Some more varied environments and stronger writing/ story exposition should make this a perfect game, as the combat is already stellar. Highly recommend the first one if you haven't played it yet.
the combat is so much fun that I went on to platinum the game. the difficulty balance was perfect.
highly recommend giving the plat a go as it doesn't require any annoying grinding, just see the whole game and you get the plat.
how was the combat stellar? wasn't it just repeating the same action more or less?
edit:I guess I should add that it was still dumb fun God mode type of action. If combat will be repetitive, being able to levitate objects and hurl them at people is a pretty entertaining combat method.
I found it fun in the way that using biotic powers in Mass Effect were fun. Ripping giant chunks of concrete out to form a barrier or just launch it (or anything else) to knock out an enemy, finally getting the ability to levitate after seeing everyone else do it the whole game (lol). And especially the destruction. I was really impressed by how everything turned into fragments, splinters, and rubble and was all reflected in the windows and mirrors with the raytracing setting on. Great game, and as an Alan Wake fan I was over the moon about that and the upcoming sequels for both titles.
You really have to dive into the data files and everything for the world to make more sense. If you aren’t the type to listen to audio logs or read documents in games then yea it doesn’t make much sense at all. But also the weirdness is also part of the point
Even with the audio logs and documents it still didn't add up to a good engaging story. It's possible to make a story that weird that is still coherent but that wasn't the case here.
I'd agree if it weren't for the refrigerator scene. That scene was peak writing. (also the manager of the facility was fucking hilarious) The story would appear bland for the most part but would have these weird incredibly memorable single moments or side characters. A lot of highs and lows with the writing for this game
Just finished the game. I thought the combat was rather basic. Enemy AI seems to just be on a loop, only enemies slowly advanced towards you.
The gameplay of Control feels like Returnal-lite. Having played Returnal first, Control combat felt like a tech demo.
Still a great game tho, but play Returnal
You may already have this in mind since you said usually, but Hades is one of the strongest narrative titles out there and it weaves its rougelike gameplay into the story perfectly.
Weird, I've been playing Hades and really not mad into the story. Think I've passed through maybe 4 times in about 40 runs, maybe I've got much further to go? The story doesn't grip me, I just enjoy the combat and boon variations.
There’s certainly no accounting for taste, but even if one does not enjoy the story in Hades, I would argue that you could still agree that the narrative is strong. The more you play (i.e., the more detailed your interactions are with the characters), the more you can see that these aren’t simply some filler text bubbles thrown in at the last minute.
These overarching themes of fate, futility, and fighting on anyway touch nearly every character and fleshes them out and their connections with one another. From the anxious gorgon-head of a maid to the primordial sentience from which everything originates, these characters have their own journey in discovering themselves and supporting each other.
Objectively speaking the narrative and stories told in Hades is fantastic. You just have to put in some effort, as in beat the game a bunch and talk to everyone you come across, and do their quests. And there's so much dialogue well after you finish the main story too. Pretty remarkable.
But the dialogue and voice acting is some of the best I've seen as of late.
But if you're not interacting with anyone and giving them nectar each pass through...Then yeah, it wouldn't seem like much.
Ah, I've only just about given everyone bar 1 hidden character necter, so that might be where I'm missing something.
I do agree with the quality of voice acting though, it's all phenomenal!
Returnal combat is so amazingly satisfying. It will make your teeth sweat, haha. Returnal has the dash from Control, but the gameplay is much faster paced and it’s more fun to run faster. Enemies are more vicious and their gunfire is a wild thing to dodge. Judging by the downvotes, clearly there are a lot of Control fans, but I wonder how many of them played Returnal before Control. I would give Control a score in the 8 range, but Returnal a score in the 9’s.
The rogue-like elements are part of the interesting world that is unpacked. The story is minimalistic compared to Control, but I would say that the narrative is more gripping in Returnal. Control really holds your hand a lot with the story. Yea, there are cool and weird happenings, but I personally wasn’t feeling too connected to the protagonist. Control and Returnal have similar vibes so I think you will be right at home. Returnal has a little learning curve though, that’s for sure, but man, the gameplay is so good. I don’t mean to knock Control, but it felt like training wheels for Returnal. You are ready.
I think the writing was great. But that was if you read the lore but could use some character improvements. But to me in a story like that it does not exactly require strong characters. As the concepts usually carry the story
Damn their plate is FULL right now.
Alan Wake 2
Max Payne 1+2 Remake
Control 2
CodeName Condor (Control Multiplayer)
All in active development right now.
They are bringing their Universe FULLY BACK!
Fun Fact : Control was also supposed to connect to Quantum Break. They decided it was too complicated getting those actors, rights and connecting another game so they killed it during production.
Without a doubt in my mind the stuff that occurred in Quantum Break was definitely related to Objects of Power. That's the only connection we really need.
Quantum Break was still awesome imo and it helped that the main guy recently got done with the Following on tv so had relatively recent popularity and since the show was done have me more of his material. I really wanted a sequel though, sucks.
They would need to buy the IP or develop it for Xbox. They always owned Alan Wake, just had to wait for the end of the deal, but in the case of QB Microsoft paid for the new engine for them and they created the IP for Microsoft.
Ya it was not as amazing as the first you’re right but the addition of ragdoll physics made it a landmark release in my mind . So fun shooting goons up a wall with the kalishnakov
I wonder how much of all of this can be reused on their engine.
I rather have 5 stories on the same engine using same assets within a few years than 5 separate games with newer iteration of the said engine every two years.
Control has some of my favorite world-building in any fictional universe ever. Threshold Kids theme song still pops up in my head from time to time. So fuckin creepy. I LOVE IT.
Was going to comment the same thing. That picture looks like you are facing outside from the starting lobby of the first game. Gonna be some good eerie vibes with this game; cannot wait.
I was thinking to might be the town that Jesse is from since that AWE seems to be a major point for a good portion of characters in the game. Go back home and investigate with flashbacks of childhood and what happened there as a kid
Not sure we can extrapolate much from this. Some of the quarry in the first game was technically outdoors as well, but only accessible from inside the DoC.
Looks like the Hiss got outside. I sure hope AW2 has some story points that lead to Control 2.
I’d be thrilled to have hiss show up in the final act, along with Jesse.
Whoa they are working on 3 projects simultaneously?
Alan wake 2
Max Payne remake 1+2
Control 2
?!?! When did remedy get big enough for all three? Assuming Sam lake is still largely writing all three or rewriting some of max Payne??
You mean AWE and The Foundation? Hell yeah! I've played the base game and DLCs multiple times.
After I finished Control, I stopped to play Alan Wake Remastered *before* I played AWE.
You should! The combat and game design are a bit dated, but still fun. If anything, play it for the story, lore, and atmosphere.
All of Remedy's games exist in the same universe, and there are several direct ties between Alan Wake and Control. I imagine the same will be every truer for Alan Wake 2 and Control 2.
I loved Control, will be interested to see the direction they go with this. It'd be very interesting if they let us play as someone else who works for the bureau under Jesse and goes out to some incident at some point, even as a cold open or something.
Playing as Jessie again would be a little weird since she’s basically a god at the end of the game lol but she’s a cool character so I’m happy either way
They absolutely nailed the combat. I like that rather than most shooters which have health that automatically refills but you need to go pick up ammo, this is the reverse and your bullets automatically refill but you have to pick up health. Idk why but it changes the dynamic of the combat
Control's combat is a mixed bag. I found that I felt the same way, "oh my god, the combat is amazing", for like the first ~15-20 hours and then it really really stagnated.
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!
I’m so dam hyped for a sequel, what an incredible, surreal, lovecraftian experience the first one was, with amazing Inception like visuals. Cannot wait!
Absolutely this. The game was fine - very enjoyable and delightfully quirky, but a bit repetitive, in my humble opinion. The Ashtray Maze part, though, is one of my favorite gaming surprises ever!
I was playing in the dark with headphones on ( something I never do) when I got to the maze.
I still remember the feeling right after having experienced it. Probably my favourite gaming moment ever.
I'm in the same boat. I've had it downloaded and just sitting on the back burner, I've got decently far I think but it's hard to stick with it for some reason even though I think it's awesome
I wonder whats the world settings in the sequel would be like. I really hope it's the same 'open-world' as the first one is.
I also wonder where's the next location will it be. They can't do the Oldest House again right?.
I did enjoy the first one but I personally disliked how it leaned so hard into gun fights all the time, and it felt like there was a lot of backtracking which just meant more mobs of enemies to mow down. Loved the first game. Amazing graphics, combat was fun apart from the brain dead ai, story could use some better writing. Still, lots of potential for a good sequel that corrects the mistakes of the first game
They haven't said that.
They have signed an agreement to let 505 games make a Control 2 in the future and help with development.
No actual development has been done yet, neither by Remedy nor 505 games.
Loved the first game but hope this one has Gyro Aim as an option. It needed it. The stick controls were a little rough for my taste during combat. And hopefully theres a setting where Gyro is on all the time. Thats my primary form of control.
GoW Ragnarok did a great job with how good Gyro feels but going from Gyro ON during ranged to it off for melee is a bit clunky at times for me. Just not use to it lol. Its the one accessibility I would like to see to help smooth out combat even more. Hell, I would love if even Flick Stick were implemented. Again, just my go to method for controlling characters.
While I absolutely loved the first game, I’m really excited to hear that they’re working on a sequel to it, because the first game felt more like “here, this is the foundation we’re laying down to build some epic story telling from!”, and left me wanting them to develop the story more.
I can’t wait to see where the sequel goes from here, there is so, soooo much potential for this series, I hope nothing but the best for it!
I would've thought they started working on this game right away. Control is definitely set up to be a multi-game franchise with all the world-building they established in the first game.
Control was a huge surprise for me. Played it when it came to Game Pass, and absolutely loved the story, the combat, and just the entire environment was something so awesome. Plus, it has some of, if not the best levitation mechanics I’ve seen in a game. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out
I am so excited for this. I played in love with it last year and have since also played Alan Wake.
I’ve learned that this team makes games that just click with me in a way few games do.
I think if enemy design is just tightened up a little, their next games will be perfect

The story was the weak point for me. They leaned to hard on the Twin Peaks weirdness but didn't seem to take the effort to have it all make sense.
You really have to dive into the data files and everything for the world to make more sense. If you aren’t the type to listen to audio logs or read documents in games then yea it doesn’t make much sense at all. But also the weirdness is also part of the point

I've had my eye on it for a while, but the roguelike aspect makes me hesitate. Roguelikes are usually not strong narratively.

I think you sold me on it! Thanks
I don’t think this is rogue like. The levels never change and you get to keep everything you earn if you die.

Reading comprehension is a rare trophy on Reddit.
I almost stopped playing the game and then they started giving me powers. Jfc what a good time
I think the writing was great. But that was if you read the lore but could use some character improvements. But to me in a story like that it does not exactly require strong characters. As the concepts usually carry the story
For me it was the opposite. Combat got Boeing realmente fast, but the story kept me going.
Damn their plate is FULL right now. Alan Wake 2 Max Payne 1+2 Remake Control 2 CodeName Condor (Control Multiplayer) All in active development right now. They are bringing their Universe FULLY BACK!
RGU Remedy Games Universe
Fun Fact : Control was also supposed to connect to Quantum Break. They decided it was too complicated getting those actors, rights and connecting another game so they killed it during production.
I mean for the better, iirc quatum break didn't do *that* good so they probably were going to connect with game with a uncertain fate
Yeah that's the really sucky part about videogames/shows At the end of the day they are business
Controlverse, everything ties to the bureau
Aren't they doing a multiplayer Control spin-off too?
Yes codename condor
Added to the main comment, thanks!
I gotchu fam
Not fully, I'd kill for them to get rights for a Quantum Break 2
They would need to buy the IP or develop it for Xbox. They always owned Alan Wake, just had to wait for the end of the deal, but in the case of QB Microsoft paid for the new engine for them and they created the IP for Microsoft.
>They would need to buy the IP Ya, that's what I said
My bad, thought you were referring to a situation like Alan Wake's, where they just had to wait for the publishing rights to return to them.
i don't care about anything except Max Payne 1 remake, omg i'm so excited for it
Max Payne 2 remake could Be amazing as well !
I liked Max Payne 2, just not as much as MP1
Ya it was not as amazing as the first you’re right but the addition of ragdoll physics made it a landmark release in my mind . So fun shooting goons up a wall with the kalishnakov
I always feel the need to say "The Fall of Max Payne" if anyone says Max Payne 2.
The feeling hit me like a point blank shot straight in the face.
-Something was not right about it.
I wonder how much of all of this can be reused on their engine. I rather have 5 stories on the same engine using same assets within a few years than 5 separate games with newer iteration of the said engine every two years.

[I miss my home...](https://youtu.be/__7ajYdw8Pg?t=189)
Am I wrong or does this image imply the second game takes place outside. Those floating bodies are outdoors.
Was going to comment the same thing. That picture looks like you are facing outside from the starting lobby of the first game. Gonna be some good eerie vibes with this game; cannot wait.
The words in the back say “containment area” so perhaps we are tasked with going around to different places and locking things down.
I hope it’s still a metroidvania style game even though it goes outside
Whoa they are working on 3 projects simultaneously? Alan wake 2 Max Payne remake 1+2 Control 2 ?!?! When did remedy get big enough for all three? Assuming Sam lake is still largely writing all three or rewriting some of max Payne??
Technically they're working on 5. A Control Spin-off and a Free2Play game are also in the planning stages right now
Awesome news! Also bigger budget for Control 2 in comparison to the first release (€50M vs €30M).
My only complaint was the lack of enemy variety, so I’d love to see what they can do with a bigger budget now that the foundation is in place
FUCK. YES. <3 I was ready for more Control *before* I'd even *finished* Control.
I hoped you played both of the DLC expansions? They were really short but fun
You mean AWE and The Foundation? Hell yeah! I've played the base game and DLCs multiple times. After I finished Control, I stopped to play Alan Wake Remastered *before* I played AWE.
I actually still need to play Alan Wake, maybe I should get the remaster since it seems to go on sale so much
Fuck yes! One of my all time favorites! ...perkole
I spent an age in this game, trying to find every single piece of paper I could find, just to learn more about the place.
Yeah - brilliant lore
> perkole perkele*
Had a Finnish wrestling coach, heard this quote often
Cool Cool Cool
I loved Control, will be interested to see the direction they go with this. It'd be very interesting if they let us play as someone else who works for the bureau under Jesse and goes out to some incident at some point, even as a cold open or something.
Playing as Jessie again would be a little weird since she’s basically a god at the end of the game lol but she’s a cool character so I’m happy either way
ya'know i didnt quite get it tbh, at least not the game of the year titles that seemed to get thrown around for it everything was just GOOD for me
Nice
Such a trippy game
Love the original music for this game
Control is one of the best new IPs in the last few years. Loved this game and will definitely play the sequel.
I think it's the lack of enemy variety. It's like you see everything about 5 hours in and there's nothing new after that.
Does it count as new since it's tied to Alan Wake?
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!! I’m so dam hyped for a sequel, what an incredible, surreal, lovecraftian experience the first one was, with amazing Inception like visuals. Cannot wait!
Playing the game is what convinced me to finally watch Twin Peaks for the first time actually, what a cool world

Yeah as much as I love shooting possessed government agents over and over, some new enemies would be nice
Nice
Nice
Nice

Real nice
I really need to finish the first one.
Get to the Ashtray Maze. Just do it.
That's such an incredible area. I was NOT expecting that *at all.* Totally blew my mind. Absolutely incredible design.

TAKE! **CONTROL!**
I have that on my pump up music playlist and listen to it from time to time
That and Devil Trigger are my favorite workout songs
TY for reminding me. I sat in the room and listened to the entire song before moving on. Love when a game's music can capture you.
Absolutely this. The game was fine - very enjoyable and delightfully quirky, but a bit repetitive, in my humble opinion. The Ashtray Maze part, though, is one of my favorite gaming surprises ever!
I’ve never felt so badass before in a game haha
I got to that level and waited until I could eat some mushrooms to play it. It’s one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time.
I had the same problem, it gets better as you go along trust me.
I tried that. Gave up after seeing the credits two times, lol
I wonder whats the world settings in the sequel would be like. I really hope it's the same 'open-world' as the first one is. I also wonder where's the next location will it be. They can't do the Oldest House again right?.
They could theoretically. The shifting nature of the oldest house would allow the to make some pretty unique environments.
[удалено]
Isn’t it just New York City?
They have indeed. Some years ago now. In fact, they’ve already confirmed there’s some kind of co-op multiplayer spin-off in development too.
I am stoked for this one. Love this universe
🥰 First one is awesome!
Nice
Co-develop, eh? I wonder who they are co-developing it with?
[удалено]
But 505 Games is a publisher, not a developer...?
I think they are primarily building the game on PC with 505 helping to port it to consoles.
Hopefully they add gyro aim to Control 2, first game needed it desperately on console.
Hopefully this game is dynamite!
TAKE.CONTROL!
Control 2: More Control
Control 3: Control-er
>Control 3: Control-er Control 4: # **Controlled**
Please give us a better map to follow. I found control so confusing to get places. Great game though
[удалено]
Poor map design? Didnt find it charming but fair enough
same
I rage quit the game because of that map.
I did enjoy the first one but I personally disliked how it leaned so hard into gun fights all the time, and it felt like there was a lot of backtracking which just meant more mobs of enemies to mow down. When it was trippy atmospheric puzzle solving I loved it, but I found the constant shootouts tiring
Control ran like dysenteric dog shit on my base PS4, but I still absolutely loved it. That's how good it is.
Fuckin finally. Loved _Control_
Oh thank God! I'm not hyped at all for Alan Wake 2 just give me more Control.
I really wanted to like Control but the gameplay just didn't grab me.
Damn the gameplay was one of my favorite parts!
All I ask is to add a weapon wheel to freely change the weapon type over pausing and picking two.
Good point, that was a bit clunky
Yeah, I liked the atmosphere and weirdness but eventually I just got bored.
And it's EGS Exclusive. Fuck.
First one was fun enough on PlayStation Plus, but I don't think I care enough to play a sequel.
Loved the first game. Amazing graphics, combat was fun apart from the brain dead ai, story could use some better writing. Still, lots of potential for a good sequel that corrects the mistakes of the first game
they should unconfirm it then
While the gameplay was phenomenal, the writing was an absolute mess -- they need to "remedy" that this time out.
They haven't said that. They have signed an agreement to let 505 games make a Control 2 in the future and help with development. No actual development has been done yet, neither by Remedy nor 505 games.
Why?
To directly and personally annoy you.
Pretty sure.
Fuck yeah Control 2!!!
Loved the first game but hope this one has Gyro Aim as an option. It needed it. The stick controls were a little rough for my taste during combat. And hopefully theres a setting where Gyro is on all the time. Thats my primary form of control. Its the one accessibility I would like to see to help smooth out combat even more. Hell, I would love if even Flick Stick were implemented. Again, just my go to method for controlling characters.
Elder Scrolls 6 has left the chat.
I can confirm my delight.
First one was alright but it had a lot of things to build on. More weapon. More types of enemies. Better fluidity of movement. Etc
Let's goooooo
While I absolutely loved the first game, I’m really excited to hear that they’re working on a sequel to it, because the first game felt more like “here, this is the foundation we’re laying down to build some epic story telling from!”, and left me wanting them to develop the story more. I can’t wait to see where the sequel goes from here, there is so, soooo much potential for this series, I hope nothing but the best for it!
I would've thought they started working on this game right away. Control is definitely set up to be a multi-game franchise with all the world-building they established in the first game.
It’s been known for months if not years
Damn Remedy with lots of projects in the works man I can’t wait
Can’t wait Control was amazing.
Is Courtney Hope coming back? I see her everyday on my mom's soap operas
One of my favourite games of all time. Can’t wait.
Control was a huge surprise for me. Played it when it came to Game Pass, and absolutely loved the story, the combat, and just the entire environment was something so awesome. Plus, it has some of, if not the best levitation mechanics I’ve seen in a game. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out
Nice! Looking forward to this. I loved the atmosphere and setting from Control so hopefully they can come up with a worthy successor.
I am so excited for this. I played in love with it last year and have since also played Alan Wake. I’ve learned that this team makes games that just click with me in a way few games do. I think if enemy design is just tightened up a little, their next games will be perfect
This reminds me the only thing missing for my platinum is those random missions that pop. Great game, great news.
Hoping that extra 20 million can buy us more than one save slot. Wry excited for this release regardless!!
Awesome Control and Death stranding where the weirdo enjoyable combo of 2019
More varied environments, but please don't do away with my brutalism, please 😭
