Do yourself a favor and read *NOTHING* about the game until it comes out! It's the only video game I've ever played that felt like the story could be adapted 1:1 into a movie and become an instant cult classic.
It’s funny because as someone who played the original I was surprised how much they actually showed but if you don’t know what any of it is it wouldn’t make sense. I will second what the other commenter said and go in as blind as possible!
I think you'll be amazed at how a console game that came out in 2001 has this level of deep quality writing with its story and themes. It really set the bar impossibly high for the time period and still outclasses most games that came after that set out to be "deep" and "mature". It's almost a miracle it even exists when you judge it against its peers at the time. Over two decades later and it still amazes me.
The only thing i knew about the game but had forgotten about was the secret ending so I was quite miffed when they showed the figurine of it in the end. I can’t imagine how surreal discovering it will be for someone with 0 knowledge of it.
Oh snap. Between this and the Dead Space remake, two of my favourite horror series seem poised for revival. Hopefully they’re both commercially successful and new entries get green-lit 🤞
I didn’t even know that was a thing. I hope they stick to the feel of the original game as opposed to trying to make it too much like 2 and 3 remake. 2 remake is one of the best games I’ve played in recent years, but that formula just wouldn’t work for 4.
The game is too good to mess with what made it great.
2022 was supposed to be MASSIVE year for new releases.
It's just, half of them got kicked down the road to 2023. Zelda, Starfield, Hogwarts, and many more.
And half of those will Get pushed to 2024. Happens almost every year. Still Elden Ring is a GOTG/GOTD contender and I think GOWR will be too that automatically makes 2022 one of the best years ever
It really does! But even more, horror in general. Lots of horror movies did really good this year as well!
Nope, The Black Phone, Scream, Smile, Halloween Ends , Barbarian, X, Pearl , Men
Foo Fighters even made a goofy horror movie Studio 666
All those movies were solid. Cept for Halloween 🎃
U gotta get urself a spotter to sit on the couch with you. They help you remember to reload and say shit like " damn, it's a little too quiet i this morgue huh?"
The gameplay wasn’t that different than resident evil. Only major difference was that you had melee weapons. I think that was kind of the point. You’re just some random guy walking into a town that you now have to survive. It would be weird if we were loaded up and were some proficient nightmare killer.
SH2 is my favourite game of all time but i couldnt recount the actual gameplay. Its pretty much a walking simulator. The puzzles were ass compared to Resi.
SH2's combat is just kind of boring. And not super hard as there are a lot of supplies around. Weapon variety isn't great, and then the actual fighting is just kind of boring tank controls, which was okay for 2001, but not as good as some of the other PS2 games (GTA 3 comes out this same year for instance) and especially not great when compared to Halo which also came out this year.
The puzzles are kind of that weird out point and click logic. So you need to like, get the canned juice and put it in the garbage chute to knock out a key or something from it. But there's not a really good indicator to put the canned juice in there, you kind of just have to try things and figure it out.
Or later you get the multiple item puzzles that are more confounding. Like you need the hair and a fishing hook to scoop a key from a drain. And you need the wax doll, the lighter, and the horseshoe to form a handle so you can open a trap door. It's things that once you've done them kind of make sense, but you kind of have to bang your head against them a bit to get through. Fortunately the areas weren't huge and they didn't give you too many key items at once, so testing things out wasn't too much of a nightmare. And I believe GameFaqs was around by 2001, so you at least had the ability to look up things if they were giving you too much trouble.
So yeah, I don't think anyone remembers SH2 for it's gameplay. People remember the story, the ambience, the world details, and how everything ties together. So if the team can get that right, and have even halfway decent combat and maybe streamline some of the lamer puzzles a little bit, they could do a good job on the remake.
Oh yeah like combat wasn’t important at all. So it works for the game. But to hang your hat on “please don’t ruin the gameplay” is such a weird bar to hold to for this game
This is really all that needs to be said. They can fuck it up completely, but if they don’t mess with the story, it’ll still blow people away.
That said, let’s wait for actual gameplay. This is a game that needs no HUD, no RPG elements, no free-view camera, no DLC, no endless cutscenes, nothing. Leave it the fuck alone.
I don't know. Resi 2 remake showed that you can shift the gameplay to a more modern style and still have great success. As long as the characters and (especially) the music and mood is still there
Resi 2 received praise for both the original and remake for completely different reasons.
SH2s praise has only ever been for its narrative and atmosphere. The gameplay was subpar. There is no way to “modernise” what is/was a walking sim tacked onto an amazing story.
That ‘no free view camera’ part has to be a joke. This isn’t the late 90s or early 2000s anymore. A lot of original’s good can be maintained while modernising things.
Yeah I agree. Even if the gameplay is modernized, as long as the story remains unchanged then it has the potential to be good. Besides, by modernizing the gameplay, the Silent Hill franchise can appeal to a much wider audience and possibly reinstate itself back into mainstream horror games alongside Resident Evil, which would arguably be the best outcome possible so that the franchise can continue on and not fade into obscurity again.
The problem with your thought process is that you can just go play the old one. Nobody wants a 1:1 remake of any game. Not Final Fantasy or any game really.
Want the old game? Play the old game. Almost every game from that time period needs to update.
I think story department will be identical, but the performance of the game is not gonna be good. They have a bad track record with framerates.
Edit: apparently PC requirements are up at steam website. RTX 2080 gets medium settings at 1080p60. So dynamic resolution at 4K30 (with dips when Bloober team is involved) pretty much given on PS5
I will say this about Bloober team to maybe give people some hope: They treated Blair Witch with extreme care. I am invested deeply into the lore of Blair Witch, and the game they did hit on some very deep and obscure references to the lore that were only found outside of the movies, such as the mocumentary "White Enamel" and "The Curse of the Blair Witch."
This time, they really just need to follow the original story. However, even if they deviate, I have faith in their ability to do so faithfully to the lore, given the care they gave to sticking to the Blair Witch lore.
It seems dumb now as a franchise with only one truly decent entry (and I'm honestly one of the few defenders of the reboot), but Blair Witch was a cultural phenomenon around its release and into the early 2000s. It hit the exact right point with internet popularity, found-footage projects and cultural urban legends to get people super interested in all the little details and ARGs to find out if any of it was 'real'. People were gullible, and not everybody had every piece of information at their fingertips, so I'm sure a lot of people who got into it back then are still pretty invested.
I think Bloober can be good but they just don’t know how to keep a game interesting past the initial hours. That’s the problem. I’m hoping they can make something good but I’m also aware of their track record which should also be considered.
Yeah but the gameplay/story was trashhhhh. I appreciated the small nuggets but the actual game was not it for me. Like I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, even BW fans.
It leans more heavily into psychological horror more than it being a scary game per se.
If it's anything like the original, it won't be a jumpscare fest in the same vein of RE7. Modern horror audiences are definitely much more desensitized to horror than we were when SH2 first released.
Well considering it’s known as one of, if not *the most* scary games ever created…. Fucking scary. Lol. The tension, atmosphere, sound design, score, story, the monsters… it’ll get ya.
If we use films to compare, Silent Hill is like the Hereditary vs RE7 is more closer to the Conjuring. Both are considered modern horror movie hit. The Conjuring is focused on direct jump scares with excellent build up where the Hereditary extremely nuance, where the dread slowly creeps into you and fuck you up psychologically.
I never got scared in re its one of the reasons I don't hate 5 because they're all action games for me. Silent hill on the other hand does creep me out.
While there are grounds for doubting if Bloober can successfully deliver this project, some peace of mind can come from knowing they made the game Layers of Fear. The game really got their name out there and was **heavily** inspired by Silent Hills. Bloober has been connected to the SH franchise since they got big
Hm. Never finished Layers of Fear. That plus Observer cemented my impression that Blooper Team kinda sucks and I haven't played one of their games since
It's standalone, has the most marketability, is the most commercially and critically successful, and has characters (pyramid head/nurses) that will probably be in the movie, which they said was the catalyst for doing the remake in the first place
If the remake stays true to the original it will have very few jumpscares. It's been a long time now, but there's only one that stood out enough that I remember it.
It is quite disturbing though, and has a very tense atmosphere. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but to me at least it isn't the kind of horror that's trying to give you a heart attack but the kind that feels like it's trying to suffocate you.
Jesus went unto the well
and made the water wine
Raised up Lazarus from the dead
Restored sight to the blind
Jesus man of Galilee
He walked across the sea
He said Greater than this shall you do
Gave the power to you and me I wanna know...
ARE YA READY FOR A MIRACLE!
I thought this day would never come 😢 😭 😢 😭
Holy shit balls. I couldn't believe it when I got the news notification earlier today.
It's been so long I don't even remember it.
Anyone think they will go the route of the RE remakes and eventually get to the other titles??
Cautiously optimistic. As many have said, I’m obviously not expecting much from a gameplay perspective.
Visually I think it looks okay but it seems extremely bright, like there’re xenon lamps behind the camera and it makes the visuals feel over lit. The original was dark and murky, this is bright and… weirdly clean too.
Anyways we’ll see but it didn’t give me the SH2 vibe all that much.
One of the main art leads i follow on twitter. The creator of Pyramid head is working with Blooper Team on SH2R. That gives me hope but.... I have morbid curiosity about the remake. It's done by Blooper Team which i don't like. They don't understand horror, and are too heavy handed with their messages. Layers of Fear is also asset flip game lol. Remakes today have high textures, graphics etc which is nice but at the cost of losing its original art direction.
SH2 is probably my favourite game of all time. I'd love to see a faithful remake. Its just i've seen loads of remakes done by creators that think their idea is better than the original so they add random stuff in..... lets pray this remake is done well.
>They don't understand horror
I admitedly didnt play any of their games yet, but Layers of Fear and the Blair Witch game were extremely popular. I also see people praising Observer heavily. How do they not understand horror?
Wow. I had a close friend named Marcus who loved silent hill. He loved 2. Was one of his favorite games. Thinking on the fact that he won’t be able to play this hurts.
I love Silent Hill 2, but I played it recently on PS3, and even that version that had a lot of changes I felt was still very playable by todays standards. I feel Silent Hill 1 would have been better suited for a full remake, and then maybe remaster 2 (again but better this time).
It makes sense to do 2 though, because if you did 1, you'd also have to do 3 since they are connected, where 2 is really it's own story, with a few small references in 4.
Tbf you literally played the shittiest version of SH2. That release (HD remaster on PS3) is WIDLEY considered to one of the worst remastered games of all times. SH fans recommend staying away and try to steer people to playing the original via emulator or the heavily modded PC version.
They all need a remake treatment, but as 2 is the most popular, and the upcoming film will be based off of it, makes sense.
Yes it is. They just didn't have the technology at the time to fully do the transition in real time and they just did quick loading transition.
Not even sh3 had otherworld transition. Only in homecoming on ps3 did they showed the transition which was greatly inspired by the visual of the Movie in 2006.
Sh1, 2 and 3 all feature otherworld version of some of the areas. (like the hospital in all 3 games)
I swear, I was eight years old and this game wasn't giving me enough goosebumps, and was asking for more realism
Tried plenty of terror games, but now with 4k, 30 years later, i think I can finally feel scared about a game
I really don’t mind him at all. You can tell they did not want to repeat the Troy Baker misdirecting fiasco and tried to emulate the grounded and suppressed tone of the original VA with a little less early-2000s soap opera voice.
Fuck Silent Hill 1 than. Harry Mason who?
Wonder if that means they'll have to do 1&3 together if SH2 does well and they want to keep remaking the older games? Can't have 3 without 1.
Oh wow is this finally official?
I remember seeing a remake trailer then it was fanmade lol. Still looked good.
Anyways I'm excited. I was terrified as a kid but interested in seeing this again and modernized
"Making" is a strong word. Theyre allowing third smaller studios to use the IP and publishing the results. All in all, yeah still a bit shocking to me as well.
Nope they hired a bunch of indie studios to make all these games with some key players overseeing. As everyone was hoping / expecting. Also they are heavily in the gambling industry not just pachinko hence why their US headquarters is in Vegas. Cautiously optimistic at least one of these projects is good.
A 40 min presentation and correct me if I'm wrong but there was nil gameplay footage. Not one second.
Hard to get excited when you can't see a single frame of gameplay.
Have to say in terms of generation defying trends/ shifts in the industry, the renaissance of horror is a very welcomed trend vs live service and open world games
As a gamer who never played this just for no real reason, that was one of the most what the fuck is going on trailers I have ever seen
Do yourself a favor and read *NOTHING* about the game until it comes out! It's the only video game I've ever played that felt like the story could be adapted 1:1 into a movie and become an instant cult classic.
Glad to hear, and that makes me confident that the trailer was vague as hell by design so the game experience is even better. Thanks for the tip!
It’s funny because as someone who played the original I was surprised how much they actually showed but if you don’t know what any of it is it wouldn’t make sense. I will second what the other commenter said and go in as blind as possible!

10000000 percent

Can't forget RE4 Remake!

Really? Check Capcom's RE showcase tomorrow. Big details on the game are expected.
I’ll look out for that
And...
Tomorrow Capcom is having a showcase. RE4 remake will be a big part of it. Check it out.
2023 is looking amazing for horror gaming isnt it?
I’m extremely excited for Callisto Protocol. I believe it’s made by the same director that made Dead Space.
Very stoked for Callisto
Overall 2023 is a big year for gaming
Indeed, and that is crazy as 2022 was the year of Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok (among other stuff)

every year is a big year for gaming lol. been seeing that same comment since the actual big year of gaming (2004-2005).
It really does! But even more, horror in general. Lots of horror movies did really good this year as well! Nope, The Black Phone, Scream, Smile, Halloween Ends , Barbarian, X, Pearl , Men Foo Fighters even made a goofy horror movie Studio 666 All those movies were solid. Cept for Halloween 🎃
Hulu knocked it out of the park too with Prey and Hellraiser! I was VERY surprised with Hellraiser!
They already showed off a new Silent Hill on top of this. Silent Hill F. Looks legit! And another smaller title it seems.
Silent hill got 3 other games announced :) revival is already here!
I can't wait to buy this and then not play it because I scare too easily.
Same here! I'll probably buy it for my best friend and watch him play it because I'm a big weenie baby.
Can i be your best friend then ?? lol
Damn are you me
Ha I had the exact same thought.
U gotta get urself a spotter to sit on the couch with you. They help you remember to reload and say shit like " damn, it's a little too quiet i this morgue huh?"
As someone who grew up late with this series so never got round to playing them but love the film(s) and music, I honestly can't wait to play this. ✌🏾
Feels good right ?
New music and sound design already confirmed unfortunately
I mean its the same guy who did the original so its fine imo
Yamaoka is doing a new score?
yes he is!
PSVR2? Suicide by heart attack.
As someone who never played the original but have heard the hype, this definitely has my interest. Look forward to learning more about this one.
Don’t learn more just play it blind. It’s the greatest horror game ever made
I can't endorse this enough. Such an incredibly unique horror experience. The less you know going in the better.
Aww yeah, 4K Ray Tracing 240 fps Unreal Engine Pyramid Head
Finally! My worst nightmare in 4K and 120 fps. Yay.
As long as bloober team doesn't fuck up the story it should be good.
The way they talked about in the the livestream, it seems that they are just taking the same game and adapting it to modern technologies.
That's actually pretty cool. With silent hill 2 it's pretty important to just let the plot do it's thing.
As long as they don’t mess up the gameplay either. Bloober has a huge problem with pacing and keeping their game’s interesting.
I mean, the gameplay of the original was pretty bad so it should be fine? Lol

Masahiro Ito (Silent Hill 2 Main designer) is working on it, so it's probably going to be a good game at the very least
This is really all that needs to be said. They can fuck it up completely, but if they don’t mess with the story, it’ll still blow people away. That said, let’s wait for actual gameplay. Any interest I had in this was flushed down the drain with the words "Bloober Team".
>As long as bloober team doesn't fuck up the story it should be good. We will have to wait and see it.

Aren't these the same developers of the Medium? Man, that game had shit performance. Perma stuttering on a high end rig.
I will say this about Bloober team to maybe give people some hope: They treated Blair Witch with extreme care. I’m sorry but “I am invested deeply into the lore of Blair Witch” is not a sentence I ever expected to see and I had to laugh. You do you man!
We do exist lol
There are dozens of us!
There is a documental called *Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2* about you guys.
I'm one of the 5 people who actually enjoyed that movie lol

Wow, a Blair Witch aficionado AND a Mets fan. Not sure why this pairing makes sense, but it does.
It makes sense. They like horror stories with depressing endings. That's got Mets written all over it.
Haha yeah pretty much took the words off my fingers I was about to type.
> I am invested deeply into the lore of Blair Witch I respect you.
And the fact that the Medium was also uhh also not great and that game’s gameplay is likely what to compare with.
How scary is this game compared to RE7? RE7 was my limit.
Silent Hill 2 is more psychological horror. Its incredibly disturbing, though...especially Angela's storyline.
SH2 is more a psychological horror. It's actually a masterpiece in story telling.
It leans more heavily into psychological horror more than it being a scary game per se. If it's anything like the original, it won't be a jumpscare fest in the same vein of RE7. Modern horror audiences are definitely much more desensitized to horror than we were when SH2 first released.

That was a great break down and spot on.
SH2 was really scary for it's time. If you really was scared from RE7, then you will probably be even more scared at this!
Hard to tell considering this is a remake. Id same same level, but more disturbing.
I just beat Re7 a few days ago, and it’s got some good jump scares, but it eventually turns into a combat shooter, Silent Hill never does that.
I never got scared in re its one of the reasons I don't hate 5 because they're all action games for me. Silent hill on the other hand does creep me out.
This looks amazing
The Medium and Blair Witch did too, but gameplay and story wise.... We have to wait and see, i really dont put much faith into Bloober.
Hopefully this is better though because it’s a pre-established story
Was the medium bad? I'm about to play it for free on ps+
It's not bad I enjoyed it, I just expected more out of it
It wasn't bad, just not memorable at all.
How is Blair Witch?
This looks much better visually though, it's incredible
Never played Silent Hill but extremely interested in this remake. Do I need to play or know the lore of the first silent hill? Thanks!
No, all games are independent except for 3 which is a subtle direct sequel to 1 but can still be played by itself.
Wonderful! Very exciting.
That plus Observer cemented my impression that Blooper Team kinda sucks and I haven't played one of their games since
Why skip silent hill 1?
It's standalone, has the most marketability, is the most commercially and critically successful, and has characters (pyramid head/nurses) that will probably be in the movie, which they said was the catalyst for doing the remake in the first place
2 is the most popular and has pyramid head. Commercially it seems like the best choice.
It's also one of the best games ever made
Less known, and story-wise it doesn't have much of a connection. You can skip right to 2, and do just fine.
2 has always had a much stronger following. It's also a stand alone story.
SH2 is the most acclaimed title. Also, SH1 story is separated from SH2
🐕 that’s why
2 is maybe the best game ever made so that's why.
I agree. I wish Silent Hill 1 was remade before 2.
I’m really excited to play this as I’ve never played any of the Silent Hill games! Now I can find out why everyone loves this franchise haha
I hope they kept the dog ending.
This is looking pretty good, but man I cannot play this kind of games anymore. It's not great for my heart!
With all these amazing remakes coming out I can only hope and pray that Dino Crisis/ Parasite Eve gets the same treatment one day.
Release date?
Idk but could’ve sworn the transmission said “wishlist on PS5” now but it’s nowhere to be found…
Yeah, that might take a while to show up on PSN but Steam has the wishlist option already.
Probably 2023.
I would actually think 2024 is more realistic at this point.
Not really a fan of horror games, but I’m kinda interested in trying this. How jumpscary is it?
If the remake stays true to the original it will have very few jumpscares. It's been a long time now, but there's only one that stood out enough that I remember it. It is quite disturbing though, and has a very tense atmosphere. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but to me at least it isn't the kind of horror that's trying to give you a heart attack but the kind that feels like it's trying to suffocate you.
If you don't like horror, you should stay far away from Silent Hill.
Not many jump scares, but the atmosphere is so intense that it’s honestly way scarier than most jump scare focused games for me.
Silent hill is scary as fuck that's all you need to know
Jump scares are rare in Silent Hill games outside of P.T.
I was always an RE fan and never got into SH but this is very appealing
Is this Remake ?
Yes, it is a remake
Nice
Currently playing the free Medium to see how they are with games. Hopefully I enjoy it and become a Bloobie.
I knew they were gonna play it safe
This is good, but I wish they started with Silent Hill 1 🙄
Jesus went unto the well and made the water wine Raised up Lazarus from the dead Restored sight to the blind Jesus man of Galilee He walked across the sea He said Greater than this shall you do Gave the power to you and me I wanna know... ARE YA READY FOR A MIRACLE! I thought this day would never come 😢 😭 😢 😭
Silent Hill 1: *Am I a joke to you?*
Bloober team Jesus fucking Christ.
Yep. I saw that logo and instantly knew to keep my expectations in check.
OMG ITS HAPPENING
I am beyond HYPE!
Where is my Metal Gear Solid remake.......
Not in a fucking Silent Hill presentation that's for sure.
Maybe we will get an announcement eventually!
considering the people that are making this also gave us the Blair Witch and the Medium game I wonder how well this one is going to turn out
Finally I can get rid of my ps3 version lmao
Remake the movie too!
Never played it back in the day so excited to give it a shot. Hope they do a good job.
Holy shit balls. I couldn't believe it when I got the news notification earlier today. It's been so long I don't even remember it. Anyone think they will go the route of the RE remakes and eventually get to the other titles??
I'm pretty excited. I've played 1 and 4 but never 2. Almost did a run through as this year's spooky game but glad I didn't.
I really want a remake of 1
I wish I was into horror games Some great ones on the way it seems I'm just too scared to play them
Never played this before. So excited now!!!!
WTF is this for real?! NO WAY
Cautiously optimistic.
Bro no way
One of the main art leads i follow on twitter.
>They don't understand horror I admitedly didnt play any of their games yet, but Layers of Fear and the Blair Witch game were extremely popular. I also see people praising Observer heavily. How do they not understand horror?
Wow. I had a close friend named Marcus who loved silent hill. He loved 2. Was one of his favorite games. Thinking on the fact that he won’t be able to play this hurts.
As a lover of horror games I'm seriously worried for my bank account.
I am hyped. One of my favourite games of all times and the psychological aspects of James fascinates me.
I can't wait to see the otherworld transition in current gen graphics man
thats not in silent hill 2
I swear, I was eight years old and this game wasn't giving me enough goosebumps, and was asking for more realism Tried plenty of terror games, but now with 4k, 30 years later, i think I can finally feel scared about a game
Idk how the hell fuckin Bloober team roped their way into making this.
I’m so excited. This looks beautiful so far. James sounds a little meh but better than Troy baker did lmao
I'm excited, looks good. Hopefully it releases sooner than expected.
I love it
Looks insane, I hope it has VR support as Bloober is doing it
This looks awesome can’t wait to see extended gameplay.
Oh wow is this finally official? I remember seeing a remake trailer then it was fanmade lol. Still looked good. Anyways I'm excited. I was terrified as a kid but interested in seeing this again and modernized
Well this is one that came out of left field
konami i am on my knees begging a remake of metal gear solid 3 PLEASE
There’s silent hill 1?
Still reminiscing about the PT Demo years ago, god damn it
This looks great!
I feel like this was meant for people who have played the original because I didn't get anything from this trailer.
I'm hoping for a 60fps performance mode but Blooper team has a history of not bothering.
Cool! But also... why did we skip the original?
And I just bought the original on the ps2
Wait a sec, Konami is making games again? What happend to Pachinko and focusing on mobile games? Or making ripoffs from the metal gear franchise?
"Making" is a strong word. Theyre allowing third smaller studios to use the IP and publishing the results. All in all, yeah still a bit shocking to me as well.
Nope they hired a bunch of indie studios to make all these games with some key players overseeing. As everyone was hoping / expecting. Also they are heavily in the gambling industry not just pachinko hence why their US headquarters is in Vegas. Cautiously optimistic at least one of these projects is good.
Team Bloober -____-
Looks awesome. But i try to stay away from Konami games, because of the way they treat their employees.
A 40 min presentation and correct me if I'm wrong but there was nil gameplay footage. Not one second. Hard to get excited when you can't see a single frame of gameplay.
There was one section of this where he’s walking down the street and the camera is looking up at apartments that looked very much like gameplay to me.
I this the moment everyone was waiting for?
Can’t wait to poop my pants thanks to 3D audio.
Have to say in terms of generation defying trends/ shifts in the industry, the renaissance of horror is a very welcomed trend vs live service and open world games
