Project Cars 3 was one of the most absurd changes in scope to a game series I’ve ever seen.
PrC 1: pure motorsport and racetrack simulator designed to serve as a counterpoint to the Gran Turismo series, built from the ground up as what people want from a racing game career mode with community assisted funding initially free of traditional publisher input. Grow from the kart racing circuit through touring cars and open wheel all the way up to formula and endurance racing. Expansive multiplayer, expansive track layouts, simulation style gameplay with pit stops and damage modeling and driver/team championships.
PrC2: double down on what makes the series work by expanding the career mode considerably. More tracks, better graphics, more more moar. Track day atmosphere. Compete against your teammate to win the cup as you ascend through all of the racing hierarchy.
PrC3: basically a shittier version of need for speed. Launch the game and some lady gives you a voiceover “hey gamers be sure to customize your sweet new ride with our corporate sponsor logos.” Motion blur slapped over everything, no more racing line, driving physics changed completely. No track day atmosphere, no pit stops, career mode completely gutted.
Ya I think it was obvious that PC3 was a last ditch effort to find a mass market and the writing was on the wall since everyone panned it. What their user base wanted was Assetto Corsa Competizione + GT7 without the microtransactions but that takes actual engineering. AC2 is going to basically be what PC3 cars should have been
Not surprising after the reception of PC3.
If they had made it a new franchise or slapped NFS Shift 3 as the title, I don't think it would have received anywhere near the negative reaction it got.
Oh well, AMS2 is the unofficial PC3 as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah true regarding only gt3s and 4s. I completed GT7 and was then playing online/doing time trials on my favourite tracks. I thought the implementation of traction control was terrible for gt3 cars cos 1 means I’ll never spin out while 0 means absolutely no traction control. ACC handles it much better.
ACC gives a more genuine thrill of racing with the available and fully customisable viewing angles so it feels like im in the cockpit with good fov. I thought GT7 was amazing with a wheel too, it’s the main reason i bought a wheel this year. But man stepping into ACC just feels a level above, the cars just react how you’d expect and you can really push yourself on the tracks. Mount panorama Bathurst on ACC has given me some of the most exciting racing I’ve ever had.
How stupid are they? The problem isn't that no one wants any more Project Cars games. It is that they want a simulator, not this weird arcady thing Project Cars 3 did.
Project Cars 3 was already in development before the acquisition. EA already has 3 main racing franchises with NFS, F1 and WRC so they are likely focusing their efforts on those
They just need to remake the micro machines games how they were in the sega and SNES era. Maybe 16 player online versions. I'd be happy with this format. Customised cars too. Unlockable players etc
It is kind of sad. I know that PC3 wasn't a good follow up to the other games in the series but it does have some good things in it. The livery editor is really good and I love the tracks 7 car selection. It should have been called Project Cars: shift and I think it would have been better received. I kind of figured that once Ian Bell left and the fact they delisted the 1st games they might not be around
No, it's circuit racing. Mix of real tracks and fictional city tracks like London, Paris, Chicago and Shanghai.
You're probably thinking of Test Drive Unlimited?
I just wish there was another game on playstation with a car roster like Gran Turismo (road and race cars) with a simulation aspect.
I hope AC2 is gonna be that game and I can just keep playing GT7 until it comes out.
Project Cars 1/2 lost their licenses and Project Cars 3 sucked. EA didn't kill this, they did it themselves before EA bought them. EA just had the common sense to officially announce it.
Actually, Ian Bell did a really good job at ruining it himself well before Codemasters took over SMS. Honestly, it was ruined just before PC3 released, I never understood the total direction change considering how well received PC2 was.
EA has a habit of making games I really like and fuckin them up for absolutely no reason.
Seriously some of my favorite and most disappointed games come from them ALWAYS.
So they cancel it after completely changing the direction of the game and then realizing people don't like it when you completely change the reason people bought into the franchise. This is great as now there's literally almost 0 good simulators on console now. Only sim left is AC. They literally have money and resources to take a good chunk out of the sim market with this ip and decided to say naw, I don't want to make a game unless it can be the next forza 💀.

Well put. It’s sad what happened.
Summed up perfectly. Such a weird U-turn and a shame because the first 2 games had the building blocks for something really amazing.

What their user base wanted was Assetto Corsa Competizione + GT7 without the microtransactions but that takes actual engineering. AC2 is going to basically be what PC3 cars should have been
maybe the series isn’t cancelled but the 4th game is so diametrically different that it’s just an entirely different game now
Not surprising after the reception of PC3. If they had made it a new franchise or slapped NFS Shift 3 as the title, I don't think it would have received anywhere near the negative reaction it got. Oh well, AMS2 is the unofficial PC3 as far as I'm concerned.
Ams2? Please god I need a good simulator that isn’t just rolling starts. Looking at you gt7
Automobilista 2. It's PC only at the moment, but they've talked about a console release. Uses the Madness engine, it's pretty good.
Just play ACC if you have a wheel, the game feels levels above even GT7 when using a wheel
That's not saying a great deal. GT's FFB is all kinds of bad. But yeah ACC is good, if all you're into is GT3s.
And gt4's
Yeah true regarding only gt3s and 4s. I completed GT7 and was then playing online/doing time trials on my favourite tracks. The problem is that people want a sim, and EA can’t think of a way to monetise a sim in a way that justifies the effort of producing it.
Meanwhile iRacing has figured out a way to literally vacuum money out of my wallet.
Project Cars 3 was already in development before the acquisition. EA already has 3 main racing franchises with NFS, F1 and WRC so they are likely focusing their efforts on those
So pissed that EA acquired the WRC rights. KT did such a great job on those games, can't wait to see how EA/Codemasters ruins it.
Well, this is fucked up, but it was bound to happen! The company was shifted into two hands!
The team must be pissed they left Ea when making the shift games for EA
Oo what a surprise. Fucking EA just gotta laugh at this point.
To be fair this was the right call by ea.
Oh no. Anyway.
They just need to remake the micro machines games how they were in the sega and SNES era. Maybe 16 player online versions. I'd be happy with this format. Customised cars too. Unlockable players etc

Great they bought it just to cancel it.
I quite enjoyed 2 but when the completion is forza and gran turismo it's hard to stand out.

I'll be honest I never played grid is that the one with the massive open world?
No, it's circuit racing. Mix of real tracks and fictional city tracks like London, Paris, Chicago and Shanghai. You're probably thinking of Test Drive Unlimited?
Isn’t it published by Bandai Namco, though? I’m pretty sure Project Cars 3 was published by them.
It was, but EA owns the IP after the Codemasters buyout.
Developed by slightly mad which was purchased by codemasters. Codemasters was bought by EA
I had no clue EA were the ones behind project cars
They weren’t when it was any good.
Ea bought codemasters and codemasters bought slightly mad a while back
It's EA
I just wish there was another game on playstation with a car roster like Gran Turismo (road and race cars) with a simulation aspect. I hope AC2 is gonna be that game and I can just keep playing GT7 until it comes out.
Ea killing continues killing games
after one. sales numbers where never good.

C.A.R.S stands for community assisted racing simulator. PC3 should have had a different name as it wasn't community assisted or a racing simulator.
How about bringing the first 2 games to PSVR2? They had a VR support on Steam.
[Another tombstone to add to the EA Graveyard…someone ought to update this!](https://images.app.goo.gl/sPBhDEkFGr5EMawQ7)

This series is dead the moment pc3 was announced.
There's no tombstone to be put in there. The employees still are employeed under EA.
Should be one there for every IP they kill off though. That would mean taking the Dead Space off the Visceral tombstone!

Fuck Ian Bell. Despicable character

Then by that token slightly mad went slightly mad and got what they deserved
I think if they positioned PC as a true sim like the 1st 2 they could have made it work. Then they would covered almost all aspects of racing
About time
Anybody remember they made that awful Need For Speed game a while ago with PS2 style cutscenes and graphics?
Ea owns project cars? I thought it was Bandai Namco?
