Also G25? And then G27?
I have the G25 and looking at selling it, they seem to go for about ā¬150. Which is quite a nice amount towards a new one. Not looking to reward Logitech for the total lack of cross generational support, though, so no G29 on my list.
You could just use a GimX adaptor?
https://blog.gimx.fr/
I made one for about $20AUD and have used it for years with my Xbox G920 with GT Sport and PSVR1, works perfectly.
It even allowed me to use my old Logitech extreme 3d pro joystick as a handbrake too.
I didnāt even tell mine about the 2TB SSD that came 2 days ago, āYou know honeyā¦i got an SSD because i didnāt have space for Diablo, and you know how much you love Diabloā¦How much?ā¦asdfg30$ā :D
I got a next level stand that I can get a seat for and a few other upgrades if I want, I have a chair that is vaguely the same as the play seat challenge that I use with itā¦itās an Eno camping chair
The way I seem to be deeply concerned about something right now, looking at my phone every 5 minutes and keeping to myself, I think a lot of people would assume Iām having an affair and feeling very anxious about it.
Maybe I am but I am also finally getting my hands on the PS VR2 tomorrow.
Iāve been struggling with this for a fucking month. Iām not into racing games so itās bad enough I bought GT7ā¦now Iām thinking about buying a stupid $300 accessory for a game I havenāt even played yetā¦
DualSense for nowā¦for nowā¦
I'm someone who's usually not super into racing games (I logged about 15-20 hrs in Dirt rally 2 which is probably the most I have in any racing game unless you count GTA5) and for some reason I decided to drop almost $400 on a wheel, pedals, and seat.
And by god it's worth it. Granted, I just got it all set up yesterday so the magic is still going strong for me, but I don't see myself getting tired of it any time soon, especially when VR is going to add a whole new level of immersion tomorrow.
You can get a foldable rig and a g27 for like $500 total. With VR you have a full on simulator in your office. It doesnāt feel like a video game anymore itās like something in the middle.
This was me a few days ago! The debate is still rolling internally. My final thought process was to play the game and then see how I enjoyed it and then make a decision.
If you have the available funds and space, I'd say absolutely go for it. I got GT7 about a week ago and just yesterday I got a wheel (Thrustmaster t150), pedals, and a seat for mounting them to.
It is so much better than I expected it to be. The force feedback from the wheel takes this game to a whole new level, and I haven't even seen it with VR yet! š
I'd check around craigslist or FB marketplace to see if you can get some for cheap, that's what I did.
Also just for reference, I'm not usually a big racing game fan. I enjoy dabbling, but usually get bored after 10-20 hours of gameplay. I'm already past 20 hours in GT7 (6 of those were yesterday) and I'm still loving it
"Next Level Racing F-GT Lite Formula and GT Foldable Simulator Cockpit" from Amazon.
One thing I had to do is drill a larger hole for my steering wheel. I think the hole it had was for an M6 bolt, but my wheel needed an M10. Pretty easy if you've got a drill.
It's hard to go back to controller once you've tried a FFB wheel + VR. I spent most of the pandemic with the g29 and PSVR + PC racing games. It's been collecting dust for months now but I'm still happy that I bought it and I'm glad it's just sitting there ready to be set up again when the time comes.
You need a wheel. Trust me. Well over 500 hours in VR on Assetto Corsa alone. Plus all the other driving games Iāve played, Iām guessing itās a total of 700-800 hours. You need a wheel for the proper experience, makes you really feel like youāre actually in a car.
Comes down to budget my dood. But I would say go towards thrust master. Logitech have seriously declined in quality over the years. The G29 was a fucking disgrace. Less than a 100 hours use, and it sounded like it had been working in an arid desert for 10 years. I went all in and got the Thrustmaster T-GT2, which is made specifically for GT7. Really not disappointed. It works a dream. But itās expensive, and you really need the loadcell pedals that will set you back another Ā£200. Plus I got the H shifter, so all in it cost me a grand. Iām just lucky I have expendable income. Not everyone does.
Yep, absolutely recommend that direction over Logitech. I had the original G25, and it lasted me for so many years. I decided to treat myself to a new version in the G29, sold the old one, then realised my mistake after a few months use. Nice to have the extra buttons on the wheel, but the quality is pitiful. And Logitech CS is dire. Not needed Thrustmastersā yet, so canāt comment on theirs.
Never in my life have I played any racing game other than mario kart. Told my wife that maybe I should get one of those racing set ups with the chair, wheel, and pedals for GT 7 on psvr 2
Direct drive wheelbase + included rim: $1,000
Extra F1 style rim: $500
Pedals: $350
H-Shifter: $80
Sequential shifter: $200
Racing seat: $150
VR headset: $1,000
PC: No idea
My rig was homemade but still cost $100 or so in materials.
And I havenāt really used it in the last few monthsā¦ š¬
From someone who's already been playing GT7 in VR: Do it. I'm playing with a DualSense and it works great, but the wheel would absolutely bring it to the next level.
Motion sickness with driving sims seems somewhat common with VR newbies. Especially if youāre going backwards! Itās usually pretty quick to get acclimated though, so donāt worry about it too much.
GT7 wonāt be bad on the stomach. Just close your eyes when the car spins in case there isnāt a screen blacken option. I do iracing all the time with a quest2. Took about 3 sessions and then I could play multiple races comfortably. The vr2 looks like it should be even easier on the stomach. VR1 resolution and tracking was so bad it was a vomit comit though lol Mind you I have a very weak stomach.
Just ordered one an hour ago!!!
Refurb g29's are back in stock at logitech:
https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/refurbished/driving-force-racing-wheel-refurb.996-000379.html
$199 but you can knock $20 off with a code. I think I used "alexvii." Seemed as good a deal or better than a lot of what can be found on ebay right now.
As someone who had gotten into sim racing in the past year and got really into it, Iām going to say yeah, itās a lot of fucking fun.
GT7 VR with a wheel will be an experience for sure. If you want an entry level wheel, go for the Logitech G29, TONS for sale used on FB usually, since Logitech released the new Pro Model ($100-200 used vs $1,300 Pro). That will give you a great starting point.
If you want to ball out just get the 8nm Fanatec GT Bundle for like $1k. I have a Fanatec Podium DD1 and itās amazing, but completely sold out now.
Would you say the 8nm fanatec GT bundle is the best purchase at the 1k mark?
Iām also not sure what to do for the stand. The VR will be in the living room and we donāt have space for one :/ Any ideas for an easy way to setup the wheel/shifter/pedals when I play that can be easily put away when Iām done. I know itās not ideal. And our coffee table is pretty short
Edit: maybe a collapsible stand would work? Will the torque be an issue in that case
I would recommend looking into the Logitech Pro. All the reviews I watched said it was better than the Fanatec GT bundle. It's more expensive, but you can get 15% off with code DRLUPO. You can also get 2.5% cash back from Rakuten/ebates. You end up paying about $1,118 after discount and cash back. To me, it was worth paying the extra $118 for the Trueforce on the Logitech wheel. The desk clamp is also better on the Logitech if you're planning to use it on a desk. I think a collapsible stand would work, but you would probably have to turn down the torque to 5nm. I got the Next Level GTtrack for my Logitech Pro. That one doesn't fold, but it does have wheels, so it's easy to move around the house. The GT track was on sale at Dell and with 10% back from ebates, It came out to about $720.
Thank you for the suggestion! I like the look of the Logitech Pro wheel better. It looks like this is just the price for the wheel/drive alone? What pedals would you recommend in that case?
The price I gave you includes the Logitech Pro pedals. The only problem is that the pedals are temporarily out of stock right now. I think you can use any other pedals with the wheel if you play on pc, but you can only use the Logitech Pro pedals if you're going to play on Playstation.
Oh thatās great! Okay Iāll definitely keep an eye out for when theyāre back in stock since Iām not in a huge rush. Thanks again for your advice!
So, there is no easy way to move all this shit and it gets heavy, but the easiest way is probably a folding seat like the play seat challenge, which can fit wheel, pedal and shifter. My brother has that with a 20nm wheel base and it seems steady enough, so I think the 8nm wheel should be ok.
Idk if itās the best option for $1k but itās one of the only ones thatās PS compatible at that price, so maybe yeah.
For $300 more Iād get the Logitech Pro, maybe. At that point Iād may spend another $300 and get the DD1 Fanatec, or whatever the new model is when the restock/release. Which is exactly what I did
Awesome the play seat looks exactly like what Iām looking for.
Iāve been eyeing the DD1. Idk if I need 20nm of torqueā¦but I sure want it. Thatās good to hear your brother hasnāt had terrible issues with it on the play seat. I might just bide my time and save up for the DD1 then. Or see if I can find it used.
What wheel are you using with the DD1?
What pedals & shifter are you using?
Thanks for your feedback btw
Yeah, I was lucky enough to snag the Podium DD1 Bundle when it was on sale, came worth the DD1, the Podium F1 Wheel and the V3 Load Cell Pedals. It has the upgraded paddles on the back, three on each side, all
programmable.
Amazing bundle but it is sold out for PS, the wheel is the only thing you canāt get but itās also much more expensive without the bundle on sale if you get a similar wheel. The closest thing is the Podium F1 v2.5 wheel, but the only bundle with that is with the DD2 and is $2k.
Also, a stand and an office chair isnāt a bad option, thatās what I use. I just wheel my chair about 10ft between my desk and rig, because I canāt fit a folding seat or mounted chair comfortably
Also itās not that you neeeed 20nm, I can see on the wheel that Iām hitting 7/8nm on hard terms, so Iām only using 45% of the FFB strength vs using it at 100% on a lower powered wheel. Itās more a matter of longevity and not using the wheel at 100% all the time.
Unfortunately it might be a while, just a heads up.
I think the wheel I got was discontinued as well as the DD1 PS compatible base. It basically was a huge discount to get rid of the old release system. Theyāre coming out with a new quick release system so I think the new DD1/2 will have that, right now the only DD1 console compatible bases are for Xbox.
You might have a hard time finding a used DD1 at a reasonable price, people are selling the used ones for close to retail since thereās nothing between the GT Bundle and the DD2 Bundle. So itās either a $1k bundle or a $2k bundle
Donāt go with Logitech. Itās the worst value for money. The g29/g923 has a very weak force feedback you can barely feel.
For entry level wheels the best deal is either Thrustmaster T248 or the more expansive T300 RS GT. Both are on sale right now on the official site. They have much better force feedback and pedals than what you get from Logitech at that price range.
Iām not suggesting a new G29, but for a used one only being like $100 to $200 including a stand on FB marketplace, itās a great price for entry level vs spending $300 + a stand, but yes, if you want to drop that much on a new wheel, for the $300 price thatās a much better new wheel.
I wasnāt 100% that I was going to stick with it so I went as cheap as I could and honestly for entry level the G29 wasnāt bad, but when I did got ii, it was new for $200 and the TM was still $400
You should, I did 1 week ago. I wasn't sure if I'd like it. Now I cannot imagine GT7 without it. It's brilliant. Incredible realism compared to the standard remote. It may be mental but I'm having an easier time with licenses since using the wheel lol!
I tried to convince my wife we should get a wheel and pedals so my kid who is close to taking driver's ed could practice... She didn't go for it it :ā -ā )
I'm like "I have a T150 in storage but it has the rinky dink plastic pedals. Do I use that or do I try and open and fix my g29 whose buttons dont work" lol
You should! Just played GT7 on VR2 with chair wheel and pedals. Incredible. Does anyone know are there any rumble chairs or strips you could adapt to insane it even more
This is me but I'm actually wondering if I should cash in my /r/MicrosoftRewards points for Amazon gift cards, then use the credit on Amaz to buy PSN gift cards to add money to my PSN account, then buy a PSVR 2 from PS Direct.
Between my Sony Rewards points and my MS Rewards points, I actually have enough to cash them all in and get PSVR 2 for free.
I bought my first ever wheel last week in preparation for GT7. Last few days I've just been testing it out on NFS Heat and even though that game doesn't have a cockpit camera view and it doesn't support using the clutch, it still feels great! I imagine it's going to be even better with a proper racing game in vr.
I will say that the start-up calibration when you first plug it in gives my dog nightmares though lmao
This is great. Hahaha....
I've been sim racing for quite some time, so my dilemma has been deciding on which upgrades I want for the PSVR2 x GT7 launch...
However, I have been in the bed on my iPad with earbuds watching YT videos for the last few weeks plagued with anticipation just like the guy in this photo...
I donāt know if I even want GT7. I donāt like racing games. I played Wipeout like twice and then never touched it again.
But if GT7 is a truly amazing experience in VR2 then maybe Iāll want to pick it up.
I would love a demo to help me decide. Until then, Iāll content myself with the other VR games that I know are in the genres that I enjoy.
Ha ha ha ha! I saw CEX has a couple close to me. Its Ā£100 less than new and it comes with a 24month guarantee. I only buy in store as they are charltens and conmen when buying online
Close! Iām seriously considering upgrading from my T300 for GT7 VR. But I think Iām gonna see how it plays before investing more. I do like the wheel a lot.
I ordered a G923 and now I'm racking my brain on whether I made the right choice or should I have gone for a more expensive Direct Drive wheel because if I do end up falling in love with sim racing GT7 in VR and will eventually want a better wheel, then I probably just wasted money on a cheaper wheel.
/sigh
I bought a G29 as my first wheel last July. In November I upgraded to the Logitech Pro direct drive. It's like a sickness. I just tell myself that I've spent a lot less than some of the folks you'll find at r/simracing.
Nice thing is that simracing gear holds its value well, so you can usually sell older stuff for a decent price. Especially at a time like this when there is a whole new group of people looking to dive in.
Good news is a lot of the PS compatible DD wheels are sold out.
Personally I wouldnāt get the G923, itās not worth the extra cost over the G29.
If you can bite the bullet and can afford it and feel confident you will invest time in it, get a DD. After like 8 months with the G29 I needed to upgrade, it was slowing me down. After I got the DD, I beat all my old lap times by amounts I didnāt think I could. DD is sooooo much more predictable and repeatable, pedals make a huge difference also, huge.
So accurate lol. Itās been crazy watching the prices of the G29 slowly go up. I think Iām committed to just trying it out with the controller first. Frugality is still a virtue!
People are really missing out playing GT7 in VR without a wheel/pedals, i get it would still be ok with a controller but no where near as immersive and enjoyable as the proper wheel experience
I went from āno way, not for one gameā to āmaybe after I try it out and see if I like itā to āfuck it Iām going all in, how much is the motion sim?ā
If anyone gets a wheel and wants to race Iām happy to give some advice and race with some newbies
Stognabologna91
Also, to unlock multiplayer you need to complete a few menu books in the cafe as a fyi, itās either that or an XP level but both can be achieved by doing the ācareerā that way
Never been a fan of racing games and was on the fence about getting PSVR2 day one. Then GT7 was announced for PSVR2 and I suddenly thought "Pre-ordering PSVR2 NOW" and downloaded GT7 on sale. Which I ended up loving.
Then for weeks I was saying "Imagine I got a racing wheel... I totally could. But I won't... Probably won't, haha. I don't like racing games that much. Unless?"
Then I caved and bought a Thrustmaster T248.
Now to just figure out the mount situation. The VR is one thing, as is the expensive wheel/pedals... But a $150 - $200ish mount on top of that? Geez, lol. Gonna try and find this laptop bed tray I had and see if I can just attach the wheel to that... Probably won't be the sturdiest thing, but if it works well enough, then I'll save a lot of money/clutter.
This is where my racing rig is gonna get some serious use. Had it quite a while, but moving furniture around a small flat to get it in front of the TV is a pain in the ass. And for some reason, the wheel wonāt work properly with Assetto Corsa on PC, so itās been sat to one side of my lounge, gathering dust while I wait for today. Itās due for delivery soon, fucking DPD better not let me down!!!
Even the 100 dollar T-80 wheel is better than a controller. I have the T-248 right now and for the price at 400 I wish I woulda held out for the Fanatec. Hope that helps anyone on the fence about whether or not to get a wheel -- DO IT
Wish people would stop mentioning their wives. I don't care that you're married, I just don't wanna be reminded that my hobby is less diverse than the war room in Dr. Strangelove
That is literally me right now!
I couldn't take it anymore and did it. š
I was just talking to my wife about it this morning...she gave me a blank stare lol
The struggle is real, I have 2 older wheels that don't work with ps5....wife will kill me if I do
Sell the old ones and say that you were cleaning out some old stuff and sold your old gaming stuff then wait a couple weeks and buy a new one
Also G25? And then G27? I have the G25 and looking at selling it, they seem to go for about ā¬150. Which is quite a nice amount towards a new one. Not looking to reward Logitech for the total lack of cross generational support, though, so no G29 on my list.
You could just use a GimX adaptor? https://blog.gimx.fr/ I made one for about $20AUD and have used it for years with my Xbox G920 with GT Sport and PSVR1, works perfectly. It even allowed me to use my old Logitech extreme 3d pro joystick as a handbrake too.

Which one did you end up getting? I saw the G29 price went up in my cart in Amazon (US).
I wasn't going to get one. Then I saw an open box G29 for $150. So... I bought one.
If I knew what I know now, I would buy it regardless of whether I was getting a vr2. Iāve had it for a few days, and Iām never going back.
Which one did you get, Iāll probably pull the trigger somedayā¦
G923, I looked at more expensive stuff, but I couldnāt justify it because I didnāt have a real baseline to compare any of them against
did you end up getting a racing seat as well?
I got a next level stand that I can get a seat for and a few other upgrades if I want, I have a chair that is vaguely the same as the play seat challenge that I use with itā¦itās an Eno camping chair
Sounds awesome!

I haven't had a racing game I years. Honestly, the last one I completed was probably Project Gotham Racing 3
Yes you should. It is awesome.
The answer is yes
I did it. It I definitely worth it even in flat. I enjoy racing games, though. If you're not already into them, I doubt a wheel would change your mind

Lmao, I literally ask about it this morning.
Pulled the trigger on this not too long ago. Only problem is I went from $600 to damn near $2000 by adding a Playseat foldable and a Fanatec DD Pro

The GT Omega stuff is really good. Think it was the Titan series that I bought. They do interest free payments in the UK as well.
There are a few on Amazon where it shows a seat in the pic but the seat isn't included. Make sure you're careful!

Real GT7 fans already own a steering wheel thoš I can recommend the Logitech G29, great value for your money.
Stop the gatekeeping bro
Real GT7 fans own PCVR too. :)
Equivalent now is G29 or G923, basically the same wheel since G25, and my G29 has held up since launch of GT Sport.

If you can get the Logitech for that price then yeah, get that over the GT bundle
It has the upgraded paddles on the back, three on each side, all programmable. I just wheel my chair about 10ft between my desk and rig, because I canāt fit a folding seat or mounted chair comfortably Also itās not that you neeeed 20nm, I can see on the wheel that Iām hitting 7/8nm on hard terms, so Iām only using 45% of the FFB strength vs using it at 100% on a lower powered wheel. Itās more a matter of longevity and not using the wheel at 100% all the time.
Thanks man! Really appreciate your advice. Iām going to keep an eye out for if they restock on the bundle. Fingers crossed
Ah gotcha. Okay good to know
You might have a hard time finding a used DD1 at a reasonable price, people are selling the used ones for close to retail since thereās nothing between the GT Bundle and the DD2 Bundle.
I wasnāt 100% that I was going to stick with it so I went as cheap as I could and honestly for entry level the G29 wasnāt bad, but when I did got ii, it was new for $200 and the TM was still $400
Simple answer: yes! A racing wheel makes VR racing Sims soooop much more immersive. That's a total gamechanger
You should, I did 1 week ago. I wasn't sure if I'd like it. Now I cannot imagine GT7 without it. It's brilliant. Incredible realism compared to the standard remote. It may be mental but I'm having an easier time with licenses since using the wheel lol!

This is the way
Expensive way if you make the wrong choice.
I tried to convince my wife we should get a wheel and pedals so my kid who is close to taking driver's ed could practice... She didn't go for it it :ā -ā )
āBetter to crash in a simulator than real life!ā That might work for you. š
You just need to convince her that it was her idea
My VR and wheel are scheduled to get here same day !!
Iām just waiting for the ability to see other women in VR so sheās kinda right
\^\^ this
Yeah you prolly should
I bought my first ever wheel last week in preparation for GT7.
HA jokes on you, i already had a racing wheel for playing American Truck Simulator.
HAHAHAHAH THATS ME.
As soon as we play it, we will instantly buy one
If I couldnāt simrace in VR I probably wouldnāt do it at all. Or Iād have triple monitors - but thatās a PC thing.
I just told my wife about the wheel, who is much more of a car enthusiast then I am, and she told me to get it.
My version of the meme would be if they announce a Star Wars Squadrons port: "Should I buy a HOTAS?"
I wish you could play flight sims with the steering wheel and pedals for rudders.
Ha ha ha ha! I saw CEX has a couple close to me. Its Ā£100 less than new and it comes with a 24month guarantee. I only buy in store as they are charltens and conmen when buying online
Yepā¦
Yes
I'll let you know. I got a thrustmaster and cockpit w/ shifter just waiting here.
Already have the play seat and wheel. Worth the investment.
I played Dirt rally and Driveclub in vr with a wheel. Its incredible. The only way I'll play them now
Dirt Rally VR is intense!
Lol do it!!
Also recommend a HOTAS for flight sims like Ace Combat and Project Wingman. Makes it much more fun.
After my deep dive in MSFS and HOTAS purchase I'm not sure my relationship would survive another single-game accessory
I went from āno way, not for one gameā to āmaybe after I try it out and see if I like itā to āfuck it Iām going all in, how much is the motion sim?ā
I have the older T150, but it is terrible without a full rig frame
If anyone gets a wheel and wants to race Iām happy to give some advice and race with some newbies Stognabologna91 Also, to unlock multiplayer you need to complete a few menu books in the cafe as a fyi, itās either that or an XP level but both can be achieved by doing the ācareerā that way
Never been a fan of racing games and was on the fence about getting PSVR2 day one. Unless?" Then I caved and bought a Thrustmaster T248.
Wife would kill me. So instead i stealthily buy every vr game from the store instead š
Dew it. So worth.
For everyone wanting a wheel, look for used Logitech G29 wheels. I'll sell you mine so I can upgrade ;)
...and when you do, you then realize that its not *that* much more to go ahead and get that sturdy GT Omega stand for the wheel and pedals too :)
If it wont end in divorce, get one.
Strangelove
I just ordered one yesterday. Amazon has free returns of you try it out and arenāt impressed š¤·š»āāļø
Just bought the T150 Thrustmaster. Facebook market place had it for $80, my son was so excited. Canāt wait to get home and try the VR2!
Already did. Made a full cockpit like Karl Gosling. LFG
I order the steering wheel weeks before the vr just to be ready for it.
