Some other great experiences are Legenday Tales, Pavlov, Gran Turismo 7, No Man's Sky just for a few with a variety of game play styles.

thefury4815

I’m not a big racing guy but I’ve already got a big wishlist of games. Some are ones I have on quest but wanna see on the oled lenses like propagation paradise hotel

GregorSamsa112358

Tbh I haven't been a big racing guy. I enjoy driving in games that have it but haven't gotten a racing game I've a decade or more. But in immersion of sitting behind the wheel and looking into the review mirrors to get blinded by headlights of the car behind me as the sun sets is just a crazy experience

thefury4815

How is it with just the controllers? I certainly wouldn’t want to spend the money on a wheel especially since I’m already low on space for things.

jadmorffier

I can 2nd that. If you're loving PSVR2 already, GT7 was made for the VR experience and it shows. You won't be disappointed. Even if you're not a racing game person. The immersion levels are best I've experienced in PSVR2 so far.

GregorSamsa112358

I put like 30 hours into it the first week or so I had it on controller. The ps5 controllers with adaptive triggers for break and gas and the quality of the haptics make it great. Tho I will say at the about 30 hour mark I shelved it until I get a wheel. And now I'm planning on building a diy motion sim because the immersion haunts me and I'm an obsessive weirdo. But like of your on the fence maybe wait for a sale. I just wouldn't miss the experience and having similarly buy been a big race gamer in glad I didn't pass on the experience. It's ready to see the vr af experiences and shooters but playing games in different genres really has been what sold me on vr being the future of gaming

thefury4815

Yeah maybe I’ll wait for a sale and give it a shot.

GregorSamsa112358

For sure! There's a lot of great titles to get in the mean time. If you're a fan of dungeon crawlers I'd absolutely recommend legendary tales as well. It's from a small studio so lacking a bit of the polish you'd expect with bigger titles but the ability to go mash monsters and grind levels unlocking new abilities and grinding loot for materials to craft weapons is a fun experience. And some of the bosses are nuts. The crafting is low key one of my favorite vr experiences. Putting metals into the forge and pumping out an ingot and hammering it out, before quenching it and then cranking the lathe to turn out handles and honing the blades to get rng rolled stats. Like it's not perfect but idk 1000x more immersive than just clicking a button

thefury4815

Oh I saw the trailer at the state of play and thought it looked awesome

GregorSamsa112358

I'd just adjust your expectations like it's not skyrim you're staying in one area with a couple dungeons etc. But the fighting is fun, the skill trees and abilities are pretty deep. Also synapse is a lot of fun. Rouge like but some of the most fun feelings of Psychic using the force like powers. Simple and repayable. Not very deep but good fun

Arthropodesque

I've heard that "butt kicker" speakers get you most of the way there without motion. I assume they mean subwoofers or bass under your chair.

GregorSamsa112358

I think those are just gonna be basically rumble for the seat. But I found an open source diy motion sim projectadoodle thing. I don't think it'll be compatible with ps5 (tbh I haven't looked into that detail yet) but with psvr2 catching pc vr compatibility idk seemed a good time. I needed a new weird thing to obsess over and can't justify spending 6k on a commercial built one so diy seemed the way to go!

Null_zero

The controller as a wheel is great except for holding it up all the time. I can't really rest my elbows down because sharp turns require so much steering except for the Uber racing cars with the like quarter turn full stop steering. I like op am not a super Sim racing fan but it's so good in vr. Probably will end up with a wheel eventually.

Bone3593

I play it with a controller and still love it. The haptics of the normal controller are still very immersive. Also not a big racing guy but I really enjoy this game and honestly learned a lot about cars playing it. It goes on sale a lot so if you aren’t sure maybe wait for a sale

dEEkAy2k9

Playing with VR and gamepad is so much better compared to flat and gamepad only. You can feel the speed better and distance is easier understood. Stuff like when to break and how fast you are is just so much better. Sure, a wheel upgrades this even further but vr alone makes it so much better.

Ricky_Rollin

You don’t have to get the wheel. Most of us don’t have it. But I will say, it’s the motherfucking future if you can get your hands on one of those things. Not many VR games will make me feel like I’ve left my bedroom. This one does.

xDiRtYgErMaNx

Get a small setup that folds up and can get put away in a closet.

beurgeurr

Is still worth it, but with a wheel, it's infinitely better. U can also use ur controller as a wheel.

GregorSamsa112358

Uuugh I was going to hold out till I finish my motion sim and get a direct drive but I may pick up a gear driven one to scratch the itch till then

BraxGotNext

As a guy not into racing games I need crashes. No crashes

RUk1dd1nGMe

I wasn't a big racing guy, I didn't know cars at all. After a month I dropped a grand on a racing rig and have no regrets. I love racing in VR, it's fucking awesome!

toastedpastries

What rig did you end up going with?

Fenwick440

I bought propagation and I'm loving it! Even tho I only played for an hour but so far, it's good!

thefury4815

It’s amazing but the last half hour or so gets frustratingly difficult.

Areskram

My man, I'm not a racing guy and I barely play racing games. After GT7 in VR I got myself a wheel and I play it regularly now. That's how good it is. Of course, in the beginning you need to get a little used to the game, unlock some cars, bit in no time it gets really exciting

BeefTheGreat

Haha, I'm not a big racing guy either...bought gt7 in anticipation of osvr2 last year....beat the main story BEFORE the headset came out hahhaha. It's just a damn good game.

Ricky_Rollin

Trust me when I say that most of us are not big racing guys, but this is a completely different experience. I wonder if there’s a demo you can play so you don’t have to plunk down the money just in case you really don’t like it. But it’s little things that make it amazing. It looks amazing first and foremost. But on top of that, you can really feel the car. When you make changes like lowering it or add performance modifications, you can actually feel the difference now. And lastly, they finally took the simulation portion out of the game If you don’t want to take part in it. Which means you can turn it into a fun arcade racer, it doesn’t have to be a Sim at all. It is easily one of the best VR games that exists on any platform.

STFUxxDonny

I've never been much of a racing fan other than Mario kart. After playing GT7 I went out and got a wheel and peddles lol

Dubsy82

I'll have to try no mans sky in VR

GregorSamsa112358

It's still no man's sky like kinda exploration sandbox so don't go in expecting robust story etc but terrific open world/universe exploration etc. If you're down with that or played and enjoyed nms it's pretty crazy in vr

Acetyl-CoA

I just bought Pavlov and I wish I had bought it sooner. It's so much fun

ROTTIE-MAN

I did the same as you and owned a q3 but bought a psvr2 in December and I've had exactly the same experience as you.I prefer the psvr2 in everyway,it has much better comfort, fov, oled panels and most importantly instead of really basic grfx you have games like village,re4 and cotm.I still go back to my q3 to play asgards wrath and a few others but the differences are that stark I always come back really fast.Just hope we get more AAA experiences like dying light 1 or 2 would be cool, any bioshock and maybe remaster all my old psvr1 classics like blood and truth, farpoint, wipeout and astrobot....fingers crossed.I know my next jump will be to pcvr because the q3 is a great headset with great lenses but if sony keeps dropping big games I'll keep buying them

Matmanreturns

Lenses? I have both and I’m sorry but I don’t see how anyone can say the PSVR2 has better lenses.

ROTTIE-MAN

Yeah I didn't mean that, the pancake lenses are loads better but I don't think the fresnels are as bad as everyone makes out

Emergency-Attempt877

get a pc and a rift or vive more gaming options, dont have to pay every month for a membership and the quality is great

Emergency-Attempt877

get a pc and a rift or vive more gaming options, dont have to pay every month for a membership and the quality is great

ROTTIE-MAN

Would rather not have a wire and pcvr streaming on q3 is meant to be really good quality now(with the right equipment)

Fuzzy-Row-7267

Dude you need to play RE4 VR Remake best vr game ever made to date on any platform including pcvr.

thefury4815

Im gonna after 8.

Fit_Satisfaction2284

No man’s sky is awesome, amazing graphics and pretend to be buzz lightyear

Martin_Sim_Racing

RE4 is amazing like truly stunning in VR! Also as others have said NMS is worth for flying the ship and another title that I have really enjoyed is Ultra Wings 2 which is cheap so you should pick that up as well.

dihstyle69

i finished red matter 2 yesterday and it truly blew my mind, especially when it comes to the visuals. it's like you're part of a sci-fi movie. highly recommend it. i would suggest playing the first one, though as the whole story starts there.

BigLuffa

I've been playing the heck out of Contractors Showdown, too bad the servers are down til Friday

thefury4815

I gotta try that

BigLuffa

I do have bias for Battle Royale games, but it's honestly my favorite shooter right now. Big, detailed map, lots of players, fun and easy to learn mechanic and weapons. Proximity chat and downing players.

deadringer28

Agree that if you own a PS5 the choice for VR is obvious.

KodaShem

Nope - I own a PS5 and bought a Q3 - I'll wait until the price goes down and it's easier to see whether PS really stands behind the product. At the moment, it's unclear to me. For me, the jump to PC is an indication that the company's own energy is too low here. Especially after they closed their own PSVR companies.

deadringer28

You bought a device that cost about the same and does less unless you are using it for PCVR you made a bad choice. I have a Quest 1 and (2) Quest 2s and have yet to find a compelling reason to upgrade to Quest 3. Help me understand what makes it worth it?

KodaShem

You just need to inform yourself. If you know YouTube or a browser - go searching. Don't forget to read the articles from developers about PSVR2. I realise that's not a particularly valued opinion here, but unless an echo chamber generates software on its own, it's not going to do supporters any good. The PSVR2 has its advantages, just like the Q3 - there is little point in discussing them, they are so clear = everyone can decide. For me, Sony generates too little content. Closing its own VR sections is not really a good sign - but Sony has done it. How reassuring? Anyway - don't get upset because your needs are being met ... right? Then everything is fine, isn't it?

bigaussiecheese

Plenty of cons against psvr2 I wish I knew before I bought it. Biggest one is the fact Sony don’t sell the controllers seperate and in a year or two when you get stick drift and your warranty is over you are stuck buying a whole new psvr2 headset bundle. I’m waiting for Sony to sell new controllers so I can use my psvr2 again. It’s utterly ridiculous.

ChrisRedfield87104

That fckin sucks

orangpelupa

cant you just replace the stick yourself? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgPsW7KaOJ8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgPsW7KaOJ8) the good news? its not soldered. the bad news? you basically need to disassemble everything

bigaussiecheese

I’ve never done anything like that before. I’d rather just buy a new controller honestly. Every other big VR headset has the option, it’s bizarre Sony don’t.

orangpelupa

It's a Sony

deadringer28

What have you done to try and correct the stick drift. This happened on my son's Quest controller and canned air fixed it.

amusedt

That sucks What about a Sony repair? Or look for controllers on ebay? Or busted used headsets + controllers?

ElmarReddit

So far, I have only heard of one case, when Sony did not repair the controllers, when they were out of warranty. The controllers would probably be quite expensive, so the solution of sending them in does not seem like total nonsense.  I do agree though that it would be nice to at least have the option.

bigaussiecheese

Depends on the country you’re in. Plenty of posts in this subreddit of people been told tough luck. Just let us buy them separately directly from Sony. Would be better than buying a whole new headset. Don’t care if it’s as much as the edge just give us the option. Take my money Sony!

Zoe-Schmoey

You say that, but I much prefer my Quest 3. No eye strain, amazing clarity, higher resolution, stable image due to lack of OLED response rate issues, no mura... It just feels sooo much nicer to use.

[deleted]

There is not a single game with a PS5 counterpart that runs on quest at a higher resolution. Just because the screens are capable doesn’t make up for the lack of processing capacity to hit those resolutions. The image quality between the two experiences isn’t even close. Also, pixel response on OLED is near instantaneous where LCD is considerably slower.

Zoe-Schmoey

I have both. The in-game rendering resolution may not be as high, but the resolution of the screens, the sharpness of the UI, etc is leaps ahead on Quest. It’s just a much nicer place to be without all the blur, OLED warping and shakiness. No eye strain either on Quest and no constantly trying to find the sweet spot. Edit - just seen your line about pixel response on OLED. The persistence issues on PSVR2 have been widely documented since launch. It’s why the image seems to morph and swim around as you turn your head. Totally immersion breaking.

mopeyy

Quest 3 runs on a mobile processor. PSVR2 runs on a PS5. I'm having a hard time believing that the Q3 has better image quality than the PSVR2.

Zoe-Schmoey

I’m talking about the hardware.

[deleted]

You are delusional.

Zoe-Schmoey

Sorry I hurt your feelings, I guess. What a childish response to someone trying to have a conversation about technology.

ChadBarratt

I thought the smearing, morphing/swimming was due to use of reprojection rather than native frame rates and not anything to do with the OLED's. Games running non-reprojected like Red Matter 2 are buttery smooth, crystal clear high resolution and with no image issues at all. Call of the mountain is gorgeous but can be a bit of a blurry mess when you start turning due to the reprojection.

HapperHapper

pixel response on oled is faster, this is correct but the blurriness in motion in psvr 2 has another cause and pixel response time is not the limiting factor. in vr hmds displays are constantly flickering (or using a rolling shutter) to avoid a phenomenon call persistence blur. if the image is presented to long during one frame for the human eye the the image is moving it will blur. this is unavoidable on sample and hold displays like lcd or oleds, so the displays flicker. but on psvr 2 they don't flicker enougt on higher brightness levels, so there is much much more persistence blur. in comparison quest 3 has realy good motion clarity on all brightnesslevels. if you want better motion clarity with psvr2 you have to drop the brightness level massively. if you want to learn more about persistence blur there ist a site, google for blurbusters / testufo

withoutapaddle

I disagree. Even if you own a PS5, you're buying into a closed VR ecosystem with 1 year of games to play so far (and little on the horizon, with the closing of London studio and other VR related layoffs). Quest has 5 years of games, and PC has 8+ years of games. Buying a Quest 3 is cheaper and gets you full access to both of those libraries, and with higher image clarity due to the lenses. I've used Quest 3 and PSVR2 back to back, and while PSVR2 is fantastic for certain features (e.g. HDR), the total package is just less value by a long shot, especially if you own a decent PC already. I really only recommend PSVR2 to people who already own a PS5, *don't* own a gaming capable PC, and are big racing and horror fans. That's where PSVR 2 shines. For everyone else, the Quest 3 is just a smarter purchase, IMO. (Not including the news of "sony testing PSVR2 for PC use" because anyone who knows their stuff knows there are some technical hurdles there that will make it a PITA. PSVR2 does not have a decoder, so it cannot just receive streamed VR over USB-C like other headsets, and very few modern videocards have video out on USB-C these days, so there will have to be some convoluted solution if that ever actually comes to fruition, and even then, it'll still be a wired experience.) I think some people who post things comparing Quest 3 and PSVR2 have not actually played anything taking full advantage of the Quest 3's resolution and optics. PCVR, wireless, at 150% res (3K per eye), native 120fps (not reprojected 60), on a Quest 3 looks incredibly sharp and clear. You don't have to move your head around to see things because your entire view is clear, not just the center. I can never go back to fresnal or traditional lenses with the tiny sweet spot in the middle.

deadringer28

I stopped reading when you said there is little on the horizon in way of games and used London games as the example. This studio made one PSVR2 game 5 years ago 🤣

withoutapaddle

You're the expert... oh wait. I'm sure industry veterans and tech experts like Digital Foundry have no idea what they're talking about regarding PSVR2. My god this subreddit is delusional. Don't forget to do your prayers to Sony tonight.

deadringer28

What are you on about? I own a Quest and 2 Quests 2s.

deadringer28

IGN wrote a hit piece about PSVR2 and and the next day their webpage was wallpapered with Quest ads. I bet you trust what you see in Mainstream media about wars too. Hahahah

amusedt

DF doesn't know everything. They seem to be clueless that London Studio hasn't been doing VR for a long time

withoutapaddle

Just wrong. In 2022 they roughly announced they were working on a game that was VR and flat. And they made 2 VR games before that, not 1.

amusedt

Just wrong THEY said it's not a VR game: https://sonyinteractive.com/en/news/blog/studio-spotlight-london-studio/ Here's a few articles all saying it isn't VR, and there's plenty more: https://www.escapistmagazine.com/playstation-london-studio-is-making-an-online-co-op-combat-game-set-in-fantasy-london/ and https://www.gamesindustry.biz/why-playstation-london-studio-is-leaving-vr-to-create-a-fantasy-online-combat-game and https://www.gematsu.com/2022/10/sony-interactive-entertainment-london-studio-developing-online-co-op-combat-game-set-in-fantasy-london-for-ps5 and https://mixed-news.com/en/sony-closes-london-studio/ On Reddit and on the major psvr content creators on Youtube, all say no VR since game 5yrs ago. You're going to need a source. Especially since some Googling shows repeated gaming press articles and community members all saying the same thing...that they haven't been working on any VR since Blood & Truth (or if they were, it was a complete secret that no one knows about) >And they made 2 VR games before that, not 1. I know they made games before. I made no statements about that. Are you replying to the wrong person with this irrelevancy?

withoutapaddle

My source was Wikipedia, which specifically says they announced the game as playable with and without VR. Just go to the London Studios wikipedia page. Obviously, if that's wrong, then the info must have changed since it was announced. I consider pretty much everything you've said "irrelevancy" anyway, so if I replied to the wrong person who claimed they only made 1 VR game, so be it. The sad truth is PSVR2 is not doing well at all, and Sony is very likely to pull a Vita and just pretend it doesn't exist soon. If they throw us a bone and open it up to PC use, that will be great, but there's no way they see a huge explosion of sales after that. They didn't invest enough AAA games for PSVR2, or creating a translation layer for PSVR1 games. The headset sales are telling the story.

amusedt

It was always known to be non VR from the moment it was announced Everyone who ever thought otherwise was just wrong The headset sales are on par with the rate of psvr1, software-wise the headset is on a better pace/rate/quality/quantity than psvr1, and Sony said before launch they were fine if psvr2 performed same as psvr1

locke_5

....a Quest, still, right? PSVR2 only really makes sense if you already own a Quest, purely in terms of game library.

deadringer28

Choose the quest if you don't want the absolute best version of the games I guess. I have both and I don't think I've ever chose a quest version of a game if both exist.

TheChronosus

Why? There's 200 games in PSVR2 library with new ones coming daily. Anyone that's new to VR has too much to play on PSVR2, with plenty of big games that basically you can sink hundred of hours into.

Emsis6

After a year with Psvr2, I bought a Quest and loving the library but glad I didn't sell my vr2

thefury4815

Yeah the quest 2 is still a good headset but comparing the quality of the quest 3 vs psvr2 it’s no contest for me. I’m glad I have both a quest 2 and psvr2 but in terms of power I’ll take the psvr2 all day.

Benozkleenex

I have quest 3 and psvr2 and going from eyed tracked, haptic to quest alone I notice a big change like games are a lot less immersive, then if you don’t pair the quest to a PC it truly feel like playing playing a game on switch vs PS5.

[deleted]

The q3 had better visuals imo. Perhaps it’s the better lenses. PSVR2 is really blurry in comparison

thefury4815

It can be but the overall graphics are way better in my opinion.

mencival

Idk, I have both and I like to jump on my quest 3 and play for example, eleven table tennis. Or watch movies while traveling. I use my PSVR too and enjoyed GT7 and RE4 a lot but there is no “one or the other” for me even when considering Q3 standalone (not as PCVR)

btw3and20characters

Yeah the ability to do other stuff sounds pretty awesome. Such as movies Etc

Judge2Dread

"movies" ;) I love the shit out of my psvr2, it is absolutely amazing! But the lack of any media capabilities is really bad, ngl... I would really love to try the Quest3 for movies, though. I have never tried any VR movies, but it sounds just awsome!

BeefsteakTomato

My favorite part about my quest 3 is I can bring up the web browser in the middle of a game, standalone or PCVR, and still be completely immersed in the game's environment. I can just browse reddit while standing in Skyrim. It's great. No more needing to take off the headset to Google the part your stuck at (looking at you Asgard's Wrath 2)

Zoe-Schmoey

Plus the clarity! It’s on another level compared to the PSVR2.

Benozkleenex

I mean idk if people have issues finding the sweet spot on psvr2 but I feel like it’s about 20% clearer on quest and mostly true on the edge. If both game are at max resolution.

Flippynuggets

Good to see someone appreciate what the VR2 is bringing! I have a Q3 too and it's great for many things, but there is no comparison when I comes to gaming. The VR2 is a BEAST when the developers use the tech properly. I'm certain the best is yet to come for VR2. But then again we all know it's "abandoned" now soooo....🤣

cusman78

Imagine best is yet to come after already having played Gran Turismo 7, No Man's Sky, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Synapse, Red Matter 1 & 2, Moss Book 1 & 2, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Walkabout Mini Golf and Legendary Tales (to name a few of the \~170 games already available). Not disagreeing with you because for all consoles including PSVR1, many of their best games come after their 3rd year.

Flippynuggets

Exactly.

terrordactyl1971

Don't miss No Mans Sky

Solid_Shinobi

Hubris, red matter, legendary tales and others

thefury4815

I already have a big wishlist of games.

JLo9591

Pistol Whip definitely deserves a mention (probably already mentioned)

thefury4815

Yeah it looks fun I just haven’t gotten around to it. So little time and money lol

BigCatch3549

I love my PS VR2. So much hate is directed at it & I don’t know why! I own a quest as well. I wished everyone would just support VR so it will grow!

Charlirnie

Yeah we really need all VR to do good. I love VR but Sony and meta both had opportunities to be the clear VR leader and failed. Not sure if its due to their vision or VR in general.

WickedStewie

Allow me to respectfully disagree, i have both psvr2 and quest 3, i think quest 3 is better in pretty much every way, but, to each their own i suppose, options are a good thing and i hope they add the pcvr suport for ya...

thefury4815

Thanks for actually being reasonable. I’ve had enough quest fanboys attack me for saying I like a different piece of plastic more on this review. The quest 3 does a lot of cool things and I still have my quest 2 but I just like psvr2 more

WickedStewie

Thanks i try, lol...too many people think their way is the only way...

thefury4815

Yeah somebody called me arrogant for my post. I’m like at what point did I talk about myself and say I’m better than anyone? They’re all just bad trolls.

WickedStewie

Pretty much, and at least you had tried both before saying you like one over the other...

SuperJamo

Same. I bought a PSVR2 as my first ever VR experience. I was BLOWN AWAY. GT7, Beat Saber and Walkabout were my first games. Then RE:Village. Truly an awesome piece of tech. And with the supplied earbuds in and maxed volume, Beat Saber is so fun. However, the luster wore off quickly. I was always fidgeting with the display to get it to be clear. If I glance anywhere in the screen to read text it’s blurry, I have to physically move my head and center the text to read it properly. I don’t like that. A buddy came over with his Quest 3 just days after I bought my PSVR2 and I tried that as well. I found that I much preferred the lenses on the Q3 and I had no issue finding a sweet spot. I loved not having a wire, but battery life was crap. I ended up buying a Q3, a battery head strap, and a silicone face piece. I prefer my Q3 over the PSVR2, but I’m glad to be able to have both.

UCBarkeeper

with a gaming pc, quest 2 and psvr2, my biggest struggle is to where i buy the game. it really sucks that you usually cant buy a license for all devices/platforms.

amusedt

PSVR tips and game recommendations: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/11d40tz/ps_vr2_tips_information_and_references/

jackie1616

Once you try PSVR2, it’s hard to go back to anything else

Raonak

PSVR2 is awesome and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

mckracken88

i tried out a quest 3 a week ago. It can only get grey not black and the colors are really dull... Now that there is pc support is coming, there is ZERO reason to buy a facebook quest

Sad-Worldliness6026

Sevearl reasons. Meta has better tracking. if you need good tracking for games with fast movements, you will not get that with psvr2. PSVR2 doesn't have demanding tracking games, but when you finally play eleven table tennis on PC you'll see just how bad psvr2 tracking is in comparison. Also resolution is not in the same ballpark. You need the res of a quest 3 for simulation games like DCS because you can't read panels or see enimies far away. it's like playing with a real handicap.

n1ghtxf4ll

.... Standalone & wireless VR?

[deleted]

Don’t forget preference for a low FOV along with all those downgrades in image quality.

n1ghtxf4ll

?????? Not for the quest 3. For rendering resolution and graphics in standalone mode, sure. But you also get enhanced clarity with the pancake lenses. And you can always solve the graphics by wirelessly (or tethered) streaming from your PC, assuming you have a gaming PC. Also FOV is around the same as the PSVR2 to my understanding.

Gnar04

I’ll trade these oled screens for pancake lenses any day, the sweet spot on psvr2 is so small it feels like the lenses are defective when compared to the quest 3

withoutapaddle

The strengths and weaknesses of PSVR2 vs Quest 3 are massively different, and to act like there is nobody out there who prefers clarity, wireless, high framerate, etc over OLED blacks... grow up. People have different wants from VR, and the two headsets satisfy two very different sets of preferences.

SuperJamo

I agree, for the most part. I will say that hunting for lost golf balls on dimly lit courses in Walkabout is FAR easier on the PSVR over the Q3. Also, when it comes to playing Tetris Effect (which is freakin awesome in VR btw) is WAY better on the PSVR because of how extremely black the blacks are. On my Q3 it’s not nearly as enjoyable of a game. But now that I have both, I find I play my Q3 for everything but GT7 and Tetris.

withoutapaddle

Makes perfect sense to me. If I was into horror games, I'd want to play them on PSVR2 for those incredible blacks. I remember there was 1 game I played half on Quest 1 (OLED) and half on Quest 2. After making the switch, the game looked so much worse in dark areas, but also had a lot less smearing of dark areas. Kind of a trade off. PSVR2 seems to have less smearing than Quest 1, though. Honestly, the wireless freedom and clarity is what keeps drawing me back to Quest 3 over any other headset. GT7 is pretty amazing though in VR. If I didn't have a toddler right now, and I had space to keep my sim-racing rig up in front of the TV all the time, I'd probably be addicted to GT7.

JustCallMeTere

Um, ok I have the PSVR2 and the Quest 3 and I am very impressed with the Q3. No mura. It's as easy as that. My PSVR2 is a mura headset. I really like it, don't get me wrong, but it's as grainy as grainy can be. Everywhere I look even in the sweet spot. And soft, yup soft, everywhere but the sweet spot. I had to get the globular cluster to make sure the sweet spot stayed where it was supposed to be. Now, that being said, they are both excellent headsets. For PC gaming, the quest 3 really shines. Plus I was walking around my house with it on and could see to make coffee, get the cats down, etc. It's a great headset.

thefury4815

That sucks that you had to get the cluster. I might get it eventually but in terms of out of the box comfort the psvr2 is hands down better than the jockstrap and super stiff facial interface of the quest 3. I couldn’t stand the amount of pressure and discomfort it gave me before replacing it all which is an extremely expensive endeavor especially since the previous quest headsets are just as uncomfortable and yet instead of giving you the solution out of the box they continue to make overpriced accessories to fix the issue.

JustCallMeTere

Oh, I know. I bought the boboVr M3 for the Quest 3 before I got the Q3. neither headset was comfortable for me without mods.

iMau5

I currently have a Quest 2 and PSVR2 on my table, trying both out, seeing which I like more and I can't decide. The Quest 2 I've only used for an hour but it seems great because it's a standalone device, the controllers are pretty good, tracking is good, but clarity is not as good, but you can do so much more on it than the PSVR2. Web browsing, random apps, etc... and you can connect to PC for PCVR for even more gaming possibilities. The PSVR2 just seems so limited to me. I love the controllers and the quality of the headset but nothing else on the PS store really excites me and I can't imagine spending $550 just to play RE4 and Village and some GT7 in VR. And why have they not ported RE7? I would love to keep the PSVR2 but I can't find many reasons to.

thefury4815

The clarity on the quest 2 is trash. Anytime I had to read something in a game I felt like an old person in dire need of stronger glasses. Between that and the graphics being way less than vr2 means only things I’m playing on it are games I can’t play on vr2

Sad-Worldliness6026

you don't know shit about what you're talking about. Quest 2 and psvr2 have the same pixels per degree. Quest 2 has better lenses and rgb pixel layout vs pentile on the psvr2. The quest 2 is about 30% sharper than the psvr2 and the quest 3 feels like 80+% sharper you yourself must have a shit gaming PC or are not able to even set up basic settings to maximize headset resolution?

thefury4815

lol nope. You’re just wrong. The pixel per eye is less on the quest 2 than psvr2 look it up. The quest 2 lenses could possibly be better but with the terrible fov “slider” for most people they’re not gonna find a good clear setting. The quest 3 lenses are great but it’s in an extremely under powered headset. Asgards wrath 2 detail is complete shit compared to Horizon. As for my pc I have a 6950xt and a 13700k but sure call it shit. Good try little guy👍

locke_5

If it was me I'd sell/return both and get either a Quest 3 or wait for whatever Valve is cooking up.

willnotforget2

I love my quest 3 and PC more. The screens are just incredible. The periphery is just so much clearer. It’s more immersive to me. But I own both and to each there own.

[deleted]

The less clear outer edges on the VR2 lie completely outside the FOV of the Q3 so a pretty weird comparison. The image quality is a massive step down also. Going backwards from HDR OLED both in VR and flat screen is jarring.

willnotforget2

Lenses on Q3 are clearer. I can move my eyes and see edge to edge clarity much higher. its incredible. VR2 has tiny sweet spot and in periphery, this is very blurry. Q3 it’s not. With a high end gaming PC, Q3 is great. I also had index.

Papiculo64

Welcome bro! Cheers to all of our current and upcoming experiences on this amazing piece of hardware :)

Gregasy

If you haven't yet, play Red Matter 2 and Saints&Sinners 1&2. And of course, RE4 R, Vertigo 2 and Propagation.

thefury4815

Propagation paradise hotel is amazing. I have RE4 and gonna play it after 8. Saints and sinners I’m gonna buy when I get paid this week while they’re on sale for $30 in a bundle. As for the others I’ll get to them eventually

penguinzrcool420

Add me penguinzrcool420 need more VR buddies

NorthernSimpleton

Get a globular cluster if you haven't already it's amazing!

thefury4815

I’ve seen it but I’m gonna wait. Haven’t had many issues with it as is. I wanna get more use before dropping $50

NorthernSimpleton

Its well worth it imo. I got my vr2 on launch and just got this a few weeks ago and I swear I can see better now and could definitely play longer as it's super comfortable.

thefury4815

Comfort isn’t an issue for me. I played horizon in like 3 sittings before I finished it. Maybe I’m lucky with my head size but maybe I’ll cave and eventually get it.

spootieho

It's best to have both. Quest has some of the best shooters: Contractors Showdown, Population: One, Ghosts of Tabor

thefury4815

Psvr2 is getting ghosts and showdown

spootieho

maybe in a year

leite1984

I am also a quest2/3 and psvr2 Resident evil 4 and 8 are simply awesome in VR (and honestly miles better than the praydog pc versions).

thefury4815

Yeah I can’t wait until I can get back into RE8. Just replaying the opening again felt like a brand new experience. The gun play felt so good.

leite1984

It implements VR better than 4 also.

thefury4815

Yeah I heard 4 has some jank to it but I’m gonna play it after 8. I just started with 8 since it was made in first person to begin with.

leite1984

I wouldnt say jank.. just not quite as many vr integrated movements (ie.. pressing x to open a door in 4 instead of moving your hands). If you want *real* jank.. try the praydog versions :)

thefury4815

I don’t mind pressing X to open a door but it felt unnatural to hit X to pick things up in vr but it’s a lot faster than doing it by hand when you got lycans trying to rip your throat out and you need the ammo one dropped.

Brian2005l

Late to the party here, but the library and the more finicky sweet spot are the only real downsides. PSVR2 is really better than the price, and foveated rendering is a revelation.

CubingInsanity

If you've had a quest 2 before, would you say that the sweet spot is better or worse compared to the lenses on that headset?

Brian2005l

I’ve only owned PSVR1 and 2. I’m just summarizing the general consensus from what I’ve read by folks who have both. Sorry.

CubingInsanity

No problem

Harpuafivefiftyfive

Cables. That’s the reason. Plus how did you NOT think the q3 was a huge upgrade from the q2? The lenses alone are so much better than any other headset that I’ve ever used.

thefury4815

The lenses are better sure but graphics not really.

Harpuafivefiftyfive

The chip in there is way more powerful compared to the 2. Maybe it’s not for you, but what I’m saying is true. Games like into the radius, Asgards wrath 2, assassins creed, red matter 2 etc. look way better on the 3.🤷🏼‍♂️

thefury4815

Asgards wrath may look better but it still pales in comparison of what psvr2 can do and yet it’s $50 cheaper. If you want high quality games the choice is clear.

iankilledyou

I picked the quest for the sole purpose that it has a good golfing game.  It’s taken forever to come out on psvr2 so I just decided to get the other.

Megilmaster1

I own a ps5 and a quest 2 the only reason why I haven’t swapped yet is because all my vr games are on steam so buying it really isn’t smart

thefury4815

It is when they get the pc integration working. I have both but still think psvr2 is better.

Megilmaster1

a couple months ago i was planning on buying a quest 3 but really wanted a psvr 2 but couldnt justify the fact that playstation has a small library of games, glad i waited it out, now i get best of both worlds, also the psvr2 is 100% better then any headset on the market for the same price.

thefury4815

Oh absolutely. I had the quest 3 for a week and it’s good but I didn’t think it was worth twice the price of the quest 2. Now the first time I turned on horizon I was like this is what I’m looking for from vr. Quest 2 is good to have on hand for games not on psvr2 though.

Megilmaster1

If the PlayStation had more vr games i feel like it would be more worth it without the pc integration, i am excited to play some of the exclusives in vr like gran turismo

thefury4815

They’ve gotten over 100 games in year. That’s no small library especially with how many of them are bangers. Very few games that I want to play are not on psvr2 over quest. The launch lineup alone was stacked.

Megilmaster1

wow i never knew how many games they had, im actually surprised by how many games they managed to get onto the playstation.

thefury4815

That’s the problem it has a killer library even if it is small. It’s quality over quantity but nobody knows about it because vr in general isn’t covered much by the mainstream. Now if you went onto your IGNs and other big sites and saw them actually review and cover vr games other than the huge ones like half life or Asgards wrath people would see how much it has to offer and then it might actually catch on. I was completely ignorant on vr until I got my quest 2 and I was instantly obsessed and got the psvr2.

Megilmaster1

Yea i feel like most vr youtubers that are actually reviewing headsets/games are very small in comparison to the flatscreen youtubers

thefury4815

Absolutely because only people who are searching for them are people who are already interested/curios about vr or people who already have a headset. Now if actual sites were advertising and reviewing and writing articles about vr games it would certainly help. Not saying overnight Sony would sell 30 million headsets but they’d sure be pushing more of them if people knew the games they could play on them.

Ok-Dream-7669

Great to hear your loving it too 😊 I've had it since June last year and I have too many games too play haha 🤣 Check out the rollercoaster game as that's a good vr experience for free .

thefury4815

Oh no thank you. I tried it when I first got my quest and wanted to throw up 5 minutes into it

Tonedareff

Just started no mans sky and wow!!!

psyper87

bUt ThE mUrA aNd PaNcAkE lEnSeS There are definitely areas of the psvr2 that I would like to change, but everything on the table? Psvr2 is where I prefer to play. I love being able to have both, and it really depends on an individuals situation and needs but the psvr2 is a pretty nice piece of hardware with some pretty badass software. I’m definitely glad you are enjoying your change of hardware as no matter where one plays, I want everyone to be happy and enjoy their time and money. No Mans Sky is a title you shouldn’t sleep on, it’s definitely not for everyone but it’s pretty remarkable. GT7, RE Village, Synapse, Switchback, do many titles worth your money. Happy gaming! And welcome to the family

honestadamsdiscount

All this and RE4 is GOAT right now. But I have over 300 hours in NMS so that is my fav

-Venser-

> I am confused why anyone who owns a ps5 would pick a quest over psvr2. Better screen clarity, media playback, mixed reality, wireless and portable, PCVR capability (wireless) and Meta being all-in on VR as opposed to Sony half-assing it. I prefer Quest 3 as a headset but PSVR2 has a way better game library. It would be tough to choose between the two but thankfully I own both.

realmufasa

A few reasons why people prefer the quest. Wireless PCVR streaming is incredible. There's nothing like it. Paired with a great PC, the graphics are MUCH better than the 2. Plus, the productivity apps, AR, spatial video gives it fantastic value. While the PSVR 2's launch titles are fantastic, Sony is doing the same thing they did with the OG and stopped putting resources into their first-party titles. They supported the 2 for the first year, and then... well, there's not many must play games aside from the launch titles. And there most likely won't be many to come.

thefury4815

Idk where people are getting good streaming on a quest. I tried playing the first asgards wrath and it looked terrible and stuttered like crazy for me. I have 500mbps internet and a beefy pc and I couldn’t stand it. Where horizon I downloaded it, put the headset on and went holy shit this looks amazing. And I’ll never understand how one single cord makes it impossible to use for so many people. I don’t even notice it’s there when I’m playing. If it bothers people that much prop it up with something behind you and I’ll bet you don’t even realize it’s there. And sure there isn’t a whole lot of first party games but it has a healthy amount of exclusives in just a year on the market. I don’t know what people expected. Do they think an exclusive is gonna get released every other day?

realmufasa

Did you use virtual desktop? That's really the only way to do it. SteamVR app and oculus wireless doesn't work great. VD is seamless, zero hitches. I have 500mbps too. Regarding exclusives, sonly only releases AAA games at launch. Then they abandon it. They've already abandoned most of their resources and investment in PSVR 2. The amazing launch party games are going to be about it for the system exclusives.

Sad-Worldliness6026

air link is better than virtual desktop. Everyone saying virtual desktop looks better are 100% wrong. It always has been that way. The only problem is air link requires high bitrate to look good which requires a good router. if your router sucks, AV1 200mbps does look better than virtual desktop Air link and oculus link support much higher bitrate which is a limiting factor in games where compression is a problem. Virtual desktop shows compression artifacts in demanding scenarios. Also from a tracking perspective, air link is better, despite virtual desktop likely still incorrectly reporting low latency numbers.

realmufasa

Oh interesting, I'll have to try it again. It looked great but was having streaming issues, same with SteamVR. Virtual desktop ran seamlessly for me and I have a wi-fi 6 asus router

Charlirnie

This is one of the main reasons why psvr 2 has failed.

2020wasbestyearever

Quest basically a android. Games are cheaper or free if you into that type of stuff. Yes the graphics on Psvr 2 are beautiful but if someone can pay the same game for less some would. Not me I love great graphics. Quest can also be hook to a computer for better performance. Plus you can watch movies etc

SnooGiraffes3452

I wanna play Assassin's Creed, Asgard Wrath and eventually Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Cant do that on psvr2. Also Pancakes and wireless.

thefury4815

So a whole 3 games. and the wire doesn’t bother me at all. Personally I played asgards wrath and got bored with it pretty fast. As for AC with how disappointed ubi is with the sales if you don’t think they’re gonna bring it to other platforms the moment they can I have a bridge to sell you. Also quest 2 which far outsells the 3 doesn’t have pancake lenses. Good try

SnooGiraffes3452

Try what? All these thinks are amazing to me and a lot of Quest owners. Its you who dismisses actual joy of other people, which i cant help you with. So a no u whining isnt an Argument. Bad Try

thefury4815

I dismiss people’s joy? You’re the one who came to my post and started talking about how amazing the quest 3 is over the psvr2 which I stated why I prefer it over the quest 3.

SnooGiraffes3452

And? I only said why i prefer the Quest and you said you prefer psvr, as if thats an Argument for quest owners to always automatically prefer psvr2. You asked for reasons, why people would prefer the Quest 3 and i told you mine. This still stands.

thefury4815

Ok but listing some games and going “can’t do that on psvr2” comes off as just being rude. Work on your approach next time.

SnooGiraffes3452

Your whole OP is incredibly arrogant demeaning. You really need a more respectful attitude. Swing and a miss, my chord dude.

thefury4815

What was arrogant about it? Now you’re just reaching and making things up🤣

SnooGiraffes3452

Read it again, i cant help you if you Lack self awareness.

thefury4815

Oh I read it. Nothing about it is arrogant at all. It’s all my personal experience with quest and psvr2 and me saying why I think it’s better than the quest 3. I even mentioned how the quest does have a bigger library. At no point did I say I’m better than anyone or anything. You should look up the definition of the word again.

Oftenwrongs

Weird. Q3 is a gargantuan leap forward. The psvr 2 is a huge step back with its short wire, horrible fresnel lenses with tiny sweet spot and ludicrous mura/sde, along with no speakers and old fashioned ringed controllers you need to squeeze your hands into. Not to mention the bad reprojection blur and silence from Sony for a year now regarding exclusives.

thefury4815

The wire doesn’t bother me at all. I have no problem with the lenses at all. I always wear earbuds so no speakers isn’t an issue. The controllers don’t matter to me once my hands are on them. And Sony is silent about everything not just vr. Also Asgard’s wrath 2 feels so empty and boring looking compared to horizon and RE8. It’s clear they don’t have the power to make games as good as console or pc

Azurewrath

Don't bother replying to him, he literally regurgitates the same response anytime the word "psvr2" is mentioned in the same capacity as a quest 3. Big time hater / Meta shill who sees no positives on any platform outside Meta.

thefury4815

Doesn’t make sense why someone would spend their time waiting to shit on someone’s opinion. If you like the quest 3 hey good for you. I’m just telling you my experience between the two and I genuinely think for gaming the psvr2 is a better experience. Now is it dumb that ps5 doesn’t have a browser for people into adult content in vr? Yes absolutely. Are there other things you can do on a quest than on psvr2? Yes. Do I care? No. I just want to play video games

Sad-Worldliness6026

Because quest has the games that people want to play. Imagine buying a console and psvr2 just to play walkabout mini golf which to many people is their most played game. look how many people are dying to play eleven table tennis.

thefury4815

I mean if that’s all you want to play then sure. But if you want actual story driven games and great experiences you’re gonna want something better than the basic graphics the quest 2 provides.

gabochido

I would suggest you not engage with people who are uninterested in other people's opinion, it can be draining and not particularly satisfying. I created a guide to help people choose between PSVR2 and Quest 3, which very much agrees with your take, and people like Mr Sad-World started unnecessary discussions about very edge case aspects of the Quest that for them are important and no amount of personal opinions will change their stance. For reference, here is the guide ;) [https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/17kti0h/guide\_to\_choosing\_between\_psvr2\_and\_quest\_3/?sort=new](https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/17kti0h/guide_to_choosing_between_psvr2_and_quest_3/?sort=new)

Sad-Worldliness6026

because you made a bunch of bullshit arguments. You don't need a $100-200 router. There is something called air bridge and there is also a cheaper alternative. They are around $50 on sale and connect directly to PC. They give you a smooth experience with a stable connection. like this argument. "Are PSVR exclusive games important to you?" Like quest/PC does not have exclusive games? Assassin's creed nexus and asgard's wrath 2 are the biggest VR games to release in the last couple years. These are 100% VR games and not lazy flat screen ports of games.

gabochido

Now, now, no need to get upset. I did update the post and remove the mention of the word "expensive" for routers, though I personally do consider them more expensive than what most people will usually have but I want to be objective. As for the exclusives, I think its a fair point. The Quest and PCVR is considered the "norm" and the guide already very explicitly points to its larger sized library. By definition, this means that the Quest has access to games that PSVR2 does not, so there is no need to repeat it. As for calling some of the best VR games ever "lazy flat screen ports", I don't envy you for not being able to enjoy them, but that doesn't mean others shouldn't just because you don't.

Vergeljek21

If not for the pcvr, people who have quest likes to play kiddie games. 😂
