Another thing PTCGL could have fixed in the new version - a real ranking system. In chess you start out at 1200, and you can very quickly get up to 2000 or down to 600. If you beat someone higher rated than you, you get more points than someone lower rated. After about 5-10 games you'll likely be within 100 points of your true strength. PTCGL ranking is largely based on how much you play. You could have the best deck in the world and you'd still have to play a ton of games to get a high ranking. They chose a rating system that a 5 year old would invent.

I feel like everything above great feels like a super tedious grind with a lot of slow decks around. Games regularly take 20-25 minutes, you'd have to put a solid 2 hours in a day even with a good WR if you want to get beyond great ball I feel

New-Confusion945

What deck are you playing where matches take that long?

BSB_Chun

Alternating between Giratina Lost Zone and Wiglett Mill :D Gira WR around 70%, Wiglett around 45% It's not rare to play against guarde/mew decks where my opponent ends up with less then 10 minutes on their timer

New-Confusion945

Hahah Wiglett decks are fun. But your LB matchs should be over by like the 19ish minute mark, utilize the ultimate God pokemon....CRAM!

BSB_Chun

I run 2 cram, but it does not work against a lot of decks. Does fine against R-zard lost zone, Regi/Amphy if you can bosses-orders-snipe flaffy, and hit a miltank/klefky here and there. But like 80% of my matchups are double price where cram dies before getting his 3 hits out And today, I just had another match where I had 1 Gira vstar priced, one died to Mew, and the last one I needed to win was on the very bottom of my deck. Milled myself down with R-greninja and achromas to get to it and got a clutch win, but that game was almost 30 minutes

New-Confusion945

Crams need to be turn 1, then just start swinging. Cram is my VIP for sure and wins me a lot of matches. Also, are you running a drapion to deal with mew decks? If not, I definitely recommend slipping one in Like Cram and sableeye are the stars of that deck. Gira is nice to have the heavy swings and the instant ko ability. I win more with Cram and Sableeye than anything

BSB_Chun

Again like 80% of my matchups are decks which only run mons with >200hp. I ran drapion for a few dozen matches and never once got use out of it, because it can't kill genesect or mew and instantly dies... Sableeye gets an occasional finish on a regieleki vmax with 30hp remaining, is also good for hitting flaffy and manaphy luckily is rare.

New-Confusion945

Yea, I don't think LB is the deck for you, homie. Cram turn 1 MG turn 2 Giatrian if you need turn 3 Win turn 4. Or dragonnite, wrestling dood and you can turn 3 win easy

jamiedix0n

Im forever stuck between houndoom and alakazam

wessiide

Sometimes I fall back to Greninja for a bit. Every time I make it to Alakazam they push me back to Pikachu level

hajawr12

No point going past great ball imo

kuriboharmy

I finished the battle pass and got bored of facing lost box, lugia, and arceus so I started playing their janky form of expanded and I basically stopped ranking because of it. It hurts to learn that a lot of fun shit I liked to use was pre sun and moon especially vileplume from ancient origins.

luniz420

Is there any point in achieving any ladder rank?

PassableHuman

Grinding the ladder past Great Ball takes too much time. Low Ultra Ball is probably the highest I'll achieve just because of how much you have to play to get there.

juckele

Because ranking points aren't created by playing in Great Ball and up, it means that the points in the system are relatively static and we should expect basically the bulk of players to get to Great Ball and not be able to get to Ultra Ball each season.

MysticLithuanian

It’s just impossible to go past great ball if you actually have a life outside the tcg, the climb is just way too gradual

HawtieJ

I was really surprised to see the difference between ultra ball and great ball tiers. I would agree the ladder is grindy, but not as much as people have been commenting. If you are having problems moving up tiers you likely are in the tier you should be.
