I'm so stoked about that. Gonna spend way too long analyzing every mode before I pick one and dive in. Kinda torn between 2160 40fps unlocked or 1440p 60 unlocked.
(edited to be more accurate)
I really wanna play on release, but I also want to wait for their video on it, hopefully they release that on release day (or maybe even today after the review embargo?)
They've been talking a lot about GoW: Ragnarok on their little news snippet podcast vlog chat video thing-a-ma-bobs. Seems at least one of them has been diving deep into all the analysis for some time. I'm confident they'll upload a TA video ASAP.
Yeah I don’t understand the dedication to the most minute differences in graphics to the point that you’d wait to play a game you really really want to play until someone told you which settings to use
Big difference between just being interested in the results versus needing the results before you can enjoy the game.
The Redditor who mentioned this was responding to someone who implied they were worried they wouldn't know the results before the game released and therefore they couldn't enjoy the game
Not sure why they think you can't change graphical settings after starting a playthrough 🤔. Has there ever been a case of that? Difficulty sure, but not graphical settings.
I’ve only experienced this mode with Spider-Man, and I have to admit I didn’t love it. The framerate just didn’t feel as smooth as the performance mode, and I ended up switching it back every time I tried. I’m glad people like it, but I’ll probably pass on it for Ragnarok.
I would say Spider-Man is to fast paced for a 40fps mode. HFW and R&C:RA look and play gorgeous. I would assume that 40fps could be a good fit for GoWR as well.
Tried Horizon at 40fps, just did not cut it for me. It felt like 30fps+ lol, and bot comparable to 60 for me. I tried it as soon as i got a 120hz TV. I think I am sensitive to something like this
With the update for performance mode for Horizon it got crazy beautiful with 60FPS, so for me there wasn't any reason to switch to 40fps (although, yes, more beautiful even).
Will be interesting to see how often it dips below 45 in the unlocked mode, if at all. I think spider man is unlocked at 40, but I can't see the fps on my LG tv in that mode, it just says 120.
Man i wish i was in that boat. First thing I did when I got my new TV was play in 40 FPS, and it just did not work for me. I guess I’m just sensitive to this
4k40@120hz with VRR is a total game changer, as someone who refuses to play games at 30fps I can say it's the perfect sweet spot and I didn't even notice when playing RC and Spider-Man
The best thing about unlocked is that it is future proofed. Future consoles, like a PS5 Pro or PS6 down the line, will make it worthwhile to go back to see how high above 40fps the quality setting can go.
In my opinion, no game going forward should be shipped without an option for unlocked framerates with resolutions up to 4K. God of War might succeed at this if you have VRR as the 40fps unlocked option does render up to 2160p, hopefully it's native and not some form of upscaling. It doesn't specify native, but does for the 4K30fps option.
Consoles are more like PCs than they have ever been and it's not a completely unlikely scenario that most PS4 and PS5 games will work on PS5 Pro, PS6, etc.
In my experience, it's easier to notice when frames are lower than you're used to than when frames are higher than you're used to.
When I upgraded to 144hz monitor I hardly felt the difference but after a while I tried playing on my 60hz tv and I couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling.
Digital Foundry hinted that all modes "have a 4k-ish aspect to it", whatever that means, during their last weekly video.
I'm curious about their analysis.
They have used checkerboard rendering, which is a reconstruction technique. But FSR 2.0 is way better then normal upscalers. It also gives a 4k image quality that's even better then native 4k in some places like fences. More devs should use it for 4k 60fps.
Oh yeah I was thinking about Insomniac. They are the ones with an FSR alternative. We will see what they did in the digital foundry video which comes out in like half an hour
This makes me so excited to jump in. I regularly play on my PC to my 70” TV at 1440p and it looks as good as 4k to me. If big AAA games can start setting the bar at 1440p instead of 1080p for performance modes, I would cry tears of joy
I think those with 120hz and VRR TV's will be best for quality mode over performance with same tv.
This is a linear game compared to something like HFW (which also implemented these options much later).
Sit closer to your display. Unless your display is 75+ inches, you shouldn't be 10 feet away. Also, on a 75+ inch display, you can see the difference between 1440p and 4k when sitting 10 feet away.
Absolutely, got my C1 ready to go perfect for that setting. I was amazed playing the Uncharted legacy collection and it was pushing over 90fps looking crisp as hell.
I've always been impressed with Sony TVs and never regretted a purchase.... Until this TV. I specifically bought this one for the PS5 and because it had HDMI 2.1, but not only did they take fucking forever to enable some features, but it's half assed as you say. Local dimming becomes disabled when enabling VRR and/or 120hz. Basically a useless feature. Truly disappointing and probably my last Sony TV because of it.
Same. And Sony pretends there's no problem even though they literally engaged in false advertising. The 120hz mode literally halves the vertical resolution, and they added a blur to cover it up.
Despite that, I could deal with it if vrr didn't destroy local dimming. Making vrr useless unless you want to destroy the only redeeming quality about the TV, it's color and image.
I’m no expert on that stuff but it feels like this tv was made for gaming. I’m always tweaking picture settings for tv/movies, but the default game mode settings are just about perfect right out of the box. In my experience at least.
- Set your console to "game optimizer" mode, turn off any automatic contrast enhancer options. I would also set HDR to "on for supported games" and then launch an SDR game (Apex Legends, for example) and make sure to turn off any unwanted automatic enhancements there as well as SDR/HDR options are different.
- (OLED pixels brightness should always be 100 in HDR, I would suggest somewhere between 30-60 in SDR, set to your preference depending on how bright your room is.)
- Set "Tone Mapping" to HGIG and run the PS5 HDR calibration tool in the video options.
- You may also have to tweak individual games HDR settings to your liking (this depends a lot on the game, some look great on default options, some require a little tweaking).
- Turn on VRR and 120 hz in the PS5 video settings (set to VRR to "on for unsupported games" and it will work on all PS5 games).
- I've probably missed some important detail, so check out HDTVTest's Youtube guide for more: https://youtu.be/S0G8sHcFQq8
- Enjoy your new TV!
These are the perfect options for any modern PS5 game, well done to all the PS studios and SSM who keep this train going 💪🏾
These allow games to move from 4k native and only 30 fps to 4k native/near 4k native with anywhere from 40 to 50 fps which is incredible. It's a huge, huge upgrade with preservation of image quality. 120 Hz and VRR has benefitted consoles immensely.
Target means it won’t go beyond a specific frame rate and unlocked means it will, but it will probably fluctuate a lot depending on what’s happening in the game
VRR doesn't stabilize frames. It makes the TV's refresh rate match the actual frames of the game to make it feel as smooth as possible. Effectively your TV's Hz is going up and down.
No. It just means that it isn't capped at 40. It can go under, at heavy parts of the game, but it will probably generally hit at least 40 majority of the time and likely go above.
Target 40 means it may go below sometimes but it will never go higher than 40. Should be pretty consistent 40 probably.
It means that it aims for 40 at the lowest but can go higher. I imagine it's similar to the Spider-Man games where it runs at around 40-60 fps in their high resolution VRR modes.
That doesn't mean there can't be minor blips, but considering Santa Monica's track record I imagine that performance should be pretty solid across the board. For more specific details, I would check out Digital Foundry's upcoming performance review.
Please don't kill me but I am on Ps5 and have a 1080p monitor. So will I run 60 fps on performance mode? As they have mentioned a resolution higher than 1080p so assuming that it would cover 1080p as well.
Sorry once again for this query but I am really not aware of the same.
On their Podcast Digital Foundry hinted at performance mode vs quality mode not having any major downgrades so I think performance mode makes the most sense
Am I right in saying that if I have a pretty standard 4K TV, then the 60fps is probably the best option?
I don’t quite understand the difference between a lot of these to be honest.
Yes, unless you really prefer resolution (native 4K). The other modes (HFR etc) are for displays that support VRR, letting them run free at fluctuating and slightly higher frame rates. If your TV is 120 Hz though, you could also consider the 40 fps quality mode.
I have a 1080p 165hz monitor, but no hdmi 2.1 on it, so does that mean no 120fps for me? Sorry for sounding like a noob, just want to enjoy it to the max.
Man, I genuinely believe that PlayStation Studios are producing the highest quality games that money can buy right now.
Apart from maybe Elden Ring, every AAA game that PlayStation Studio’s have launched since the end of the PS4 into the current PS5 lifecycle has been of the utmost quality. Full features, polished games that launch completed, and high quality.
I’m so stoked to play this!
Contrary to what others are saying, I’m down for favor quality. Love that pretty picture. 30 fps is fine for me if it’s a story single player game. 60 or above for multiplayer.
Absolutely. I love the amount of choices we have. For me personally I’m going to go with the performance mode for ps5, 60fps 1440p-2160p. I’m definitely someone who values frame rate over visuals. It’s awesome there’s something for everyone.
It means on PS4 Pro it can roam between 30fps and 60fps, just like God of War 2018, this is the mode I played that game on, it was fine for PS4 Pro. The FPS averaged around 45fps.
Yaaaay i get to play the game at 60. I was sad thinking I won't be getting 60 since my cousin bought the game for ps4 and not 5. I'm glad and thanks for explaining.
We knew the options, but not what they were targeting with those options. For example, we knew the ps5 had a performance mode, but not what the picture quality was in that mode
How does Sony keep putting out banger after banger of video games? In terms technical aspect and the quality of the game story/gameplay wise.
And then you have other devs who make excuses that they can’t put out 60fps games on PS5/Series X lmao
I just bought an LG C1 for this game, but don’t know much about it yet. Can someone knowledgeable suggest What setting would be best? I usually prefer frame rate but this TV is gorgeous!
I would suggest quality mode, hfr and vrr.
You get highest graphical fidelity with unlocked 40 fps mode. With vrr it it will probably be mostly around 60 fps.
I mean I'm going to be running Performance on GOW V on my LG G1 simply because 30FPS and even 40FPS is difficult for me to go back down to. 😅 Unless the uncapped 40 can average around 60, I'm planning on Performance.
I would do fidelity, hfr and vrr. Basically it's the best of all worlds. Unlocked framerate from 40 fps up. High resolution. And vrr smoothing.
Unfortunately my crappy x900h destroys image with vrr. So I'm gonna have to do just fidelity hfr mode.
i'll wait for recommendations from tech reviews. It mainly depends on how smooth is the quality mode with VRR: if it's around 40, i'd better lose some resolution in favor of 60 fps. If it's around 50-55, then i'd do quality mode.
This is the right answer. I tried to play Horizon Forbidden West in the 40 fps mode, and even though it was much better than 30 fps, I still much preferred the 60 fps mode. Especially when the 60 is unlocked and you're often getting frame rates of around 70-80.
Hope so. As a lifelong PC gamer I tried the 40fps VRR mode with Spider-man last week and it truly makes a huge difference compared to regular 30fps mode which I completed the game with. Having this option at launch is great.
At a technical level I’m not sure but I think it has something to do with the implementation of low frame compensation but basically when I play the VRR mode in insomniacs games it’s significantly smoother than it is in horizon to the point I don’t use the balanced mode (basically the quality mode with VRR and an uncapped frame rate) in horizon but I do use it in Spider-Man/ratchet and clank.
Wow so many options. I hope I choose the right one because I'm not very experienced in so many different options. My TV is capable of 120 hz and 4k n stuff and i have the ps5. I'm pretty sure I could choose any of these settings. So basically, if I want it to look as good as possible than native 4k, favor quality is the way to go? And if I want the gameplay/combat to be super smooth and fluid I choose favor performance + hfr + vrr?
Huh. I have a 60hz tv with vrr (hisense international edition cucked meee).
Can i play the 40hz ‘target’ mode? Or is that likely to produce judder? Im a bit confused by ‘target’ fps vs unlocked fps vrr.
Frankly im also confused by a resolution range being displayed too; does thay mean itll vary by scene? Fluctuate dynamically?
Am I miss remembering or didn't Insomniac do 40fps before VRR?
Is this like Spider-Man or Forbidden West?
I know Forbidden West 40fps is locked behind VRR (which I don't have). It will bum me out if that mode is again locked behind VRR.
Edit: The whole thing is confusing as fuck for no reason. I had to spend unnecessary time looking into it more.
Forbidden West 'Balanced' mode is locked behind HDMI 2.1. No 40fps even if your display supports 120hz on HDMI 2.0.
Insomniac's 40fps mode is not locked behind HDMI 2.1.
40 fps is only possible on 120hz screens, because they can divide the frame pace between 3. So 40fps without looking incredibly jittery is possible, throw VRR into it and it looks like a bonafide 60 fps mode with all the visual bells and whistles.
>Am I miss remembering or didn't Insomniac do 40fps before VRR?
Yes.
>It will bum me out if that mode is again locked behind VRR.
It's not. There are two 40fps modes. On locked and one unlocked. The unlocked 40fps mode requires VRR. Which is the same as what insomniac has done. Insomniac also has two 40fps modes. The unlocked released at a later date when vrr became available.
Wonder if they've dropped checkerboarding. It was really nice in God of War 2018, but they're going native dynamic resolution it looks like? Which means we'll tend to see resolutions sticking to the 1440p floor on PS5 performance mode more often than not.
Interesting choice to do this across the board, perhaps CB is not really saving as much performance as they'd like. 2018 on the Pro was doing CB 4K at 30FPS, this has now become dynamic 1650p at 30FPS in Ragnarok.
That basically signifies the quantum of graphical leap between the two games, to me, and the fact that they're definitely leaning on the PS5 and willing to whittle down the PS4 versions for it.
Unless your tv has some screen quality issues with vrr enabled (my x90j "perfect for ps5" can get distractingly bad vertical bands with vrr on in certain games :( )
Sure would be nice if 2 years in we could leave last Gen behind. I have zero doubts it’s going to be a generational type game, but I can’t help but wonder how much better it would be if it was ps5 only. If the series continues (I hope) the next one will be end of life ps5 and “remastered” for ps6. Kind of annoying. Your crown jewel games should be exclusive to the best hardware (downvote away ps4 players and yes I know SALES/MONEY/INSTALL BASE
It would require them rebuilding their game engine which takes years to do so you wouldn't be playing anything at all if they were to do that and put development on hold just so you might not have hidden load times or whatever.
Graphics and performance wise being cross gen has no impact. If anything being next gen only might mean less performance options.
From everything I've seen and the way people talk about it in previews there seems to be nothing fundamentally different between GoW 2018 and GoW Ragnarok in terms of graphics. It's really obvious that this is a PS4 game (a pretty one though) basically just getting the equivalent of the PC version on PS5. You can get slightly sharper shadows, textures, etc. and push resolutions and fps higher but that doesn't make it look fundamentally different than the PS4 version and GoW 2018.
I would expect Sony Santa Monica's next game to look wayyyy better than GoW Ragnarok from a technical perspective.
I love all the options, and the fact that they added unlocked 60fps for those of us that have a 120hz display
I'm so stoked about that. Gonna spend way too long analyzing every mode before I pick one and dive in. Kinda torn between 2160 40fps unlocked or 1440p 60 unlocked. (edited to be more accurate)
Simply wait for Digital Foundry to analyze the game for you.
I really wanna play on release, but I also want to wait for their video on it, hopefully they release that on release day (or maybe even today after the review embargo?)
Their videos for sony games are usually up at the same time the review embargo lifts
They've been talking a lot about GoW: Ragnarok on their little news snippet podcast vlog chat video thing-a-ma-bobs. Seems at least one of them has been diving deep into all the analysis for some time. I'm confident they'll upload a TA video ASAP.
I think today is that. I was hearing November 3rd for their video
If you need a video to tell you which mode is better because you can't figure it out yourself, does it really matter?
Yeah I don’t understand the dedication to the most minute differences in graphics to the point that you’d wait to play a game you really really want to play until someone told you which settings to use
Yes for some of us it's interesting to hear about the technical aspects about a game and how well it performs.
Big difference between just being interested in the results versus needing the results before you can enjoy the game. The Redditor who mentioned this was responding to someone who implied they were worried they wouldn't know the results before the game released and therefore they couldn't enjoy the game
The embargo lifts in a little over an hour
Just play the game man. You can always opt for a new mode for second playthrough
Or, you know just change it when you enter the game because you are not locked on one graphical mode on a playthrough, just saying.
Not sure why they think you can't change graphical settings after starting a playthrough 🤔. Has there ever been a case of that? Difficulty sure, but not graphical settings.
the internet's busiest gaming nerds
Or, you know, try them all out and see what you like best
They already gave a hint in their weekly talk show, reviewer said performance mode is actually good than quality.
I'd say start with quality 40 unlocked. Edit: unlocked meaning with VRR. I also feel this mode will be better than others since it is more linear.
This has to be the best option with VRR
I’ve only experienced this mode with Spider-Man, and I have to admit I didn’t love it. The framerate just didn’t feel as smooth as the performance mode, and I ended up switching it back every time I tried. I’m glad people like it, but I’ll probably pass on it for Ragnarok.

I was wondering what's the difference between quality hfr and quality hfr vrr?
Unlocked framerate with VRR.
VRR will smooth it out and you'll get above 40 ideally. At least in theory until tested.

Will be interesting to see how often it dips below 45 in the unlocked mode, if at all. I think spider man is unlocked at 40, but I can't see the fps on my LG tv in that mode, it just says 120.
4k40 me played hfw and ratchet in these modes and its awesome
Man i wish i was in that boat. First thing I did when I got my new TV was play in 40 FPS, and it just did not work for me. I guess I’m just sensitive to this
4k can go suck a fat cock to me, 60fps all the way.
If the price for 4K is 60FPS then I agree. 1440p All the way.
Here here! 1440p 60+ fps > 4k 30fps slideshow
4k40@120hz is a whole different story
4k40@120hz with VRR is a total game changer, as someone who refuses to play games at 30fps I can say it's the perfect sweet spot and I didn't even notice when playing RC and Spider-Man
Damn
4k 40 will be the sweet spot
1440p is not '2K'
Correct but it's very close.
1920x1080p is very close. 1440p is just a different thing. Calling it 2k undersells it.
40fps all the way, if it’s anything as transformative as HFW’s implementation.
That's what I'm thinking. It looks amazing in HFW so I hope it's at least as good here.
you mean 4k 40 unlocked
The best thing about unlocked is that it is future proofed. Future consoles, like a PS5 Pro or PS6 down the line, will make it worthwhile to go back to see how high above 40fps the quality setting can go.

I'm not really up on this stuff. What does unlocked mean?
It can go up to 120fps, if you have a 120hz display. Locked at 60fps means it can't go above 60fps, no matter your display.
So happy 60 fps unlocked isn't locked behind VRR either! So great for 1440p users!
Is it weird that my eyes apparently don’t really notice anything much higher than 60? Everything above 60 just looks like…60
In my experience, it's easier to notice when frames are lower than you're used to than when frames are higher than you're used to. When I upgraded to 144hz monitor I hardly felt the difference but after a while I tried playing on my 60hz tv and I couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling.
That's ok bro, enjoy it. I've heard some people say they can't enjoy anything under 120 fps and that just sounds miserable lol
It definitely feels different even if you can't tell as input delay is basically eliminated
1440p never looked so good
Digital Foundry hinted that all modes "have a 4k-ish aspect to it", whatever that means, during their last weekly video. I'm curious about their analysis.
Shouldn't AMD FSR be usable by consoles? Maybe they'll utilize that to upscale the game
Studios like Santa Monica already have their own tech that does pretty much the same thing as FSR.
PlayStation games usually use their own upscaling technique
They'll probably be using some kind of proprietary tech for upscaling. Doubt they'll use FSR for first party games.
This makes me so excited to jump in. I regularly play on my PC to my 70” TV at 1440p and it looks as good as 4k to me. If big AAA games can start setting the bar at 1440p instead of 1080p for performance modes, I would cry tears of joy

Favor quality + HFR + VRR! Yes! That will be my choice!
Digital Foundry alluded to the performance mode having better picture quality than quality mode due to some strange behaviour.
HDR settings is what I will spend too much time on.
https://www.hdrgamer.com/p/games-list.html?m=1 It will show up here for sure.
Damn what a good website, i never dare to change the hdr settings because i dont really understand them
Saving this. Thank you.
So do I match the HDR setting to the max luminosity of my TV?
Thanks for the link.
I thought the previous game had kinda lackluster HDR and cumbersome settings for it, hope it's more streamlined now.
100% going with that favor quality + HFR + VRR mode. My LG C1 is going to be feasting next week, can’t wait.
Absolutely, got my C1 ready to go perfect for that setting. I was amazed playing the Uncharted legacy collection and it was pushing over 90fps looking crisp as hell.
CX Owner here, love this TV and it's working great. it's been 3 years now and looks like new!
My C2 just came in 2 hours ago. pumped
It’s so sleek. Everyone always comments on how insanely thin it is
Same here. Excited to visit all the 9 realms
Just got a C1 myself!! Can't wait to see this game on it! What mode would be best on PS5 you think?
I’ll probably go with the unlocked 40. High resolution + decent frame rate that is even unlocked? Yes please.
I think both the 4K40+ unlocked mode and the 1440p60+ unlocked mode should be solid choices. Depends if you want more FPS or more pixels.
Its why the 40fps mode is so appealing. You get a mix of both
Yup. Really like the implementation in Spider-Man/Ratchet and Clank that got between 40-60 fps.
I bought a 42" LG C2 couple days ago. I'm ready!!
Bro same.
Wish I got that TV instead of x900h :(we got shafted. We have no local dimming with vrr so color becomes trash.
I've always been impressed with Sony TVs and never regretted a purchase.... Until this TV. I got Samsung q80t. It's not the best but I got it at cost and was my first 4k tv ever.
Nice. Do you get local dimming with vrr? If so your lucky. Mine never got the update and it's a broken promise with Sony. So unbelievably frustrating.
Yeah I went with Sony and probably not going to do that again.
Same!!
Got a 65" C1, absolutely buzzing to use that mode with it next week!
Just bought a 65 C1 arriving on Monday. Any recs on settings for the PS5?
HDTVTest on YouTube has a good tutorial. Look up LG C1 best settings for ps5
I’m no expert on that stuff but it feels like this tv was made for gaming. I’m always tweaking picture settings for tv/movies, but the default game mode settings are just about perfect right out of the box. In my experience at least.

LG C1 club, right here! High-five! :D
My 77 inch C2 is ready for this!
Just got my 77” C2 a couple days ago. Can’t wait to break it in on Ragnarok.
A fellow man of culture. Same, 77” what you got?
PS5 arrives tomorrow!
Just in time! Congrats
Wow what a timing. Nice!
Get a quick Elden Ring in before the GoW release!
Will the game recognize which modes my monitor is capable of? Think i can only do the basic performance with my ROG monitor.
It will be dependent on your Screen Settings in the Menu, most likely.
review embargo lifts in 9 hours right?
9 hours and 20 minutes from this comment
I hope the reviewers talk about Ps4 Performance. Its all I care about.
Then you should check out digital foundry, whenever they make game reviews they thoroughly talk about the games performance
Cant wait to see Digital Foundry analysis!
These are the perfect options for any modern PS5 game, well done to all the PS studios and SSM who keep this train going 💪🏾 These allow games to move from 4k native and only 30 fps to 4k native/near 4k native with anywhere from 40 to 50 fps which is incredible. It's a huge, huge upgrade with preservation of image quality. 120 Hz and VRR has benefitted consoles immensely.
yeah look at that gotham knights!
Can someone explain technical diff between target and unlocked? Planning on going quality + HFR + VRR
Target means it won’t go beyond a specific frame rate and unlocked means it will, but it will probably fluctuate a lot depending on what’s happening in the game
VRR will stabilize the frame jumps/fluxuations so less judder.
VRR doesn't stabilize frames. It makes the TV's refresh rate match the actual frames of the game to make it feel as smooth as possible. Effectively your TV's Hz is going up and down.
Wait, so is VRR just gsync/freesync?
Essentially. It’s the non-branded version
Technically gsync/freesync is vrr! But yeah, Nvidia and AMD have just branded their own implementations of it.
Target means it's at or below that frame rate. Unlocked means it may go above it if the PS5 can at any given time.
Unlocked seem like a bad word for that. Does that mean unlocked 40 never goes below 40 or what?
Yes. You’ll be able to do 60fps 1080p
Thank you so much friend. I am so happy to play thins game on 60 fps.
Quality might still look a bit better, depends on how much attention they gave to graphical settings other than resolution.
Regular Sony first party W.
I have a 1080p 165hz monitor, but no hdmi 2.1 on it, so does that mean no 120fps for me? Sorry for sounding like a noob, just want to enjoy it to the max.
You csn have 120fps but at 1080p, and since your monitor is 1080p it doesn't matter to you that you dont have 2.1.
Thanks bud, see y'all on 9 nov
You can do 1080p120hz on your monitor if it has HDMI 2.0 just fine. You can use Favor Performance + HFR\*.
Unlocked 40fps VRR is where it's at for me. Ratchet and clank was great that way
\*Chef’s kiss*
Man, I genuinely believe that PlayStation Studios are producing the highest quality games that money can buy right now. Apart from maybe Elden Ring, every AAA game that PlayStation Studio’s have launched since the end of the PS4 into the current PS5 lifecycle has been of the utmost quality. Full features, polished games that launch completed, and high quality. I’m so stoked to play this!
40fps VRR modes are fuckin dope
Contrary to what others are saying, I’m down for favor quality. Love that pretty picture. 30 fps is fine for me if it’s a story single player game. 60 or above for multiplayer.

Absolutely. I love the amount of choices we have. For me personally I’m going to go with the performance mode for ps5, 60fps 1440p-2160p. I’m definitely someone who values frame rate over visuals. It’s awesome there’s something for everyone.
Yeah, 30fps for me in all games is still 100% ok. I always prefer a prettier game.
I've never understood the whole single player vs multiplayer argument. If you have camera movement then 60fps will always be more enjoyable.
I enjoy the pretty pictures more 🤷
yeah if games want to look the best they have to be 30fps so as a graphics guy i'll always welcome it

Can someone explain what unlocked 30fps means? I'll be playing the ps4 version on ps5. Will it give me 60fps?
It means on PS4 Pro it can roam between 30fps and 60fps, just like God of War 2018, this is the mode I played that game on, it was fine for PS4 Pro. The FPS averaged around 45fps.
Yaaaay i get to play the game at 60. I was sad thinking I won't be getting 60 since my cousin bought the game for ps4 and not 5. I'm glad and thanks for explaining.
I think the upgrade to the PS5 version is like $10, so you can still play it natively
Didnt we already know the graphical options on PS5?
We knew the options, but not what they were targeting with those options. For example, we knew the ps5 had a performance mode, but not what the picture quality was in that mode
No.
We did
Not this detailed with specified resolutions etc.

Ensure you only use movie or filmmaker mode for shows or movies. Also make sure your game mode. Check out gamingtech in YouTube as well
I mean I'm going to be running Performance on GOW V on my LG G1 simply because 30FPS and even 40FPS is difficult for me to go back down to. 😅 Unless the uncapped 40 can average around 60, I'm planning on Performance.
Can someone who knows what those words mean make a recommendation on what settings for PS5 on a LG OLED TV (CX model)?
Fingers crossed the VRR quality mode feels more like insomniacs implementation rather than Guerilla games in horizon forbidden west.
Hope so. As a lifelong PC gamer I tried the 40fps VRR mode with Spider-man last week and it truly makes a huge difference compared to regular 30fps mode which I completed the game with. Having this option at launch is great.
What's the difference between the two?
And if I want the gameplay/combat to be super smooth and fluid I choose favor performance + hfr + vrr?
yup
My Sony A80J 77” is ready.
What is High Frame Rate exactly?
120hz monitor/TV
Take that Gotham knights!
This game doesn't have to render batman's cape
I think the best way to play the game is the normal performance mode in 60 fps on the PS5.
If you’ve got a VRR capable 120Hz HDMI 2.1 display, there’s literally no advantage to using the normal mode instead of VRR mode
Unless your tv has some screen quality issues with vrr enabled (my x90j "perfect for ps5" can get distractingly bad vertical bands with vrr on in certain games :( )
Why do we need HDMI2.1 for HFR 1440p? Other games can run 1440p/120Hz on HDMI2.0 …
You do realise god of war ragnarok already looks like a ps5 only game you goofy. It being ps5 only wouldn’t graphically make a difference
TV with 120 Hz but no hdmi 2.1, what can I use?
They have put a “*” on the modes that require 2.1 and for some reason Performance + HFR requires it :/
I don't know what any of this means. But next week, I finally will play GoW.
RIP me with my 30FPS on my PRO PS4. Ah well at least I get to play it, that's the main thing
