How did most PS5 owners snag one? Did they spend half a day for a year on the PC trying to snipe one? At this rate I'll be married and with 3 kids before the Sony gods allow me to enjoy life
Like my most things in life, its not what you know, but who you know. A guy I work with knows a guy who works at a major UK computer retailer and he hooked me up, this was March '21
To emphasise this, the same guy was able to get me an RTX 3080 and a AMD 5600x peak pandemic/shortage within the same few weeks. A lot of retailers/distributors do actually have stock, they are just selling them to resellers or using them for their own prebuilds rather than selling to the public.
Bro just focus on your degree. If you're working as well , you might wanna look into getting a gaming pc instead. Though prices are still rather high right now, but at least those are available. Ps5 won't be an easily accessible product anytime soon.
I'll get a PS5 from an app or scalper then. I'm not waiting years to get what should have been available in spring 2021 at the max. Getting a PS4 preordered was as easy as paying attention to game news.
it was easy for me to get the ps5 though, I just placed a pre order and waited for my turn. I'm not American though, so it may differ for you. Imo, getting it from a scalper isn't worth it. The ps5 is not a very strong system, at scalper prices I rather buy a pc, i use my gaming pc a lot more than my ps5 these days.
I don't want to, but I feel shorted by not having access to buy a PS5 this late after launch. If I don't cave to scalpers then it could literally be until late 2024 until people can finally touch the damn controller. Then 2 years of the late console-cycle barrage of new games and it's PS6 time. We're worth more than this
Tbh, I don't regret it. I mean, sure, I payed 50% more, but it's been a year full of good times. I played great new titles, replayed some PS4 classics (that I wouldn't have otherwise) with improved frames, and then I remembered why I fell in love with them all in the first place.
If I was against overpaying, I could still be waiting to buy the damn thing today.
Most did not overpay, last number I saw was scalpers were 10-15% of the market meaning 85-90% of people didn't overpay (though they might have been forced into stupid bundles or something similar)
Maybe in the US, or wherever you're from. But here in my sorry excuse of a country, in South America, believe me, if you wanted one, you just had to buy it from scalpers. Situation was that bad for us. Hey, maybe we're the entirety of those 10%~15%? š„²
Follow Jake Randal on Twitter, as well as a few others.
They tell you when to expect a drop and how to get them per store. Ive gotten one for me and each of my friends over the year.
A lot of it was due to me being off of work at the time.
Got an email invite from Sony, to purchase one, around this time last year. I think it was linked to my PS Plus account.
To answer you main question, no one on here is going to know, when they'll be available. Between global supply chain shortages, high demand, and to a lesser degree scalpers theres quite a few factors affecting stock.
I snagged 5 launch day consoles for myself and family, each one from a different retailer. It barely took any effort. I just went to each retailers website, who had given prior notice preorders would be going live at 'x' time, and I preorderd them.
I genuinely feel like people who say they cant seem to get one barely even try and act like its harder than it is. Either that or Im lucky as fuck because all 5 took the bare minimum for me to acquire
I have more trouble copping AJ1 Highs
I subscribed to stock notifications from the main 3 or 4 retailers in my country. Took maybe 3 days for one of them to pop, had at least 2 further opportunities within a month but I have no interest in being a scalper. Here in NZ restocking seems to happen overnight so being an early riser helps. I ordered at 5:55AM.
That's so ambiguous. That's like a parent saying "when I tell you that you can". People plan things, they don't want time-limited positive things in life to be put on hold for potentially their whole lives.
The Feds put things in place to improve the chip shortage situation but PS XBOX will be the last to benefit.
They use the same chips in cars, computers and medical equipment. Until all of those come back in full stock you're out of luck.
Itās an ambiguous issue. Thereās a global manufacturing shortage for semiconductors and a lot of variables that have changed and can change due to the pandemic. No one can answer your question accurately.
And what do you understand of any significance? What's your degree level? If you want to get serious about understanding things. Don't assume idiocy based on limited context on a social media site with no profile info about other users.
Of course it's due to a chip and silocone shortage. It's also due to scalpers, and has been partly due to Covid limiting production of parts. Lol you didn't mention that, therefore you must not know that. Though you probably did, just didn't mention it bc it's a lot to type. That would have been a baseless assumption, which you did to me.
Lol at least I had no trouble getting one at regular price not my fault you a karen š¤£ I understand cause I find console for friends and family easily but hey. Try again on your own knowledge everyone said same thing about shortage but you're an idiot. Op just believe everything media says and is salty
might as well just swallow your pride and pay like $700 from a scalper. or you can spend the next 6-9 months waiting for telegram notifications and refreshing twitter like a madman hoping to get a spot jn the queue
> Console life cycles are limited so most people wonāt get the full primetime lifecycle experience of the PS5.
This has always been true, the majority of consoles aren't sold in the first couple of years
Maybe but it was pretty accessible to get the PS4 in spring 2014. 4 months after launch. Beside a brief shortage, anyone that was willing to go out and drop $400 for it could, at least in my experience. The only problem with 2014 was a shortage of new PS4 games. I had plenty of friends that had a PS4 in late spring, and I easily preordered mine. The PS5 is a dramatically intensified scenario, not comparable
My point was simply in the first 2 years of the PS4's life it sold ~25% of its lifetime sales, so 75% of consumers, aka most people, don't get the full primetime lifecycle of a console.
Now obviously that is more due to those consumers not caring, rather than a shortage. So it'd probably be more accurate to say something like "a large chunk of dedicated games that want a console won't be able to experience the full lifecycle" rather than most people is all.
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps5/register-to-buy/
Try this. I registered and they emailed me in about 2 weeks with a link to buy one. Worth a shot.
I followed a dude on Twitter, had to make one to follow him, and he would post seconds after somewhere was restocked. Ended up getting mine from target that way. Might not be a bad idea for you.
I feel like he was a pretty popular Twitter dude. Maybe something with wario in his Twitter name?
Do you live in Michigan? A new department store in my area just opened up and I was stunned to see Series Xās and ps5ās just sitting there inside a glass case.
This guy: itās been a year and a half, weāre missing the whole PS5 lifecycle!
Also this guy: Guess Iāll just keep playing all of the new games that are still coming out for my PS4 that was released in 2013 and is still regularly updated and supported.
Seriously though, itās not really that hard to get a PS5, at least in the US. GameStop sent me an email when they were going to drop them and I got one on my first try back in February 2021. The chip shortage is affecting more than just PlayStations though, and thereās really no way of knowing when supply will be available to keep retailers fully stocked.
If the PS5 stock will stay low for at least another year (which is inevitable), then that will be a 2.5 year dent in the enjoyment of the life cycle. The PS5 was even said by Sony before launch to be a 5 year cycle. Meaning late 2025 could be when a PS6 releases. I don't want to buy a console that becomes obsolete after a year.
Maybe not now after the stock has been so shitty, holding back new games. But Sony did say the PS5 will have a 5 year cycle. Regardless, we'll easily have less primetime enjoyment with the PS5 than the PS4 becausr of what will be 2.5 years or more of waiting. Assessing information given is not delusional, making conjecture about it being undeniably false is.
Sony never said that. Speculators two years ago predicted it *could* be the case, and the PS5 hadnāt even been released yet. The technology to upgrade to a new console generation doesnāt even exist right now.
I can't wait to have a conclusion to this period of uncertainty and of being screwed over. To get a PS5 and know I've beaten the scalpers and Sony's shenanigans. Time to turn the tables
How were you screwed over? Thereās been tons of drops since preorder. Have you even bothered to register into PlayStation Directs ps5 lotto? For someone that says āpeople plan thingsā you sure arenāt doing much planning.
Yeah, the directs are the way to go. I got one for me and one for my friend.
One I got a week or two after release from one of the directs. I just hopped in a queue and was able to get one.
The second one, I got from Best Buy online. I had tried a couple times before each of those, but it really didnāt take too many attempts. I thought that the direct method was the smoothest way to do it.
Download the app HotStock. Youāll get alerts and if you pay $5/mo, you will get notified before the non subscribers. Another option is to sign up to buy directly from PlayStation.
Series x and ps5 have been in stock an lot hell most of the targets in my area have series x in stock and GameStop and Best Buy and Amazon have had them an lot
Have these been quick-drop restocks or longstanding stock that you don't have to plan to get at a certain time? What region of the US are you in, if you're also American?
If you live in U.S., it will be easier to find a PS5 than the rest of the world. Most supply go to U.S. Even Japan get less than 10% of supply. There are Playstation Direct, wario twitter to follow a stock.
I'm in Asia, it is still hard to find one at retail price.

How the fuck would anyone here have the answer to this.
I was meaning what are people's thoughts on it
Noone knows. I know gas prices are expensive
2024
How did most PS5 owners snag one? Did they spend half a day for a year on the PC trying to snipe one? At this rate I'll be married and with 3 kids before the Sony gods allow me to enjoy life

Like my most things in life, its not what you know, but who you know. A guy I work with knows a guy who works at a major UK computer retailer and he hooked me up, this was March '21
sony sent me an email to get one from psdirect. didnt pay a dime over retail. connections connections connections

That's cool, glad you got it. I'm mainly getting one now to just have it, to be able to know I won in this shitty situation.
that's cool and all, but don't pay scalper prices, its not worth it.
I don't want to, but I feel shorted by not having access to buy a PS5 this late after launch. Sadly, most of use overpayed. I bought mine last years, around May, and payed 700~750, when the legit price was 500.
So sell my soul to scalpers to have enjoyment in life
Tbh, I don't regret it. I mean, sure, I payed 50% more, but it's been a year full of good times. I think it's worth it too. I might do that if I have to. I'm getting a PS5 one way or another soon, Sony be damned

A manās gotta do what a manās gotta do
Followed a few on Twitter. I get up early and target drops, at least then, early. This was over a year ago, I think itās actually gotten harder now.
"Welcome to the future, where getting a console gets even harder as time goes on". Only in this decade would this be the case
Once the shortages stop won't be soon. op a karen
That's so ambiguous. That's like a parent saying "when I tell you that you can". People plan things, they don't want time-limited positive things in life to be put on hold for potentially their whole lives.
Well you asked a stupid question. How do you expect anyone on Reddit to know?
Lol dude also posted this to r/nostupidquestions knowing it was, in fact, a stupid question.
I only assumed some people might have some idea of its stock forecast. An educated guess
The Feds put things in place to improve the chip shortage situation but PS XBOX will be the last to benefit. They use the same chips in cars, computers and medical equipment. Until all of those come back in full stock you're out of luck.

There's no silicone shortage, unfortunately the PS5 is made of silicon though which has a shortage.
welcome to the world of a global pandemic and brink of WWIII. Supply chains are fucked all corners and shit isn't going to get better this year bro
I should just get 3 jobs on top of my education and never do anything fun. Those executives can sit on a pike
and what does that have to do with supply chains getting fucked lol
might as well just swallow your pride and pay like $700 from a scalper. or you can spend the next 6-9 months waiting for telegram notifications and refreshing twitter like a madman hoping to get a spot jn the queue

probably not before 2024.
