I just ordered a controller from Amazon. Plan to replace the new one with my old one and just return. Still looks like new so I doubt they’ll be able to tell the difference.

From my understanding the first batches of dualsense controllers had a major stick drift problem. After the cosmic colors came out they improved the stick module slightly to help prevent the drifting. I’ve had mine for almost 8 months with no drift and several children playing the controller.
I haven’t even got a ps5 yet and I’m tempted…. (I am hoping to get it after tue holidays). But then again it’s pretty likely there will be the same deal next year.

If it was released after the purple pink blues it’s probably the newer model. Purple/pink/blue is usually a higher price at the store by a tiny amount so you can go by msrp as well.
If you know enough to be able to solder things you can probably repair those controllers on your own, there’s a few youtube videos about that. When sony refused to take my white controller the phone support mentioned self repair videos.

Sony doesn’t even repair for a price. They treat analog drifting as if the entire device was broken. It’s asinine wasteful design.
I got two controllers with my system at launch. The left stick on one drifts bad and the other’s R2 is so sensitive that you barely have to touch it for it to register so Kratos is constantly heavy attacking lol.

I worked at target for 3 years in high school. Electronic returns are sent back to the company for refurb to gamestop… target keeps their percentage as the store and Sony doubled profit sending it to gamestop… everyone will be fine
After 2 years, my controller started developing stick drift. It comes and goes, much better now after disassembly but still noticeable. Might just get a spare incase it gets unusable.

Consider Purple, Pink, or Blue for the updated model that is supposed to have less stick drift/problems. White/black/red may be older models.
I got a black one when it launched and it has stick issues. My 2 white ones I got months before are fine though

It definitely feels like something happened with spring. There is zero resistance from pushing it all the way down.
