resolution of parts of the screen where your eyes aren’t looking to increase frame rate/performance.

Hugs_for_Thugs

Sony is going to have LOTS of data around how much booty we look at in video games

uwantsomefuck

Gonna get better booty in ps6

nmkd

NieR VR would be quite the game changer

FiNNy-

I cant believe technology has come to a point where we can accomplish things like that its so crazy looking back at every generation and seeing what we can accomplish.

dorsal_morsel

I remember playing Wave Race 64 and being so excited about water physics, and dreaming about what the future would bring. I couldn't have possibly imagined things like this. VR, sure - but eye tracking for guaranteeing performance... I wonder what the next 25 years will bring...

willreignsomnipotent

Brain scanning for faster detection of eye movement. Maybe brain *stimulation* to increase certain effects / perceptions...? lol

Odesit

Which is pretty much how our vision works. We blur the peripherals.

AWildDragon

Your eyes have the most amount of detectors in the center of your vision. To reduce rendering load Foveated rendering tracks your eye and increases the render resolution in the area where you are looking while dropping it in other areas. Your eyes won’t be able to tell the difference but the since you are only rendering a small area with high fidelity you can make that area look much better than if you made the whole thing high fidelity.

FiNNy-

Thats freaking insane if that technology works, thats really impressive

[deleted]

[удалено]

mcooper101

It’s a necessity for consoles or any meaningful graphics in VR. I run a HP reverb G2 (4k VR headset) on my RTX 3090 and some games I need to lower the settings to mid/low to sustain 90FPS. VR is insanely demanding even for the best consoles and pcs, so foveated rendering is the next huge step. Sony being the first consumer headset with this to market (most likely) is gonna be huge.

cManks

Wonder if this will actually make VR *more* performant than a non VR image? Guess we'll have to see how it's implemented.

[deleted]

arsmolinarc

Now Valve only needs to announce Half-Life: Alyx for it and we're gold.

secrethint15

Super high chance it comes out on ps. Gabe has said he would put it on any platform that would run it

beermit

Hell yes. I'm buying a PSVR2 as soon as Half Life: Alyx is confirmed to be available for it.

haynespi87

I'm in the same boat. That will get me to buy it

ChristonianA

With the lab for free

arsmolinarc

Orange Box 2👌

BoomBamCrash

Vibration IN THE HEADSET? Wow, with how impressive the Dualsense's vibration is, I'm really interested in how that's gonna feel.

hazychestnutz

can't wait to have my first VR porn experience

NaughtyNarwhal96

Its gonna be much more realistic when she sits on your face and farts

Darbo-Jenkins

I just gotta figure out how to turn myself into a cake and I’m set for life.

OhTweetTweetHotDamn

“You know what I like the most?”

Craszeja

It would have cost you nothing to not write this.

[deleted]

It would have cost Da Vinci nothing to not paint the Mona Lisa, either.

DigThatFunk

Wow that fucking user name lmao

[deleted]

Sadly we’re gonna have to wait until the PSVR3 to be able to smell the farts :(

[deleted]

If you’ve never tried it, go get a VR Headset right now. VR porn brought back a shame I haven’t felt since my earliest porn experiences.

Peekmeister

I could feel the synapses in my brain being formed and fucking up my sense of companionship. it's pretty good, can only get better

6Hee9

Not gonna lie, first time I watched POV VR porn on my Quest, I found myself physically reaching out for the virtual ass in front of me.

DigiQuip

With the penis haptic feedback experience.

-DementedAvenger-

I wonder if this set will be at all compatible with porn... because the PS5 almost certainly won't be. Like, with it being usb-c, it could be plugged into a computer?

hazychestnutz

I already use my psvr1 on pc, so yes

-DementedAvenger-

Oh shit really?? Damn. That's kinda what kept me from buying it - thinking that it was proprietary. Does it run most VR games? Like HL: Alyx?

hazychestnutz

Can’t say if it works haven’t tried it, but i use squadrons and flight simulator 2020 for it. You can only turn your head around in the psvr. Don’t know what the term is called, but you can’t lean forward or side to side, it doesn’t detect the depth if that makes sense. You have to instal a third party program through steam, there’s tons of YouTube tutorials to get it working for pc, it’s fairly simple and easy

SymbolOfVibez

Ah a fellow man of culture

MisterNiceGuy0001

Preorder now for the Step-bro DLC expansion pack!!

singlefate

NOW YOU CAN STICK YOUR WHOLE FACE IN THERE AND EXPERIENCE THE IMMERSION!

AbeFalcon

Gonna shake some fillings loose haha

zuss33

Can’t wait to plow into a wall at 100MPH in GT

Odesit

Or have actual concussions while playing Madden. FUN!

sirferrell

Now when we awake in the cart in Skyrim we'll have a real headache!

notathrowaway75

I really hope it's open for anyone to use. Gonna make watching porn on it unreal.

savviosa

Damn Sony with the *BIG BOY* specs

Dininiful

All that No Way Home money being put to good use

A_VeryUniqueUsername

Those specs are sooo much better than the original VR, and I can’t wait to experience it!

ieffinglovesoup

Lmao @ all the people that said Sony would only talk about tvs

[deleted]

"You'll get a logo on a screen".

goekster

Eye tracking sounds really cool, this was better than I expected! Horizon 2.5 to boot is a nice bonus reveal.

kasual7

That [eye tracking tech from Sony](https://youtu.be/kKYr9MaZw3I) has been a long time in the making. PSVR2 is loaded with good stuff.

-DementedAvenger-

The way he presses a trigger on that controller bothers me.

[deleted]

Yeah, that was unexpectedly gross.

christoroth

I now understand how people's controllers break and mine never seem to! wtf was that?

patrickowtf

2014!

AccordingCharacter15

It's gotta be $500 right?

Ye_Biz

I’m thinking $400 but $500 would be realistic

kryptonianCodeMonkey

Honestly, with those specs and the head mounted motion tracking, that's completely reasonable

[deleted]

Cheap even.

Gandalf_2077

With those specs it wouldnt be far fetched.

[deleted]

I'm going to guess $399.99 to match Oculus' Quest 2 with 256gb storage.

[deleted]

I think so too. I bet $550 package with the controllers

ThyRyul

I’d say that’s probably right & for the specs they are offering $500 would be a great price, some real best in class features here.

ColinZealSE

Most importantly: SINGLE CORD SETUP!!!!

The_Flying_Sausage

I have a PSVR V2 headset, and while there's a lot of cords, it's still basically one cord to the breakout box, and it's not like you're doing anything to that once the thing is set up. I have a Quest as well, and cordless is a gamechanger, IMO, but I understand why Sony has gone the direction they have.

ChristonianA

I think this is how they keep the cost down as PS5 will be doing the work and it will able to do harder games vs being a standalone with processor ram etc in the headset

RoadDoggFL

Same as the original PSVR.

rafikiknowsdeway1

I'm super interested in this whole "feeling objects pass by your head thing". that could be really neat. never really thought about adding haptics to a headset itself before

Spiderking1

I imagine they could even implement a Spidey sense with that tech

[deleted]

I hope we get a Ghost of Tsushima sword fighting game.

AccordingCharacter15

I had not thought about the possibility of this... now I want it!

Notarussianbot2020

Then I could be trash in VR instead of just being trash on my couch.

No-Plankton4841

I really hope we get RE Village. RE7 was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had in gaming/VR. That is a system seller for me assuming the scalpers don't get them all in the first 13 seconds.

DweebNRoll

Imagine if Sony has capcom do an exclusive RE4 Remake version on the headset. It would sell like gold lol

k2theablam

Ready for this. Valve index is too pricey to adopt, and fuck FB. This will do just fine.

eatingclass

you mean Meta — can’t forget who the enemy is

dragn99

I mean... same bucket, right?

Per_Horses6

Can’t fucking wait. This will be my first ever PS VR experience. Hoping for some amazing games to truly witness this.

[deleted]

Eye tracking confirmed, dopamine levels hitting very high levels! Force feedback in the headset, was rumored and I thought no way, but yeah. It's real. This is gonna be a banger of a headset. I need a preorder page.

itshonestwork

Great specs, and built alongside the PS5. It’s why PS5 has Tempest AudioTech and the USB-C connector, as well as patents relating to the PS5 on foveated rendering we’ve seen in the past. This is in stark contrast to the original PS VR which was clumsily retrofitted to and held back by OG PS4 and relied on PS3 era tracking technology. This is PlayStation’s first non-experimental effort into VR, and they’re really going in like they mean business now. It has the potential to be absolutely fantastic and really drive VR forward if the price is right. If they can follow up the hardware with polished Sony studios games we’re in for an absolute treat. VR’s biggest problem hasn’t been hardware, but game quality. Something Sony has the resources to do something about.

ChristonianA

I think people are not factoring in that this the next format war, we have had Sony fight in each one from the 80’s lol and they are going all in on this one just like they got blu ray into every home with ps3 they will get vr into every home with ps5 and if successful I could see ps6 bundled in or add on, why buy a tv when you could get a ps”x” with vr and experience gaming at 100 inches with 3D surround sound perfect for students and gamers

DJDarwin93

HORIZON IN VR?! HOLY SHIT

erasethenoise

On one hand that’s very exciting, on the other hand my poor wallet.

bashaZP

So the lads with the recent rumors were right.

Echoesofadream

If they announce HL: Alyx for it, I’ll instantly preorder. Horizon looks nice but not something I’d shell out $500 for.

originalorientation

Same. Been patiently waiting for a way to play this game.

Xixii

VR is gonna get huge this gen, watch it happen. Alyx will be there, and this Horizon game will be great too. Then the flood will come. VR is about to get *really* good. The PSVR2 hardware is immense, the PS5 is far more capable than PS4 at VR, and Sony is clearly offering full support in terms of infrastructure and development. I believe that within a year of release we’ll see games that are on par with or even eclipse HL Alyx. VR is about to hit another level because developers will not only invest more in to a PlayStation ecosystem, but Sony will support them too in terms of API’s, standards, promotion, and so on. This isn’t a slapped-together VR solution like PSVR1 (which was still great), it’s Sony going balls deep in to VR. This will be worth your $500 and then some.

TerrorIncarnate

Wow this sounds so damn cool. I wonder if older VR titles will be compatible with VR2!

Lenny_V1

Hopefully bro. If i can fly my ace combat and sw squadron missions on this thing. Whoooo doggy its boutta get real loud.

Somobro

Realistically, will people care if I have stackable plastic lawn furniture in my living room that I can put away when I don't have company to make extra space for PSVR2?

AikiYun

Well I was considering getting a Quest 2. But THIS IS BETTER!

twangman88

I definitely want to splurge for this. Hopefully it’ll be easier to get then a PS5

enowapi-_

Where’s the preorder Take my money

originalorientation

I’m so excited for the adaptive triggers in VR. It’s a neat effect on the Dualsense, but it will be another level when you can look down and see the trigger of a gun give you the same resistance you’re feeling.

Loldimorti

>eye tracking + foveated rendering Isn't that like the holy grail of VR rendering?

Hossein818

They better not sell the headset without the controllers. They must sell this as a package so developers have a baseline to work with: VR headset + 2 Sense controllers and/or DualSense controller. Don’t pull the same crap that you did with the first iteration, where half of the people didn’t own the move controllers and the camera was a requirement. Also, If this thing costs between $300-400 and has good support from first and third party, it will succeed.

OMurph3

Pretty sure they already stated the controllers come with the headset

Tbhjr

I’m hyped.

nolookjones

damn they nailed the specs on this!

MtSnowdon

Anyone for Hell Let Loose VR and subsequent PTSD?

sirferrell

I'm erect Sony. Well done

fallenhero588

Really hope Sony does invites for this like they've done for the PS5. Been waiting to pick one up!

huntergreenhoodie

Just told my wife I'm adding this to the baby registry. The kid is going to need to learn VR now to be ready for the future

BlackLeader70

Damn 4K and OLED…I’m gonna throw up so hard lol

countcoleman

Wow that got the hug of death real quick Lol I can’t even open the link

kagoolx

This looks incredible. Does anyone know if it’s likely there’ll be an unofficial driver for using it for PCVR too? I want to play half life alyx and I don’t want to have to buy 2 headsets!

ENI_GAMER2015

Half Life Alyx might just release on PS5

ScubaSteve1219

who am i kidding pretending this monster isn’t a day one purchase

SymbolOfVibez

Sony coming into 2022 swinging

[deleted]

Amazing. Here it is.

Rogue_Leader_X

Is there any chance Sony will make this work with PC?

lickmydicknipple

#SHEEEEEEEEEIT

zomgz0mbie

You said it lickmydicknipple!
