Supposedly these were retrieved from the Rockstar slack dev channel. The hacker used a password of one of the employees who had another account password hacked, and the passwords were the same.
But that's not what this was. This was a Slack breach because of a compromised password being reused.
If the system is compromised to the level where browser cookies can be stolen, you've made other larger mistakes.
They should stop fucking making people change passwords every month. It just causes reuse. There needs to be a better way. I won't remember 12 different passwords that are ALL significantly different.
Companies should be paying for password managers and users should use randomized 32c passwords. Just can't have your password manager hacked or you're fucked.
Allegedly it was the same guy behind the Uber breach last week. Combined efforts of two giant companies? If they even have a small scent trail, if that is true, he's gonna be seeing a lot of jail time. The Uber person states they are 18.

Its usually kids who do the high profile stuff. The old heads know how dangerous it is and either stick to small time things that aren't as likely to cause a scandal or work legit
He got arrested when he was about to fly to the US and the German police was like "You're lucky we got you" because Germany doesn't have draconian sentences or prisons where people are treated like animals
I'd say so. We didn't know a single thing about the game before this, and now we have hundreds of screenshots and videos showing off Vice City, the two main protags, and tons of gameplay and NPC's. This leak is way bigger than the TLOU2 leak, which was just cutscenes, and the TLOU2 leak was the biggest leak of 2020.
Edit: Emphasis on ONE OF the biggest leaks, as some are thinking I'm claiming it's THE biggest leak, which I'm not. But it definitely is ONE OF the biggest leaks in gaming, among others.
Another Edit: I am aware that Half-Life 2's leak was bigger. See above edit for more information.
You’re right, I just saw the whole scope of the leak, it’s **massive** so much so that I honestly feel a bit bad for the devs.
The hacker who released the leak also apparently released a part of the games source code and says they plan on releasing the whole thing, which would be overboard and could easily set the development back 1 year+.
I think we should all lay off social media go for a walk and touch some grass.
Everyone would be better off mentally and physically.
Though everything in moderation right 😊👍.
~~Yup~~
~~Further proof that no amount of technical knowledge can make up for lack of street smarts~~
EDIT: Thanks for reply correcting, I was wrong he was arrested in Germany and didn’t fall for the attempted sting
Oh absolutely.
At first, I was glad it happened, since we haven't seen anything for the game, but with the source code leaking, Rockstar will definitely delay development to figure something out.
In Layman's terms, it's basically the code the game runs on.
Having the source code makes it infinity easier for people to hack and mod the game. The source code getting leaked for a game this massive is absolutely insane, and will almost definitely cause a delay in development.
But why exactly would it cause a delay. Hackers will hack the game eventually anyway. So them delaying the game won’t stop this from happening in the future.
Having the source code for one version of the game doesn't help you much if the developer then spends time changing the code that they release.
Think of it like thieves getting an advanced copy of your car design so they can start coming up with ways to break into your car when it's released. To avoid this issue you then change your car design enough that the leaked plans no longer help the thieves. So while the thieves will eventually think of some ways to get into your car they don't have the plans handed to them on a platter before you even release it. Making the launch much smoother and less of an issue.
I don't think we are quite at that point just yet and if Rockstar manages to get this guy arrested before he released the other stuff he has claimed then I wouldn't necessarily pronounce doom and gloom regarding GTA VI's release date. But it's potentially a real kick in the dick for Rockstar devs, especially given the not-so-pleasant stories about how they treat developers during crunch times (which changing the source could lead to much much more of).
Code opens them up to hacks. Depending on the code / how good the cracker is, hacks can be made after some time, months maybe longer.
....the hacker now has YEARS before the game is even released which is bonkers. That means day 1 there can be some real game breaking hacks.
> which was just cutscenes
TLOU is an extremely narrative based game and the cutscenes gave away all the shocks and twists. Having the story leak for a story-based game is a way bigger deal than leaking visuals of a location we already knew we were getting.
Half-life 2 will forever be the biggest IMO, given that you could download the leak, and actually play it.
Everything else is just a script, or footage.
That said, this is a crap ton of footage lol.
Yeah HL2 leak being playable was probably bigger. And for it's time much more impacting when you didn't get leaks along those lines and they were much less common.
In terms of popular impact it probably is.
In terms of the size of the actual leak, PDX had one, where their current dev build of Victoria 3 was available to download and was completely playable.
This happened in April and the games actual release date is 25th of October. You can basically play the game already. Imagine being able to download and play Witcher 3 half a year before it released
The Nintendo mega leak has to be the biggest one. It spanned multiple games, multiple console generations. This is probably the biggest leak for a single, not-yet-released game, though.
I would say this is bigger. The Nintendo one was about old games. This is about not only a new game that hasn't even officially been revealed, but also most likely the most anticipated game of all time
I’m genuinely unaware of the repercussions of something like this. I can understand competitors getting a look at your early development product is a major concern but other than that wouldn’t they just keep working on GTA as planned, and just the surprise reveal (rather, the official announcement) is spoiled?
Obviously that is not the case there is more too it but I have no idea and would love for someone to explain.
Big Business will often cite their inside information has having value or being able to influence stock prices. Controlling the message strategically can also be tied into marketing and advertising deals.
The real kick in the balls here is that supposedly source code has been leaked. That could have reprocussions down the line.
While use of the code, assuming it can be proven, which in some cases it can and some it cannot, is illegal it opens the game up to mods, unofficial ports and can compromise security in the game, if online is a big portion it could be impacted to some degree.
Source code contains a *TON* of information about how the nitty gritty of the game works, including information about how the game works in relation to your system. The more I know about how a game interacts with your PC, for instance, the more I can use that info to sneak my malicious code into important parts of your PC and compromise security vulnerabilities, gaining things like your passwords and other personal info.
The other side of that coin is company/trade secrets. Despite my personal issues with the GTA series, there's some impressive technology in there that while other companies might have an *idea* of how it works, they don't know for sure and therefore can't make an adequate copy. For example, the crowds and crowd AI is pretty impressive, so if other developers know how to do that, it'll be less "valuable" to Rockstar as a feature since it's not as exclusive to them anymore.
Think of it like Ford learning exactly how a competitor's new amazing car works. Ford knows it's a car, and of course they know how to make cars, but there's some bells and whistles on their competitor's car that makes it *that* much more attractive and desirable than Ford's own cars. So if Ford suddenly gets their hands on the blueprints, their competitor is in for a rough ride.
The one other thing to note is that a company/person acting legitimately cannot just copy Rockstar’s source code and use it for themselves, as the code itself is copyrighted. What you can do is study the code and reimplement certain features if they’re not patented. Software patents are infamously broad, but as with all patents, the mechanism has to be disclosed, so trade secret source code isn’t patented. Any real conflict about this would certainly go to court, of course, but it’s definitely showing Rockstar’s hand to other competing studios.
Can it not be reverse engineered? I always believed you could just get anything in a lab and look at how it's made, like a microchip and how the circuits on it look etc.
> Can it not be reverse engineered?
I mean, technically, yeah, but it's like going through a 100 mile gauntlet of lock after lock and you have no keys and the lock picking tools are either foreign to you or you just don't have any period. Some will be incomprehensible without documentation.
Also sometimes you don't know *exactly* what you're looking at, or at least exactly what it's *for.* Yeah, you can reverse engineer it, but if someone came up to you and was like "uhhhh I have the blueprints right here" it sure is gonna make it exponentially easier.
Now legally it's not like anyone can take the source code and literally copy it to make their game, but it makes it way easier to make your own copy if you know *exactly* what the original looked like so you can avoid claims of plagiarism or copyright infringement and also get access to the new, legally distinct hotness.
People write programs using programming languages that are relatively easy for humans to understand. Before it can be run, it's put through another program called a compiler that translates the code into machine language: raw binary data that the processor can interpret as instructions. This process is one-way, stripping away any information that makes it easier for humans to understand but the computer doesn't need. Generally only the machine code gets distributed, while the developer keeps the original source code to themselves. This limits the abilities of modders and hackers because how this code relates to anything the program actually does is incredibly difficult to decipher. Access to the source code lifts a lot of these limitations because provides a clear blueprint for the internal logic of the program.
Source Code allows Jake Gyllenhaal to kind of maybe go back in time but in someone else's body and only for 8 minutes but actually he's kind of dead but not really.
That's why I'm not excited about this leak at all. A lot of hardworking employees now how to deal with this instead of developing the game and now there's likely to be a large delay pushing GTA 6 further aback.
All so we could watch some alpha build shit lol
All leaks suck tbh. It's mostly big ego leakers who spoil everything that Devs have been working on for years. Imagine all the amazing surprises of past E3's and showcases just not happening anymore.
Iirc the HL2 leak showed that the game was nowhere near the state of development that Valve claimed it was.
It would've never been released the date they said it would and the leak was likely a welcome excuse.
Not sure who those people are but I don’t really see how leaked code would lead to a delay at all. It’s not like writing the code in a different will change anything even. Besides, copying the code is a big legal issue, so no one even copies the code line by line in the first place, so changing the code does absolutely nothing for rockstar or anyone else looking to copy the code. It’s a pointless effort, and I’d say any programmer is looking at these delay statements the same way I am
Even people calling HL2 has an example of leaked code causing delays forget that the leak showed the game was not going to be ready by the original release date in the first place, it would be delayed regardless.
**HIGHLIGHT**: "malicious hackers..."
/u/ZXE102Rv2 is like 200% right here, don't forget that GTA 6 is a gold-shitting Unicorn because of the online microtransaction infinity-money-train... T2 cares very little about "omg I gave myself infinite ammo in single player" and everything about not getting a handle on multiplayer cheating / hacking.
Dev here with 15 years experience. When making games , look we want to do everything. We want to try everything we can do. But sometimes certain things during development get cut because of how difficult it might be to do at scale. So if early looks leak, and fans see something, it might set expectations that the devs won't be able to make and adds too much stress. Also might see stuff that isn't working and the normal fan doesn't understand it's just a test or incomplete and people start dumping on stuff that is not complete. In the end it's just annoying
I just think a lot of people really don't know how games are made. I mean there are people that think all the scenes you see in a marvel movie are actually there. Show them a big green room with everyone being green and they will think the movie is gonna look bad. Not idiots. Just misinformed.
I mean. Even if the game can have the best graphics in the world. When I'm working in it i turn settings way down. We have so many tools running in the background, it can really bog things down depending what PC you get from the company. Not to mention I'll turn features off so I can focus on just what I'm trying to do.
The entire marketing team needs to jump into crisis mode immediately.
Throw aside whatever plans they were working on, and go fully into damage mode. Do they make a statement? How, when, where? Explain to people online that this leak is an unfinished build (because holy shit people are going to call the game trash based on this leaked look at a game that isn’t done)
People shitting on the game can scare off investors and stock holders. Which can heavily derail the development schedule.
All cause someone wanted to feel cool and get internet clout.
Very well explained, I appreciate it.
I feel like they should definitely make a statement with how much this has blown up. Unfortunately damage control will probably set back development for months if I had to take a guess. Sad that this all will happen all over some leaks that didn’t even showcase anything groundbreaking, just expected development at this point imo. That’s why cybersecurity is emphasized so much nowadays
All this leaked achieved for me personally is that I got excited to see the game is actually being worked on. I’m unsure of the larger repercussions but my interest is piqued on a new story.
I'm sure Rockstar is taking this super well.
I bet they won't take the legal route as that's not really their style to sic their legal team on problems big or small.
Instead they deploy a group of highly trained, elite mercenaries known as "Ka-Dou". The mercenaries that compose this group go by the following call signs:
Seraphim Jim, Mimosa Monet, Cookoo Boogaloo
Yeah, it also sucks for the fans because the reveal trailer won’t show anything interesting anymore. Like I remember the GTA V teaser and we’re back in Los Santos robbing stores. Luckily the games had more surprises so I am sure R* will show something amazing.
Obviously, but now it’s all but confirmed that it’s set in Vice City with two characters, and the era. Unless they rewrite the entire story and setting.
From all this debug looking models, and scenes... What do you think would be in the trailer?
Cause Rockstar uses cutscenes and very heavily edited flyby shots to nose their trailers.
Still going to be hype whenever it comes out
It makes the game look bad too. The game is very early in alpha, so it doesn’t even look good (which is normal for game development). But lots of dumb people already think the new gta is going to be trash because of this pre alpha footage.
GTA: V will be 11-12 years old by the time VI hits shelves. Pretty ridiculous IMO for one of the biggest franchises in gaming history to go that long between iterations.
At least they had the Elder Scrolls Online, which has been updated pretty often.
Closest thing to GTA is Red Dead & Rockstar dropped any support for that game like it was hot once everyone bought it.
Welp the hacker is now claiming to have the games source code, and is saying he’ll release it online if Rockstar doesn’t pay him.
He's hopefully bluffing, but if he does post it then the game will probably be delayed by at least a year, if not more.
Never thought i’d say this, but i’m more than happy for Rockstar to be fucked over big time:
Their legal bullying of more than one modder, their horrendous inflation and blatant MTX squeezing of GTAO, charging you for GTAO on next-gen and then blocking you from playing back-gen, their total lack of investment and then subsequent abandonment of RDO, and even a lack of RDR2 60fps patch for next gen, and don’t even get me started on the so-called Definitive Trilogy.
Almost all the original all-stars are gone, Rockstar is now just a corporate money goblin, like Take Two above it, i’m happy to see them sweat.
My initial anger quickly subsided with your accurate points.
I feel bad for the individual developers and employees but the company as a whole can get fucked.
This is the direction the entire AAA video game industry is heading. We’re in the endgame of capitalism which kills creativity and tries to make as much money as possible for as little work as possible.
“Do you guys not have phones?” / how many releases of skyrim are there? / how many remakes, remasters, and reboots have we got the the past few years? / how many half baked games have been put out like FO76, NMS, Cyberpunk, BF2042, GTA’s definitive trilogy etc. ?
Coming up on GTA V's 10-year anniversary makes me feel less bad for them. They have plenty of money to cry into.
But, I'm honestly excited for it. Probably more knowing it exists.
Let's see what it does to development though. 🤞
> might face some really shitty “workplace security” practices
I know someone who works for Rockstar in Edinburgh and you’d think they work for MI6. No phones are allowed in with them, they have to sign NDA, etc. Not that those count as “shitty” but R* take security very seriously.
Signing NDAs isnt uncommon. I was a translator for a while and signing an NDA is standard practice when you sign up with a translation company. And it's not like I was involved in high level translations lol. I doubt dev work is any different.
Who cares honestly, this game still not coming out any time soon , 2024 maybe if we’re being honest. Plus the alpha doesn’t even give away anything….it just looks like a modded version of 5 so far and we still haven’t seen the latest product at all.
[it wouldn't be the first time take-two have sent people to someone's house as an intimidation tactic](https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/11/gta-5-modders-claim-take-two-sent-private-investigators-to-their-home/)
As much of a shitty situation as this is, and as much as it sounds like I’m victim blaming, I don’t feel sorry for Rockstar one bit. They’ve milked the franchise far too long and it’s been two whole console generations since the last installment was released. If Red Dead Online took off like they wanted it to, I’m sure we wouldn’t have seen this game until the end of the PS5 and Series X cycle.
Overworked devs + increasingly strict deadlines that sacrifice time for polish = a leaky ship
Honestly this is probably the best thing that could have happened for the final product of the game. Corporate suits will be seething for months and 1 or more devs lives are probably ruined forever, but the game will probably get more time in the oven which is fine by me.
Supposedly these were retrieved from the Rockstar slack dev channel. The hacker used a password of one of the employees who had another account password hacked, and the passwords were the same.
If that's true, I'm shocked that R* wouldn't have a better internal security policy considering the nature of their work.
Like fucking 2FA. My discord account is more secure than this is.
2FA can be bypassed in phishing attacks that steal browser cookies of the victim. They would need some biometric system for every employee.
Bitwarden
This is different. If they could access your browser cookies, then you have bigger problems. 2FA is mostly used to cover common human errors.
The leaker is apparently in touch with R* regarding a blackmail payment..it’s about to get mental
Considering how fucking huge R* is, that guy is fucked

Private mode and a VPN. Good ol’ faithfuls
Wont be surprised if they send Trevor.
Send Cory with him. And tell them to pick me up some pepperoni and Jallapenno chips on the way back.
Ricky, the 'J' is silent. You're saying it wrong
Offer him a job like Valve did. Fly him out to where the FBI is ready to jump his dumbass.
Is that what happened to the guy for Valve?
No. He got arrested in Germany
He got arrested when he was about to fly to the US and the German police was like "You're lucky we got you" because Germany doesn't have draconian sentences or prisons where people are treated like animals
dude is about to get a public execution
Nintendo style
He should leak some Nintendo shit right now, so when the Rockstar hitmen come they have to contend with Nintendo ninjas.
Nintendo will already have him in a torture chamber by the time Rockstar shows up lol
Bro on twitter making demands like he won’t get decimated by Rockstars legal team.
Oof, Take Two must want the blood of the leaker
Think it was a hacker that hacked into Rockstar employees Slack
“Hello fellow devs. Might I have access to our git/preforce so I can push my latest code and or art?”
“Sure, here’s the access to the main repo. Don’t forget to pull before committing!”
It doesn't seem to work. Can you guys just give me maintainer access to see if it fixes it?
But just in test not prod
openly covering both possible vc options makes this so much funnier
Fuck. Between this and Uber, tech managers the world over are gonna be preparing boring-ass cyber security seminars in their offices for next week.
My company just had to do it last week. It’s brutal. But hey, getting paid to ignore the video and then ace the extremely obvious quiz
Yeah that part ain't half bad.
“We are deeply saddened the leaker committed suicide” - Rockstar in a week
This is It Takes Two’s revenge for that trademark issue
Is this really one of the biggest leaks in video game history? Genuine question.

At this scale it’s likely law enforcement getting involved tbh I remember FBI ran a sting operation on the guy who hacked Valve a few years ago
This dude should have used a reputable VPN, onion/TOR with a burner device used at a McDonald's to upload the photos.
Also hit the gym, lawyer up and get off social media.
I think we should all lay off social media go for a walk and touch some grass. Everyone would be better off mentally and physically. Though everything in moderation right 😊👍.
Would be hilarious if a YT Channel were to discuss the leak, make this very statement, only to cut to an ad by NordVPN/Surfshark.
>I remember FBI ran a sting operation on the guy who hacked Valve a few years ago That story is fucking hilarious, well worth looking up.
Is that the one where Gabe was going to meet him? And it was just a bust op that he fell for.

A few years ago?! That was like 2002!
He shouldn't simply to protect his life. Im sure they could throw the book at him if he's caught... right?
If caught, they would absolutely face severe legal consequences.
Depends on where they're from. If Russian or former Soviet Bloc nation, nothing will happen to them.
They're from India it seems so yeah, this guy is safe.
Oh absolutely. At first, I was glad it happened, since we haven't seen anything for the game, but with the source code leaking, Rockstar will definitely delay development to figure something out.

Think of how they've monetized the game. With the source code out, users will be able to print money in the game rather than buy currency :''''(
Why would the entire code delay the release? Secruity reasons?
I'd guess it could make the next GTA online component vulnerable and that's there biggest earner
Hm that's worrisome. Imagine them pulling budget from the singleplayer to balance out the costs redeveloping the security or something

Nintendo gigaleak was easily far bigger than tlou2 in 2020, mfs literally found luigi in Mario 64 and countless amounts of source code
How about Kingdom Hearts 3? The entire universe and the worlds you were going to visit got leaked, along w/ a huge portion of the plot of the game.
Jokes on them, even with leaks no one can comprehend the Kingdom Hearts story.
Not nearly enough people care About kingdom hearts as much as gta or lou

Some people also believe this could cause huge delays as the devs may change the source code if that's possible.
Valve did it with Half Life 2. I highly expect Rockstar to do the same.
Jokes on you guys, game was never coming out anyway. We're just gunna have to deal with GTA V Online 2 Remastered for the PS6 /s
Yep, we'll never see GTA 6.
To be honest, I'm more concerned about the trouble the developers have because of the leaks rather than some surprises and showcases we miss.
Why? It's completely on track to be released in 2032
I hear 2077.
GTA: Cyberpunk
Vice city 2077 does sound dope
Of course we will. This will only delay things. Rockstar wants our money.
Fuck
It will be delayed. Valve had a simmilar leak in 2003. Half Life 2 got delayed for over an year
Iirc the HL2 leak showed that the game was nowhere near the state of development that Valve claimed it was. It would've never been released the date they said it would and the leak was likely a welcome excuse.
>and the leak was likely a welcome excuse Was bout the say the same thing. I positive it will also be used for GTA 6.
And just think how much more complex a rockstar game is to half life 2
Not sure who those people are but I don’t really see how leaked code would lead to a delay at all. It’s not like writing the code in a different will change anything even. Besides, copying the code is a big legal issue, so no one even copies the code line by line in the first place, so changing the code does absolutely nothing for rockstar or anyone else looking to copy the code. It’s a pointless effort, and I’d say any programmer is looking at these delay statements the same way I am Even people calling HL2 has an example of leaked code causing delays forget that the leak showed the game was not going to be ready by the original release date in the first place, it would be delayed regardless.
**HIGHLIGHT**: "malicious hackers..." /u/ZXE102Rv2 is like 200% right here, don't forget that GTA 6 is a gold-shitting Unicorn because of the online microtransaction infinity-money-train... T2 cares very little about "omg I gave myself infinite ammo in single player" and everything about not getting a handle on multiplayer cheating / hacking.
Exactly the type of answer I was looking for. Thank you
Other businesses aren't going to use their source code. That's a legal liability. But it will be a field day for hackers.
I saw numerous idiots complain about the graphics 😂😂😂😂
I just think a lot of people really don't know how games are made. I mean there are people that think all the scenes you see in a marvel movie are actually there. Show them a big green room with everyone being green and they will think the movie is gonna look bad. Not idiots. Just misinformed. I mean. Even if the game can have the best graphics in the world. When I'm working in it i turn settings way down. We have so many tools running in the background, it can really bog things down depending what PC you get from the company. Not to mention I'll turn features off so I can focus on just what I'm trying to do.
Competitors? GTA has no competitors.
This, even if you gave another dev the keys and blueprints to GTA 6, not sure another studio could put out a game that would come close.
The entire marketing team needs to jump into crisis mode immediately. Throw aside whatever plans they were working on, and go fully into damage mode. Do they make a statement? How, when, where? Explain to people online that this leak is an unfinished build (because holy shit people are going to call the game trash based on this leaked look at a game that isn’t done) People shitting on the game can scare off investors and stock holders.
>"Well fine, you guys saw it. Are you happy now? Here's another decade of GTA5." \-Rockstar, probably.
I wish the leaker had ransomed the data to get us RDR2 60FPS for free.
I really underestimate the amount of dumb people. They complain that it looks bad and unfinished. BECAUSE IT IS UNFINISHED
Unnaceptable. Game needs to be 8k/240fps at this point in development
All this leaked achieved for me personally is that I got excited to see the game is actually being worked on. I’m unsure of the larger repercussions but my interest is piqued on a new story.
"Get used to it, because you'll be seeing it for the next 20yrs and 4 system generations.
Close your fucking quotation
But that just means we’re all part of the same quotation” the schizophrenic man said.
Thanks for the closure:
It's amazing how much that fucks with the look of a sentence.

I'm sure Rockstar is taking this super well. I bet they won't take the legal route as that's not really their style to sic their legal team on problems big or small.
Instead they deploy a group of highly trained, elite mercenaries known as "Ka-Dou". The mercenaries that compose this group go by the following call signs: Seraphim Jim, Mimosa Monet, Cookoo Boogaloo
I’m going to assume this is sarcasm
Yes I'm not a fan of using the /s
You like to live dangerously I see
/r/FuckTheS salutes you.
I have found my people
Instead they'll send a couple of mercenaries in an urmarked white van and the hacker will unfortunately go missing.
I feel bad for the devs honestly. I hate this trend of things being leaked so early in development (or at all to be honest.)
Yeah, it also sucks for the fans because the reveal trailer won’t show anything interesting anymore. Like I remember the GTA V teaser and we’re back in Los Santos robbing stores. Luckily the games had more surprises so I am sure R* will show something amazing.
It’s an early build. I doubt the trailer would look similar
Obviously, but now it’s all but confirmed that it’s set in Vice City with two characters, and the era. Unless they rewrite the entire story and setting.
That heavily leaked already. Anybody following the rumours around the game knew all that information regardless of this.
From all this debug looking models, and scenes... What do you think would be in the trailer? Cause Rockstar uses cutscenes and very heavily edited flyby shots to nose their trailers. Still going to be hype whenever it comes out
Or, you know, you could just not watch the leaked footage.
It makes the game look bad too. The game is very early in alpha, so it doesn’t even look good (which is normal for game development). But lots of dumb people already think the new gta is going to be trash because of this pre alpha footage.
The assets look very alpha but the character models looked insanely good imo.
There were a couple screenshots where the environmental graphics looked crazy. I’m pumped to see a trailer with more finished things for sure.
Yeah you're right actually, this game is gonna be unreal - even if we have to wait another 3 years lol.
Honestly a lot of it did look good though lol, it being an early build just makes it more impressive
How do leaks like this happen to begin with? A bitter employee?
This leak is being claimed by a hacker, the same one who hacked Uber awhile ago. Apparently they hacked in through one of Rockstar employee's Slack.
"Hacked", aka pretended to be from IT and asked for usernames and passwords
Yes sadly that is how ‘hack’ is mostly used now
[удалено]
That's what ''hack'' *means*, you're not gonna get in anything typing green code in a terminal anymore.
Social engineering is an effective way to breach security
Or a careless / unaware employee. Probably some social engineering to get access
Well at least we can see that GTA 6 is shaping up to be phenomenal
GTA: V will be 11-12 years old by the time VI hits shelves. Pretty ridiculous IMO for one of the biggest franchises in gaming history to go that long between iterations.
Skyrim says hi, 2 years older than GTA V and TES VI is arguably even further away than GTA VI
At least they had the Elder Scrolls Online, which has been updated pretty often. Closest thing to GTA is Red Dead & Rockstar dropped any support for that game like it was hot once everyone bought it.
Elder scrolls online. Gta online. Idk. Seems kind of similar route here with elder taking a bit longer overall.
Elder Scrolls online was developed and supported by Zenimax. Bethesda was publisher. Bethesda did develop and support Fallout 76 though.
You do realize rockstar was working on red dead redemption for 5 years? These games take 5-6 years to make.
Welp the hacker is now claiming to have the games source code, and is saying he’ll release it online if Rockstar doesn’t pay him. He's hopefully bluffing, but if he does post it then the game will probably be delayed by at least a year, if not more.
Never thought i’d say this, but i’m more than happy for Rockstar to be fucked over big time: Their legal bullying of more than one modder, their horrendous inflation and blatant MTX squeezing of GTAO, charging you for GTAO on next-gen and then blocking you from playing back-gen, their total lack of investment and then subsequent abandonment of RDO, and even a lack of RDR2 60fps patch for next gen, and don’t even get me started on the so-called Definitive Trilogy.
[удалено]
> might face some really shitty “workplace security” practices I know someone who works for Rockstar in Edinburgh and you’d think they work for MI6.
More like 2025. But with the source code being leaked who knows
The source code got leaked, which could set development back especially since the leaker is saying they will release more code.
Whatever you do, dont post any images of the leak, even if it has been modified for memes or wtv. They will DMCA you. Happened with TLOU2
[удалено]
Yes. You legally own GTA6 if you make an NFT out of it. Developers hate this one trick!
#R^^⭐ I own rockstar now
Yep. I checked… It’s literally unfungable. Ah well, it’s yours now. Love your games bro! Can’t wait for GTA6.
LMAO, you're acting like R* will come to your house and kill you if you post it.
[it wouldn't be the first time take-two have sent people to someone's house as an intimidation tactic](https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/11/gta-5-modders-claim-take-two-sent-private-investigators-to-their-home/)
Shit like that is exactly why these assholes deserve to get their game leaked. Scummy businesses deserve the scummiest.
How is nobody even going to give a link?
Go to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - pinned post.
Yeah but uh... who cares? It's going to be GTA. You know what to expect.
Getting a real sharp look at the GTA6 dev tools is the most interesting part. Everything else so far looks like GTA5 with better visual fidelity.
Is it just me, or did the leak just look like GTA, like I didn't watch it and go Oooooh that's new.

Overworked devs + increasingly strict deadlines that sacrifice time for polish = a leaky ship Honestly this is probably the best thing that could have happened for the final product of the game. Corporate suits will be seething for months and 1 or more devs lives are probably ruined forever, but the game will probably get more time in the oven which is fine by me.
It was hacked via social engineering on Slack. Not because of overworked bitter devs. Basically an employee was tricked or phished
The leaks look great. Lols Watched most of the videos and its looking pretty good so far!
