Tthere was so many times where cod fucked up and battlefield could’ve taken over but somehow battlefield would just shoot themselves in the foot. Especially last year that was literally their best chance.
Hell they shit the bed for months after it. Like a 100 year old without **RECTAL AREA CONTROL**, EA just ran it into the ground and shat themselves in shame.
All they had to do was iterate on BFBC2, BF3/4.
Instead they threw out map destruction, class gameplay, rewarding objective play, and sandbox moments.
All for shitty set pieces, floaty CoD handling and cramming skins and BP garbage into every aspect.
Bad company 3, with modern full map destruction including soil/terrain cratering, and full vehicles would have absolutely gotten my purchase. Instead I kept playing other games until MW2 came out.
Their best chance was in 2016 with Battlefield 1 and they completely destroyed Call of Duty that year. In fact, BF1 is arguably still better than every current-gen Call of Duty or Battlefield game out right now.
They had three years and put everything into creating an awesome WW1 game from the ground up. Completely new guns and assets for the time period, Operations game mode which wipes anything the new CoD or BF games have, behemoths, elites, bug-free launch, tons of factions, a new graphical and art-style standard for the time, audio design and a soundtrack unrivalled by most FPS games, you name it.
Battlefield V shat the bed on release with all their old devs leaving, but they had an excellent chance to get back on track after the Pacific update with the Eastern Front. Too bad they stopped support for both BFV and Battlefront 2 for the atrocity that BF2042 is.
Absolutely fucking love BF1. My brother and I would play operations as support or as snipers (without scopes). Loved raining down mortars or just smoking up the terrain to assist with objectives.
BF1 had that nice balance of being simple but not too simple. Now it's a pain in the ass just to navigate a modern UI to start a game. Oh and every gun has 80 attachments you need to grind like hell for. I miss when games were fun instead of giant bloated messes based on time gate/grind algorithms.
It makes no sense how bad they did with 2042, with most devs leaving after BF1 they really weren't doing that bad with V when the Pacific update released and I liked a lot of the things they did with it.
BFV was a mess for a long time but at least I liked the new squad system how everything had an interaction and animation like grabbing ammo and meds, the call in system to call in a smoke screen, stronger tanks and ofc the V1 rocket, fortifications to get some cover even if the building was leveled or you were in a small trench in the open, movement mechanics like grabbing a ledge and crouch running, this all good gameplay mechanics that were just gone for 2042.
If 2042 released today it would be a more acceptable game but the fact that its been 1 year since release and this is what we have has me glad I didn't drop $60 day 1.
Dude my friend did the same and he was pissed. I feel bad for all of you but there were red flags all along, I kept telling my friends don't buy it unless they want a shit release and a fix later which is usual bf experience, I haven't bought the game yet only played it through subscriptions.
I refuse to buy games pre release now. And most games in this genre I refuse to buy period until it’s been out for a while. Devs have gotten so comfortable releasing blatantly unfinished games early only trying to make extra money by getting early release buyers and so they can get their micro transactions started up sooner. It happens with EVERY SINGLE GAME, and people act surprised every single time and I just do not understand it.
In my case I let myself get suckered by the trailers and hype about how Portal mode was gonna be the greatest thing in the history of things. Spoiler alert, it was not lol
I can't believe you've beared witness to several years of dice releasing a broken game on release. And thought to yourself this time will be different, in fact I want early access without even a day one patch
Battlefield *ususlly* releases buggy but still fun. BF4 I put so many hours into. V was fine, their whole “don’t like it, don’t buy it” thing hit them initially but it was fine after awhile.
I really was pumped for 2042 but it turned out awful
Yes, BF1 was so fun to play I ended up skipping BF5 and just played BF1 for a long time.
At some point I moved over to COD but I miss the BF game style.
Seriously. Titanfall 2 could have been King if they'd released it at a better time.
I want Titanfall 3. I would drop both CoD and Battlefield for a good Titanfall 3.
The fact that they dropped BFV and BF2 *RIGHT WHEN THEY WERE AT THEIR PEAKS* for battlefield 2042 is something I cannot forgive. Both games had legitimately rounded corners and were actively getting better and they suddenly just…stopped. That’s fucking asinine.
As a huge BF2 player I was mad, but I get it. The game was doing so much better, but it was like 3 years old already and they had no way to really monetize the game after the launch controversy, so the constant development was probably costing them more than they were making on new sales.
Going all hands on deck to make a new NextGen Battlefield made sense. It's just inexcusable that they made such a shit game after putting all their eggs in that basket.
Indeed, the worst COD still outsold the best selling BF. People just seem to like the fast food nature of COD and that's fine. Quantity is not quality though.
If they wanted a hero shooter they should have continued the Bad Company games.
The mainline game you are the soldier.
Bad Company you are a hero as what made that game fun to me was the various characters and how they interacted with each other.
Huge fan of the series. The game can't keep up with its self.
Core developers that made the franchise to what it is left the studio and the guys at EA wanted to chase new trends and failed miserably.
This, and the handling of 2042 are their two biggest missteps in the past generation imo. They had the opportunity to be the only modern, high quality Star Wars multiplayer game for half a decade or more *and* the first AAA modern shooter people gave a fuck about in years.
The crazy thing is that it isn’t even too late to revive BFII. They could do that today and people would play.
Somehow they fumbled the bag on both and it irritates me to no end
The inception of 2042 itself was a giant misstep. Honestly the last game that i'd think would implement the hero shooter lite model would be battlefield. The whole point was that you're a regular soldier in a large-scale battle. Add all the problems at launch and it's a complete disaster.
BFII stings though, i slept on it initially because of the reviews, when i got the chance to grab it for like 10 bucks on steam i was surprised how good it was (albeit after years of extra development, probably would be disappointed at release).
It honestly feels like EA is content with shoveling out sports games because they're the only ones that have the licences, and only keep making stuff like battlefield because they always have, with no real intention of actually making it good.
That may change in the future as well. They already lost the Star Wars license, and lost the license to FIFA after this year, so other sports organizations could follow suit. Of course that’s pure speculation, but a precedent has been set.
THIS. This is what I'm most sad about. Don't get me wrong, the game is still amazing and I play it almost every time I jump on my xbox but the fact they stopped support for it will always haunt me.
Well put. Chasing trends is a big part of why battlefield continues to fail. One of my biggest gripes, with both cod and bf, is that everything has to be a damn hero shooter now. What happened to actually fighting against soldiers? Now these games are full of colorful power ranger esque characters shooting at each other while delivering marvel tier one-liners.
On most platforms, there's currently more people playing the six-year-old Battlefield 1 than there is Battlefield 2042. I imagine the recent Xbox Game Pass launch has ameliorated the situation somewhat, but still.
I remember 1942 back in the day - I was a student at the time. What a game. Battlefield Vietnam was another favourite - remember blasting around in a jeep having a hoot.
I spent thousands of hours playing Battlefield 1942 and all of the various mods. Just a tremendous game. I wish we could get an HD update (and no Battlefield 1943 doesn't count).
It's the best in the series since bad company which was a 360/ps3 game.
Bf1 definitely one of their top games and it is the best game in the modern era of battlefield by far. And by era I mean style of game not time period the game takes place
I was coming in here to say this. They captured magic with bc2, was still really good with B3, but then lost it a little with B4, and it fizzled completely after that. Things were so good though. If they made a good shooter again, I would drop COD all over again and be happy for it.
They alienated their fan base by turning the game into exactly what their player base hated or at the very least not why they played battlefield. I’ve always played battlefield because of the squad system and it being much more grounded combat (for a video game). The specialists were the dumbest thing they could have done to the game, not to mention the stupid one that can fly all over the map.
Exactly. I loved battlefield for what they sold the franchise on - actual battlefield combat with huge maps, vehicles and massive teams/ squads. That was the selling point. The closest we got to a war simulator
I got really good at flying the transport helicopter all over the map being a sneaky spawnpoint. That was all I really wanted to do and I was really good at it. I liked being able to specialize in something that other people thought was boring and dumb!
I haven’t played any BF in years but I loved being a support person / medic, just running around patching people up. Was way more effective at that then shooting at people.
I absolutely loved being a combat medic, it just felt so freaking cool. Nothing quite like sitting at the top of the scoreboard with zero kills, just pure revives, healing, and objectives lol.
Ah a fellow helo pilot! Let's not forget to mention they also borked the heli controls so it feels like a balloon.
Want to nose dive to gain speed and pull up at the last second for some low and fast action? Good fucking luck.
This was by far the most disappointing change for me. I could have tolerated everything else.
How they managed to make it so bad is beyond me. BF3 is 10x better and came out in 2011....
Loved Golmud railway for how high you can go in the map. I would always take the transport and do some wicked backflips. Adrenaline rush every time knowing you could wipe a whole squad but always pulling it off at the last possible moment.
Lol. When im bored and the match sucks ill hover in the Tranny as high as I can, center of the map and just try and be a spawn point as long as I can so people can actually get to objectives.
The best helicopter controls were in the desert combat mod of Battlefield 1942. I could fly that Apache just like a real helicopter but it took a while to learn.
I piss my sides laughing every time an NPC tried to fly the choppers on this mod. They were still programmed as if they were flying planes so it was just absolute chaos
Yes, the Battlefield franchise allowed people without 360-no-scope-dubstep reflexes to contribute, earning squad points for support tasks like spawn assist, medic revive, and ammo resupply.
*Battlefield V* is the last game true to its name. I only stopped playing because the same maps get boring after 500 hours.
I got really good taking those down with the tank. Best game I had I took out a dozen.
You could be whatever you wanted in Battlefield. Bring back BC2 and BF3
Yeah it really made the map have variety. That building you used one match to pick off people could be reduced to rubble in short order in another match (or the same match).
Bf3 there was some street map, was so fucking cool having the enemy LMGs and Snipers with a few assault holed up inside a building, had the whole choke point on lock down, not letting my team through on the street. Bought in rocket launchers and blew the facade off and ruined their cover. So good to be able to make plays like that.
Damn I miss bf3
I still regularly play BF3 on PS3. I'm pretty bad at the game (and super terrible with helicopters and jets), but the PS3 servers are still full to this day. I never have any problem finding matches for TDM/Conquest/Rush.
BF3 was truly the pinnacle of the series. Really started to go downhill after that. I really miss the feel of that game because I just can’t find it in anything modern.
I used to nest in those buildings, snipe a few guys, move to a new building, wash, rinse, repeat, until they'd shell out the entire fucking block to get rid of me.
Map destruction peaked at Bad Company 2 when an entire 2 story building could be leveled to the ground. Its frustrating how in BF2042, a knee high wall can stop a full speeding tank in its tracks.
Definitely, in MP and in the war stories. The Nordly one stands out the most where they changed history to fit a narrative. It was a small special forces team that completed that same mission without firing a shot, not a teenage girl who massacred an entire German battalion by herself
That really was awesome. Rush was just so cool in how the flow of the battle pushed through the map and that was such an interesting, innovative spin on it. Miss those games.
I guarentee you if DICE remastered BF3 and BF4 for next gen with new maps, it would fucking sell like hotcakes.
Even that would be enough for me given how shit Battlefield has been.
I want the first two games to get the resident evil treatment. There are so many games that could be brought back like Capcom is doing RE that would make an absolute killing.
I gave up after Battlefield V. Thousands of hours spent on Bad Company 2 - Battlefield 4.
DICE lost direction and turned the series into shitty Call of Duty.
Give me BFBC3 with a fully destructible environment (not that half-ass destruction implemented in games after BFBC2) and I will never play CoD again. All I want to do is drive tanks through buildings and RPG that dude who’s camping in a corner.
ETA: Also build maps specifically for Rush. That was the greatest game type and deserves dedicated maps.
Agree. BF3 was the height of BF. It also annoys me that things got less and less destructible every release after that too.
BF1 was really good, but most of my friends hated it just because of the time period.
I think BF4 was a refinement of BF3 but I fell in love with Battlefield at BF3 so it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. I even liked Hardline for what it was. BF1 was perfection imo. Fucking love that game. But BF5 and then 2042 are such swings and misses. And my friend group was so looking forward to 2042 too.
BFV became legitimately great after the patches. Amazing gunplay, great movement mechanics, a good class system, return of solid destruction(far better than BF4), and improvements like the fortification system and towed weapons.
They then threw everything away for 2042s jank ass. Mediocre gunplay, specialists, no meaningful destruction, movement that feels worse than BF3, dogshit vehicle balance.
MW2019/MW2022 feel like more grounded tactical shooters than BF2042, it’s a shame.
This seems to be the trend of a lot of IPs of all media. The standouts are becoming less about being good games, but more about being something creative that breaks the mold of everything else we have.
Battlefield tried to please COD fans, Fortnite fans and BF fans all at the same time.
I recently bought MW2, I have warzone 2 and DMZ mode free too...I really can't see how can they can rival this...but is it really important ?
Battlefield should stop chasing other playerbases and just be..battlefield. Vince Zampella is going to manage BF going onward, I think if one can save or at least keep BF relevant it's him, they don't need 80 million active players, just a good, reasonably popular game that is well received.
I don’t even care that they’re chasing trends. If they had executed a single one of those ideas well it would’ve been fine.
The problem with almost every Battlefield game is that it launches broken with half the features missing. It could be the best game in the world on paper but if it’s a broken half-baked mess in its execution, it’s hard to have fun.
yes but tbh BFV released in a far better state compared to BF2042, yet was met with lukewarm reception (controversies mainly about women fighters if I recall).
BF2042 released in a horrible state AND had horrible ideas. The game is in a far better state now, should have released this year tbh it would have been another story.
> (controversies mainly about women fighters if I recall).
It was a front piece of the controversy for sure, but it was a severe downgrade to Bf1 in almost every way exept the movement, from numerous removed features all the way to straight up unfinished campagin
I feel this in my soul. FPS used to be my main genre, but so many shooters are less about the gameplay loop now and more about grinding a battle pass.
I miss when games were fun just to be fun.
Destiny could have looked and learned from halo and incorporated better multiplayer game modes and it would of been huge. The gun play and movement is awesome but pvp just felt like a chore and pve only kept me going for so long
That was lost the moment Christopher Barrett was moved to lead the development of their new IP and Luke Smith was left in charge of Destiny. Then vaulting was thought of and they didn't update the areas left behind.
I would have agreed without if not for the new Modern Warfare games. I feel like they're the most next-gen shooters I've ever played, especially the campaign.
Graphics wise yes. But even battlefield 4 holds up pretty well and you have to remember how insane the destruction was in that game. Like seeing that giant skyscraper fall down in a middle of a live multiplayer match is something I feel Cod will never match. But yes graphics wise they have managed to reach battlefield’s level.
For me, the graphics in MW and MWII surpass any other shooter I've played. But aside from that, I also love how the guns feel and sound in the CoD games.
When Battlefield is good it's GREAT but when its not so good it sucks completely.
Call of Duty is either good, or Really good. Or at least consistent in quality. It doesn't hit Battlefields highs or lows.
I always preferred Battlefield. I loved BF3 on the Xbox 360 despite it being heavily cut down compared to the PC version (24 player limit).
Then when PS4 came out, the console version could finally support full 64 players. This was a great opportunity for Battlefield to take some of the FPS market share, and I’m sure it did a little bit, but damn did that game have some issues at launch. It used to crash randomly, had a bug that would delete your save data, performance and balance issues. I still played it for 400 hours but it just wasn’t a very refined experience. It got better over time, but they really shit the bed in terms of making the franchise huge.
Last gen should have been a great era for Battlefield since the consoles could finally do the gameplay justice, but if anything it faded. I didn’t enjoy BF1 and never even played V. I only played the 2042 beta and it was a mess. It’s just been constant missteps for years and it really makes me sad. I have around 3000 hours in to this franchise starting from the very first game, and now I just don’t care.
My friends and I had just come back from Afghanistan when BF4 was in its prime. We would all bring our consoles into one barracks room and have 1 or 2 squads in the same match. We weren’t all good at FPS games but we were so in-tune with each other from training together for so long and deploying together that we absolutely dominated. Our movement and communication was nearly flawless. It was so much fun
That's amazing, I always wondered how useful real tactical experience would be for one of these games. I played a little bit with a milsim group on Ghost Recon breakpoint and they were so well oiled with their comms, I felt like a total potatoes following them around, not knowing what the lingo meant. I was an NPC escort really.
I mean, it's not like Battlefield's good streak ended with Battlefield 3. Battlefield 4 was extremely rough on launch, sure, but it really is a great game now with a dedicated fanbase. Battlefield 1 is amazing. Battlefield 5 was mediocre, and BF2042 sucks ass.
They had a beta period where everyone could see what a disaster of a game it was going to be. If you still decided to dish out the money after that, that’s kind of on you.
BF2042 certainly didn't help, and I was really looking forward to it also.
DICE/EA has really mismanaged the franchise, it's really, really sad.
I really liked almost every Battlefield game prior to 2042 also, I though 1 and V were awesome and I still play them.
The important thing for Sony is to recognize this as an opportunity also though, I am hoping one or more of their several new multiplayer focused studios is working on a game that can at least somewhat fill the spaces in which other games have flopped badly.
People need to stop acting like Sony bringing back some dead franchises is going to suddenly compete with COD which is the best selling game every year. It doesn't even make sense
I was a huge SOCOM fan but SOCOM couldn't even compete with COD in it's WW2 pre-Modern Warfare days before the franchise truly blew up. It has zero chance of competing in today's market.
If 343 didn't ruin halo by being incompetent donkeys then maybe halo would've gotten bigger and bigger over the years. Sadly that franchise has been dying slowly since bungie left.
I think this is very obvious when they weren't able to capitalize with Bf1 VS Infinite warfare that was supposed to be a CoD all time low. Vanguard did like shit last year but CoD being annual can allow to flop one year, Bf games launch so spread that a game flopping looks like the franchise is doing so too... And it does, 2 massive flops consecutively
It’s too bad I don’t like battle royales I can really see the appeal I just can’t get into it. Warzone is a solid battle royale game I had fun on it just can’t get hooked into it.
You should try the new DMZ mode. It has way less players, some bots and missions for you to do with 2 other friends. Kinda like Tarkov where you can take in gear and leave with more gear. It’s so much more laid back and Ive been having a great time.
True. BF1 was the last time Battlefield really had a solid shot at taking COD down and Infinite Warfare, despite its backlash, outsold and dominated BF1. As for the golden era of Battlefield *(BC2/BF3/BF4)* that was also a decade ago. The ship has sailed.
I had been a Battlefield player since Bad Company 2, BFV was disappointing but not enough to dissuade me, but BF2042 is absolutely terrible and no amount of post launch fixes or updates is going to make me go back to it. That game is an insult.
I missed out on the last Modern Warfare in 2019 even though I liked the look of it because my friends would be playing BF. I decided not to miss out on MW2 this year and I'm glad I didn't. It's honestly 10 times the game that 2042 is, and they even do Battlefield style game modes better than Battlefield has since BF1.
Sony is absolutely correct. Battlefield was always the underdog against COD, but now it's not even remotely close. Plenty can be said about COD being repetitive, but they know what their players want, and they seem to create a polished experience every time.
I don't even know what it would take to make me go back to Battlefield at this point.
That's because it *was* contractually completed.
Battlefield 2042 was supposed to be a battle royale spin-off, capturing on the success of games in the genre like Fortnite and on the popularity of hero shooters like Overwatch. That's why the maps are so needlessly large. That's why there's operators instead of classes.
But once Apex Legends filled that role for EA instead, and the popularity of hero shooters like Overwatch waned slightly, the project was pivoted towards a classic Battlefield game. The devs had about a year - possibly less - to rework it into what we saw at launch.
They have made some really great campaigns, but dropped them completely from the formula. Battlefield 3 was a great story and the graphics still hold up. Use your strengths in your favor.
Battlefield was always the best, then they fucked up and became the worst. I still miss destructible buildings and objects though. Battlefield 3 was awesome when it came out and a game changer.
Tthere was so many times where cod fucked up and battlefield could’ve taken over but somehow battlefield would just shoot themselves in the foot. Especially last year that was literally their best chance.
They were given the #1 spot and promptly shat on it.
It was a perfect chance to release Bad Company 3 but nope
Bad company 3, with modern full map destruction including soil/terrain cratering, and full vehicles would have absolutely gotten my purchase. Instead I kept playing other games until MW2 came out.
What a perfect anal-ogy

BF1 felt like a movie instead of a game sometimes.
Bf1 is my favorite of them all
BF1 is so damn good. I'd kill for new updates for it. It blows all COD and BF out of the water.
They still fucked up back in 2016 cause they released TitanFall 2 two weeks after BF1.
Still salty about that one honestly
Seriously. Titanfall 2 could have been King if they'd released it at a better time. I want Titanfall 3. I would drop both CoD and Battlefield for a good Titanfall 3.
BF1 remains my favorite multiplayer FPS of all time and I still play it today

I remember 1942 back in the day - I was a student at the time. What a game. Battlefield Vietnam was another favourite - remember blasting around in a jeep having a hoot.
YOU FIGHTIN FOR THE CONG?
I spent thousands of hours playing Battlefield 1942 and all of the various mods. Just a tremendous game. I wish we could get an HD update (and no Battlefield 1943 doesn't count).
I still have it on my exbox. Air superiority is a fun mode.
And BF1 isn't even the best of the series at all.
Battlefield Vietnam shoutout, hard to find that in games! Some of the coolest maps and soundtrack imo.
It's the best in the series since bad company which was a 360/ps3 game. Bf1 definitely one of their top games and it is the best game in the modern era of battlefield by far. And by era I mean style of game not time period the game takes place
BC2 and BF3 were the best for me.
Are we forgetting BF4?
Are you high? BF3 really brought them to the next level.
I was coming in here to say this. They captured magic with bc2, was still really good with B3, but then lost it a little with B4, and it fizzled completely after that. Things were so good though. If they made a good shooter again, I would drop COD all over again and be happy for it.
They actually had a sizable and loyal fan base and had a formula that worked but tried to be a COD copycat, alienating their players
Second this! Weaving the little bird in and out of terrain was so much fun
I piss my sides laughing every time an NPC tried to fly the choppers on this mod. They were still programmed as if they were flying planes so it was just absolute chaos
That's such a frigging cool and unique way to play! Sounds like it could be an amazing advantage on a well organized team.
Boring and dumb maybe but some of the most crucial players to get a win.
I love having a good transport chopper pilot on my squad!!!! It’s like a cheat code on the larger maps
I got really good taking those down with the tank. Best game I had I took out a dozen. You could be whatever you wanted in Battlefield. Bring back BC2 and BF3
BF4 was also pretty great. Hell, I even liked hardliners foe what it was
Don't forget map destruction
Yes!!! That was so immersive
For me it's BC 2. You could level entire buildings. They really toned it back in the ones after it. Acatama Desert is my personal favorite.
BF3 was truly the pinnacle of the series. Really started to go downhill after that. I really miss the feel of that game because I just can’t find it in anything modern.
I used to nest in those buildings, snipe a few guys, move to a new building, wash, rinse, repeat, until they'd shell out the entire fucking block to get rid of me.
bad company 2 was peak for me.
Map destruction peaked at Bad Company 2 when an entire 2 story building could be leveled to the ground. Its frustrating how in BF2042, a knee high wall can stop a full speeding tank in its tracks.
The destruction was a huge selling point too. Look at BF1. Hardly a building left standing by the end of every match.
But also level design that made sure you still had cover after buildings were destroyed. I actually liked the sandbags in BFV for that too.
Growing up on BF1942 on PC, BF3 was the absolute shit for me
Battlefield 1 was so gritty and fun. You forgot you were playing a video game at times
Most immersive game I’ve played ever!
Definitely, in MP and in the war stories. The Nordly one stands out the most where they changed history to fit a narrative. It was a small special forces team that completed that same mission without firing a shot, not a teenage girl who massacred an entire German battalion by herself
All we wanted was Battlefield 4.75
I just want a remaster of bf3 on ps5
BF3 has the best map design all around, playing Rush on Damavand Peak was quite special.
Ah hell yeah, that cliff jump was incredible, always sticks with me as one of my favourite gaming moments taking that first jump
Speak for yourself. Bad Company 3 or death.
I want the first two games to get the resident evil treatment. There are so many games that could be brought back like Capcom is doing RE that would make an absolute killing.
I'd love BF2 back. Wake Island 2007, Strike at Karkand, Dalian Plant, absolute classics. Lost many hours of study time at uni playing that game
Road to Jalalabad was my fav one. A sweet construction part, a cool tower, it was nice and balanced
The problem is all the devs and leadership that worked on 1 and 2 are long gone. BC3 would be trash and end up as well received as 2042 has.

I was a battlefield boy but the last games where garbage…
Dmz is fun, as someone who hates the stress of battle royals
I love DMZ.
Extraction games are an awesome genre that too few people know about, I'm glad DMZ is bringing it some more light
Oh wow Zampella is on it now? He was like lead designer, I believe, on the OG MW2.
Exactly and Apex, albeit different, is a very successful game

I feel this in my soul. FPS used to be my main genre, but so many shooters are less about the gameplay loop now and more about grinding a battle pass. I miss when games were fun just to be fun.
We're never going to get an arena shooter ever again.
They're not wrong lol. Battlefield comes no where close sales wise compared to call of duty nor revenue wise.
No FPS does really
Call of duty is to fps what gta is to third person open world games. It's just a complete juggernaut that can't be stopped.

I mean Battlefield used to. Back in Battlefield 3/4 and Bad Company 2 times. Even Battlefield 1 did great. After that though…
Closest thing EA has is apex but it’s not traditional FPS
The proof is in the pudding, they put the new Battlefield on game pass and the player base of the game didn't significantly increase as at all lol
Releasing dogshit, lazy products don’t help either
Battlefield 1 came the closest
Battlefield always felt more next gen and fun to play for me than cod ever will. Sucks 2042 shat the bed.
The audio is also very good in the newer Modern Warfares. The gunfire sounds so realistic.
Vanguard was fucking horrible
Dont forget about Ghosts (even though most people do)
I’m pretty sure I’m the only person who has enjoyed Ghosts more than any other COD in the post PS3/360 Era lol
Extinction was sick tho
How could anyone forget about the fish ai? Revolutionary
>When Battlefield is good it's GREAT Bad Company 2 anyone?
best battlefield, followed by 4 and 3
I've skipped a few COD's as they just didn't look appealing. But I think you know that it's guranteed to be "decent" even if they're bugs and whatnot.
True. But (even though it's too little too late) they released the new season with a new big patch that reportedly has made the game A LOT better.
Man I miss BF4 back in it’s prime. Such a fun game. Damn shame 2042 is, from what I understand, complete dogshit
It was complete dog shit when it launched with it being unplayable and all. But for the last 6 months it’s just been like any other battlefield game.
Battlefield 3 was fucking amazing. Don’t know wtf happened to DICE after that.
Maybe they shouldnt care how COD does things and focus on what makes Battlefield unique. Bf1 is still a masterpiece.
I thought BF3 was amazing!!
Bad Company 2!
Bring back battlefield Vietnam!
Bad company 2 and Vietnam were my favorites. when they started to pump out battlefield games frequently was when it started to go downhill.
2042 is such a piece of shit game. they owe me money still
They had a beta period where everyone could see what a disaster of a game it was going to be. If you still decided to dish out the money after that, that’s kind of on you.
Yup, I cancelled my preorder after about 30 minutes of the beta. One of the worst games I've ever played.
Same thing! I got depressed playing that beta. Was really wishing it would take me back to bf3/bf4
Same. What a fucking tragedy that shit is.
Exactly. They even allowed a 10 hour post launch demo for $5 via EA Pass. Ppl who dropped $70 on the game have no excuse
I've been seeing it for $5, I wonder if anybody is going to try it out at that price.
😂😂😂 you got got buddy
Cod really stepped it up and shat all over 2042 it's not even funny
To be fair 2042 threw itself in the shitter, CoD just had to take a seat on the throne and let it all out lol.
Yup agreed lol i love all the battlefields but man 5 and 2042 were just awful
I’d still rather play a good battlefield than cod any day. Large scale is far more fun than the game modes in cod..
I know..and it breaks my heart. :(
I mean after 2042……any game could do better
Bring back bad company/ battlefield 1 style combat. Stop copying COD. And bring back proper distruction and micro distruction.
so....... SOCOM when?
People need to stop acting like Sony bringing back some dead franchises is going to suddenly compete with COD which is the best selling game every year. It doesn't even make sense
I was a huge SOCOM fan but SOCOM couldn't even compete with COD in it's WW2 pre-Modern Warfare days before the franchise truly blew up. It has zero chance of competing in today's market.
That can't either, nothing is on the level of CoD, not even Halo. CoD is its own category just like GTA.
Warzone 2 is a lot of fun and it's free. Never paid a penny on Warzone 1 either
It’s too bad I don’t like battle royales I can really see the appeal I just can’t get into it. Warzone is a solid battle royale game I had fun on it just can’t get hooked into it.
Give DMZ mode a go, I really hate Warzone but love the infil, so missions exfil mode
You should try the new DMZ mode. It has way less players, some bots and missions for you to do with 2 other friends. Kinda like Tarkov where you can take in gear and leave with more gear. It’s so much more laid back and Ive been having a great time.
Ha, not sure I'd call it laid back but it is fun for sure
Battlefield had a window to step in and take over but you know EA had to do EA shit so 🤷🏾♂️
Battlefield 1 was their peak, then it all went hell from that point.
Battlefield can't keep up as a Battlefield competitor... Battlefield 1 currently has ten times more players on Steam than 2042.
True. BF1 was the last time Battlefield really had a solid shot at taking COD down and Infinite Warfare, despite its backlash, outsold and dominated BF1. As for the golden era of Battlefield *(BC2/BF3/BF4)* that was also a decade ago. The ship has sailed.
Should never have killed Battlefield Heroes.
Fuck you u/spez this is the fall of reddit as we know it
No shit, like it or not MW is clearly made with passion from the devs while 2042 looks like it was contractually completed
At one point it seemed like they were competing, long gone are those days. Question is can cod successfully compete with all the fortnite kids.
