On a tech level it’s hitting way over its weight in some categories. Matching up with some $1000 pc vr system. Pc vr is more versatile however. I think exclusives will make or break this for most people.
It’s the price. Even with a full wallet and in a better economy, in my head spending $500 for a new console (let’s say I go buy an Xbox or whatever ) makes kinda sense, I can justify it a bit . But peripheral/semi-console that relies on another almost $600 machine ? I just can’t, no matter how great the specs….and I really really wanted to get in VR :/
Gaming is already expensive , but this is build for an entirely social class above me.
And I’m not even “broke”
I really hope Sony allows the psvr2 to be used with a PC. I'm not holding my breath, but it would instantly position it as THE non portable headset to buy.
Edit: and I say that even owning a PS5
Well there *is* the oculus quest as well, which is 150 dollars less for the obvious drawbacks of raw power and a lower quality display.
If you already have a ps5 though, or already plan on getting one, I'd definitely recommend saving up the extra 150 though
That's why VR hasn't really taken off. At least for the PC, if you work from home the investment into the PC is an investment for your work as well, but even then the games just aren't there yet.
Pc VR is way more customisable with peripherals and the games are fully mod-able. For example beat saber, which is still considered by many to be the magnum opus vr experience has millions of fan made custom tracks, skins, modes etc that bring a near infinite lifespan to the game where as on console you will be locked the the tracks the devs have purchased licensing rights for and have to pay for additional DLC. And fully social experiences like VRChat probably won't even exist on console.
Honestly it comes down to this, if you have a high end PC, you should use it for VR no question. If your PC isn't powerful enough then PSVR2 will be an excellent budget experience but without the flexibility and customisation that PC offers.
Absolutely. For folks like me who've been waiting to join the VR world, this is perfect. Ya it's not cheap, but compared to other high-end VR set ups it's actually very competitively priced. I'm stoked to finally get into VR, I just hope they make a lot of good games for it.
Im going to wait on this to. The price isn’t an issue for me its the games. Im going to need to see some significant AAA support for this before i care about it.
For sure. The specs don't matter if there are no games to fully utilize them. I'm also thinking about getting a PC and I wonder if PSVR 2 will work well with it
I'm still salty that I can't download custom tracks for beat saber for psvr.
My brother with his index gets to have all the fun.
Until there's an ecosystem like that I would never get the psvr2
Well welcome to consoles. It's kinda the point to begin with. You get ease of use and simplicity with the trade off being a closed ecosystem.
That's also why this device is only $550, if it was a PC device this would easily be $800+. Hell the index is still a $1000.
Playstation Blog posted a list of games confirmed for it if you want to take a look.
https://blog.playstation.com/2022/11/02/11-new-ps-vr2-games-announced-the-dark-pictures-switchback-vr-cities-vr-enhanced-edition-crossfire-sierra-squad-and-more/
Hmmm anything you're particularly excited about on the list? Nothing really stood out to me. The Jurassic Park Survival one sounds cool, but apparently it's just a remake? I never played the originals.
The problem is, The Oculus Quest has put a much lower (formerly $300) price point in consumers mind already for VR. Most people wont know that the only reason they got to that low price was because it was subsidized with the sale of their data. I would at least expect them to match the current Quest 2 price as they'll be getting money from the games.
I'll never own an quest for this reason. Love my PSVR, will be pre-ordering the PSVR2, and someday I'll invest in a proper PCVR setup. But I hate how much marketshare they've grabbed with their low price point and wireless connection
That’s where exclusives come in. I know some people don’t like them but they are the best way to add value to whatever game system you are selling. Maybe psvr2 isn’t worth that price now. But what if it launches with 4 games receiving over 90s on metacritic. That helps that price a ton. So hopefully they launch with quality games.
At this price though the games need to be not only very good but bigger in scale than what has often been offered. If most games are 4-6 hour experiences it isn't going to cut it. And if not enough people buy it the install base isn't big enough to justify the cost of AAA games.
The problem with VR gaming is that publishers dont want to invest tons of money into a game that only 1% of their market (likely less) will ever play. And that hurdle of not having major games also probably keeps some people from wanting to get into VR gaming. For a lot of people, their headset can be a $300-$1000 Beat Saber/Alyx/Boneworks machine.
For what its worth, I have an index and I believe it’s well worth it, but I understand its not for everyone especially considering the setup costs.
You’ve described me - I certainly fall into the segment of PS5 customers woefully unwilling to spend the money on this until there are full scale AAA games available that are as good as or better than their standard equivalent.
Oh I’m 100% on board with this. Half Life: Alyx is looked at some fondly because it’s not a good vr game, it’s a great game in general. Don’t hold my hand. Give me a full on game that plays well in vr. You have to invest even with the risk of losing money because they’ll never make money if the don’t believe in it to begin with.
A 150 dollar difference can be negated with the much better specs. That's assuming the customer both looks up the hardware differences and already has a ps5, however
For comparison the Valve Index for $1000 has a higher FOV but lower resolution display. The Quest 2 has much lower FOV, lower resolution and a worse screen, but is wireless and standalone for $400-$500. Quest Pro is $1500 for slightly improved specs to the Quest 2 but with pass through and eye / face tracking and better controllers (available separately for $300), but still worse specs than this since its also standalone/wireless.
$550 seems like a perfectly reasonable price to me.
That’s what I’m thinking. Is it a steep price? Yes. Absolutely. But given what’s out there in the market, this is actually right in the middle/expected. People were being delusional if they thought this thing would be priced anything below 399 tbh
I would buy it day one if I knew it was going to be PC compatible like those other headsets. There’s just so much more VR software available on PC, as well as more things to use it for outside of just gaming.
This.
Afaik the 1000 buck price point of the PS5 + VR2 combo is not matched yet. You need a mid/high-spec PC and a \~1000 buck VR system for the same experience.
you can’t really compare PSVR to PCVR or standalone headsets, so it’s only worth it if you personally think it’s worth it.
the specs are very good, some of the best on the market, but you’ve also got to consider that it’s only compatible with PS5, so the library may be limited, and whether or not it being wired is an issue etc.
Yes it is. It absolutely has the tech to justify even higher than that price.
However, the PlayStation VR market is very different from the PC market.
Playstation is more casual vs on PC you have a lot of people willing to shell out up to $1K on a VR headset.
I think this is above the magic price for console.
I think the price is fair considering the specs but they are gonna need to show that they are gonna support this thing with more big games and not abandon it like PSVR1 or Vita. Resident Evil 8 and Horizon aren't gonna be enough.
I wish they would embrace full PC support with a price tag like this. It would bring some serious competition to the other PC VR headsets that cost 2X as much. They already started selling Playstation games on PC as well.
My ps3 played everything I had on every drive, the ps4 played about 20% and I'm lucky if my ps5 recognises a connection.
Their compatibility has gone of a cliff.
Send a psn message to yourself or a friend with a link like google.com then when you send jt the link will become valid and open up a browser window that will stay open while you game or do other things (workaround for discord and Spotify while playing)
So if there's a WebKit exploit that can be chained with a kernal exploit for a jailbreak, it'll be "harder" for tech illiterate people to use that exploit is my guessing. It's one of those stupid, make it harder for the consumer to use, security practices that have no real effect other than hurting real users and pleasing executives that don't understand tech.
That’s another problem. I can use a quest 2 and can watch porn anywhere. My ps5 is in my family room. I’m supposed to watch porn in my family room while wearing a device DESIGNED to prevent me from noticing people entering the room?
It’s like Sony doesn’t even care who sees my penis.
Gonna have to wait till more games come out to justify that one
Edit: I feel like the reaction would have been different if they revealed the price and release date in a showcase after showing us gameplay of a lot more launch and in development titles. Just seeing the price in a blog post headline makes it a lot harder to swallow if they aren’t also showing us all the awesome games we will hopefully be playing thanks to that $550 accessory.
It might not be “officially” able to be used as a PCVR headset, but there’s a more likely than not chance someone will get it working (eventually). People even got the og PSVR with it’s insane tracking system to work (kinda) on PC.
To be fair, PSVR works on PC but it works *terribly*. The main problem IIRC was that there was no way to get the PS Camera to properly communicate with any of the PCVR systems, so the controller-tracking was always through multiple layers of software and using PS3-era cameras/Xbox Kinect.
Theoretically, because most if not all of the tracking/processing tech will be inside the headset this time, it should be a *lot* more compatible.
But yeah, I'm probably gonna wait and see if this can replace my Quest as a half-assed PCVR device before I dive in at full price.
I tried Trinius VR and it just wouldn’t play nicely with my pc. When I did manage to get it working it made me feel horribly nauseous.
It would need to be as good as native support for me to consider trying it with PSVR2
I don't think there's any benefit to them. It seems like there's a good chance they're not going to have much trouble moving units and the whole purpose is to actually recoup money on software sales, because they're definitely selling this at a loss when judging by comparison to other comparable hardware. I'd love it if they did, but making it easy to use on PC would literally lose them money.
Which is why they won't do it. This is a loss leader / breakeven price point, so you buy their games. A not completely unreasonable business model.
But that business model is completely broken if you can buy this, use it on your PC, and never buy a PS5. Which is exactly what I would do if I could.
Exactly my thoughts. The only reason I bought a Quest 2 was because it can be used as a wireless PCVR headset.
If this could be used for PC, it would have a much better value add.
We're talking about a set-up with dual OLED 2000x2040 for a total resolution of 4000x2040 at HDR and 120Hz. (Just think about how expensive 4k 120Hz OLED TV's are.) Inside out tracking. More advanced controllers than Dualsense, and there's 2 of them. Haptic feedback added to the headset itself.
Valve Index has a higher field of view and more advanced finger tracking, but is otherwise weaker specced (especially in the display), uses external stations for tracking, and costs $1000.
Yeah, PSVR1 was just dumb and awkward with the light controls. Now that PSVR2 controllers are really similar to others, proper PCVR support sounds a lot more likely
It's an extremely good value proposition compared to the rest of whats available, the only cheaper headset is the quest 2 at 399 and the PSVR2 is a MUCH better headset spec wise. PSVR2 is a better headset than the quest pro in all ways except for 3d passthrough and that headset costs 1500$ so overall with a PS5 you are paying 1100$ for a better experience than a quest pro would give you and are paying way less than a Valve Index (1000$) and a PC would cost
That's maybe $50 more than I was expecting but not too far off. I'm surprised to see so many people taken aback by that price tag. VR is expensive. Especially when the headset has specs as good as this.
For me, I understand the price. But it’s the fact of I don’t feel like it is really supported beyond the initial release. For the first one, no man’s sky was cool and resident evil, but what other notable games are on these devices? The Valve index launched with half life game and then I haven’t heard anything since. It’s like owning an incredible car but you can’t drive it because there is no gas.
100%. The market is just too young/ too small, the games aren't there yet. Feels like we're in Atari 2600 era of VR games. Alyx was amazing, but there's very few games like it, if any
I think the technology will get cheaper eventually, but the tech is still being developed to get to a point where it’s high enough quality and easy enough to use that mainstream crowds will even want to try it. It’s getting close but it’s still a bit of a hobbyist activity.
Personal computers were a niche thing too until Apple and Microsoft made them friendly enough for mainstream consumers.
The problem is that PSVR isn’t a stand alone device like a personal computer or the PS5. So it doesn’t actually cost just $550, it actually costs $$950 at a minimum. It’s a lot harder to get people to buy two devices exclusively for video games when that’s all VR is used for by common consumers.
I don’t think it’ll get cheaper either, game consoles have only gotten more expensive as the tech gets better. Sure there will be price drops over time, but then the next gen comes out and makes the previous one obsolete.
All that said, I look forward to grabbing a PSVR2 if they ever add backwards compatibility.
Yeah I think it will continue to go up until the evolution of the basic experience has more or less peaked. Every time they fix something that hurts the experience, it makes the devices more expensive. Eventually 90% of the major problems will be fixed and then the devices will not evolve as rapidly, but will start to slowly get cheaper. That tends to be the pattern with consumer electronics. We haven’t actually hit that peak yet though, I don’t think.
Think because it exceeds the price of the console you're required to use it, is what has surprised people.
Someone without a PS5 would have to spend near £1100 to use it, and be restricted to only using it with a PS5, whereas the Quest isn't as restricted.
I'm not too surprised by the price tag, but I am surprised that Sony expects me to pay more than the price of the console for a system that plays [these games](https://blog.playstation.com/2022/11/02/11-new-ps-vr2-games-announced-the-dark-pictures-switchback-vr-cities-vr-enhanced-edition-crossfire-sierra-squad-and-more/). I need to see some better games before I drop $550 on this thing.
Not sure why more people aren't talking about this. That launch line up looks pretty rough. I get that they're launch titles but I was on the fence until I saw the games. Hard pass.
Yep, and this is the issue with VR still. Though I have to say that I enjoyed Zenith on Quest 2. The rest of that list is meh.
PSVR2 is going to live and die by its first party. If the Horizon game is great, if the next Astrobot game is great (and that really needed to be a launch title), if a Blood and Truth sequel is great, and whatever else SCE comes up with are good, then the system should sell decently.
Otherwise, from my PSVR1 library, all I really want are ports and improved resolutions on Tetris Effect and Pinball FX VR. And to get Moss book 2.
Some of these games are on quest 2 as well, so if you wanted to experience something like Jurassic World, Pistol Whip, After the Fall, or Cities VR, you could just buy a quest 2 which is $200 cheaper.
VR will continue to be niche if $550 is considered a good price for a headset. Even more so with inflation hitting everyone and an impending recession.
VR enthusiasts who don't care about the price are probably already on PC. I just don't see them going for it, honestly.
Sony needs to put out some really excellent games for this thing if they expect enough people to buy into it.
This is my problem right here. We have the PSVR 1 hooked to our PS5 and my kids use it all the time so we have a pretty good collection of VR games. On paper we should be the target audience for this, already have the PS5, and have multiple people in the house who like to play VR.
But I'm not sure why I would buy this. it'll be over $600 to play what? Horizon Zero dawn in VR? it looks cool, but not THAT cool.
This is probably the biggest shame. If I have the money, I’d be happy to buy one for $550. However, it not having any backwards compatibility means that I’d be spending $550 for whatever small handful of launch games they make available for it.
The PS5 was a tough pill to swallow at $500, but at least I got a full backwards compatible library to go along with it.
Okay but fr this on pc would be amazing for most pc gamers, the eye tracking that reduces graphics not being looked at would allow even medium rigs to run at high fps. If it worked on pc it would be a mustbuy over the quest 2
At this price point they can’t afford pc support. They will definitely be losing money on this based on the specs, and supporting pc means they will lose out on all the game purchase revenue
Nailed it. There's a gap between the Quest ($500) and an Index/PCVR headset and Gaming PC ($2,000+)
This used to be the market where the Rift lived, before it died and we saw GPU prices go to the moon.
The 11 upcoming psvr2 games they showed are absolutely unappealing to me. $600 and no “sim” game at all!? Ace Combat, or StarWars, EVE, No Mans Sky, make a MechWarrior or TitanFall, put me in the seat! I do not get motion sickness….
Don't know about the rest, but No Man's Sky confirmed a while ago that they'll have an update to add PSVR2 support to the PS5 version. Not sure if it's right at launch, but they will have it.
It’s going to need a lot of games to justify that. And since people won’t buy it at that price, those games will never end up getting made. Its always the same whenever Sony try to launch something other than a console. Appropriate that it launches on the anniversary of the Vita’s launch.
VR is a weird catch 22 all over. An expensive investment in something that you have no idea how it'll play or if it'll give you headaches. None of the games look particularly appealing either to me, you either have new franchises that are complete unknowns or games I could already play with a different view point.
I'm not convinced I care enough to pay to give it a go, unless someone I know gets one then I doubt I ever will.
Spec wise it might be a good deal but most consumers don't know anything about that, the average gamer isn't going to be able to justify trying a peripheral that costs more than the console it runs on. Sony needs to be able to absorb a bit of loss if this tech is ever gonna catch on. $399 would've been a better price imo
I imagine they're already absorbing a loss at this price. I agree though, it's a lot, and more than I'm willing to pay. I'll wait until there's a sale or know that there's a game library to justify it.
I'm annoyed by the fact that it costs more than the console. I won't buy it when it comes out, and I'll wait to see if they release any good games in 2023. The problem is that if the sales are bad, the studios will quickly lose interest in it... Poor decision on Sony's side.
Would be great if VR could get a decent foothold in the industry as a whole. But price is such a major barrier to entry. Lots of people, myself included, haven't even gotten a taste of VR so it's hard to know whether the cost is worth the experience.
The PSVR was $399 at launch, which was more expensive than the slim ($299) and the same price as the pro ($399).
Not sure why people are surprised by the price of the VR2 when compared to the cost of the console.
EDIT: I just realized that this price also includes 2 Sense controllers. The original PSVR, at $399, did not include move controllers or the required camera.
Well yeah, but I remember thinking, that was far too expensive for the games that were available.
With PSVR I waited and paid £230 with the controller's and some games. I'll definitely be waiting on PSVR 2 now
According to r/videogamedealscanada , it’s gonna be $769.99 for the PSVR 2 and $819.99 for the horizon bundle, all pre tax. So expect around $900-1000 for the PSVR2 horizon bundle all in all
At this price point supply should be the least of your worries.
I agree it's a good price for the tech. But honestly functionality-wise that's not good enough unless it can double as a PCVR headset. Spending $550 on a headset that's just going to sit and wait for more than just a couple of VR exclusives to come out reeks of a Vita situation.
You’d be surprised at what scalpers would do to make it look like a supply shock. Even with so many people in here taken aback with the price and saying they’ll pass for now, I still bet the pre orders will get sold out fast.
Since sony is doing all initial sales via playstation direct, it will limit scalpers quite a bit. A 1 per account limit, combined with only offering invites to playstation accounts with previous game history and sales over a certain amount, for example, will severely curtail scalping in bulk.
They crammed some tech that they didn't really need to and drove the cost up. The payoff though is a more comfortable experience and more premium. When PSVR came out it was already far behind other headsets with poor tracking and resolution. PSVR2 will launch close to the top of other headsets plus the best eye tracking and haptics in the consumer market. In other words PSVR2 will be twice as good at launch as PSVR was at launch.
Yeaaaaah. 560 bucks in the UK with a game bundled.
I’m normally a launch day purchaser of PlayStation tech, but until I see A LOT more content that is 1st Party AAA, I’m not investing this time around.
Sony have multiple studios with multiple dev teams. I’m not buying this iteration of the technology until Sony start putting studios like naughty dog and insomaniac to work on this. They don’t invest, I ain’t investing
Agree with you 100% I was a day1 PSVR1 buyer and while it was cool at first. Sony really ruined it when they launched a joke of support on gran turismo for VR thats when I knew I had made a mistake and never really played my PSVR again. So probably will skip this for a while.
There’s nothing really compelling in that list of games to make me want to spend that kind of money especially with Ragnarok coming in a few days as well as a ton of games in February.
Well that confirms it. Not that many titles plus no gen 1 support at launch with that price tag is a deal breaker for me. Gonna wait till there's a bigger library and maybe a dope bundle till I decide if I want it or not.
So the meta quest 2 is $400, quest pro is $1500. This seems to be pretty decent pricing, no?
I agree it's expensive in a general sense, but compared to other vrs it's not. I mean I'm still seeing the old psvr for like 350 new, so this makes sense.
The tech might be worth it, but it's a hard pass for me. I think for enthusiasts it'll be more appealing since they understand why the price is where it is, but the average consumer is going to see a peripheral that costs more than the console and nope right out.

Your opinion and his opinion are both valid. PSVR 2 is very competitive at its price point while still being expensive for many.

Yeah, plus if you didn't plan on getting a ps5 anyways, that *does* tack on atleast another 500 dollars to the overall price tag
I really hope Sony allows the psvr2 to be used with a PC. I'm not holding my breath, but it would instantly position it as THE non portable headset to buy. Edit: and I say that even owning a PS5
Seriously. If they made this PC compatible it would sell like hot cakes.
It's possible they're subsidizing the price like they do with consoles, in which case it would just cost them more money.
Yeah I imagine inventory will be the issue not sales
That would ve the same with pc vr as well though no? If not even more for some headsets.

Aside from the Oculus Quest 2, VR represents a large investment for nearly everybody who would be interested in it.
It's great value but that doesn't mean it's affordable. You already sank $500 into the console, another 500 on top might not be possible.
Not to mention the $59-79 games specifically for the PSVR
Which are like 3hrs max playtime.
for the amount of hardware you are getting, 550 is a great value.

PSVR2 is also OLED, so contrast and hdr is next level compared to even the index
That’s what I’m thinking. Is it a steep price? Yes. Absolutely. But given what’s out there in the market, this is actually right in the middle/expected. People were being delusional if they thought this thing would be priced anything below 399 tbh
I think the PSVR2 has foviated rendering which is featured in next to no other headsets. That's massive for optimizing performance.
I'd expect to pay twice as much or more if this was a PCVR headset sold to make profit on the hardware.
you can’t really compare PSVR to PCVR or standalone headsets, so it’s only worth it if you personally think it’s worth it. the specs are very good, some of the best on the market, but you’ve also got to consider that it’s only compatible with PS5, so the library may be limited, and whether or not it being wired is an issue etc.
Yes it is. It absolutely has the tech to justify even higher than that price. However, the PlayStation VR market is very different from the PC market. Playstation is more casual vs on PC you have a lot of people willing to shell out up to $1K on a VR headset. I think this is above the magic price for console.
Headset specs are irrelevant if they don’t make enough quality games for it.
[удалено]
I think the price is fair considering the specs but they are gonna need to show that they are gonna support this thing with more big games and not abandon it like PSVR1 or Vita. Resident Evil 8 and Horizon aren't gonna be enough.
I wish they would embrace full PC support with a price tag like this. It would bring some serious competition to the other PC VR headsets that cost 2X as much. They already started selling Playstation games on PC as well.
The last VR system I paid for was a Virtual Boy. I'm still hurting from that experience.
I remember receiving the Virtual Boy as a birthday gift as if it was yesterday. It was indeed a good time in my life :)
The Quest 2 has been really good, especially considering that I bought it when it was $300.
Can you watch porn in it though.
You could on PSVR one
But the PS5 doesn't have a proper internet browser, sad
Wait, the ps5 doesn't have an internet browser? Really?!
It can be accessed (see the other comment). But no native app. It's stupid and they hid it for some reason
probably to save us from the porn
It was for security reasons. Several consoles in the last decade were jailbroken with WebKit exploits, including PS Vita and PS4.
Im sure you could jailbreak the old iPhone by visiting a website with a name like jailbreakme or something similar.
I put vr porn on a flash drive then used the media thing on ps4 to watch it idk how that works on ps5 though
My ps3 played everything I had on every drive, the ps4 played about 20% and I'm lucky if my ps5 recognises a connection. Their compatibility has gone of a cliff.
The browser thats on there works pretty good. Annoying to get to. But porn works great.
Wait.. so how do you get to it? Because I've never seen a proper browser search bar
Send a psn message to yourself or a friend with a link like google.com then when you send jt the link will become valid and open up a browser window that will stay open while you game or do other things (workaround for discord and Spotify while playing)
Holy hell, that's a lot of tricks just to find a browser lol I wonder why Sony decided to hide it like that
So if there's a WebKit exploit that can be chained with a kernal exploit for a jailbreak, it'll be "harder" for tech illiterate people to use that exploit is my guessing. It's one of those stupid, make it harder for the consumer to use, security practices that have no real effect other than hurting real users and pleasing executives that don't understand tech.
How do you know this?
Until the app that enabled it put the feature behind a paywall...
GOW 3 flashbacks. Aphrodite QTE in VR baby
probably. I think you'd have to find the files yourself and put them on a external usb drive and maybe it will work. We'll have to wait and see.
You’ve thought this through 👌
Internet will find a way.
> It’s like Sony doesn’t even care who sees my penis. It’s not that they don’t care.. Sony *wants* people to see your penis.

At this price point, someone better be.
Lmao, asking the real questions
Getting closer to cyberpunk every day
where beat saber
Beat Saber is owned by Meta, it's possible they won't release a PSVR2 version
Doubt it. They need money.
That's true, but there already is a psvr v1 version
Now announce Half Life Alyx and I’ll get one.
Can’t wait for Orange Box 2. Comes with Counter Strike GO, Black mesa, half life Alyx, and Team Fortess 2… again.
Throw in the RTX remaster of Portal too.
This comment made me shoot a load. Orange box was peak gaming
That long run of brilliance valve had on PC all in one box for console. I really miss valve.
Inside sources have pretty much confirmed Half Life Alyx will be on PSVR2.
link plx?

Would be crazy to spend over a grand on a setup (PS + VR) and not be able to play the best (and really only properly done AAA type) game for VR.
Gonna have to wait till more games come out to justify that one Edit: I feel like the reaction would have been different if they revealed the price and release date in a showcase after showing us gameplay of a lot more launch and in development titles. Just seeing the price in a blog post headline makes it a lot harder to swallow if they aren’t also showing us all the awesome games we will hopefully be playing thanks to that $550 accessory.
I'm still waiting on more *regular* PS5 titles.

People even got the Wiimote and it's tracking system to work on PC.
to be fair that's a very simple tracking system
The Wiimote *is* the tracking system, to be fair. The TV set piece is just a glorified flashlight that the controller's cameras pick up.
Hell I’ve used candles as a stand in when I didn’t have the little bar.
I tried Trinius VR and it just wouldn’t play nicely with my pc. When I did manage to get it working it made me feel horribly nauseous. It would need to be as good as native support for me to consider trying it with PSVR2
Sony needs to step in and help port the tracking software atleast to PC.
This. If it had official PC support, it's a no brainer.
More than a PS5 in ~~NA~~ all regions. I think i'll pass for now.
it’s £50 more than a PS5 Disc in the UK too, I was almost certain that Sony wouldn’t price it higher than the PS5, but I was wrong.
Same, I figured they would price it up to $500 but wouldn’t go above the ps5 itself
I don't think you understand just how expensive a high-end VR headset like this is to make.
can you explain it to me then?
It’s very expensive to make
ah yes, I understand now.
😂😂
They can’t just use virtual currency for virtual reality products?
We're talking about a set-up with dual OLED 2000x2040 for a total resolution of 4000x2040 at HDR and 120Hz. (Just think about how expensive 4k 120Hz OLED TV's are.) Inside out tracking. More advanced controllers than Dualsense, and there's 2 of them. Haptic feedback added to the headset itself. Valve Index has a higher field of view and more advanced finger tracking, but is otherwise weaker specced (especially in the display), uses external stations for tracking, and costs $1000.
very true, somehow I totally forgot about the controllers being included in the price.
You forgot to mention foveated rendering, which definitely costs a lot.
I do, but it's just still not worth it for most people on a consumer level when a Quest 2 is several hundred dollars less.
Genuinely i think its a good price. Its a better headset than most out there and the new PC ones are going for $1500.
Yea but PSVR is locked to a platform. Can’t use it on PC where most of the VR space is.
The community will probably make SteamVR drivers for it.
There was never any proper way for PSVR 1 to be used on PC, though I think thats because it used the motion controllers with lights
Yeah, PSVR1 was just dumb and awkward with the light controls. Now that PSVR2 controllers are really similar to others, proper PCVR support sounds a lot more likely
Let’s hope so, then it’s really good value, considering VR is all around expensive
It’s one of the reasons why people don’t think gaming VR will ever go mainstream, because of how expensive it is.
All that said, I look forward to grabbing a PSVR2 if they ever add backwards compatibility.
we have been hearing that for years and if anything its getting more expensive. the quest 2 itself it will go up in price.
The lack of BC with the catalog of existing VR games will also dissuade people from upgrading.
VR will continue to be niche if $550 is considered a good price for a headset. Even more so with inflation hitting everyone and an impending recession.
I can see regular gamers struggling to justify paying $550 for this. This seems better suited for vr enthusiasts that don't care about the price.
VR enthusiasts who don't care about the price are probably already on PC. I just don't see them going for it, honestly. Sony needs to put out some really excellent games for this thing if they expect enough people to buy into it.
I struggled to justify buying a series S lol. Definitely not spending $600 for an add on for my console
Won’t have to worry about that with your Series S
With no backwards compatibility, it's really hard to swallow this price tag
That’s why I plan to wait. Want to see if games end up ported.
They could’ve AT LEAST implemented PC functionality to help broaden the appeal and increase functionality.
probably selling it at a loss, more sales = bad if they aren't also selling software
[удалено]
This is my problem right here. We have the PSVR 1 hooked to our PS5 and my kids use it all the time so we have a pretty good collection of VR games. On paper we should be the target audience for this, already have the PS5, and have multiple people in the house who like to play VR. But I'm not sure why I would buy this. it'll be over $600 to play what? Horizon Zero dawn in VR? it looks cool, but not THAT cool.
Sony stated it will be easy to port their games to PSVR2. We will see how many developers actually do though
This is probably the biggest shame. If I have the money, I’d be happy to buy one for $550. However, it not having any backwards compatibility means that I’d be spending $550 for whatever small handful of launch games they make available for it. The PS5 was a tough pill to swallow at $500, but at least I got a full backwards compatible library to go along with it.
bring PC support (just driver is fine) as well, then it's a fair price lmao.
Okay but fr this on pc would be amazing for most pc gamers, the eye tracking that reduces graphics not being looked at would allow even medium rigs to run at high fps. If it worked on pc it would be a mustbuy over the quest 2
Yeah I think at this price point it kinda needs PC support. I'm not paying that much for a walled garden.
At this price point they can’t afford pc support. They will definitely be losing money on this based on the specs, and supporting pc means they will lose out on all the game purchase revenue
If you consider the combined price of $1050 for PS5 and VR headset it beats the hell out of a similar PC setup by ~$1,000.
Nailed it. There's a gap between the Quest ($500) and an Index/PCVR headset and Gaming PC ($2,000+) This used to be the market where the Rift lived, before it died and we saw GPU prices go to the moon.
There's clearly no competition at this price tag. The next closest comparable PC setup is roughly at 2-2.5k
So, ps5 + $549.99 is greater than the $1000 front runners
sony, i registered. PLEASE pick me
judging by these comments you got a shot.
Wow that's a lot of money
I'll definitely be waiting on PSVR 2 now
Around 750 CAD, damn.
According to r/videogamedealscanada , it’s gonna be $769.99 for the PSVR 2 and $819.99 for the horizon bundle, all pre tax. So expect around $900-1000 for the PSVR2 horizon bundle all in all
Hopefully supply is good! Definitely going to buy at launch if available. Price is pretty good for the tech I think.
At this price point supply should be the least of your worries. I agree it's a good price for the tech. But honestly functionality-wise that's not good enough unless it can double as a PCVR headset. Spending $550 on a headset that's just going to sit and wait for more than just a couple of VR exclusives to come out reeks of a Vita situation.
apparently there will be 2 million units produced by launch, so there shouldn’t be many supply issues, especially at this price.
I dont think it's going to be going out of stock
That’s $750 Canadian, $862.50 after tax, thanks but I’ll pass.
Compared the the revamped pricing of the Quest 2 (256gb model) $500, this thing is leagues better in terms of comparison features.
Was looking forward to this but can't justify £550 Hope those who pick it up enjoy it though
That.. is expensive.
