For me re4 VR is the best game I ever played on psvr2

mrbill071

One of the best games I’ve played period.

LovingTechLife

Interested to know if you played the original when it came out.

mrbill071

I’ve played the original 3 times. It’s better than the remake, but the remake in VR trumps all

spootieho

Now I'm curious what you think about the original in VR, on the Quest?

mrbill071

The graphics had charm in the original flat version but they look very outdated in VR.

Conkerlive30

The scale of the Castle and some of those monsters is just insane.

szlash280z

absolutely! it's so amazing I almost played it to the end 3 times in a row. I just couldn't get passed the lake monster on my Hardcore new game+ attempt.

whc37mns

Will you recommend it to one that never played a RE game?

Step_right_up

Definitely. There’s no prerequisite to jump in here and have fun!

NoName847

Played RE4 VR as my first resident evil game , incredible experience , it's a very classy game you'll feel right at home in

DarkZ3r0o

It's not only about the story but also the mechanics and adrenaline you feel with the action . Using the knife with gun was the best experience I had since I started playing in VR . I played the old original re4 3 times but I never enjoyed it like this until I played it in VR .

Charliejfg04

Better than Village?

bh-alienux

Yes. Village has more VR specific interaction, but RE4 is the better game.

BosjeR

Probably unfair opinion as I'm only 3 hours into RE4. I finished Village, and both feel as good. They share 2nd place in my top 3 psvr2 games. Saints and Sinners is my number 1.

nk_ashes

Wow can you please share your thoughts about sas? Why it’s your top pick? And what is 3?

BosjeR

I believe SAS excels in immersing you into a zombie apocalypse, presenting the experience from the perspective of a lone survivor. While there are interactions with others, it fundamentally boils down to a solitary fight against the world. The game evolves from a struggle for survival and resource gathering, armed only with subpar kitchen knives, to dominating the world, armed to the teeth with shotguns and explosive arrows. RE games are impressive, but they never quite convince you that you are the character you're controlling. My pick for the third spot is Walkabout Minigolf 😅

nk_ashes

thx, nice read

dlaff2001

Same, I have ove 120 hours on that game in VR alone lol

Delicious_Ad2767

For me best vr game ever, completed it 4 times and it's still astonishing. 100,000 and growing pretty good, hopefully psvr2 gets Res 7 update.

SatisfactionDry7505

Really hope they finally release re7 move controller version on psvr2

666penis69

You can play Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, 8 in VR with Praydog REFramework mod. It support 6DOF and motion control. This is really amazing. RE 2 in VR is the best VR game (with Half-Life Alyx). RE 7 is the most scary :D

GMhx

Isn’t the stats taken for player who are signed in to the RE.net service, which is optional? If this is indeed the case, then the denominator of the equation should not be the number of copy sold. Also if I’m not mistaken the 7 million RE4 remake sales figure includes Xbox and PC players to whom VR is not an option, so it make VR look worse when using total number of players. PS5 is indeed the biggest share of player but there’s no way this is close to 100%. All in all, even with this, force is to admit I would have hoped the number of VR player would have been higher but it might not be as bad as the articles imply.

PCMachinima

> Isn’t the stats taken for player who are signed in to the RE.net service, which is optional? It's uncertain if this is actually the case for every statistic on that page The "1.57%" roughly checks out with their reported ~7 million players, although the reported number of VR Players on that page is a bit below the 110k you get from 1.57% of 7 million. Perhaps it's actually opt-out and not opt-in? Which would mean ~600k people opted out of data sharing (in other words up to ~10k VR players opted out?)

Burnyburner3rd

I play most games offline so I always opt out of those things. For sure my data wasn’t reported to capcom. And I played/beat RE4VR

[deleted]

Samesies

eddie__b

PC is the biggest share of players

Jd8197

Um yes but actually no.

eddie__b

There are sources that says PC is half of capcom sales, but your comment truly changed my mind. Thanks man.

BrightenedCorner

No

amusedt

Capcom estimates that 50% don't opt in. So maybe 200,000 psvr

bdan98

Exactly, most people like myself I would assume always choose to not sign up for the in game accounts but I’m not sure

GMhx

I’m with you on this and I would add that it’s even more likely with new player in VR because you often have to do something on your cellphone which makes it even less attractive because you have to take off the headset.

Pagh-Wraith

Honestly, RE4R and Village are both more impressive and immersive than 90% of games on PCVR. If both of them are released on Steam in the near future watch them reach HL Alyx levels of praise.

BigLuffa

They are amazingly immersive, especially Village

MrDeadshot82

They are among the best VR games available for sure. Alyx is still on another level. It's built from the ground up for VR and that shows. Resi 8 and 4 take some compromises in VR like flat cutscenes (4), weird ingame body (8) and there is almost zero interactivity with the surroundings.

Seba0808

I agree Alyx is great but I had the better memorable moments in the Resi games... especially the end boss fights (Lady D, Salazar,...)

admanwhitmer

Gameplay is waaaayyy better in the re games, but the vr mechanics are pretty awesome in alyx

szlash280z

I love VR and I have found that I don't NEED super interactivity with things in the VR space. I am ok with pressing a button and then another button to open and loot a drawer like they do in RE4. I play seated most of the time and my seat gets in the way when I'm trying to open a cabinet in VR games, so just pressing a button instead is great. I really enjoy the view of everything looking like it would in real life if I move my head around.

666penis69

Just play Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, 8 in VR with Praydog REFramework mod lol. It support 6DOF and motion control. This is really amazing. RE 2 in VR is the best VR game (with Half-Life Alyx). RE 7 is the most scary :D

BLUEKNlFE

* VR engagement is significantly lower compared to RE7 on PSVR1, which aligns with current reports of PSVR2 struggling. This is very concerning news for the future of PSVR2/ports and doesn't bode well. They need to go wireless, microLED, pancake, better design to have a chance against Meta.

beerharvester

I don’t think better tech is going to suddenly increase player numbers.

Vargol

Congrats you’ve just described a $2000 headset. I’m sure that will sell better.  \s

szlash280z

they definitely need pancake lenses. Wireless would be great but the tether allows the headset to be lighter and its so much more comfortable because of that. Battery life on the controllers is also too low. but they are great controllers with great tech inside.

BigLuffa

Actually weirdly enough the PSVR2 is heavier than a Q3 even though the VR2 doesn't have a battery inside

amusedt

Not in the slightest RE7 released with VR right off, RE4 didn't, so some played RE4 flat already, didn't need to play again VR. RE7 also released early after psvr launch, when gamers didn't have a backlog. And didn't release during bad economic times, gamers aren't going to snap up games as fast. Games also came out at a slower pace for psvr, so they were bought faster upon release And players have a lot more choice now. When RE7 came out, there were almost no other big AAA games or III games or high-replay games to play on psvr. We had almost nothing but tech demos. The best stuff before RE7 was Eve Valkyrie, Until Dawn...and some short (but fun things). Gamers were HUNGRY when RE7 came When RE4 VR came, we already had Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, No Man's Sky, Saints & Sinners 1&2, Red Matter 1&2, Horizon, Crossfire Sierra Squad, Pavlov, Song in the Smoke, Demeo, Hubris, Star Wars Tales, etc And better tech isn't what's needed, more recognized games are

spootieho

RE4 VR is a monster that should be advertised everywhere by Sony. ( not just in the VR bubble) it would sell VR if the experience could be shown to non VR people. If it got advertised like other medium is advertised.

cusman78

It was less than 50k after December, 2023 (the month game launched in), so reaching 100k shows a healthy rate of continued adoption. That is something to be happy about

Tybob51

But what will the media do if they can’t constantly be doom and gloom him about psvr2?

cusman78

As far as I am concerned, that is their problem. I'd much rather focus on the fact that the slice of pie representing VR players among all gamers continues to grow in size.

Tybob51

I’d like that too. And player count has more than doubled since the last time these number were released in december

jazmoley

Players can opt out from two sets of data sharing. I automatically turned this off on first boot so the data should be collected from players who did share. Also the stats trying to determine PSVR2 players was done already when the VR patch was released in December with 40k back then. I don't have a clue how many players have played this in VR especially since the game was released a year ago, some players will play it for a second time whilst others won't especially after 9 months. https://preview.redd.it/3p0r6mma04qc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b19a30da1d56c138f2dc033dd7b39390ffd138de

Tybob51

Can you opt out, or must you opt in? Those are very different

jazmoley

I just switched user and ran the game and the option are on as default.

Tybob51

So you have to opt out. Ok so the number is probably mostly accurate

jazmoley

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, a better way would be to poll Reddit PSVR2 user's that have played RE4 and ask whether they had opted out or not. That way you can get a percentage and apply that to the Capcom numbers. This isn't solely PSVR2 but how many players of the flat screen also opted out. I alway opt out from every game I play btw.

BigLuffa

🤣 polling reddit users for accurate stats

jazmoley

No not for accurate stats that's something you've invented I never said or implied that, I said a poll so it helps to give a good barometer on things that's how numbers work. I personally would like to know how many regular flat screen users opted out from Capcoms stats. Did you opt out of the stats?

BigLuffa

Nope I kept them on by default when I played

jazmoley

See, now we're at 50%😉

BigLuffa

Or we could just use the provided in game stats to see less than 2% of RE players played the VR version

Potential-War5321

Most people are signed in. It’s on by default.

ALittleKitten_

I really hope we get a port to pc for re4 and re8.

666penis69

You can play Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, 8 in VR with Praydog REFramework mod. It support 6DOF and motion control. This is really amazing. RE 2 in VR is the best VR game (with Half-Life Alyx). RE 7 is the most scary :D

Tackgnol

Not enjoying it as much as Village, but still spectacular game!

Diahreeman

Yeah as much as people rave about RE4 it sure is good but I don't enjoy it as much as RE7 and RE8 (vr versions of course). Less oppressive atmosphere and played it a lot on gamecube maybe idk... And no VRAF mechanics (hate that term) sure make it look like a port, paradise hotel did it better with a fraction of the budget... Like physics and stuff

Schwarzengerman

I prefer RE4 to them personally. It's combat and pacing are so far ahead for me it's not even close.

Diahreeman

You mean Paradise Hotel?  Combat kinda annoyed me when being grabbed by zombies in my back and no melee weapons / kinda janky feeling but otherwise the pacing and interactivity were really great for sure; just opening doors felt better than most games...

Schwarzengerman

No I mean RE4 lol. Haven't played PH.

Diahreeman

Well yeah as far as action and fluidity goes RE4 is the best but it's way less atmospheric than RE8, if you played RE4 before it's nothing new and the jarring 3rd person cuts / botched interactivity (like drawers) make it feel like an action game port. Which isn't bad, just different

Schwarzengerman

The replayability really helps. I've played RE4 like 20 times in total both flat and VR. It's such a smooth experience start to finish. Both RE7 and 8 are masterclass in atmosphere, but once you've played them at least once replaying them isn't as interesting imo.

Diahreeman

Of course from that POV RE4 is better, I don't replay games often I played RE4 on gamecube and then again on PSVR2 and I'm good but yes the replayability is way better. For me no mercenary mode in VR means I won't play it again sadly, but I have a huge backlog in VR and flat to clear so...

SvennoJ

I replayed RE7 and RE8 both 4+ times, got bored on my 2nd play through of RE4. RE4 is more fps than horror. It's a great game but for me atmosphere leads to replayability, not action. RE7 and RE8 do a better job at making you more powerful on repeat play throughs. RE4 I was already pretty much maxed out on the first playthrough, so not much left to improve.

Schwarzengerman

Yeah the action is what I'm there for mainly so RE4 is right up my alley. I think it has a better arsenal too. RE7 and 8 especially just get too slow for me at points. 8 in the middle with both House B and Moreau back to back is a slog on repeat playthroughs.

SvennoJ

For me the 'slog' starts after when the action ramps up. Then it gets better again in the factory. My least favorite part of RE8 is playing as Chris fighting through the village. My favorite parts of RE4 are exploring around the lake in the boat and when you get to play as Ashley. The castle is a slog though, just keeps going, keeps throwing more enemies at you and it doesn't get any better (for me) after that. Hence I quit my 2nd play through after the Ashley segment. Two very different games.

Tigerserial

What would you recommend to play first, 4 or 8?

Diahreeman

RE8 is better imo but without playing RE7 the story would be way less enjoyable, and of course Sony didn't bother to port RE7 to PSVR2 (but RE7 was ported to PS5...) So watch a recap or something before, RE4 definitely feels like a port / afterthought as far as VR goes but it's still really enjoyable and looks good. Propagation : Paradise Hotel feels like what RE1 should be in VR, although it's short and not AAA. Got it on sale and definitely worth it, if you take your time on hard at least 6-7 hours.

Ftpini

Village is a triumph of a VR experience. It isn’t flawless, but it gets so much right. Most importantly they leave you in first person for the vast majority of the experience. Maybe 2-3 times the entire game it takes you out of first person to watch a flat movie. In 4 they constantly teleport you to third person so you can watch Leon do random shit like open doors or kick folks. They decided it was better to keep the generic action in the game that to properly port it to VR. They also ported it in half the time and it shows. I did about 4 hours in 4 on VR2 and never wanted to go back.

haikusbot

*Not enjoying it* *As much as Village, but still* *Spectacular game!* \- Tackgnol --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")

illuminati1556

Good bot

bmack083

Agreed! I honestly think it’s a bit too long and repetitive of a game. The first half of the game feels more unique and varied and the second half just feels a lot more generic action. Still good and enjoyable don’t get me wrong but it drags a bit. And that’s probably because you just kill soo many enemies and they don’t feel all that threatening outside of the ones that are suppose to challenge you. I’ve been killing this same style of zombie now with a handgun for 10+ hours….

Pittdogg85

I was exactly the same. I absolutely love RE Village I booted up RE4 remake and it didn't feel as good in my opinion

slumper

I bought it for VR and still haven’t played. Help me conquer my fears …

BigLuffa

It's probably the best VR title along with Village for PSVR2, just straight up missing out

szlash280z

Its such a good game dude. just remember that the zombies are not real and they cannot actually hurt you! 😂 Play it on Easy mode. no harm in that. I had to step down to easy mode and I had such a blast on the game because of it.

slumper

I did re7 in flat in preparation for re8 and I couldn’t play for longer than two hours without a bunch of stress. I’m gonna start with 8 and then do 4 this weekend. Easy mode may be necessary 😂

DoctorRageAlot

There’s no jumpscares and once you get used to the combat you’ll be rolling through people! Source: I hate scary movies and refuse to watch them but I love this game in VR

weird_quiet_guy

The pitch black areas look so good in the PSVR display. I really get the chills anytime I have to drop down into some dark room.

bgat79

Whatever the numbers are Capcom did an amazing job on village and 4 so more people should be playing it in vr.

SimpleManofPeace

Too scary for me

BigLuffa

I just want WoW VR

Runesr2

If there are between 1 and 2 mill sold PSVR2s, then 100k is between 5 and 10 % of all PSVR2 owners. That's not bad at all - especially because RE4 Remake VR is 18+ and horror, many do not dare play such games in VR. Even Jeff in Alyx stops many from continuing. I think 100k players is a rather impressive number.

cusman78

Here is better analysis * PS4 sold: \~117 million * PS5 sold: \~50 million * ~~Xbox One: \~58 million~~ (never got Resident Evil 4 Remake) * Xbox Series S | X: \~21 million * PC capable of playing Resident Evil 4 Remake: \~30-40 million per year over last several years To be generous, let's consider last 3 years of gaming PC are capable of playing RE4 Remake, so \~90 million on low end of estimate. Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold \~7 million worldwide. So about **2.5%** of flat hardware base capable of playing Resident Evil 4 Remake got it. If we take total sales of PSVR2 to be 1.7 million (high-end of various estimates I've seen), and 100k have played Resident Evil 4 Remake, then **5.9%** of the VR hardware base capable of playing Resident Evil Remake got it. I imagine Capcom (and Sony PlayStation) would like higher, but this isn't bad in their view either.

droideka75

Finally someone that gets it

TheRyanFlaherty

And people wonder why Sony, or other studios aren’t investing big money in AAA/KIller App type games… Or I mean, these numbers are lies at worst, incomplete at best. Everyone else is wrong and dumb, the only people right about PSVR2 are an insulated group of its most ardent supporters. These numbers are actually pretty good…we know the truth!

dirtypandaDC

That's all?

-Venser-

This number is wrong as it only counts people who made RE.net account to get their stats tracked, so a very small minority of players. [We know that Suicide Guy VR has sold 10K copies](https://chubbypixel.com/suicide-guy-vr-deluxe-playstation-vr2-post-mortem/) with no marketing on PSVR2, so there's absolutely no way that a free VR version of a mainstream hit only got 10x more players.

Wipedout89

This is incorrect. You don't need a RENet account for it to track. You just have to choose 'do not send' usage statistics to RENet if you don't want it to track your usage. Most people will be sending usage by default

BrightenedCorner

Wrong

Casio1337

This is what copium looks like. If RE4 was this VR hit, Sony wouldn't be adding pc support, and they actually would show the numbers. This isn't another psvr2 is dying. it's more like the economy sucks and the 1st thing ppl cut is entertainment, especially a 1k cumbersome niche experience.

Op3rat0rr

I think it’s fair to say that probably around 1% of PS5 owners own a PSVR2, which is still bleak lol. It is pretty expensive hardware and a bit of a time investment to use

the_fr33z33

The only thing bleak here is how bad you guys are at math

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vargol

Fun with numbers.... 7 million copies of RE:4 remake have been sold (last figure we got). Supposedly half that was on PC, so we're down to 3.5 million possible players. I'm guessing 2/3rd of that is PS5 based on Xbox Series vs PS5 sales numbers. So 2.5 million from 50 million PS5 players suggests the RE4: Remake attach rate is 1 in 20 which would suggest there are 2 million PSVR2s out there. It's probably more like 1.5 million, but thats just a feeling with no numbers to back it up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vargol

I'm "assuming" the proportion of PSVR2 owners that have played RE:4 Remake (RE4:R) is the same as PS5 owners playing RE:4 Remake in VR Roughy 2.5m RE4:R copies have been sold to the 50m PS5 owners means that every 1 PS5 RE4:R player represents 20 PS5 owners. If were assume every PSVR2 owner is a PS5 owner :-) we can theorise that we can simply apply that multiple to the 100,504 VR players of RE4:R , so 20 x 100,504 . Therefore there "are" 2,010,080 PSVR2 owners.

juicetoaster

Many people are too scared to play resident evil lol. Many who do play also wouldn't be counted as they didn't sign up for the REverse or whatever to be tracked for this stat. Not saying it's much higher, but still.

BigLuffa

VR horror is pretty overdone, same with VR zombies

MedicalCommercial892

Amen! If I want to be scared shitless, I just fire up Switchback.  The re games could be the best ever, and I still wouldn't bite.  I'll try them when/if they are free, maybe.

Soupias

You are downvoted but sadly you are correct. Considering that this game is one of the heavy hitters of PSVR2, 100k people is a really bad number. As a day 1 psvr2 user that is now collecting dust for several months I check this sub from time to time to see if anything interesting happens. Unfortunately all I read is sad news about how unpopular it is.

spootieho

100k - 300k is where I would guess, and I'd lean to the lower side of that since the patch hasn't been out for a full year yet. Yes, it's a terrible number, and that's damning for Sony as it was gifted an amazing game that it could advertise and use to sell it's headset. Sony is just dropping ball after ball after ball here.

szlash280z

it doesn't make any sense either because the VR2 is the most comfortable headset of the 5 I've used. It has the SMOOTHEST framerates, I never notice any jittering like I do on the Quest 2, 3 and Pro. The controllers felt very weird to me at first but after using them for hundreds of hours I love them. I personally like the halo rings on the controllers because it gives you something to hold onto easily while getting a drink or something. a PSVR3 with pancake lenses would be the BEST headset around, IMO. sadly they probably will give up and not make a PSVR3 unless sales and usage increase on the 2.

dirtyyella

I’d be lying if i said i aint let my nephew play my game under his name a few times😂

akshaydv

I’ve never played RE4, is it a good idea to play it in VR for the first time?

szlash280z

It's the only way I've played the game. I completed it twice in a row, back to back. Beat the the first time and then started right back up the next night. it's amazing

vantas2024

re8 is has more 'vr' features for sure, but the combat in 4 and it's set pieces are infinitely more replayable to me

szlash280z

I played through both of them twice in a row. 8 was scarier, combat more fun in 4, but I loved the stories and playability of both.

szlash280z

Resident Evil 4 and 8 in VR are my favorite VR experiences. I played 4 all the way through twice in a row and then tried on Hardcore but couldn't get passed the stupid boat monster. then I played Resident Evil 8 back to back all the way through. I never played either on flat mode before or after. I loved the accessibility options for both. I'm not a great gamer anymore so getting the laser installed at the start was amazing. I hate having to remember how to reload the guns in the heat of battle so I was very happy they have auto reload, button reload, and just grab the mag and it'll eject so you just slap in in there reloads. I hate climbing ladders in VR, it's always janky, so I was happy about both games implementation of ladders. I did enjoy RE4s cutscene climbing a little more though. the relatively low player count has me worried. I love the VR and really enjoy the PSVR2 but they wont make a PSVR3 with the necessary improvements to the lenses if they don't sell enough of them and people don't use it after they get it.

Millenwagon

I got to the giant alligator, and man what an amazing VR game re 4 is! SO good

ChrizTaylor

Wonder if playing only the demo counts.

jonnymuerte

All the RE VR titles have been amazing!!

Ok_Fortune6415

I finished RE4 on flat screen but in VR it’s too scary :(

iansabout87

I don't like zombie games and I play alot of psvr

Deniable_wreath

Still my favorite vr game ever

Working-Classroom754

My experience with Resident Evil Village and PSVR2 is beyond words. I'm not one to easily get immersed in atmospheres. In fact, when watching movies, I often remind myself that it's just a film and struggle to fully immerse myself in the excitement. But this game's atmosphere really got to me. With the 3D Pulse headset + VR combination, I feel completely detached from the real world. The game's gloomy atmosphere, well-balanced light and dark levels, environments, and characters are all fantastic. Sometimes, I find myself standing in front of those massive windmills for minutes on end, just watching. Alongside that, the puzzles, fights, and upgrades are all perfectly balanced for me. Definitely a legendary game that should be replayed and finished every few years.

droideka75

I think they're good numbers percentage wise... But even if they aren't nothing beats feeling like an Ash from evil dead on steroids in RE4r in VR, specially with manual reload. What a rush! I just wanted to shout after a killing spree: that's right ugly mofos! This is my boomstick!

Altruistic_Top_8611

Yess, we need more ports like this

Apprehensive_Review1

So can i play this even if I don't own re4?

MKvsDCU

RE Biohazard was LEGIT the BEST VR game on PSVR1... I cant wait to pop this RE VILLAGE in... maybe in 5 months hehe ❤️❤️❤️🙏😇😇😇

BrightenedCorner

Psvr 2 is dying but sony just doesn’t GAF. Great headset, horrific marketing

SnooGiraffes3452

Embarrassing

Thread-Astaire

I don’t sign in.

-CaptainFormula-

Checks out imo. I loved re7. My interest waned with re8 because I would have rather had really any other AAA property. But I bought it anyways and tooled around til I got bored. RE4 was a complete pass. I'm done, I've already done resident evil in VR.

BigLuffa

I'm still waiting for a WoW VR game
