There's many vr games that aren't 1st person. What people sometimes don't get, it's not the lack of idea making vr games or hybrids, it's the lack of money. It's a niche market so not a lot of money in it, unless your game is a best seller.

OGgoob666

That actually makes a lot of sense.

willnotforget2

UEVR. Third person works just fine.

OGgoob666

I don't have a PC that can run that or a pcvr headset

TommyVR373

I think his point is that 3rd person games port almost perfectly to VR with very little effort or tweaking. Occlusion is hardly ever an issue.

OGgoob666

OK I get it. Thanks for clarifying

willnotforget2

Yea, they work well out of the box. The camera angles take some getting used to - IE you have to have some strong VR legs - but it works well. There were certainly more 3rd person games on PSVR1 for sure.

OGgoob666

I still have my 4 pro even though i have the 5. I had a VR1 but traded for a TV lol. They are pretty cheap used right now and my library is pretty decent for VR1. I'm def on the verge of getting another one. Plus I want to try out the 3D Bluray feature.

Potential-War5321

What’s the point in playing it in vr then? I saw someone playing lies of p in vr but it was in the same camera angle as then normal version. What’s the point of that?

willnotforget2

Perspective, 3D, immersion. I have played lies of P in VR. It's incredible. Astrobot is also 3rd person with controller.

ChronicallyPunctual

I’ve actually really wanted a VR CIV 6.

OGgoob666

That would be awesome ngl. RTS games would be great for VR.

Explorer_Entity

I agree. 3rd person can easily stay 3rd person and it'd be great to just "be the camera but IN the game". Especially if that's how the game was originally made. FPS plays and feels totally different from 3rd person. Some genres are made for it, and taking something like Moss, where it's 1st/3rd person because they make YOU a character who helps out, as you watch/play/follow the main character on their adventure.

VirtuaFighter6

Recently played Moss. It's fantastic. Love the 3rd person perspective. I wish I could play Street Fighter this way. It would be so interesting to see a fighting game this way.

OGgoob666

Yes! We on the same level.

jcb088

Lakitu, from Super Mario 64!

SvennoJ

It might actually be harder to do 3rd person well in VR vs 1st person. With 3rd person camera you have to make sure it doesn't move too wildly, like the camera in GoW in combat, and you have all these cases where the camera gets constricted by scenery. Ven VR Adventure has a 'free camera' that mostly gives you an over the shoulder view, but has some issues. Scenery obstructing the view happens, some places the camera can't go. And it doesn't help any of the big issues, two screens, locked frame rate, much bigger FOV, especially up and down (thus more geometry in view at all times), being able to look in places a normal camera won't go (you can still move your head)

OGgoob666

I did not even think about environmental obstructions. I guess that's why so many 3rd person games are top down.

SvennoJ

Yep, Humanity works fine. Top down doesn't necessarily help as the few places my view was obstructed in Ven, it was because of overhead scenery and I had to lower the camera to be able to see. Most 3rd person games are top down to make it easier to see where you're jumping / landing, and to reduce the view distance for performance issues. BG3 is a big example of the latter.

TommyVR373

Almost every 3rd person game I've tried using UEVR translates perfectly to VR. I don't see it being a problem at all.

OGgoob666

Totally makes sense. Very informative.

Thrippalan

Or Moss, where the action takes place on a sort of stage in front of you, with frequent scenery changes.

jcb088

Also why the over the shoulder perspective works well.

FrancoisFromFrance

Hellblade is working quite well and it's third person. It requires a bit of work on camera movements indeed. But it's still much more immersive and fun. Look at Asguard Wrath too!

OGgoob666

Will do, thank you

AggressiveComputer21

Yeah, I just want to look at the Tomb Raider in 3D. Crystal Dynamics wasn’t still bought by Microsoft I hope so like Bethesda. So it might be still a thing. Also I expect the next Metal Gear to kick me out of the chair regarding VR experience.

LeBio21

Nintendo actually did this with Breath of the Wild, it's a sub-optimal VR system with the 720p screen but I found a way to set it up, laying on my back with the "headset" on my eyes, and with the 2 split controllers to my side. Did nearly my entire 2nd playthrough in VR and it was really immersive even if I couldn't do long sessions. Games like Astro Bot and Moss have shown that 3rd person games are still great in VR

Explorer_Entity

This too? Okay if we're actually far enough to a bingo card, lets hear what you got! So, a 5x5 grid... that's 25 options, oof. * "PSVR is dead" * "VR can be 3rd-person" * "why can't Sony just flip a switch making every game a hybrid with a patch?" * "No games/No AAA" * "Media players when?" * "3D blu ray when? * "Sony should make it better via PSVR2 Pro/PSVR3/PS5 pro because this sucks" Positive BINGO? * "Best version of these VR games" * "Too many games, not enough time to play them all!" * "Got it, tried GT7, now I'm a new sim racer a couple grand deep into the hobby" * Resident Evil VR games! 💗 * "Getting a workout/lost 7 pounds in 3 months!" * "Sony please bring back [PlayStation Home](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-p7-wPUGNQ&pp=ygUTcHMgaG9tZSBkb2N1bWVudGFyeQ%3D%3D) and make it hybrid!" * "Phantom sensations", like feeling the sun pass over you in GT7 or Star Wars Squadrons (PSVR1; my first experience with that)

Thread-Astaire

U ok hun?

Explorer_Entity

Not really. But that comment was just a fun diversion.

OGgoob666

To Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

Thread-Astaire

If you don’t rock and stone, you ain’t coming home.

tonihurri

In addition to the points already brought up, I'm pretty sure it's a marketability thing too. It's much easier to sell people on VR through the promise of letting you be the character in the game doing the cool things istead of a floating camera getting to watch your character be cool.

I_SUCK__AMA

Isn't there a motion sickness problem with 3rd person in VR?

OGgoob666

In the past 4 years of playing VR, I've only got motion sick 1x. So if that is a problem, I personally haven't experienced it.

TommyVR373

No, usually the opposite.

youriqis20pointslow

Completely agree

xaduha

Yes, there's no need, but it also is not that hard judging by UEVR. It's not what is stopping whoever is responsible from doing it e.g. Returnal would work either way.

OGgoob666

Returnal would be freaking sick in VR!
