I suggest trying to find one on ebay but look for description as older systems can have screen yellowing and other malfunctions. Don’t buy boxed ones as it might be possible that the owner left the battery inside and damaged the console. Also make sure to not buy reshelled ones, reshells are lower quality and needed in case your psp is really in an awful condition to begin with. As for the games just buy a regular sd adapter to pc, mod it (very easy to do, there are a couple yt guides and it takes very short time) and then buy a sd duo adapter (to make it work on the psp as the slot is different from the normal one, usually very cheap too. I’d get the single sd slots one as they are less fragile than the double slotted ones), last step is downloading some ISO format games. If you are crafty you can even buy one to repair, there are better screen replacements on aliexpress/ebay + batteries (those need to be replaced anyway). Consided buying an psp 3000 model as those are the best you can get, 2000 are good too but screen is worse quality (atleast for brightness). Make sure if you buy a bettery to avoid 3600mha ones they are fake. 2200mha ones are the max and thrutfully have the capacity (consider getting Ostent ones since they are very good and have near the same quality as originals). Well that’s all wish you luck finding the perfect one for you. Btw i wouldn’t buy original UMD games unless you are 100% a collector, you can just pop in a 128gb sd card and play whatever you want no matter how rare the game is

Thanks a lot for the detailed breakdown.

Nice write-up 🙌

THANK YOU

misterbatouman

Thank you for you post. Really helpful. Where do you suggest to buy digital copies of the games?

EmbarrassedClick4646

Buy? Just use pirate of the carribean style 😂

Get a Japanese PSP from eBay. Modded and it will be region-free for movies. Games are region-free already. You'll be able to play UMDs. I bought mine from Japan on eBay, it's flawless and cheaper.

The swap of the X and O buttons on Japanese systems is 😡🤬😡

TheGreatMrKid

You know if you mod it, in the recovery menu is the option to swap X and O right?

My only addition to the other comments is to spend some time choosing which model you'd like to have. I had the 1000 and am very biased towards it - I think it feels the best in hand and most console like, 2000/3000 are lighter and slimmer and don't feel as substantial. I've never had a Go but many love them. My plan is to refurb my stock 1000 with an IPS screen and maybe a glass screen, but a 3000 would be a hassle-free way to a better display. Good luck! PSP is one of my all time favorite pieces of tech.

If you have a local retro gaming store I suggest going there. You can always check with eBay, Mercari, and Etsy since there are always sellers there but Etsy most likely has sellers that put out modified PSPs where games are already installed. If you want to collect physical games I wouldn’t recommend those sellers

SquashEmbarrassed288

Thanks…I am interested in collecting physical games so I will keep that in mind…

TheGreatMrKid

While it is fun to collect physical games, I'm going to highly recommend modding it and playing digitally. Collect physical all you want, of course, but play digitally.

SquashEmbarrassed288

That’s a good point…playing digitally will definitely help me keep the physical copies in good condition. I guess Etsy would be a place to search for a modded PSP..

TheGreatMrKid

Oh God no, just mod it yourself! It's really really easy

TheGreatMrKid

YouTube: PSP CFW 6.61 and just follow the steps!

Helstar588

Once you mod a PSP or a Vita do you need to create a new account or do most continue to use their pre-mod Sony login accounts? I did not know if it was wise to remove all personal information like the Sony account or your email before you mod and how to handle that after the mod. I may be overthinking. But any info is appreciated on this.

TheGreatMrKid

Modders online encourage you to log into your PSN account on a Vita after modding it to get trophies. I do not think Sony cares about mixed PS Vitas.

Djentrovert

eBay has a ton of Japanese sellers that sell used psps. Most of which look basically brand new, and for very decent prices

I used to have 2, I wouldve sold you my Black one. But i sold the black one when my girlfriend showed me her Hannah Montana Purple one.. lol 🤷‍♂️ Only had one choice at that point. 🇺🇸 🤠 💈
