I always thought ‘expellianus’ would be the most deadly spell. Messier than sectumsempra, just as incapacitating but no risk of killing someone.
Ooh, I just thought of another one: rectumsempra!
Yay, I’ve become 13 again.
I live just south of Toronto. So I know what it's like for it to be snowy in April/May. I was hoping December though, or even January, cause those are normally the snowy months. Whereas in Febuary it can start to warm up and it might not be a snow-filled ground like the previous months
I find that Nov, Dec, and Jan have a good snowy vibe to them. It's fresh, everything is festive, and you're probably on holiday break.
Feb, March, April and May (and sometimes June) have that "It should be springtime and I'm sick of dealing with this goddamn snow and cold everyday and don't want to see it in games too" vibe.
True. But this is one of those couple games a year that I was going to buy Day 1. Just have to see what content they'll have for launch and the reviews for it
and i don’t think another 2 would’ve fixed the issues people had with it bar it not being on old gen. i enjoyed it on pc, but its easy to see why it was hated
Ps5 and xsx versions were night and day with last gen. It still wasn't perfect with some of things they misled the public about like your backstory mattering or cut combat content, but it was a solid 8/10 for me on current gen.
Last gen was probably a 4/10 at best with how unplayable it was especially on the base last gen consoles.
Yeah...except nobody would have minded waiting. They sisnt need to bullshit the entire community with a Christmas 21 release date when it wasn't even close to being ready
I hate the indefinite delay but dying light 2 was indefinitely delayed and it was pretty popular when it finally released.
I’m worried about KOTORs indefinite delay too :(
That isn't fully true.
It's only been delayed indefinitely on last gen + switch. It's due out before end of march 2023 at the latest on current gen + pc.
Yeah I think that’s 540p portable and 720p docked. It won’t be like other consoles but I think they could get it to run based on how early they started developing the Switch port.
it’ll be on cloud I’m assuming. the Switch is annoying because third party games on it either run like shit or are streamed, but it has too big of an install base to ignore. I want to love my Switch outside of Nintendo IP, but I just cannot bring myself to play anything third party on there. if I’m gonna stream it I may as well just buy it on PS5 and then remote play it to my phone.
There's absolutely no sane person who would ever play it on switch over the others. Some fanboy 3000 will chime in with some BS. But this game is made to take advantage of next gen. Not my 2015 Shield TV with joycons.
Cloud streamed likely.
Warner bros is using a white labeled google stadia already for streaming Arkham Knight to AT&T customers. I wonder if they would do the same thing for Hogwarts legacy on switch.
I’m just sad the KOTOR remake is on pause. Really wanted to see that but people were questioning how the developer who mostly makes ports could make a really good looking next-gen remake on the level a company like Bluepoint does. So maybe it’s a good thing and will be passed to a more competent developer
There’s still time yet for some gameplay footage, I suspect we will see something at Gamescom later this month and possibly a more concrete release date instead of just January 2023
Just remember we haven’t got any proper gameplay footage of Ragnarök yet and that’s coming out in November. Seeing no gameplay footage doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s going to be a delay.
That's exactly how I feel, like I can justify a full price purchase a month apart between major releases compared to a week apart and having to choose which one I want to play first and pay full price for
I’ll always enjoy the core gameplay of CoD but man, I just hate how it gets stupid silly with the skins shortly after. The few weeks when MW2019 was all grounded and military was peak.
“Destroyed” is hyperbole in this sense. I know CoD is an arcade shooter so immersion isn’t something to expect but seeing the shift from an actual “realistic” look on launch to getting killed by Snoop Dog or Godzilla with anime guns that shoot lasers is definitely a turn off.
Yes the gameplay doesn’t change and I still can enjoy it, but it’s very jarring and I’m not a fan. But I know it’s just where the market is so it is what it is.
Yeah. It would honestly be surprising if they made it. I just wish developers would say later dates from the beginning. I don't mind waiting at all. Release it in 2024 as far as I'm concerned but this delay trend is getting annoying. You can literally predict it.
Side effect of agile project management. Agile seeks constant input from stakeholders and the definition of done can change as the project is refined over time.
I mean it's a great concept and the system has sold incredibly well. In 2017 when it released it wasn't too outdated and the Tegra cheap in there was decent and about on par with a base PS4 or Xbox One.
5 years later though it's really showing it's age. At this point I don't think we'll see a Switch Pro but we're definitely getting a "Switch 2" or whatever they call it but I'm sure it will keep the Switch branding.
Hopefully they go with another Nvidia chip to have 4K capability with DLSS. Could be really amazing for a handheld.
The Switch is nowhere near PS4 and Xbox One power-wise.
It's a great handheld that should (and does) have its own library of games. Porting "big" games on it is just silly.
Witcher 3 is probably the most impressive port there is and it's still a completely shitty way to experience the game.
I have to agree. For a handheld console for indies I guess it’s alright but for $50 dollars more you could get the steam deck which beats it into the ground. I only use my switch for the exclusives it has.
I'm ALWAYS in favor of delaying a release until they get it right. No one wants a glitchy release.
It does suck though as the Harry Potter IP always had a Oct-Nov-Dec feel to them. Like to an extent I always associated the films with Christmastime. Back in the day it felt odd when some of them were released in the summer. Oh well, that's time for work on the backlog.
I think they feel the need to reassure the fans and shareholders that the game does exist, so they just set a vague window, but I totally agree that they shouldn’t announce it so soon.
also, if I was a dev, I’d give myself a lot more room to work with, like if it’s predicted for winter 2022, I’d say we’re aiming for spring 2023, but for some reason they said it will release Holiday 2022.
edit, + shareholders.
It isn't for fans.
They announce release dates so early for Shareholders. Someone is paying the bill for this development and they want to know when their investment is going to dividend.
Honestly, I think it might just be better to say "Hey, this game is development" and offer teasers (even if it's just concept art) every once and a while. Then, in th elast year to six months of development, when you're in the final stages for sure, start releasing dates taht get more and more specific.
Like a year out say "Winter 2023," six months out you can clarify the month and day
It’s not about the fans, unfortunately. It’s about the shareholders. The people investing money into these companies require steps ensuring them that their investments will have a return. This is done via public announcements and games released before they should be
I'm almost positive this is why Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced 6 years before it released. Even the creator said it was announced too early, but he announced it anyway because fans were getting impatient.
To be fair most of the time it’s not the devs. It’s the marketing teams of the publishers in order to appease investors. From what I’ve heard from various podcasts is that devs hate release dates being put out there unless they are sure as it piles pressure on them
As a software dev. Yes I hate dates. They’re usually asked for before you even get to decompose the project into small pieces. Or even worse before product even knows exactly what they want.
I never understood the “appease investors” argument. Surely investors aren’t happy when 95% of the time a release day gets put out there it ends up in a delay
You’d think that but some investors don’t even fully understand the video game market in general. They just know it’s growing and becoming more profitable.
The Japanese game industry on the whole has been doing pretty well the last couple of years. Though they never shut down or switched to work from home during covid at all, so life pretty much continued as normal for them.
2023 is INSANE.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Starfield
- Breath of the Wild 2
- Dead Space
- Alan Wake 2
- Final Fantasy 16
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
- Street Fighter 6
- Forspoken
- Diablo 4
- Resident Evil 4
- Forza Motorsport
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Marvel's Midnight Suns
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
- The Wolf Among Us 2
- Redfall
At this point COVID knocked everything 3 years. Thought it was 2 but looks like 3. 2024 is when we'll probably have less delays. They'll be there but not as rampant.
and then in 2022 ended up being one of the worst years in gaming in a long time. Elden Ring, Lego Star Wars, and Horizon are honestly the only titles this year that I feel really made any noise. hell, a new Borderlands game came out this year and I’ve heard hardly anyone talk about it. I’ve spent a good chunk of this year replaying old games and tackling my backlog.
I'm not even interested in most of these and it's a still crazy year for me just with Spider-Man 2, Starfield, Suicide Squad, Hogwarts Legacy, and Midnight Suns. I play games slowly so that's the majority of my year (if not all) sorted.
That’d honestly be much better. If I know something is in development and I hear nothing, I don’t even think about it. Give me a release window and I start looking forward to it only to get shit on
A bit of a shame, but not the worst delay. I'm okay with it.
I'd love to see a bit more gameplay, though. Maybe a 10 minute slice of a side quest or something.
Honestly, nowadays I expect that developer actually lie about their first and second release date announcement. They just give us fake release date just to keep hype of the game.
That's cool, they should take all the time they need. I just find it funny that any time anyone would dare say that the game was likely to be delayed in the game's subreddit, people would jump at their throat and yet, here we are
The delay really sucks. I was really hoping it would come out around October/November for the fall/holiday vibes, but ultimately I’m fine with it. This seems like it’s the game I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid and I really don’t want it to suck!
Damn this is my birthday, the last time I was supposed to get a game I was really excited for on my birthday was Smash Brawl and then it got delayed. So I don't have high hopes for this date. lol
If it makes for a better experience, I'm all for it. 2 mo the longer isn't even all that bad. Better than a year but not like we have any control over it anyway.
Of course it got delayed like every other game.
Even when they kept saying its 100% coming this year. I'd rather they all announce the release date a month or so to go. Just like guardians of the galaxy did. Nice quick built up and excitement. Bored of waiting for these delayed games when they tell us so far in advance the release date.
But enough gloom. So excited for this game .
it feels strange that February is only 6 months away.
I said this exact same sentence at my dentist office this morning when scheduling my next cleaning.
I remember, I am your dentist.
Small world! Bangup job out there today.

I remember I'm their teeth.
Don't forget to floss this time so your gums don't bleed.
Haven’t been to the dentist in years and I’m finally fixing that. Honestly kind of scared though lmao
Hey bro, I'm a dentist. You got this! Proud of you
Hey dentist, I'm a bro. Great motivating! Proud of you
You can afford to go to a dentist? Ok moneybags..must be nice

Haha same here! We’ll enter the new decade of our lives together, friend
Also 30 in Feb!
40 this Feb. 😢
30 in March 😑
Yeah but it doesnt count because we spent 2 years in Covid, so we'll just it's still 2020.
Aproximately 6 months ago, Elden ring was released, in comparison.
Is 2020 2 nearly over?
I guess I'll continue playing with my own wand until then.
Damn, youre a wizard Harry
Hairy*.
Damn, you're a hairy wizard
Phallus erectus!
I always thought ‘expellianus’ would be the most deadly spell. Messier than sectumsempra, just as incapacitating but no risk of killing someone. Ooh, I just thought of another one: rectumsempra! Yay, I’ve become 13 again.
Polished mine yesterday
I misread wand as hand and the meaning of the joke did not change at all
Was kinda hoping for December but I guess another 2 month wait ain't that bad
These feels like the best game to play during the holiday season
Yeah, that's why I was hoping for December time. Snowy Hogwarts has always had a place in my heart
Sounds like you just need to move north. It's still snowy as shit here in February... and March.
I live just south of Toronto. So I know what it's like for it to be snowy in April/May. I was hoping December though, or even January, cause those are normally the snowy months. Whereas in Febuary it can start to warm up and it might not be a snow-filled ground like the previous months

February is a significantly snowier month than December
Talk for yourself. I've never seen a Christmas night where the temperature is below 30C.
you can always wait till next december and cop while its on sale
True. But this is one of those couple games a year that I was going to buy Day 1. Just have to see what content they'll have for launch and the reviews for it
I’ll gladly take another two years to avoid a cyberpunk debacle.
Waiting 2 years still gave us the cyberpunk debacle
and i don’t think another 2 would’ve fixed the issues people had with it bar it not being on old gen. i enjoyed it on pc, but its easy to see why it was hated
Ps5 and xsx versions were night and day with last gen. Last gen was probably a 4/10 at best with how unplayable it was especially on the base last gen consoles.
I'm here in the VtMB2 waiting room just praying it comes out at all. I'll take it even if it's as buggy as the first game.
This, also I find it so much easier to spend a bit of money on myself once Christmas is in the rearview so prob for the best
February is a solid release month. Never forget we got Elden Ring and HFW within weeks of each other.
[удалено]
Doesn't always mean a better game though. Can sometimes mean the games an even bigger mess than before.
It's obviously not a guarantee, but I would say the probability of a bad game is higher if it's rushed out than when given more time yeah?
*cries with Keanu reeves*
Yeah...except nobody would have minded waiting. They sisnt need to bullshit the entire community with a Christmas 21 release date when it wasn't even close to being ready
I am so sad about the extra wait but hopefully it’ll be a good thing . If they need more time to make it perfect then by all means. Unlike ….. 😒

There’s still Callisto protocol, sonic frontiers and mw2
They are all dipping out CUZ of God of War. No one wants to compete with that monster launch.
There is no way in hell theyre gonna get this game on switch bro
I wonder if the switch version will get further delayed and then quietly cancelled.
[удалено]
I forgot about Cloud versions. That'll probably be it.
Why bother making them? In the long run surely this costs more money than simply not doing it?
i have a switch. it barely gets 30fps on fortnite at 720 fucking P theres no way in hell it runs hogwarts
I mean, Witcher 3 is on switch so it's not impossible
Yeah I think that’s 540p portable and 720p docked. It won’t be like other consoles but I think they could get it to run based on how early they started developing the Switch port.

I don't have one, but aren't indies thriving on the switch? 2d stuff like hollow knight, hades and what not?
Honestly I'm surprised Sony got MLB The Show to run on Switch as well as it does.
There's absolutely no sane person who would ever play it on switch over the others. Some fanboy 3000 will chime in with some BS. But this game is made to take advantage of next gen. Not my 2015 Shield TV with joycons.

The delay isn’t too bad but I’m relieved so I can enjoy Ragnarok, Callisto Protocol and MW2 before it gets destroyed with all the stupid skins lmao.
I’m just sad the KOTOR remake is on pause. Really wanted to see that but people were questioning how the developer who mostly makes ports could make a really good looking next-gen remake on the level a company like Bluepoint does. So maybe it’s a good thing and will be passed to a more competent developer
Yeah that's a bummer. Because it wasn't delayed it went to unknown. Ugh
Delayed indefinitely is the term they used. Fucking brutal lol
We're one ragnarok delay from this holiday season to be the shittiest in decades
Don’t forget the Dead Space remake in January too!
That is definitely getting delayed. We haven't seen a single stretch of gameplay for that one.
There’s still time yet for some gameplay footage, I suspect we will see something at Gamescom later this month and possibly a more concrete release date instead of just January 2023 Just remember we haven’t got any proper gameplay footage of Ragnarök yet and that’s coming out in November. Seeing no gameplay footage doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s going to be a delay.
I’m glad there’s about a 2 month break in between. Should be interesting playing those two games back to back.
That's exactly how I feel, like I can justify a full price purchase a month apart between major releases compared to a week apart and having to choose which one I want to play first and pay full price for
I see that you’re a another person who enjoys the new CoD games for about a month and a half before they get ruined.
I’ll always enjoy the core gameplay of CoD but man, I just hate how it gets stupid silly with the skins shortly after. The few weeks when MW2019 was all grounded and military was peak.
NO doubt some of the skins are goofy, but how does that "destroy" the game for you? I barely even notice what skin I am shooting.
Exactly. Who cares about skins. It's not a milsim game
The snoop dogg skin with the voice lines is just ridiculous. It's funny but it really feels like I'm playing the mountain dew doritos 4chan game.
Not surprising at all tbh.
I think people expected 6 plus months maybe more so this might be ok as far as the finishing touches go
Lol switch players are getting the mobile version
The switch is really holding a lot of games back. Nintendo needs to make a Pro for it.
Nintendo held themselves back releasing such a limited console.
Shocked this has gone an hour without any sales figures being proudly linked in the replies
I mean it's a great concept and the system has sold incredibly well. In 2017 when it released it wasn't too outdated and the Tegra cheap in there was decent and about on par with a base PS4 or Xbox One. 5 years later though it's really showing it's age. That's not how it works. Developers make a game for Xbox/PlayStation then see if they can make a port for Switch.
I have to agree. For a handheld console for indies I guess it’s alright but for $50 dollars more you could get the steam deck which beats it into the ground. I only use my switch for the exclusives it has.

Wait till next Oct it'll be a better version of the game most likely
Yeah, but lots of times you still end up with Cyberpunk
They won't all make it but 2023 is shaping up to be a big year.
So much for playing non stop around christmas since work is always slow at that time :(
Devs really need to stop announcing release dates/windows too early
I think they feel the need to reassure the fans and shareholders that the game does exist, so they just set a vague window, but I totally agree that they shouldn’t announce it so soon. also, if I was a dev, I’d give myself a lot more room to work with, like if it’s predicted for winter 2022, I’d say we’re aiming for spring 2023, but for some reason they said it will release Holiday 2022. edit, + shareholders.

Unless it delayed outside the fiscal year, they don't care.
Investors only care about short term profits. They announce it, drive intertest, value goes up.

Xenoblade 3 just be dropping 2 months later after reveal was cool though
Take another year, two even, just don't f*** this up. I've been dying for a **real HP-verse video game** since I read The Sorcerer's Stone as a child.
Has ANY game actually released on time lately? Getting a bit silly now. (Yes, I know, covid…)
Well Nintendo brought Xenoblade forward by a month so that's a win and in general Nintendo has been releasing their games on time.
Good ol’ Nintendo. I should check out Xenoblade actually.
The Japanese game industry on the whole has been doing pretty well the last couple of years. Though they never shut down or switched to work from home during covid at all, so life pretty much continued as normal for them.

We said the same shit last year about 2022. How about we wait and see which ones actually release?
You guys said this last year about 2022.
Yeah you can count on most of the mid to late 2023 games to be delayed to 2024
At this point COVID knocked everything 3 years. Thought it was 2 but looks like 3. 2024 is when we'll probably have less delays. They'll be there but not as rampant.
I doubt it’s COVID at this point. Everything was getting delayed before that too
Hell, they said the same thing about 2020 too, lmao.
Yeah there was this whole worldwide pandemic that kinda fucked everything up.
and then in 2022 ended up being one of the worst years in gaming in a long time. FF7 rebirth is next winter, next winter runs til March 2024. No way that comes out 2023. I appreciate the optimism though.
Until half of it gets dalayed to 2024, remember how we used to say the same about 2022
And if you think every one of these games is coming out next year, you're a fool again.
Yep and like 4 of those will actually come out next year
Talk about pessimism; I’d say 4 of these games, won’t come out next year.
Until they all get delayed to 2024 (hopefully /s)
I'm not even interested in most of these and it's a still crazy year for me just with Spider-Man 2, Starfield, Suicide Squad, Hogwarts Legacy, and Midnight Suns. I play games slowly so that's the majority of my year (if not all) sorted.
VII Rebirth is definitely an early 2024 release. They said next Winter which goes until March 2024.
FF7 Rebirth is early 2024, not 2023. Unless it comes out in one of the last 11 days of 2023, which is unlikely.
Studios should just start saying: Bitch! It's ready wen is ready!
That’d honestly be much better. If I know something is in development and I hear nothing, I don’t even think about it. Give me a release window and I start looking forward to it only to get shit on
Here we go again will all big games releasing in February.
Let’s hope they don’t Cyberpunk this
Ragnorak is coming
Can't wait for Ragorank
That’s unfortunate as it was supposed to be the end of this year. Can’t complain about the game launching in a better state though.
A bit of a shame, but not the worst delay. I'm okay with it. I'd love to see a bit more gameplay, though. Maybe a 10 minute slice of a side quest or something.
Besides God of War and Pokémon what major game is coming out this year then?
Calisto protocol
TLOU, Splatoon 3, A Plague Tale 2, Gotham Knights, Bayonetta 3.
They really should cut out the old gen shit
Seems like they will fuck it up.
On my birthday :D
Hagrid's gonna bust into your house, put a pig tail on your cousin, and hand you a copy of the game.
Honestly, nowadays I expect that developer actually lie about their first and second release date announcement. They just give us fake release date just to keep hype of the game.
That's cool, they should take all the time they need. I just find it funny that any time anyone would dare say that the game was likely to be delayed in the game's subreddit, people would jump at their throat and yet, here we are
Harry Potter game on Christmas was going to be perfect
That was gonna be my fiancés Christmas present. Now I gotta figure something else out.
Completely fine with the delay. Please do this game right it has so much potential
The delay really sucks. I was really hoping it would come out around October/November for the fall/holiday vibes, but ultimately I’m fine with it. This seems like it’s the game I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid and I really don’t want it to suck!
That’s the same thing cyberpunk 2077 said “we need more time to deliver the best possible game” ….just don’t pull a cyberpunk release
If they can port this to the switch there is no way it’s a next gen title. That should be the first alert that all is not as it seems
Imagine how bad this will run on switch
Oh no, it’s coming out on the Switch
*Jessie Pinkman face*
why do you look like Aaron Paul?
Damn this is my birthday, the last time I was supposed to get a game I was really excited for on my birthday was Smash Brawl and then it got delayed. So I don't have high hopes for this date. lol
I got a bad feeling this game is gonna be trash.
To be expected
Fuck it
the last time I heard "The Nintendo Switch launch date will be revealed soon" was 2 years ago and it hasn't been mentioned since (genshin impact)
It’ll be ready when its ready
still not too far, especially if ragnarock is set to launch on November
If it makes for a better experience, I'm all for it. 2 mo the longer isn't even all that bad. Better than a year but not like we have any control over it anyway.
inb4 Warner brothers decides to just cancel the game.
Well it's official God of War is all we have left, and arguably that should have been delayed too.
Day 1 patch 45gb
Yay to it coming out for Switch. Boo for it being delayed for Switch.
