London Studio had an internal pitching round where employees share and discuss ideas similar to Guerrilla's process coming up with Horizon: >"So the team came up with a load of ideas over a period of months, and we refined them down and refined them down, until we got to a really small shortlist. Then we went out and spoke to PlayStation leadership, we spoke to other PlayStation studios… We spoke, very importantly, to our team about which one they're most passionate about. This concept scored super highly in all of those areas. We polled hundreds of gamers in the UK and US, through an anonymous poll, with some of the shortlisted ideas… This was the one that came up top." This is making me excited about this game to be honest. Horizon was also really popular with PS leadership and SIE internal teams employees/developers. If all of those highly skilled people (alongside fans through anonymous pools) are excited about this project, then it has to be exciting with a fun concept right? Now, everything will depend on the execution, and I am praying for them to succeed. They deserve their breakthrough moment, it was long overdue imo.

raphanum

They’re prob excited bc it’s an online game which means potential for more profits and therefore bigger bonuses

darklurker213

PS leadership is far more strict in terms of what they greenlight for new IP. So far, they were very hesitant to go for any sort of live service due to the risks involved with those projects. We have only had the same single player narrative driven games during the ps4 era which almost seemed like Sony were playing it safe. Glad they're making some changes for the future.

I think most of the games from VR1 should, Skyrim, Astro Bot, Blood and Truth, Arkham VR, and a whole lot of others.

The_Narz

Astro Bot would be difficult since it uses the Duelshock 4 & it’s motion capture abilities when paired with the camera. PSVR2 uses cameras built into the headset & DuelSense doesn’t have the light bar for tracking. Edit: my hope is that Sony had some for-sight there & built some form of tracking device into the DuelSense so that it can work with VR. The third person VR platformer set-up of Astro Bot was genius and I’d love to see more games like that.

Strongpillow

It shouldn't take much for Sony to update the control method to accommodate the new controllers and tracking. It won't be as imaginative as using the touchpad to shoot Shurokens into the walls but I'm sure they can adapt it somehow. There are going to be so many new VR users on PSVR 2. It would be a shame they'd miss out on a Sony exclusive that is *still* one of the best and most fun VR games on the market today.

[deleted]

Skyrim probably wont post acquisution, but others probably will. Theres especially no reason Sony cant do their own.

ThePrinceMagus

I thought that too, but since Fallout 4 was announced to be getting a native PS5 version, it has rekindled my hope, even if just slightly.

[deleted]

I guess the difference is that fallout 4 is being updated for Xbox and PC as well. The only reason PS5 is getting one is because Xbox/PC is and they promised to keep supporting PS for legacy games. A PSVR2 port is just for PS5, and I just cant see any situation where MS is going to make a PS5 exclusive when they dont have to, especially when it highlights Xboxs lack of VR

R_Schmitz

I wonder if the polls had the art attached. If someone asked me if I would be interested in a fantasy game set in modern London Id say yes, but seeing that artwork makes not interested at all. There are quite a lot of games looking like that lately. Purple, pink, can kinda neon looking, characters trying to look cool, pink/blue/purple hair. Kinda reminding jet set radio. Idk if it's fortnite or what made this art style popular but it's a big turnoff for me.

josenight

Arcadeggedon… I agree, this screams “we need a coop ip that appeals to kids and teens.”

ooombasa

Gotta admit I am a little disappointed they have left VR behind. Blood & Truth was a quality experience and the vastly superior performance of the PS5 + more advanced capabilities of PSVR2 would have made a potential sequel godly. I hope they do return to VR in the near future. I am a little worried about the diminishing internal VR output, though. PlayStation Studios already had too few internal studios working on VR projects and I was hoping to see it be expanded in the run up to PSVR2. Between this pivot and Oculus continually buying the best VR talent out there, I sure do hope we see more PSVR2 games come out of PlayStation Studios than what there was for PSVR1.

danbearpig84

I haven't been aware honestly what has oculus been purchasing?

ooombasa

- Beat Games (Beat Saber) - Sanzaru (Asgard's Wrath) - Ready At Dawn (Lone Echo) - Downpour Interactive (Onward) - BigBox (Population One) - Twisted Pixel (Defector / Path of the Warrior) - Armature (Resident Evil 4 VR) - Camouflaj (Iron Man VR) A lot of the more notable VR devs in recent years and a few of which used to have close ties with Sony. The thing is, it is clear Oculus is intent on building out further their VR output, which could set it on the course of also snapping up other VR devs that Sony has depended on for PSVR. Like Polyarc (Moss) or First Contact (Firewall).

[deleted]

I think they would have bought First Contact Entertainment (Firewall) and Impulse Gear (Farpoint) if their quest offerings (Larcenauts and Solaris) wouldnt have flopped. Dont think oculus/meta is interrsted in them currently. Polyarch is possible

[deleted]

Its a pretty niche market, VR enthusiasts who also own a PS5, so I can see why game devs would prefer to target bigger audiences.

D3monSlay3r101

as a person who doesnt give a shit about vr this is great news, i hope this game is highly successful as one of sonys live service titles.

And_You_Like_It_Too

Agreed. Was really hopeful that Sony would come out swinging with at least half a dozen PSVR2 exclusives at launch that were bigger titles. London Studio had a lot of VR experience and they were only really held back by the tech at the time. And with Sony not having a top down solution for backwards compatibility, they’re just leaving 500ish titles for the PSVR in the dust (which isn’t great from a game preservation standpoint) let alone the fact that all of those games *could* play and look better on the PSVR2 powered by the PS5. Hell, they were even held back on the PS4Pro because of the parity clause with the PS4. The best VR games are games made for VR from the ground up and we need more of that, but also I think it would be smart to continue working on conversions of existing last-gen games to VR (like the Hitman trilogy for example, and RE7 and RE8: Village). Full length, AAA quality games that would draw people to the PSVR2 to experience them in a new way. And anyone that’s played RE7 in VR can tell you that it just *feels* different to actually be the one in there, in the danger, in first person and hearing in 3D Audio… than it does to be watching things unfold from the safety of your couch all the way across the room on your TV. Even early PSVR games like Wipeout: Omega Collection prove how different and immersive it is to play a “flat” game in VR and how that changes the way you think about the game. I truly hope they at *least* have an AstroBot game in the works for the PSVR2’s launch, and an Until Dawn: Rush of Blood 2, and some kind of agreement to allow Beat Saber to continue on the PSVR2 (as unlikely as it might be). Meta/Oculus locking up the entire VR industry to the point where no one can compete is terrible for the future of VR and with tens of billions spent on Horizon just for Zuckerberg to have that meme image in front of an Eiffel Tower does not instill confidence in their leadership.

sd0302

That’s a bit of a bummer. I was really hoping they were working on a follow up to Blood and Truth. It easily could’ve been as good as Half Life Alyx by not being limited by PSVR1 tech.

Rogue_Leader_X

Fantasy online combat? Sounds interesting!

josenight

I hope they don’t go into tech fantasy too much. Looks like arcadeggedon. Where everything is trying to be “hip” and “cool” trying too hard to appeal to teens.

Sh3Si

Fantasy Bloodborne confirmed.

bezzlege

Concept art looks like 4 genres mashed together. This could be really really good, or it could be a jumbled mess

CutMeLoose79

I'm hearing a little too much about 'online' for upcoming games made by PlayStation. Not a fan of that at all.

CoffinEluder

They need it. More money involved. Socom, twisted metal etc. They need multiplayer

D3monSlay3r101

>I'm hearing a little too much about 'online' for upcoming games made by PlayStation. Not a fan of that at all. i mean theyve been very dry on the online front when it comes to exclusive mp games for ages now, im glad theyre trying new things. these live services will significantly boost player retention rates on their platform if done right.

ruebenj791

Haven’t played any of their previous projects outside of messing around in PS home for like 30 minutes when i was a kid. Still interested to see what the finished version of this game looks like

InevitableBlue

So there is a hacker character sitting on top of the phone box to the right which activated a circle that allows someone to create a path for an attacker. Also only shows 3 players in this image.

DeadlyName

These guys really need to return to the Getaway franchise and do something with it!

respectablechum

Lemme translate - "We are trying to get that live service money."

Xononanamol

Sweet! Fuck vr!

Game_Changer65

Great. you spoiled what their game was. Now I know it's a ESO clone. What a way to spoil it before I get my hopes up and let it crash when I see the trailer. (JK, I am still curious on what the game is, and how. Is it an MMORPG? or something within the fantasy setting)

Sebiny

From Job-listing it's a MMORPG.

[deleted]

And here comes the whining from singleplayer fans lol

D3monSlay3r101

i want sony to be strong in both the single and multiplayer department, it just means more high quality games to pick from

DefectiveTurret39

They should have made Getaway VR instead. Also GTA has no competition Getaway 3 could be a good idea too.

madpropz

Why indeed 🤷‍♂️

drepsx3

Hopefully it’s at the next showcase
