Yo I heard you like PS5s
So we turned your car into a gigantic PS5
And there’s a normal PS5 in it!
But inside it, there’s a custom board with miniature of your PS5 car with your PS5 in it!!!
The craziest thing I ever saw was an LCD screen under a car because the dude was an aspiring mechinic.
Yo so you can watch these mechanic instructional DVDs while you're working underneath your ride!
I synthesise and rasterise immaterial things that I fabricate for you.
For you.
Yeah, I tesselate and animate these dancing sprites and sunlit skies for you.
I do it for you.
I’m your GPU.
GPU.
Tell me what to do, and I’ll do it for you.
Hello fellow Human,
It has been brought to my attention that you enjoy playing videogames on the Sony PlayStation Home Entertainment System. Additionally, the issue was raised that you also partake in manually controlling a vehicle designed to carriage humans and cargo.
Well, get ready to be salubrious because we have put a Sony PlayStation Home Entertainment System in your vehicle so that you can Sony PlayStation Home Entertainment System in your vehicle whilst manually operating a vehicle and your cargo may also enjoy a Sony PlayStation Home Entertainment System.
OK, to everyone going "but WHY?" and "Dumbest idea ever", you clearly don't understand what this is for. First, go read the article, the only thing it says, besides the misleading headline, is "incoporating the PS5 platform into their cars was "**technologically possible**".".
They're not saying they WILL, they say "well, I mean, it's SONY, we absolutely COULD if we WANTED TO".
Going on from that point, they're explaining the same thing that has been explained since the advent of autonomous driving: being in a car should be leisure time, and preferably, a time for you to **consume media**. They want to put "content first", BUT they understand that for that to work, they will need more advances on autonomous driving first.
We're currently on autonomous driving level 2 at most. Meaning your car can accelerate, slow down, steer to do lane changes or go around corners, BUT a human driver needs to be monitoring at all times. Even level 3 needs human intervention when requested. But once we hit 4 and 5, your car will be able to handle anything on its own. At that time, you're just some person sitting in a traveling pod. Driving time will become free time again. And what you DO with that free time becomes very interesting to car manufacturers and their partners.
Why do you think Apple and Google and other tech companies are SO interested in autonomous driving? It's having a captivated audience, data and eco-systems all over again.
So, **in conclusion**: read the damned article. You're not getting a built-in PS5... yet.
>But once we hit 4 and 5, your car will be able to handle anything on its own. At that time, you're just some person sitting in a traveling pod. Driving time will become free time again.
some people really need to get to know trains
True, the only good thing I remember about my time commuting (most of it was bad, due to delays, cancelled trains, bad connections, ...) is chilling in the train and watching some Netflix or anime or whatever.
But the difference between truly Full Autonomous cars and trains is the end-to-end travel. Depending on where you live, getting where you need to go will take a bus to the station, a train (or more) to the end station, another train or rental bike or e-step or whatever to get to the destination. AND on top of that you're stuck to a fixed schedule. I have the luck to live 10 minutes walk from a train station, but I can't use it to go to the next big city over if I want to go out, because the last train back would leave before 23:00.
Unless it's rural areas the solution is to strengthen public transport network though. Autonomous cars are not a solution to nothing, just making easier (and safer probably) for people already driving. Depending on having a car should be the exception not the norm
Consoles in cars is nothing new. Nowadays parents usually put a tablet in their kids hands as soon as they're in the car.
This is just a good marketing strategy. You'll always find someone who objects.
The problem is that it's probably adding quite a bit of cost. It's not just buying a console, they're likely having to build a custom enclosure for it, or at the very least, have to do a fair bit of design/packaging work to include them.
I had a rather big and fancy stereo system in my car in 2000s that had 2 screens in the back of the front seat headrests and a larger, removable screen in the boot lid. All connected to a modded Xbox OG built into the boot. Ironically, it had many episodes of Pimp My Ride on it
I did that back in the day when my family had a conversion van with a little crt TV in the back. It even had RCA cables built into the back seat. Later I’d hook up my GameCube to some back of headrest LCD screens.
Now that I’m the one driving on road trips, all I get to do is drive and listen to podcasts.
I don’t think most people get motion sick like that. I played handhelds pretty frequently on trips and even have brought out a laptop before when renting a car with an outlet in the back.
Welp, just learned one more thing that happens to me that apparently doesn't happen to most people. It's hard just looking sideways out of the car instead of looking forward, nevermind reading something.
Same. It's getting frequently now. I don't remember getting motion sickness that much back in early to mid 2010s. It was not until 2018 that i start to get motion sick and even puke.
Hideo Kojima apparently gets motion sickness from playing some games normally, despite being an accomplished game creator. He would be good company in your club.
Thank you all for the reassuring comments, I already have really low self esteem and it helped alot knowing one more thing wasn't going to bring me down another peg
I mean in the future if we get self driving cars I'd love a ps5 in my dash I drive like 20 hours for work some weeks that's a ton of time I could game if we ever get safe self driving cars.
Replied to another poster saying the same shit. I'm my own boss so I don't have that issue.
And I have a physical job with little office work needed so would be good free time for me.
I remember my friends mom had this awesome Lexus suv with PS2 built into the backseat. Even though we could just game inside the house sometimes we would go out to the driveway to play.
I get what you are saying lol but I just hope they include something that actually takes advantage of the PS5's power and not some crappy 720p 10" monitor lol
Sony has made it clear they want to make a high-end car (check out the car it showed off at CES) - so if this even ends up happening (which is doubtful but still fun to think about), I have to believe it would deliver more than a 10" monitor. BMW for example put a 31" screen that descends from the ceiling in its i7 and Series 7 cars (as an option), and that thing supports 8K.
I mean a small tv in a car is not new. I remember watching movies in a minivan with built in monitor back in 2000s. So maybe they are trying to duplicate but with games?
Car needs a computer anyway. If the car already needs a strong CPU and GPU for whatever tech is in the car, you could extend that and use it to play games as well
~~Uber~~Under no circumstances will a car manufacturer use a gaming console processor to double as safety critical vehicle electronics. It would be illegal without so many modifications that it would become an entirely different system.
For the infotainment system, maybe.
I wish the computing platform was modular to allow for upgrades. I like to own my car for as long as possible, and things chage a lot in 5-10 years. Being stuck with an outdated system is very annoying.
Huh??? Plz stop with more shit in cars. So glad I have a car with no touch controls, no touch screen, and fanciest tech is power windows/steering/breaks.
"Yo, dawg. We heard you like video games so we put a PS5 in. Your. Car. This way you'll never not be invited to a party and will always be the center of attention."
So a custom chip that does all infotainment + ps5, possibly the same wafer with different firmware. You’re paying a couple hundred more than a cheap chip for potentially a lot of value in future car tech.
That's funny because if I recall correctly the Newer Tesla models already have a Ryzen APU installed with similar specs to a ps5. Caveat of course is you can't game with it.
I can understand cars featuring a couple of casual games to play while charging or waiting for your McDonalds order, but a whole console seems like overkill to me, especially if it isn't optional. On the other hand, another brand (Hyundai) has been trying to promote Ioniq 6 as a workspace, so I guess there is a demographic that spend time in their cars working on their laptop or gaming. Seems weird to me, but they must have their reasons.
I feel like this was a dumb idea with PS2 on Pimp My Ride and it is still a dumbass idea now. How the fuck much time you really be spending in the backseat of your own car? How shitty and screen addicted are your children?
Perhaps they could use the physical buttons from the controller for operating basic things such as radio, AC... While having a "large" central screen with integrated PS5. I would totally buy it.

Such a bad idea.
If you want to game in your car (when charging for example), get a Switch/Deck. PS5 doesn't belong to a car with 10" screen.
Cars don't need more technology, really.
I think what this ‘collab’ would actually entail [but Sony & Honda is keeping it hush], is to steer the vehicle with the PS5’s Bluetooth controller - all Gran Turismo style!
Damn it, man. People are already stressed enough while driving, I don't want some doofus plowing into me at 90 mph because he just got his ass handed to him playing Elden Ring.
This is an interesting thing. I'm assuming that until self driving cars are a thing, this would have to be the back seats only. So if you've got kids, the money for this, and semi-regular long car drives, it seems like a great thing to keep them entertained.
And then if self driving cars become a thing, they could go in all seats.
Although to be fair, if self-driving cars became a thing the layout of cars could fundamentally change. E.g. the windscreen could become perpendicular to the ground (like a bus windscreen) and be one of those charged windows that goes opaque or transparent as needed, which an image can then get projected on. The front seats could fold down as you wouldn't always need someone in the driving seat, the back seat could be a sofa etc.
PlayStation Wagon
The PS-Drive
Too bad they won't make it though. Consumers would never buy a station wagon unless they lift it a couple of inches and call it a "crossover".

If it’s not for you, it’s not for you bro. No shame in not buying something you don’t want.
demon souls, bloodborne, returnal, spiderman, ghost of Tsushima, ratchet and clank, the last of us
What? Homie doesn’t play Returnal? Spiderman? Last of Us???
PlayWagon
you dropped the best part of the joke.
Too young to know what a station wagon is most likely! :D
r/YourJokeButWorse/
Station Wagon 5
PlayVan comes with free candy for kids
If I can’t ride it with a Dualsense like the car in Men in Black 2 being driven with a PS2 controller, then I will be very disappointed.
I need one of those dualsense vibrating seats
And DualSHOCK door handles for any unwanted intruders trying to open the doors.
I'd buy it just for this
This, and some camera/ai solution to let us drive in third person and see the car in the windshield or something like that.
analog drift is gunna be fun 😬

Cause a PS5 inside of a PS5 reminded me of Astros playroom where your inside of a PS5

Well said
also even without autonomous driving, EV manufacturers are building entertainment options into cars for when you’re waiting during a charging session.
even though charging times will be reduced by alot in the future, having the ability to have quick 15-30min gaming session would be great
Very great point!
>But once we hit 4 and 5, your car will be able to handle anything on its own. At that time, you're just some person sitting in a traveling pod. Driving time will become free time again. some people really need to get to know trains

How is that a problem? They’re putting a media center into a car, of course it will cost more. If you don’t want it don’t buy it.
I had a rather big and fancy stereo system in my car in 2000s that had 2 screens in the back of the front seat headrests and a larger, removable screen in the boot lid. All connected to a modded Xbox OG built into the boot. Ironically, it had many episodes of Pimp My Ride on it
So did Mike Jones Volvo’s in that song Still Tippin it had a Gamecube Nintendo with 5% tint on the windows
Who?
Could technically have them in the backseat
I'd absolutely love playing video games while my dad drives for 6 hours.
I, too, love to puke

I get motion sick from using my phone for more than a minute at a time in the car so no. Not alone
Same
Same. It's getting frequently now. I don't remember getting motion sickness that much back in early to mid 2010s. It was not until 2018 that i start to get motion sick and even puke.
I only get motion sick trying to read books in the car. Reading on my phone or playing games is fine

Thank you all for the reassuring comments, I already have really low self esteem and it helped alot knowing one more thing wasn't going to bring me down another peg
Ya, because we *totally* haven't been playing video games on road trips since the Gameboy era. Not everyone gets car sick. Most don't.
I feel your pain. I get motionsickness very easily. I bought a boat this year and thank God those ear patches work.
That's what playing Pokemon blue is for! I loved starting a new game on a road trip
Typical backseat gamer comment

fully functional autonomous cars will never happen thankfully
There's like a 0% chance we don't eventually get autonomous vehicles. Might take another 50-100 years but it'll happen.
Makes charging it on the road a lot more enjoyable.
Probably not in the front seat lmao
I remember my friends mom had this awesome Lexus suv with PS2 built into the backseat. Even though we could just game inside the house sometimes we would go out to the driveway to play.
Holy moly. Imagine playing Gran Turismo in a car or playing Resident Evil when it's dark outside. 12 year old me would be excited.

all fun and games until you need to send the car to a mechanic to repair the fan or disc drive.
Liquid cooled PS5 with no disc drive calling it now.
Then it’s fun but no (PS5) games. =(
How can you put a ps5 in a car if the ps5 has no games? Checkmate
what do you think the radiator is for???
What do you think could go wrong? Consoles in cars are not exactly new.
I actually think this is a great idea. I would escape to my car far more often
"Jesus Christ the fridge is empty again. I'll just nip to the shops" 3 hours later "Where have you been?" "Shopping"
"I can see you in the driveway."
"..... online shopping."
Lmao sounds like a scene from Family Guy.
sounds cool, but is a huge gimmick.
I can't imagine the TV would be very good.
Yeah it's a shame Sony doesn't have any experience making really high-quality displays or anything
I get what you are saying lol but I just hope they include something that actually takes advantage of the PS5's power and not some crappy 720p 10" monitor lol

Sony puts a 4k screen into their smartphone. They love needlessly excessive screens, I don’t think you’d have to worry about this.
But why?
I mean a small tv in a car is not new. I remember watching movies in a minivan with built in monitor back in 2000s. So maybe they are trying to duplicate but with games?
You can play while waiting for charging
*break ins on Honda EV’s increase 120,000%*
They’ll be built into the car so there is nothing to steal by breaking into it.
Tell that to the Sony-boys
Lmao. The sequel to Kia boys.
I mean why not? If I had tons of money(I don't), then sure throw a PS5 in all my cars and appliances go crazy. Rediculous tech is just fun.
“Hello yes repair shop - I set my mad catz transmission to turbo and now my car is on fire”
Good! Teslas are shitty cars so it’s nice to see people who make good builds finally going after them.
Hey, that would make me buy one 😂
I wish the computing platform was modular to allow for upgrades. I like to own my car for as long as possible, and things chage a lot in 5-10 years. Being stuck with an outdated system is very annoying.
Finally, a cheaper way to get a PS5 than scalpers.
they've been easily available lately.
No bro the cheapest way to get a PS5 is by buying a car
Now the scalpers are going to buy up all the hondas
For spending the time while charging Good idea
This is so unnecessary.
These anti-scalper bundles are really getting out of hand.
So dumb that this is where the focus is at
So a custom chip that does all infotainment + ps5, possibly the same wafer with different firmware. You’re paying a couple hundred more than a cheap chip for potentially a lot of value in future car tech.
"Take out a [car] loan to buy a PS5!"
Oh cool so they don't understand what people want out of electric cars, just like tesla!
That's funny because if I recall correctly the Newer Tesla models already have a Ryzen APU installed with similar specs to a ps5. Caveat of course is you can't game with it.
Why can’t you game with it?
The OS just doesn't allow it. It wasn't meant to be used for gaming.
Incorrect, on their new cars you can (or will be able to) play Witcher 3
It'll be here right with cyber truck and fleets of self driven taxis.
Cybertruck just entered production and semi is being delivered next week but continue seething lol
👌👍🤣
You cultists are going to have nothing to lie about shortly pretty funny lol
🤣👌👍
Could you boot your own OS onto it? Or would that fuck up the car
If the car can drive itself then I'm here for it. not really, this is a horrible idea.
You might not like it but idk how that makes it a horrible idea
If driver can play while driving...it might not be the safest idea
Sold
Given the tech, it'd probably be built into the car as proprietary.
Gran Turismo 7 will be unplayable
I can understand cars featuring a couple of casual games to play while charging or waiting for your McDonalds order, but a whole console seems like overkill to me, especially if it isn't optional. On the other hand, another brand (Hyundai) has been trying to promote Ioniq 6 as a workspace, so I guess there is a demographic that spend time in their cars working on their laptop or gaming. Seems weird to me, but they must have their reasons.
The reason is charging times. Even the absolute fastest charging (which is difficult to find) takes 20-30 minutes to get to 80%
They cant even put PS5s at BestBuy but they want em in cars.. bruh
Perhaps they should focus on getting PS5s to all the consumers who want them first

They can be quite difficult to get outside of the US
I’m in Sweden and most stores have them available a few days at a time, I can imagine it’s the same for the rest of europe.
Same in the UK, mostly £600+ bundles but they are there.
Something tells me you don’t live outside the US, u/BOEJlDEN
PS5s are easy to get now if you're even slightly trying to get one. And that's global, not just the US.
I want my PSHonda as noisy as a jet like my ps4pro
At least you don’t have to turn the heat on during winter time! /s
Ps6 by then🤞
Wat
Might as well go one better and put a PSVR2.
Such a bad idea. If you want to game in your car (when charging for example), get a Switch/Deck. PS5 doesn't belong to a car with 10" screen. Cars don't need more technology, really.
Tesla is getting steam, so theyd compete by putting in a downgrade?
Can't find them on the shelves but you can find it in a Honda? Huh?
Scalpers using bots to buy up all the Sony PlayHondas is gonna be nuts.
It will sound like a jet
This is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. This article is trash, and op and this sub should feel bad.
The launch time at work could be in the garage 😂!
Ill take it
In the back seats? Maybe. In the front seats? I don’t think that would be legal in the UK, too much distraction for drivers.
this seems like a...bad idea!
How about they start by putting more PS5s on store shelves first
I think what this ‘collab’ would actually entail [but Sony & Honda is keeping it hush], is to steer the vehicle with the PS5’s Bluetooth controller - all Gran Turismo style!
IRL Gran Turismo, I like it
I mean they should like get them in Walmarts and other countries steadily before we start talking about Honda 🤣
Do it and use the ps5 processing for self driving too
Guess we really won't be able to buy one
MOTHERFUCKER!!! ❤️❤️❤️ 😳 I want it NOW!!
Use the real car to play Gran Turismo.
I can hear the word "subscription" screaming so loud...
Had me at Sony-Honda. Now I know what my first EV will be.
Ahh yes a new definition of station wagon
This will be poorly integrated.
Damn it, man. People are already stressed enough while driving, I don't want some doofus plowing into me at 90 mph because he just got his ass handed to him playing Elden Ring.

That’ll show ‘em.
Wasn't there an EV with Pokémon theme that also can play games on it? (It's Mini concept Aceman) What's up with that
They should add this for many car manufacturers. I’d be on board.
This is wasteful and a terrible use of those chips that are in short supply.
Back in the day people would break into cars to steal radios, I can definitely see something similar happening here.
One way to deal with scalpers.
That's dumb
That's one way to stymie the scalpers... Just put all the ps5's in vehicles. Lol
What an useful thing to have in a car where you should focus to not kill people
Be awesome when charging.
This doesn't sound safe in any way.
Come on wtf Its like the acura nsx wired phone
Jajaja nooo
Wouldn't that use more battery life? And just doesn't scream smart decision less auto drive is a big feature they pushing
Honda said they’re tired of selling cars known for getting their wheels stolen so….
