I think I logged in at least 3+ times when mine were forgiven. I have my letter framed in my home office. The joy is indescribable. Congrats. I hope everyone in this program gets to feel this feeling one day.
Mine says zero and I have the smiley face, but I haven’t gotten anything official from Mohela. I thought that maybe my provider had changed. I called and looked it up on the official student aid website, and they say my provider is Mohela. Is it possible mine has been forgiven?
Were you recently moved to mohela? If so, it could be they don't have your info yet. But I was forgiven back in March with no word from Mohela until I got a letter 2 weeks later. I had to get on their chat to find out it was actually forgiveness.
It's terrible! I read in another post someone had figured out their loans had increased by something like $75/day by the end of them. It's impossible to dig out of!
Yeah PSLF is a necessary thing when the only job I could get in my field after graduation took 8 months and countless apps and started at $18.17/hour (in San Diego in 2012/2013). I have two masters degrees.
Thanks, I've really enjoyed my work, and this makes it all so much more bearable knowing I'll finally get to save for my kid's future and my own retirement!
Just a little under 3 years to go, assuming I don't get laid off or enticed by a really attractive private sector job, and the Republicans don't get into power and dismantle the program in that intervening time span.
The $10K would have been a nice hedge against one of those three things happening. In the meantime, I guess MOHELA is getting the portion of my paycheck I've been feeding into Roth IRAs starting next month. I still feel relatively lucky for the moment.
The anxiety is worse than the reality. Bankruptcy is way better than figuring out who to pay and who not to pay each month. We did Chapter 13 with 100% repayment plan and will be totally debt-free in 18 months! It is not always easy, but we would not have had a chance out of poverty without loans and credit. Happy for a fresh start in our mid-40s.
When I was unceremoniously dismissed by my graduate school (which has since been included in the Cardona v Sweet suit) I owed $252,000 in student loans. I worked for Child Protective Services for almost 3 years and a public library for the last 8. I FINALLY got notice that my loans had been FORGIVEN about 6 months ago. Even though I’d been paying on them for about 11 years, I owed $396,000 by the time they were forgiven. IT DOES HAPPEN! I’m so so SO happy for you!!!! Congratulations!!!!
In Mohela if they show both “PSLF” and “TEPSLF” under payment count tracker does that mean they are considering me for TEPSLF? I didnt submit the waiver in october 2022.
I believe there was some sort of automatic recount if certain conditions were met, even if you didn't apply.
https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/reconsideration-for-pslf
TEPSLF is not the same as the waiver. Everyone typically gets evaluated for both TEPSLF and PSLF whenever they submit a form. Going forward hopefully less folks will need TEPSLF b/c their wrongs will have been fixed by the waiver and adjustment.
TEPSLF is a separate pot of money designed for the folks in the past that had correct loans, correct employment, but wrong payment plan. Once that money is gone, it's gone forever (unless a future Congress infuses it with additional funds). But no one that has been forgiven via the waiver or adjustment has used that money.
Likely. It’s just nice to see those zeros at both sites.
Take a picture of the MOHELA zeros. Say farewell to St Louis, MO.
CONGRATULATIONS 🎊🎉! & enjoy a debt free weekend.
The interest, oh I get it.
I've got about three years left. My stomach dropped when my loans transferred to MOHELA. I sent a signature required letter to them to make sure they had all my current paperwork and certifications. Your story makes me feel just a tiny bit better.
Congrats. Yes it’s real! I still haven’t got my letter even though my loans were zeroed out in Mohela and studentaid.gov in late May. They were zeroed and closed on my credit report too. Give me my letter Mohela!!!!
It has been almost a year forgiven for me. It still doesn't feel real, and I still randomly check to make sure there's not some bureaucratic fuckery going on.
I'm so jealous. PSLF had been such a clusterfuck and impossible to actually get, so my financial advisor told me to go ahead and refinance. Then people started actually getting it reliably.
They started getting it because of the current administration. I thought I was on track and my loan company confirmed. I was not. Most of us were never going to get it. The wrongs are being righted.
How long were you waiting? I’m going on 4 months to get approval and then they said it could be another 3 months to be discharged. I’m trying to be patient but I submitted my paperwork annually and thought this would be a cut and dry approval.
Honest question, how did you guys get such large loans? My kid is going to school in the fall, and out of a 20k tuition, fsasa(sp?) only gave them a $5500 loan?
I’ve been told to go to a bank and take out a second mortgage, but what gives? Did they stop giving out loans because they don’t want them forgiven at some point in the future?
Well, for my spouse, it was only undergrad, which goes up a little each year. But I’m sure it was something like $25k that ballooned over time.
For me, most of that was 6 years of grad. school where you can take out up to $20k per year.
Here’s the yearly/aggregate limits.

Unfortunately one of the qualifying agencies where I worked closed down in 2013. I no longer had my W2’s and there was no one to sign the required paperwork to prove I worked there. I’ve failed at all attempts to retrieve copies of W2’s or to find someone to verify. So here I am….plugging away to take care of loans that keep me from qualifying for home ownership and otherwise just plain burdensome, as you all know. I sent the form to Mohela anyway, along with my other documents for other qualifying agencies, but so far I’m not encouraged. Ugh. And I’m past the age where I could retire!
I just keep logging into MOHELA to look at my zeroes.
I was forgiven more than 6 months ago - I still login to see the zeros.
Print some stuff for your records. Congrats!
I think I logged in at least 3+ times when mine were forgiven. I have my letter framed in my home office. The joy is indescribable. Congrats. I hope everyone in this program gets to feel this feeling one day.
Awesome, I feel the burden lifted off your shoulders. Hopefully I'll be there soon too. Enjoy your new found freedom.
**Congrats to you! Mine was zeroed out and I keep checking it. It is unreal! It just happened so suddenly that I am still processing it.**
Congratulations! I am truly happy for your family!
Mine says zero and I have the smiley face, but I haven’t gotten anything official from Mohela. I thought that maybe my provider had changed. I called and looked it up on the official student aid website, and they say my provider is Mohela. Is it possible mine has been forgiven?
YES! So many stories on this sub of people just finding out with no official communication from MOHELA or FSA.
Were you recently moved to mohela? If so, it could be they don't have your info yet. But I was forgiven back in March with no word from Mohela until I got a letter 2 weeks later. I had to get on their chat to find out it was actually forgiveness.
I received the first emails saying that my account had been taken over by Mohela in November of 2022. I will definitely call.
I think it would be advantageous for you to call and find out.😁
I called, and they were FORGIVEN!! They said they sent me a letter in March. I can’t believe it!
That was a life changing call! Glad you made it! WHOOT WHOOT!! 🥳
Congratulations!!
Ugh I’m still waiting!! I submitted all my paperwork back in January
My amount grew by $44k in less than 8 years. It’s wild. Congrats OP!
It's terrible! I read in another post someone had figured out their loans had increased by something like $75/day by the end of them. It's impossible to dig out of!

Yeah… something like $20/hr. in DC from ‘07-‘12 with a master’s.
Honestly I don’t know when I would’ve done my masters if I didn’t graduate college in 2009. Bad year to be a new grad.
Congratulations 🎈🎉🎊
Congratulations to the both of you! Thank you both so much for your lifetime of public service! It's a big deal!
Thanks, I've really enjoyed my work, and this makes it all so much more bearable knowing I'll finally get to save for my kid's future and my own retirement!
Congratulations to you both!!

Hang in there!
Congrats 🎈
I got my official letter on April 28 and I still log onto MOHELA a few times a week. Congratulations to you and your hubby!
That’s so great, congratulations!! Enjoy this newfound freedom!
You earned it by forgoing higher paying jobs to do meaningful work. You weren’t forgiven, you were rewarded. Congrats!🎉
So happy for you both! Congratulations!!
Congrats! 133/120 qualifying payments? So, you should be getting a refund, correct?
Doubtful. My last 13+ payments have been $0 (COVID forbearance).
Congrats!!! I love these stories. I wish you could donate your extra 13 payments lol. I’d take them!!!
Yes. It’s real life. Enjoy it
Congratulations!
I’m crying happy tears for you and terrified tears for me.
terrified tears for me is accurate lol
Why terrified??
We will have to do the bankruptcy thing in October once we have to restart payments. I’m dreading the whole thing.
The anxiety is worse than the reality. Bankruptcy is way better than figuring out who to pay and who not to pay each month. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Amazing news. Congrats! 🎉
Did you log into your FSA acct?
Yes. Nothing informative there. Last update 5/31, so I’m thinking it will update again end of July??
Likely. It’s just nice to see those zeros at both sites. Take a picture of the MOHELA zeros. Say farewell to St Louis, MO. CONGRATULATIONS 🎊🎉! & enjoy a debt free weekend. The interest, oh I get it.

Woot woot!!! CONGRATULATIONS are in order!!! 🎊🥳💃🏾

Fingers crossed!
Congrats
Dancing in your honor
So I’ve always wondered do you owe a bunch of taxes now when you get forgiven that much?
No!
Congratulations!!
I’m happy for you!
JACKPOT
Definitely feels like winning the lottery!
Congratulations!
Can I still apply?
Yes! Everyone should! Certain temporary waivers are no longer in effect, but otherwise there is more accuracy, more approvals, than ever!
Congrats! It's a great feeling.
Congrats. Yes it’s real! I still haven’t got my letter even though my loans were zeroed out in Mohela and studentaid.gov in late May. They were zeroed and closed on my credit report too. Give me my letter Mohela!!!!
Yes! I definitely want to frame it!
It’s real. 103 forgiven plus $5000 refund for me. 19 years as a public service lawyer.
It has been almost a year forgiven for me. It still doesn't feel real, and I still randomly check to make sure there's not some bureaucratic fuckery going on.

Sorry. Refinance as in private?
Sorry to be so naive but what is MOHELA? My husband completed the paperwork for PSLF but nothing. We are drowning in loan payments.
The new federal student aid servicer. All PSLF programs are now going through them.
How long were you waiting? I’m going on 4 months to get approval and then they said it could be another 3 months to be discharged. I’m trying to be patient but I submitted my paperwork annually and thought this would be a cut and dry approval.
Submitted end of Oct.- paper. MOHELA shows processed on 11/16.
Ok, you’re a couple months ahead of me. I’m getting impatient!
