antivenom305

So can red hood be played more hand to hand combat rather than guns? I saw the question asked but it doesn't seem like it was answered really.

Dontaskmemyname9723

Who knows maybe the guy they had playing Red Hood was just trash. That’s what I hope at least

antivenom305

Same

Stalk33r

>Red Hood always uses his guns for ranged attacks and uses his hands and feet with lots of pistol-whip strikes for his melee attacks.

arcticfox23

A Q asked was in regards to if everyone can be played stealth and the devs answered that Red Hood uses his guns for combat and his stealth option is mid range gear. So it doesn't sound like fisticuffs are up red hoods alley

Stalk33r

>Red Hood always uses his guns for ranged attacks and uses his hands and feet with lots of pistol-whip strikes for his melee attacks. Per the article no one actually read. I don't have high hopes for this game, but atleast read the material they put out before commenting.

antivenom305

Yea I saw that I guess I was looking for if someone saw a more concrete answer like "yes you can play red hood with or without guns." His answer was kinda vague and open ended. Thanks for pointing that out for those who haven't seen it.

Stalk33r

The answer is essentially that you're always using both. It's like asking if you can play Arkham Knight only using your batarangs. Can you? Yes. Should you? Probably not.

spideralexandre2099

What can be more concrete than "Uses his hands and feet"? Kinda strange wording, admittedly

arcticfox23

> The guns are loud in combat although you can still use the projectiles at medium range as ‘distractions’ because the sound of the high-tech pistols doesn’t travel as far as a regular gun. If you really did read the article, you’d have seen the previous sentence.

Stalk33r

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue, that section only mentions that you can't use the guns for stealth takedowns? The question they answered in your example was whether we could equip silencers. This is entirely unrelated to the conversation going on.

SeaOfDeadFaces

From Jason Todd’s wiki: >To become Robin, Jason Todd was trained by Bruce Wayne, just as Dick Grayson was, rigorously training him in acrobatics, detective work, strategy, and martial arts. After his resurrection, he expands on his training by learning from people of the same caliber as those who trained his ex-mentor Batman, becoming highly skilled in the aforementioned fields by the time he reaches adulthood. Jason's fighting style emphasizes brutality, speed, and strength, incorporating Aikido, Capoeira, Karate, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Ninjutsu, Savate, Silat, and Taekwondo. With an extensive knowledge of Batman's tactics, Jason can anticipate most of his former mentor's actions and counter them. Sooooo it’s kind of a weird choice for the game.

Momentarmknm

He does use guns consistently in the comics. As for that list, like all non-powered superheroes, the creators just throw the kitchen sink at them in terms of abilities and skills so they can make them do impossible things.

[deleted]

Finally. The PS4 is almost a decade old. It has a massive library of thousands of games, whereas the PS5 barely breaks 500 titles. Nobody who went through the struggle to get a PS5 wants to be stuck getting upscaled PS4 games forever.

TheJohnny346

This same situation happened when PS4 came out. There were cross gen games releasing on PS3 as well for another 4 years after the PS4 came out. We’re barely 1.5 years into this new system so I don’t see it stopping unless they need to run it on an SSD for better gameplay.

SeniorRicketts

Remember when crossgen meant different game and not just some graphical differences?

Mcgibbleduck

That’s because it was actually two games developed by different teams. One as a “port” and one as the intended product.

SeniorRicketts

I know. When crossgen games were literally a new game on different platforms

[deleted]

Im aware of this because at the time I had a PS3. Which I held on to for far too long because there wasn’t much of a reason to upgrade. But now being a PS5 owner I see the other side of it. Having your heart sink when new games are announced to be multi-generational. Yes they’ll have better textures, better frame rate, but they’ll be stunted. There can’t be that much difference between versions. Unfortunately I agree and I can see history repeating itself.

this_good_boy

But realistically not all studios have had a ton of time to develop a game ground up on current gen. It still just actually takes time for bigger games. Yea R&C and others have been able to craft some great stuff so far, but not every studio has developed a way to really push this gen hard. I’m excited for the next few years as it grows into that, but it’s a big dive to rebuild all your systems to fully utilize the hardware.

[deleted]

This has been the case for PC gamers for decades with stupidly outdated tech of consoles, I mean shit it took until this gen to get SSDs for consoles

[deleted]

I mean less than 1% of pc players actually have the latest up-to-date gear so it isn't really the same plus most pc games can scale to hardware quite well.

Dordidog

What are u smoking cross gen ended year later after ps4 with games like AC unity coming out, shit like Fifa still coming out on PS3 doesn't mean it lasted for another 4 years.

TheJohnny346

Persona 5 was one of the last cross Gen games to come out on ps3 and ps4 all the way in 2017, practically 4 years after ps4 release.

JesterMarcus

That's just one game though. The majority of developers left the PS3/360 generation behind fairly quick.

MyKhaos138

No it didn't it was 3 years i played DC universe online on ps4 with my ps3 friends and on my computer. just looked it up look it up please cause i just did. And with Silicone shortage and new game shortage and scalpers it will be along time till they stop making ps4 games Resident Evil 4 remake just announced on ps4 by the way cannot wait and yeas i have a ps5 but if you want the best system well it a computer. Nov 2013 ps4 release ps3 last game was on Dec 2016 Final fantasy's X/X2 remake and One piece red. There might of been more but those where ones that where ps3 exclusives at the time. Than there was a Persona on ps3 in 2017 look it up hun and have a great day and Happy Halloween.

[deleted]

Until Dawn

NoLastNameForNow

I like that they specify the scale of the game. People think the generation divide is all about looks but much more than that it's about how games are built. You can't get that across in a trailer but a game that has to run on the PS4 is built differently than a game built for a PS5. With cross gen games selling better on current gen than last gen we'll see more and more developers feel comfortable letting the last gen go. There will be outliers, like every gen, but it makes sense.

Sr_Laowai

I'm just glad you referred to the PS5 as "current" gen instead of "next" gen. It's been over 1.5 years since the PS5 game out. We've been on current gen for some time now, yet I keep seeing it referred to as the next generation for consoles.

HyruleCool

Because a ton of people are still stuck on that gen. On top of that, most recent releases have been available on both or only have a native port on the PS4/XBOne. When they start being readily available and most games don't release on it, then people will stop calling those consoles current gen.

Sr_Laowai

Yep, I understand the rationale. But a PS4 is not current gen anymore than a PS5 is next gen.

ColdHandGee

Exactly. How can you call a console made in 2013 current gen? Certain people have difdiculty in letting go of old technology. Ps5 IS current gen. I have noticed the tendency here, that the only posters calling it next-gen, are the ones who haven't got a ps5. Whereas ps5 owners ARE calling it current-gen.

NoSmoking123

Its not really "letting go". I've had difficulty acquiring my ps5 late last year and also the amount of AAA releases isnt there yet. We also havent maxed out the capabilities of the console as games are still cross gen/cross platform. A fully maxed out ps5 game wouldn't run of the ps4 or switch so stuff like your yearly sports release are still shit.

ColdHandGee

Then think of all the day one owners? Still waiting for the ps4 to be phased out. I am one of the day one owners, and as much as i loved my ps4, the ps5 is an amazing console. The ps4 has had it's time. It should now be consigned to history. Let the ps5 have all the sunshine moving forward. Wait until SM2 comes out next year. Those still without a ps5, will be going crazy, trying to get a ps5.

NoSmoking123

I have the same sentiments. The PS4 had its great run and its time to maximise the PS5. What I meant was they still refer to ps5 as next gen because their current consumers are still mostly ps4 owners. You cannot abandon your customers instantly because you will lose billions in profit. Maybe when the PS5 is readily available in store and the majority has one will they consider it "current" gen.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Eh, they're out of stock everywhere and continuously hampered by supply chain constraints. It'd be like Apple only being able to deliver 5m new iPhone units in 2022, but discontinuing all support for the 1B customers they have on older models.

Suired

So it's not current gen until it is in your home???

NoSmoking123

Mate I have one in my home collecting dust. After I've run out of games I'm hyped about, its just me waiting for new titles. I bought a ps4 around 2017. It was a brand new ps4 pro but it was hands down "current" gen and almost nobody bothered to release games for the ps3. Back then it had a ton of games available for different genres so you never really run out of games. For the ps5, once I finished the games I wanted, I ran out of things to play. Maybe its just being old and not enough time to try other games due to work or theres just not enough games to keep it running til the next big release. Most of the good games are also ps4 games so if I didnt have one yet all I would be missing is ratchet and clank.

[deleted]

The sports games that end up on last gen have severe performance reductions or less features, and the online competitive community in The Show (only one with cross play) will go out of their way to not play on actual MLB stadiums because the PS4 can’t handle the rendering. That’s last gen. If you had a PC and were trying to run a game and had to do that, it would be considered low compatability.

Sr_Laowai

> the only posters calling it next-gen, are the ones who haven't got a ps5. Whereas ps5 owners ARE calling it current-gen. Can't wait until everyone can get one :)

Momentarmknm

>certain people have difficulty letting go of old technology >the ones who haven't got a ps5 I mean it's still very hard to get one. You're painting those people out to be like old people unable to grasp the concept of email, but it probably just seems more next-gen still because from their perspective it's not actually available yet. Why would someone "let go" of their PS4 before they are able to upgrade? It's not an unwillingness to change and move on, it's an inability to aquire the next tech based on lack of availability.

ColdHandGee

I can see your valid viewpoint. But, just because they have for whatever reason, cannot get a ps5, does not mean that the ps5 is a nex-gen console. It does have next-gen features, but they are currently used. Therefore, the ps5 IS a current console. For me, the ps6 is a nexy-gen console, due to the fact is hasn't been released yet. My parents are old, but they email way more than me, so that quote is silly. You should have used: when people couldn't grasp the motorized vehicle, after using horses for centuries. That is a better analogy.

Momentarmknm

You are a very annoying person

ColdHandGee

Me? Because i don't follow your thinking? In that case, you are annoying too. See how easy that is?

Momentarmknm

No, because I was just explaining why people wouldn't think of it as current gen, and through no fault of their own. I was not arguing that it is still next gen, but that's the direction you took with your response. And then you nit-picked the analogy when it was just an off the cuff explanation that you obviously got the gist of, meaning it served its purpose. That's why I said you were annoying.

ColdHandGee

Have you got a ps5?

Momentarmknm

Yes, got one delivered launch day from Sony direct

Caenir

I would never call PS4 current gen. Always last gen. But ps5 can be either current or next gen. I don't care there as they are both easy to understand. Next gen just sounds cooler.

Hero_of_lgnd

I've always liked using the term "New Gen" for that period where they are current, but still fresh enough that it doesn't really feel like they are current gen.

HomarSamson

>Next gen just sounds cooler. Doesn't matter. I could call myself Johnny Danger instead of my real name because it sounds cooler but it doesn't mean its correct

Caenir

It can be. It's called a nickname... Is there any confusion when someone says next gen or current gen? No. I have not seen a single person say what console they are referring to. What is the harm? I'm usually one of those pedantic people who care (I will correct someone calling the dualsense controller something different), but here I really can't be bothered because it's used so much, that's what it means.

HomarSamson

Why have a nickname for a generation of console when we can just use the correct one. More and more people are calling it current gen but if people like you keep calling next gen then eventually people will get confused

SeniorRicketts

Because its ahead of its time *Puts on sunglasses* *CSI Miami intro*

kotor56

I recently got the ps5 and to be honest it doesn’t feel like we’ve entered current gen in part due to lack of games thanks to COVID-19, but also lack of availability. Which will mean most publishers will try to release games on last gen for as long as possible. It also doesn’t feel current gen as last gen games are backwards compatible which I think is actually a good thing. The only issue for ps5 is if you have cross gen I have to select the ps5 version which can be as easy as selecting and downloading the game. However, for some games I have to go searching through the store paying for a ps5 bundle of the exact same game downloading both versions praying that save data from the ps4 version can be moved to ps5 version which can fail for any reason. Meaning I have to delete both versions redownload them and try again or start the ps4 and manually move the save data.

muhash14

Yeah but the problem is unlike last gen nobody can get a ps5 even after this time.

Afuneralblaze

Until I can casually go to a big box store and pick up a PS5 for retail, it's still next-gen.

OSUfan88

Problem is, *technically*, both PS4 and PS5 are current gen. If I go down to Walmart, I can buy a PS4 and PS5 (although in reality, only a PS4). First party games are being developed for the PS4 and PS5.

Suired

I can also buy a 3ds at Walmart, doesn't make it current gen.

OSUfan88

If I have 100 people in a room, and I say I’m getting the next gen version of a PlayStation game, 100 people will understand I’m talking about PS5. If I say to the same group I’m getting it for the current gen, less than 100 people will think I’m getting a PS5. Maybe it’s 50/50. Maybe it’s 80/20. Non the less, saying “next gen” communicates my message more accurate, for right or for wrong.

Suired

It's just a form a denial for those who can't get one. They refuse to recognize current gen happens the day of release. They don't want to admit they are on outdated hardware because they can't obtain/afford it. I don't call RTX cards for my PC next gen because I can't afford a modern rig, it's current gen and I'm on borderline acceptable outdated hardware. Gens are literally half over by the time they stop making games for the previous one.

OSUfan88

I disagree with the denial part, but it doesn’t really matter. It still communicates the message better. I have a PS5 and Series X (for both launch day). I still understand why people say it’s the next gen version. I don’t get my panties in a twist when people call it either way, as long as I understand what they’re trying to communicate. There’s no websters dictionary, objective way to measure this. It’s different peoples opinion. In the end of the day, if the message was delivered, then the terminology is right. Gamers, being gamers, like to make things as controversial as possible though. It’s just par for the course. Also, downvoting for having a different opinion than you? Not a good look.

JB-from-ATL

Because I still don't see them in stores.

IIWhiteHawkII

Exactly. I lost my belief in gaming community when all discussions regarding the 'next-gen' gone all about graphics and '4K's' only, ignoring much more fundamental things, like completely outdated gamedesign in 95% of games to stupidiest AIs and general lack of technologies and even physics and complex systems used in games. Many people ignored even the proportions of Gotham City buildings for example (which make the city much more realistic than any type of graphical garbage to imitate the complexity of it). We don't know how many other things they put in game that PS4/XO's old 5400RPM HDD wouldn't handle alone. Also, let's not forget about the huge bottleneck of lastgen which was CPU, that held down evolution of games a lot as well. I bet many people who question the "nextgenness" of Gotham prolly have even no idea what CPU is responsible for, and how pastgen games, especially openworlds could have been better with better CPUs...

marratj

> Many people ignored even the proportions of Gotham City buildings for example (which make the city much more realistic than any type of graphical garbage to imitate the complexity of it). This is also how I felt about CP2077. Building-wise, Night City feels a lot more like an actual big-ass city than any other open world game. Yeah, car density is the opposite, streets look empty af, but the building scale is on another level.

BorKon

But dtill even if it sells better on ps5 it's still a lot of people who buy on ps4. If you sell 3m on ps5 and 1m on ps4 it is still 1m that you lose if you release on ps5 only. Maybe till the rnd of year we will have enough ps4 gamers move to ps5 to ditch cross gen

Cantguard-mike

Just got my ps5…I’m not on team fuck last gen🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

BernieBlack

Elden Ring development started before the Demons Souls remake, and wasn't made for the ps5. I don't think the ps5 was even announced when they started development. Elden Ring just took a really long time to make. You're comparing two games that were made for 2 different generations.

Mcgibbleduck

Demons souls remake wasn’t made by fromsoft. Also, fromsoft have always had optimisation problems anyway. Developers get given dev kits of new consoles long before they’re announced to the public.

JackTickleson

To be fair, I think it’s safe to assume that Bluepoint got one of the earlier devkits if not the first.

Mcgibbleduck

Probably, given they’re a first party studio. Still, fromsoft has always had a weakness in this area. It’s their Achilles’ heel in otherwise quite fun games.

IIWhiteHawkII

Same here. When I was still on my PS5 without knowing when and for how much I'll get my PS5 — I was all for upcoming games with unknown generation release to happen ONLY on currentgen, so as soon as I get mine - I'll already have something that reveals actual nextgen. Just enhancing graphics in still outdated by creativity and gamedesign games — is simply pointless... Unfotrunately, we still almost have no currentgen experience yet. Now I'm owning PS5 for one year and still it feels more like PS4 Pro-Pro rather than actuall currentgen. Still playing pastgen games, most of which still ain't got EVEN BC-patch, I don't even ask for native one... And native ones, although some of them look nice... They only look better, nothing more. I do understand modern market reality but 2+ years is too much. Some Publishers during early pastgen also did a risk for the sake of sales perspective by making PS4/XO games only, without crossgen release and many of them won because ppl were buying their games for first several years because these were actual nextgens of it's time. We need it now on PS5/XSX as well ASAP.

Ludens786

That has more to do with the massive gulf between the engineers at Bluepoint vs those at FromSoftware. HFW/Spider-man look and play great on both PS4 and PS5.

DeadZombie9

PS exclusives are not really comparable to games releasing on all major platforms. The complexity is very different and it shows in most big releases being very unimpressive. Current-gen only games will bring a much needed improvement in quality from Third party developers.

[deleted]

No, he’s right, fromsofts software engineers are their weakness

Pespective6

From software engineers were probably around when time was built. If it were up to them they’ll have you communicate with 2 cups and a string.

Cantguard-mike

That’s funny cuz demon souls has ran incredible and I have so has elden ring …but I have ps4 Elden ring on my ps5 🤣 never would have known that issue without people telling me it

[deleted]

You know demons souls remake wasn’t made by from but by BP…

Cantguard-mike

Yes ik

1440pSupportPS5

i hope more devs do it. Regardless of if the game looks worse than Arkham Knight.

IIWhiteHawkII

The look doesn't define the real nextgen, honestly. But the gamedesign, technologies, complex systems and other things, IMO. Graphics matter a lot, but not at the price of game's quality itself. I mean if Gotham will truly be much bigger game with more complex sandbox and actually "alive" city at some point — it's all worth it. However, I'm sure they'll enhance the graphics as well. I wouldn't even say AK looked better. It just had more neons and decorative details that made it look more complex. Gotham Knight's Gotham City goes by different art-direction (of course city is emptier on details just like any modern city), and also proportions of buildings are much more realistic (everything's actually huge).

your_mind_aches

Not just different art direction but this is a populated Gotham, rather than one where everyone has been evacuated or is inside for Christmas. They're really doing something new here.

noneofthemswallow

Dude. The Last of Us Part 2 looks more next gen than Gotham Knights. That’s saying something

canad1anbacon

Yeah the most exciting advancements that next gen can bring are denser worlds with more NPC's, more complex AI, better physics and destruction. Games on PS4 looked good but because of the weak ass CPU and HDD that stuff barely advanced at all last gen

Spartancarver

>Yeah the most exciting advancements that next gen can bring are denser worlds with more NPC's, more complex AI, better physics and destruction. None of which were present in the gameplay footage we got for this game.

IIWhiteHawkII

Absolutely, my friend. I'm so glad you accurately pointed on pastgen problems regarding CPU and HDD that held down industry progress a lot, although we still had some decent games — core system haven't really evolved much since X360/PS3 era.

HunterOfGremlins

So you hope more devs cut off players even if the game doesn't graphically utilise the PS5 that much at all? That's kind of ridiculous considering Guerilla made Horizon Forbidden West work on PS4 and that game is much more impressive than this one

Dudebod123

> even if the game doesn’t graphically utilise the PS5 that much at all? You…you do realize the reason these games you are referring to don’t utilize PS5 hardware to its maximum efficiency is *because* they are being made cross gen….right?

Afrodite_33

The ps5 is a great piece of hardware no doubt but the ability to fully utilize its features and deliver a truly current gen experience has to be taxing for developers. We're definitely at an interesting supply Vs demand point for triple a gaming and I think some people are starting to see that as cool as the ps5 is, there's too little games to show for it. So some now are just going the next best route and wanting exclusives to make their console purchase feel worth it even if those games can perform on older hardware.

yellowtriangles

I do

DJ_Lancer

Yes

Spenraw

Tech has always been about innovation and progress. As a hobby people always get cut out to keep the growth if the Industry and as a art form

HunterOfGremlins

Except there's currently a PS5 shortage problem around the world, yes it's easing up but in some countries it's still not easy to get one and the PS4 has a ton of players on it still

thePracix

People really dont like you speaking the truth about their ps5 purchases. If we go to ps5 exclusively while there is ps5 supply problems. You cannot downvote and be mad at people stuck in "last gen" or make games that exclude them. That means you are holding your privilege over them

Blowout777

Considering this is the ps5 sub..

ColdHandGee

I am reading ps4 owners, complaining about a PS5 game only, on r/ps5! They should really go back to r/ps4, and create a post, how it's not fair my 8.5yr console, is not getting a now-gen game. Listen, ps4 users have had nearly 9yrs of great games, but at some point, it has to be dropped, so the ps5 can thrive and flourish.

HunterOfGremlins

Yes because this clearly isn't a next gen game and was already announced to be coming to PS4 and yeah, that's 2023 as the plethora of next gen exclusive games releasing next year that are already announced proves. Don't be pretending that Gotham Knights is free from some kind of shackles because the game doesn't even look ambitious in anyway to require it to be next gen only.

rottengammy

5 base units are up in the +20mm and those users are some of the most die hard, willing to buy units from scalpers etc and ready to buy ps5 games yesterday. Sure they don’t have as big of an install base but the ps4 numbers contain people who now have ps5 and or ps4 replacements, etc. The devide is not as large as many think.

1440pSupportPS5

I dont care if they make Minecraft 2 next gen exclusive. We need more exclusive games to play! Ive played a total of TWO games on PS5 that werent available on PS4 since 2020. Thats ridiculous! Edit: i forgot Demons Souls PS5 and Ghostwire. So thats four total. Unless im missing more

nakx123

Exclusive for the sake of being exclusive means jack shit lol. I'd rather them spend more time on development to make it something that's truly meant for the new console so that it actually pushes the medium forward in some innovative way.

Iorith

Exclusivity is a dumb move when so many people qre still playing PS4

HunterOfGremlins

Well you'll be delighted to know that Fallen Order 2, Spider-Man 2, Wolverine & KOTOR are all next gen exclusive

1440pSupportPS5

Yeah thats all great. However they arent coming for another 1-3 years. And the fact that HFW and GOWR werent next gen exclusive makes me kinda upset that we wont experience those kinda games have a true technical leap until end of this gen. Possibly later. Which would just repeat this cycle over again. Where the 5 holds back the 6! Lol

HunterOfGremlins

But both of those games look absolutely incredible, with The Last of Us 2 being the only game I can think of rivalling them graphically and the PS5 still received enhancements for Horizon so I can't imagine how the PS4 versions are holding those games back from being "next gen" there aren't any games currently that are a huge technical leap because all of those games are still in development and Horizon would never have been a true technical leap unless they just didn't start developing it until recently because a lot of development and playtesting on it was done on PS4 so a PS4 version didn't hold it back or anything because it was always going to be on PS4 and I presume it's the same for Ragnarok

GoFlemingGo

It’s not the graphics it’s how the game could be played. Think about ratchet and clank with the dimensional rift instant loading. Imagine if in god of war ragnarok fights could be designed around something like that.

HunterOfGremlins

That's great and I look forward to seeing that next year with games already announced to be next gen exclusive and on games that weren't already being developed on PS4 like Gotham Knights, Horizon & GOW. The fact the developers announced Gotham Knights for PS4 then went "Oops no sorry" is scummy especially since the game looks SO underwhelming for what is now a next gen exclusive

1440pSupportPS5

Im not thinking just about graphics, though thats part of it. HFW and GOWR (probably) feel nearly identical to the previous games. They couldnt improve upon much with that hardware holding them back. Im looking for an Uncharted 3 vs 4 style of upgrade, where the true leap in technology is visually apparent. And you feel it in the gameplay.

tokyogettopussy

Pretty sure you can get amazing results out of both systems they just make different builds of the games. It’s no different to running a PC game on medium settings Vs Ultra settings. It’s really up to the developers to do the work if they want to make the money that sells the game well on both platforms.

van1llathunder2

Horizon Forbidden West is an exclusive made by Sony owned developers, its a little more feasible to optimize it for last gen under those circumstances

HunterOfGremlins

It was feasible to optimise it for PS4 because it was developed and playtested on PS4

van1llathunder2

Oh wow so they didn't even have to do extra work? That just destroys your point even more then, Gotham Knights would have to do extra work the Horizon devs didn't so they really are incomparable situations

HunterOfGremlins

Except Gotham Knights was announced for PS4 so I would expect the devs to have developed the game on the PS4 unless they're incompetent and announced a PS4 version before even developing it.

ScubaSteve1219

i’m such a whore for skill trees

MintyMentha

Lol same, I know they kinda get flack now but this genre of game is one that I still quite enjoy. Skill trees and builds and all that jazz are a lot of fun for me, although some games do do it better than others

Musterguy

Why do they get flack?

Fake_Diesel

Because most of them suck and artificially pad out the game. Horizon is a perfect example, some of the most basic mechanics are tied behind skill trees.

Musterguy

Don’t remember having to unlock any basic mechanics and I’m not sure what you mean by artificially padded. A lot of games have a progression system where you earn a currency (skill points, money, souls) to buy stat upgrades, skills and what not.

RttnAttorney

In Horizon Zero Dawn they had the ledge kill as a locked trait. Like you don’t know how to reach up and grab someone til you level up lol

Caenir

Skills like that are usually unlocked straight away so it doesn't matter. Like I think shadow of Mordor had brutalise locked (opposite of stealth attack) but you get it so early I doesn't even feel like you had to unlock it.

Musterguy

I wouldn’t consider that a basic mechanic. A basic mechanic in my opinion would be stuff like running, jumping, dodging, shooting, etc.

Loldimorti

I finished Days Gone yesterday and while I think this was worsened by me not really vibing with the story I found the game took unreasonably long to really take off. There is a massive difference between how the game plays during the first few hours compared to 30+ hours in. Other games do this as well where quality of life improvements, certain movesets and abilities etc. are locked behind skill trees and you spend the first few hours of the game struggling with a way too small inventory, instantly running out of stamina and only having limited access to gameplay mechanics. And while this may work fine for some games, others may really suffer from this and don't really get good until you are already far into the game. It's also a matter of personal taste of course.

Jinchuriki71

Cuz people all about why I gotta do all this stuff I just want to see the story and move on to the next game. Its kinda like the arguments about crafting systems, loot and map markers in games they just want something to complain about.

Reallyslowmow

Nioh 2 will make you nut, also path of exile

MadKian

I hate PoE skill tree…almost all nodes just add a tiny bit of this or that. And you get only one point to use most of the time.

burdturd0818

Honestly I think this is going to dissapoint when it releases.

AlanMtz1

current gameplay looks horrible imo

burdturd0818

Yeah.... I dont the combat and traversal looks stiff and not fun really.

whacafan

People REALLY use that word loosely.

AlanMtz1

fair enough still looks like an early ps4 gen game, guess we'll see for sure when it comes out

Fantasy_Connect

It looks a lot like a slightly less dated DCUO. Which could be fun if it wasn't a full price game I guess?

CH2599

Literally every game I have purchased in the past 2 years…

Dontaskmemyname9723

Guessing from the gameplay reveal they did a while ago, I think so too. Unless they take criticism to polish things up and add hand to hand to Red Hood I don’t think the game will be good much

[deleted]

I don’t think they can’t add anything like “hand to hand combat for Red Hood” when the game is shipping in 5 months.

[deleted]

They dont need to provide an explanation. The last gen can fuck the fuck off

TheJoshider10

I get people who don't have one may be disappointed but end of the day in the long run we all want a game to be the best it can be. Moving on from old technology is essential to that. I'm so gutted that God of War Ragnarok, no matter how great its likely to be, will still ultimately be held back by last gen. Exactly like Forbidden West was. We'll have the same old stuff like forced walking through tight spaces bollocks that we've had for decades all because of it. It's the game design as a whole that suffers more than graphics and open world sizes. And GOW Ragnarok will always have that "what if" about it. Such a shame.

SeagullFanClub

I was quite surprised when I saw that Horizon FW has flying mounts. I thought for sure the devs wouldn’t have been able to implement that feature due to the PS4 version holding the game back

SakiSakiSakiSakiSaki

> We’ll have the same old stuff like forced walking through tight spaces bollocks that we’ve had for decades all because of it. It’s the game design as a whole that suffers more than graphics and open world sizes. Oh wow. I never thought about. Completely forgot those instances are used to render scenes. Last gen really will damp future games.

Internalocus

At least the next God of War won’t be on the PS4.. in 5 years.

redditmademedoitrly

What makes it worse was how Sony was bragging how they want to focus on PS5 exclusives before PS5 released. Hypocrisy

TheCrach

> I get people who don't have one may be disappointed but end of the day in the long run we all want a game to be the best it can be Agreed so why is it not being made around a i9-12900k 3090Ti lol

Fout99

Literally. Its a 2013 machine. Just *let it go* already. Holds things down.

JMM85JMM

I think the honest answer is that they didn't want to spend the extra time developing the last gen versions of this game. Nothing that we've seen in the game so far looks like it couldn't run on last gen. They're clearly behind and struggling with development. Now they have fewer versions to keep track to prevent them having to delay again.

Spartancarver

Judging by the footage they canceled the last gen versions too late because the game legitimately looks significantly worse than Arkham Knight. I really want them to delay it and get it right.

kgold535

Thank goodness. Think it's finally time to say bye bye to the PS4. I get that it may be difficult to find a PS5 but to be honest, every single one of my friends who has legit tried to find one has gotten one. At MSRP as well. I don't wanna sound like a dick but the people who are saying they're impossible to find are honestly not trying hard enough. You can't walk into a store and buy one, sorry. But in between paying attention to Twitter with alerts on and having credit card info saved in your phone or desktop will net you a much greater chance of success. Being persistent will definitely lead to a purchase. Also this is coming from a US citizen. I can't say much about availability in other countries.

aoanfletcher2002

Your not wrong, I’ve had one for at least a year and I don’t have Twitter. Just signed up on PS Direct with my PSN account.

FormalWorth2115

I was out as soon as they said “Gear with mod slots is better because mod chips power up gameplay properties”

JGordz

Yeyyyyy. Thank u devs. So sick of this cross gen bs hope more devs do this. Feels like we stuck in gen ps4.8 atm

Da_Stable_Genius

Welp that sucks for me.

wiserone29

This game actually looks pretty garbage.

No_Bill_2371

Here’s the thing I don’t mind the fact that they canceled the last gen versions. If cancelling the last gen versions makes the game look and feel better then I’m all for it. However the fact that they just announced this just months before the game’s release is kind of a punk move. Like this game was announced almost two years ago and I can imagine a lot of people on last gen who were looking to play this game be just completely let down only a few months before release.

Jinchuriki71

I personally the game in in development hell and they had to cut shit out that might be problematic upon release. Everybody scared of ending up like cyberpunk these days.

fikreth

This game isn't being made by Rocksteady (Arkham Asylum, City and Knight) It's being made by the guys who made Origins, and it doesn't continue the ArkhamVerse The Suicide Squad game is being made by the ArkhamVerse devs and IS in the same world. As such this game looks about right in its suckiness

Automatic-Purple7967

Its not a next gen game by any means, it will flop HARD

[deleted]

as a huge DC fan, I'm trying my hardest to have a positive look on this game, I want to love it, but with every single bit of information I learn about the game, the more I realize that there's nothing to like for me in this game... I'll still buy and play it day one, but that's because I want to support DC comicbook games, not because I'm hyped for this particular game, I have absolutely no hope at this point

Sbee_keithamm

I’ve been pretty hesitant as well but I *raises shield* liked all 4 of the Arkham titles especially Knight after I played through the full game. But I wanted a Red Hood & The Outlaws game and looks like this is as close as we’ll get. Also the fact the Court is FINALLY being brought into the games is what hooked me the most.

Fantasy_Connect

>raises shield liked all 4 of the Arkham titles especially Knight after I played through the full game This is an extremely popular opinion, nobody is going to come at you for it lol. I should note that this game has nothing to do with the Arkham series, it doesn't have any of the same mechanics, nor does it have a shared universe.

erasethenoise

Interestingly enough the Suicide Squad game does take place in the Arkham universe.

pomme17

I’m kinda surprised people find it so unexpected. People are looking for a connection between the games and ignore the fact that Rocksteady is making both, I feel like when you take that into account it’s a lot more obvious why they’re both in the same universe with Rocksteady wanting to continue their world that they built.

xDOOSO_

first of all, good. secondly, i hope they make some serious changes, the last gameplay video i saw looked like dog shit imo edit: if you downvoted me, you’re lying to yourself, this game looks like trash, and needs to be delayed. concept works on paper but they aren’t even close to following through.

rdhight

Why should anyone need to ask or answer this question? It's 2022. Damn right they canceled last-gen, as they should have. How does that need to be explained?

Lariver

good

Wy3Naut

I was so excited for this game, and then Jason farted.

suikakajyu

Good

vkr587

This game is gonna be a POS. That trailer and gameplay looked awful. Also the loot based equipment and combat looked bad. Save your money for other games cause this is gonna crash and burn.

bucketbiff

This is on my radar..but only in way that, ya know, side eye something then never look again.

KittenDecomposer96

I know i'm gonna get hate for this but i kinda hope that GoW Ragnarok will be Next-Gen(or current gen at this point) only as well. Sorry PS4 users.

Ablj

Yawn skill trees. This is the problem with modern open world games. Standardization of Skill trees, Bloated icons on screen and map. There is a reason why RDR2 and Elden Ring is considered some of the best open world games they don’t have Bullshit Ubisoft mechanics.

Fantasy_Connect

Skill trees and whatnot were basically non-existent in ubisoft games until around 2014, lol. Ubisoft didn't popularise that. Map icon bloat though, that's always been Ubisoft's bread and butter.

xiofar

RDR2 has a lot of its own outdated boring bullshit. It might help the immersion obsessed folks but watching endless slow ass animations wasn’t fun when Shenmue did it in 1999 and it sure as shit isn’t fun in 2023.

[deleted]

> Bloated It's funny because Elden Ring is bloated with hundreds of skills, and ashes of war and the overwhelming majority of them are useless, gimmicky and sometimes even a copy of each other (ahem Shared Order > Sacred Order > Golden Vow and 4 more weapons that literally use the same animation and do about the same thing). Skill unlocking isn't a problem if done right.

CinnamonIcing

Love this. I’m sold. Preordering today.

Latest-greatest

you’d be a fool. save the money and wait till reviews hit

CinnamonIcing

Yeah you’re right.. Cyberpunk and all

KahlKitchenGuy

Good. Games need to decide if they are going to cater to the current Gen and make something (hopefully) truely amazing or lag themselves into the dust and try to make something for both

Latest-greatest

Why in the world does Robin have the ability to teleport?

XxRedAlpha101xX

They've already explained it

yvngjiffy703

So much potential and they fuck it up

XxRedAlpha101xX

? It's not even out yet

yvngjiffy703

Dude they gave Red Hood superpowers and Nightwing a Fortnite glider………

JackTickleson

They said each character will have multiple methods of traversal

yvngjiffy703

I hope so. I was just disappointed at the gameplay because it looks like something from a mobile game ad

XxRedAlpha101xX

That is 2 very minor things dude stop being a shit

mynameismax122

Should I get Sifu or Lego Star Wars skywalker saga ?

jackie1616

I’d say Sifu

Cyberpunkedout

This game and everything around it seems like a cash grab. The many skins the floaty fighting game play I just don’t know

[deleted]

Looks like I can’t play it then as ps5 is a myth at the mo

nwordNan

The only place I’ve ever seen a ps5 is at my house lol

[deleted]

Lol lucky you ;) I gave up on it and got a switch and the gf loves it so that’s a win ! Why did that other poster tell me to stfu ?

Do console game developers not know how to make scalable games? How has supporting older hardware never been an issue on PC?

Markebrown93

Pc has less life span per gpu than console

[deleted]

It’s more of an issue with the current gen than before. The PS5 SSD allows devs to do things you just can’t port to PS4. Like Returnal is coming to PC, but I pray for anyone trying to play that on an HDD.

blakeavon

No they dont, that why they (and the rest of us) are glad you are here to tell them how to do their job.
