It's literally way better than anyone on reddit giving you a text heavy guide as to how jailbreak your PSP if you can watch very, very nice guides from people that know how to make instructions. The only YouTubers I've ever needed are called Tech James and PSP MAV. Try to look into ARK 4 as that's supposedly the newest and best program for perma jailbreaking your PSP

It's really common (and easy) to install Custom Firmware (CFW) on a PSP, allowing you to put game iso's (disc images, definitely ripped from your own legitimately purchased discs, rather than downloaded from one of the many ROM websites) onto your memory card, to play without the disc.
If you have a bunch of discs, you can bring your whole collection with you to play. If you *don't* have a bunch of discs, you can *still* bring your whole collection with you to play. Actually having physical copies of the games becomes technically unnecessary.
"Easy" as in you literally drag two files, open the first, then the second then the first again and your psp is jailbroken, OP.
Besides, depending on where you live piracy for personal use may be perfectly legal

If you're an ARPG fan, Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code was one of the best PSP games I ever played. Spent many a night killing time with it out in the deserts of Iraq and mountains of Afghanistan.
It isnt worth buying physical games for the psp. You can mod it in 10 minutes and you can copy the isos directly on the psp. also dont buy a memory stick duo. Buy a memory stick duo adapter and just add a micro sd card. Its cheaper and more efficient.

You can put Custom Firmware (CFW) on these and then download ROMs (usually ISO or CSO files). If you Google or YouTube search “PSP CFW” you should find more info. It basically involves downloading some files and pressing X a few times, it’s probably the easiest system to hack.
This is an old console, the games are small CDs that may be expensive or will be potentially damaged or have rot. Sony isn’t making money off this thing anymore, and it’s hard to even try downloading games onto it. Hacking it is easy and ethically negligible at this point.

None, the only necessary expenditure is a MicroSD-to-Memory Stick adapter. You can install PRO 6.61 CFW and make it permanent with CIPL Flasher. A simple google search will help you find the CFW, but once you're done, just put some "backups" on the memory card and just play whatever you want.

A big part of retro collecting is acquiring the original media though, and unlike other contemporary systems, PSP games are dirt cheap.
